She was also famously married to Kurt Cobain, the late frontman of Nirvana. A major highlight is the release of the biographical film A Complete Unknown. The film stars Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan and focuses on his early career, particularly his arrival in New York in 1961, his rise in the folk music scene, and his controversial shift to rock music in 1965.

In addition to the film, Bob Dylan announced a UK tour as part of his ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways’ worldwide tour. The tour included ten dates across the UK in November 2024, featuring three nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall, a venue with historical significance in Dylan’s career, where the tour also concluded. There are currently no upcoming Bob Dylan shows.

Beyond these events, 2024 has seen a renewed interest in Dylan’s extensive body of work, with various retrospectives, articles, and discussions exploring his contributions to music, literature, and social commentary. His influence continues to inspire new generations of artists and audiences worldwide.

Courtney Love is an iconic alternative rock and grunge figure. The singer is not only known for her music and acting but also for her outspoken and often provocative views on various cultural and societal issues. “Bob Dylan’s songbook shaped Courtney as a musician and formed the basis of both Girl from the North Country and Todd’s new book Slow Train Coming, which documents the extraordinary journey of the show from pandemic-stricken underdog to future American classic.” The event organisers said.

Last night (the 27th of February), 600 fans were treated to one heck of a show indeed.

The Coverups, who are a cover band, are comprised of Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong and touring guitarist Jason White, plus Bill Schneider and Chris Dugan on bass and drums, respectively – played a hit-packed 24-song set in north London, having only announced the show just last week.

As if that wasn’t enough of a treat, they were joined on stage midway through the show by Courtney Love — who said she’d been “living in a cave in Birmingham for about nine years”.

Lead singer of ‘Hole’ and a legend in her own right, Love joined the Coverups on stage and lent her signature vocals to covers of Cheap Trick’s He’s A Whore and Tom Petty’s Even The Losers, before she came back out again for another Cheap Trick cover, Surrender.

In an eventful night, The Coverups took on a number of hits from The Ramones to Nirvana and threw in a bonus performance of Love Is For Losers by another of Billie Joe’s projects, The Longshot.

Hynde herself was inducted into the Hall of Fame back in 2005 as part of The Pretenders, but has since taken to social media to decry its relevance. She stated, “I don’t even wanna be associated with it. It’s just more establishment backslapping.”

She continued, “Other than Neil Young’s participation in the induction process, the whole thing was, and is, total bollocks. It’s absolutely nothing to do with rock ‘n’ roll and anyone who thinks it is is a fool.”

Despite being inducted back in 2005, Hynde seems to have always viewed the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in a negative light.

In her Facebook post, she stated, “I got in a band so I didn’t have to be part of all that. I was living a happy life in Rio when I got the call I was being inducted. My heart sank because I knew I’d have to go back for it as it would be too much of a kick in the teeth to my parents if I didn’t. I’d upset them enough by then, so it was one of those things that would bail me out from years of disappointing them. ( like moving out of the USA and being arrested at PETA protests and my general personality ).”

This discussion was sparked after Courtney Love called for more female acts to be inducted. Love shared her outrage at the lack of diversity on social media, telling the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to “GO TO HELL IN A HANDBAG BRO!”

Love, the lead singer of grunge band Hole, subsequently wrote an article for The Guardian in which she highlighted that “barely 8% of its inductees are female. The canon-making doesn’t just reek of sexist gatekeeping, but also purposeful ignorance and hostility.”

She continued, “the nominations for this year’s class, announced last month, offered the annual reminder of just how extraordinary a woman must be to make it into the ol’ boy’s club.”

Love also drew attention to the fact that “it doesn’t look good for black artists either.” “If the Rock Hall is not willing to look at the ways it is replicating the violence of structural racism and sexism that artists face in the music industry, if it cannot properly honour what visionary women artists have created, innovated, revolutionised and contributed to popular music – well, then let it go to hell in a handbag.”

Love responded to Chrissie Hynde’s Facebook post on Twitter, writing “principals b4 personalities!”

Love has continued her tyrade on social media, claiming she was previously “silenced by boos” when she has previously tried to speak her mind.

Hynde and Love have both been met with varying receptions from fans after sharing their controversial standpoints.

The Pretenders are rumoured to be releasing a new album this year titled Relentless with the release date yet to be confirmed.

The Hole frontwoman got emotional introducing the song telling the crowd that during their 1994 tour, they would play the song to calm themselves down after their crazy sets, “so at the end of every set, for myself, to make myself sane again, I would play this song.” She then told the audience that she hadn’t played the guitar in “a really long time” before they kicked into the hit song. After the show, Love took time to pose for selfies with fans outside the venue. The band are currently touring, playing their 1992 album, It’s A Shame About Ray, in its entirety for the 30^th anniversary of its release. The tour will finish in Southampton on the 12^th of October.

The Lemonheads were formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1986 by Evan Dando and Bill Deily. The band toured US colleges through the eighties achieving more mainstream success in 1992 with the release of It’s A Shame About Ray. The band covered the Simon & Garfunkel song, “Mrs Robinson” for the 25^th-anniversary video release of the film. The song was released as a single and was their most commercially successful release up to that point. In 1993 Dando was included in People’s 50 Most Beautiful People list. The band split up in 1997, reforming in 2005 with a new line-up. They released Varshons 2, their tenth studio album, in 2019. The album achieved generally good reviews achieving a score of 68 on Metacritic.

Earlier this year, The Lemonheads were kicked off their tour with band Jawbreaker for breaking COVID protocols. Dando took to Twitter to express his feelings, saying: “I just want anyone and everyone to know that Jawbreaker are pussies. Fact not my opinion.” He continued: “Or rather they aren’t the Bruce Springsteen’s of alternative rock that they pretend to be. I’ll meet any of them any time for a fight, let’s go.”

He clarified his feelings in a later post, saying: “I was angry that they threw me off for violating a rule that wasn’t posted anywhere. We got kicked off the tour for going into the audience before the show. I committed to doing those shows. I wanted to do the shows. I was pissed off for being thrown off”. He then added: “It’s seriously compromised our financial situation and I really don’t think we deserved it.”

The singer, known for fronting the alt-rock band Hole and for her marriage to Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, announced last year that Hole had finished, and that she would continue the solo career she began in 2010 with her debut, ‘Americas Sweetheart’.

Speaking to Jam!, Love expressed excitement about her second LP, ‘Died Blonde’, calling the sound, ‘epic’, and stating that it would be released at Christmas, the same time as her memoir, which has the working title, ‘Last Bitch Standing’.

The singer has had a turbulent life, and her outspoken nature and highly publicised battles with drug addiction has led her to be labelled as one of the most controversial and most discussed women in the music industry.

Alongside her work with Hole, Love is also known for her acting career, including a critically acclaimed performance in Milos Forman’s 1996 biopic ‘The People vs. Larry Flynt’. In more recent years, she has worked as an artist and illustrator.
