A Day To Remember’s UK shows have been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The American pop punk band was supposed to fly over for a pair of shows at both Slam Dunk festival sites in Leeds and Hatfield, followed by shows in Glasgow, Cardiff and Nottingham. After the coronavirus outbreak forced artists all around the globe to postpone entire tours, the band rescheduled their UK and Europe shows with new dates yet to be announced. But yesterday a statement on the bands’ social media platforms announced that the UK shows would not be played at some point later on but will instead not take place at all.

“Due to the ongoing uncertainty of when events may happen, our Leeds, Hatfield, Nottingham & Cardiff shows have been cancelled & ticket holders will receive an automatic refund”, the statement reads. However, the band still seems to plan to reschedule the European shows, as the statement announces: “We’re still working hard to reschedule the rest of the dates and tickets will still be honored when that happens. If you have any questions about your tickets or refunds, please contact your point of purchase.”

We're still working hard to reschedule the rest of the dates and tickets will still be honored when that happens. If you have any questions about your tickets or refunds, please contact your point of purchase.

— A Day To Remember (@adtr) May 26, 2020

The ongoing pandemic has not only interrupted A Day To Remember’s touring plans, it has also put a hold on releasing their upcoming album. Speaking to NME earlier this month, frontman Jeremy McKinnon revealed that the release day is still uncertain due to the current situation.“It’s still up in the air, everyone obviously wants it to come out as soon as possible but we’re going with the flow here. We’ve almost got all the masters in, I’m expecting them any time now. We’re still trying to get our artwork done”, he told the magazine. The singer is aware that “that’s been annoying fans, but we have such a thing going. Every ADTR record has had these cool silhouettes that are unique to them and then, just because we were lazy and didn’t like people yelling at us, we just didn’t do it for ‘You’re Welcome’ yet.” According to McKinnon, about 30 or 40 songs have been demoed for the newest album.

And who knows, maybe this collection of new songs will make up for the cancelled shows, though it is a shame that we won’t have the chance to experience those new songs live (yet).

Despite everything, as the COVID-19 crisis continues, the virus has not prevented artists within the music industry from fighting back. Elton John has launched a $1 million emergency fund to protect those suffering from HIV during this worldwide pandemic.

Set up his non-profit organization, the Elton John Aids Foundation, it is currently open to applications. The fund seeks “solutions that have strong potential to address specific challenges that have arisen for people already living with or at severe risk of HIV/AIDS and who are now at heightened risk as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Elton made the announcement of the fund via Twitter. He said: “For almost 30 years my foundation has prioritised the most vulnerable people to HIV, to end the AIDS epidemic and we’re committed to this during the COVID-19 crisis too.”

Later, the ‘Rocketman’ vocalist said that the fans would “help frontline partners to prepare for and respond to the pandemic and its effects on HIV prevention and care for the most marginalised communities.”

He added: “We must keep up momentum or else the results could be disastrous for people living with HIV and other infectious diseases. We are with you, we are thinking of you, we will not leave anyone behind.”

Today, I’m proud to announce that my Foundation @EJAF is launching a $1million COVID-19 Emergency Fund to make sure that our frontline partners can respond to the effects of COVID-19 on HIV care for the most marginalised communities around the world. pic.twitter.com/g4wh9dnd3d

On March 29, Elton John hosted the iHeart Living Room Concert For America. The concert raised funds for support in the US against COVID-19. An hour-long programme aired across FOX and iHeartRadio stations.

The event saw performances from Billie Eilish and brother Finneas, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, The Foo Fighters Dave Grohl and Alicia Keys. Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes also performed. The Backstreet Boys went back in time with their 1999 hit, ‘I Want It That Way’.

So, to summarise it best, Elton John was hailed by Lady Gaga as “the host with the biggest heart”. Plus, Billie Joe Armstrong deemed it “an honour”, as he performed an acoustic version of ‘Boulevard Of Broken Dreams’.

American producer and musician Greg Dulli has announced the cancellation of his solo tour in the UK and Europe. His show was supposed to take place on March 24 at Islington Assembly Hall, but it has now been cancelled without a foreseeable reschedule.

The alternative rock icon took to his social media, apologising for the need to cancel all his shows in the UK and Europe. The tweet reads, “Due to the recently announced travel ban we must sadly cancel our March/April European dates. We sincerely apologize and are already working on rescheduling our European tour for later this year. Refunds will be available at point of purchase.”

“We remain hopeful that the North American tour will proceed as planned beginning in Minneapolis on April 24th. We’ll continue to monitor the situation as it develops. Stay safe everyone,” continued Dulli.

In addition to the unfortunate event of coronavirus outbreak, the US Government’s current policy to ban all travels from and to the country has required many musical events held by American artists to be called off. Meanwhile, Dulli still hopes to continue touring within the states in April.

Greg Dulli is the frontman of legendary alternative rock band The Afghan Whigs and also a member of The Twilight Singers. The 55-year-old artist has provided his talent as a vocalist and guitarist throughout eight studio albums of The Afghan Whigs. Apart from that, he has contributed to other work as a co-writer and producer for the likes of Foo Fighters, Afterhours, and Mark Lanegan Band.

Moreover, he has embarked on a solo career since 2005, with the debut LP Amber Headlights. On February 28, Dulli released his fourth solo album titled Random Desire after reuniting with The Afghan Whigs for 2017’s In Spades. Random Desire saw the singer/songwriter attempt to revive his early R&B-fanatic days by drawing inspiration from his icons Prince and Todd Rundgren. Read Rough Trade’s review of his latest offering here.

It is such a great shame at the moment to see many exciting gigs get cancelled and postponed. The fans of The Afghan Whigs and Dulli, this time, have to wait longer to see him live. 2016 was the year that Dulli last came to the UK for his “An Evening with Greg Dulli” Tour.
