Fans of Australian/New Zealand rock band, Crowded House, will be dreaming Winter’s over after they announced a string of Summer concerts in the UK for 2024 titled, Gravity Stairs Tour. Kicking off the tour in Lincoln Castle on the 15th June, the band will be playing at some of the most beautiful settings across the UK before finishing in Cork, Ireland, on the 25th June.

Taking to social media to announce the tour and the dates, the band stated, “Crowded House is excited to be playing shows in the UK and Ireland again next summer on the Gravity Stairs Tour!”.

The band, made up of Neil Finn, Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom, Liam Finn and Elroy Finn, released their latest album Dreamers Are Waiting, back in 2021. The album was received with positive reviews and served as the first album in which Neil’s son’s, Liam and Elroy Finn, had featured.

Formed in Melbourne in 1985, Crowded House saw international success with their self-titled debut album and their first international hit ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’, which went to number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Other hits included, ‘Something So Strong’, ‘World Where You Live’, and ‘Weather With You’ which remains the band’s highest UK chart performance.

Crowded House will be playing at one of the UK’s most prestigious grounds, Blenheim Palace, and will be joined by special guests Sheryl Crow and Turin Brakes on the night. This star-studded line-up is not the only one in their tour as they have also announced that they will be playing at the iconic Isle of Wight music festival on June 21st.

For their Irish show at Cork’s Musgrave Park, the band will be joined by The Waterboys, a British-Irish folk rock band.

UK Crowded House fans needn’t dream it’s over for the band’s highly-anticipated British and European tour, with an announcement today that the shows will now take place in June 2022. The Antipodean heavyweights will play eight gigs in the UK next year alongside a clutch of other shows in Ireland, Germany and Spain. The British leg of the tour kicks off with a trio of back-to-back gigs at the Camden Roundhouse in London next summer.

A statement posted on Crowded House’s social media channels today read: “For obvious reasons we are postponing our UK/Europe tour to 2022. Thanks everyone for being so understanding and staying strong through this crazy time. We cannot wait to be playing music for you all. What a cathartic time it will be.”

The Australasian five-piece, led passionately as always by multi-talented Kiwi frontman Neil Finn, are set to release their seventh studio album Dreamers Are Waiting on June 4th this year; their first new record in eleven years. The LP, which was recorded in Los Angeles and New Zealand on either side of 2020 Covid-19 lockdowns, will be the first Crowded House album to feature Neil Finn’s sons Liam (guitar) and Elroy (drums) as fully-fledged band members.

Finn Senior has hinted that the new record will represent a change in direction for the group, who scored a succession of hits across the globe in the 1980s and 1990s with the likes of Don’t Dream It’s Over, Weather With You, Fall At Your Feet, Locked Out, Better Be Home Soon, Four Seasons In One Day and Not The Girl You Think You Are. Finn, who is also a member of Fleetwood Mac (having replaced Lindsey Buckingham in 2018) told NME: “I’ve always been afraid of just repeating the same formulas, and somehow this feels like a fresh and authentic way to reapproach Crowded House today with an awareness of all our history and where, how and why it began in the first place.”

The band unveiled the debut single from the new LP, Whatever You Want, last October. Speaking about the contemporary pertinence of the lyrics, Neil Finn told ABC: “I guess in the year we’re in, and in the age of misinformation and untruth and propaganda and stuff, the idea that there’s a lot of people saying whatever they think that people want to hear – or, alternatively, what their boss wants to hear – is an interesting thought. It could sometimes just be the voices in your own head doing mischief and reassuring you about your own fears and anxieties. But the ‘yes men’ and the enablers, it’s kind of directed to them.”

A follow-up single, To The Island, was released last month. The melodic number also provided a title for Crowded House’s 2021 tour of the Finns’ native New Zealand – with the group playing to adoring capacity crowds in scenes that will doubtless prompt tinges of envy among live music fans in the Northern Hemisphere.

Crowded House’s 2022 UK Tour schedule is as follows:

05/06/22 – Roundhouse – London
07/06 – Roundhouse – London
08/06 – Roundhouse – London

Sounds of the City has recently announced more artists who will appear at the festival this upcoming summer. Among the recent announcement are DMAs, Foals, and The Streets that will perform during the eight-day festival.

One of the most anticipated music festivals in the UK, Sounds of the City has unfolded even more promising line-up. Previously announced as part of the headlining acts were Lewis Capaldi, The Kaiser Chiefs, Hacienda Classical, Paul Abbot and Jackie Heaton and Crowded House.

Sounds of the City is regarded as one of the biggest music festivals in the UK and Manchester’s hallmark. The festival is held in the heart of the city at Castlefield Bowl, with the capacity of 8,000 audience every summer. Last year, there were impressive performances from iconic artists, such as Kylie Minogue, Bloc Party, and Elbow. Next year, Sounds of the City will be situated at the exact location for two separate periods: July 1-4 and July 8-11.

Foals will be the first act to launch the festival on July 1, and the following performances can be seen below:

01/07/2020 – Foals (with support from Everything Everything, Battles)
02/07/2020 – Crowded House
03/07/2020 – The Kaiser Chiefs (with support from Razorlight)
4/07/2020 – Paul Heaton and Jacki Abbot
8/07/2020 – Lewis Capaldi
9/07/2020 – DMAs (with support from Blinders and The Lathums)
10/07/2020 – The Streets
11/07/2020 – Hacienda Classical

The tickets to Sounds of the City are on sale on Friday November 29 from 09:30am. Check out Festicket for more information.

Australian/New Zealand favourites, Crowded House, have announced they are to perform the forecourt of Sydney Opera House some twenty years after they performed their farewell tour in the same venue. Over 100,000 fans watched their Farewell to the World concert back in 1996 which was famously delayed because of heavy rain.

Nick Seymour (bass) said in a statement:

“I am excited to announce two encore performances on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House. The shows will mark the 20th anniversary of our break-up concert. ‘Proper order!’ I say, as being at the top of our game, I didn’t want to break up in the first place! I’ve come to realise the ‘top of our game’ is whenever we get together so please join us for a fuck-off sing-song, an off-piste jam session, a toast to absent friends and NO RAIN.”

Crowded House are also to re-release their six studio albums including a ‘rarities’ album in all formats. Neil Finn (vocalist/guitarist) said:

“We are thrilled all seven of our albums are about to be reissued in all formats including vinyl, each one accompanied by a rich trove of rarities including writing demos and other unreleased musical curiosities, as well as new original artwork from my dear friend Nick Seymour.”

“This has been many years in the making with much of the exhaustive listening, editing and remixing being done by the keeper of knowledge Jeremy Ansell in Auckland.

“It has been a labour of love for us and our mission all along was making a superlative quality, definitive document of Crowded House’s unique history for all the fans who have given us their affection over the years.”

On top of this, Crowded House will also be inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame at the Aria Awards (Australian Record Industry Association) to add to their eleven achieved since their eponymous debut album in 1986. Highlights include winning awards for Best New Talent in 1987 and Best Group in 1988.

This ‘encore’ tour will be performed on 25 and 26 November: tickets will go on sale on 26 September. See more here about how to obtain tickets to both the concert and the Aria Awards. Crowded House were formed in Melbourne in 1985. Watch ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ below:
