Arijit Singh Makes History with Packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Concert

History was made last night when Bengali singer Arijit Singh performed before more than 40,000 fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The venue, which has hosted global stars such as Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons, became the stage for Singh’s landmark appearance as the first South Asian artist to headline a major UK stadium.

“He’s doing this to show the sheer power of him as an artist, but it’s also an incredible statement of Indian culture in the west,” South Asian BBC presenter Nihal Arthanayake said.

Though not a household name in the west, Singh is one of the most listened-to artists on Spotify, boasting nearly 50m monthly streams. His relative anonymity outside of South Asia is often attributed to his lyrics being performed in Hindi and Bengali, as well as his reserved personality that keeps him away from the media spotlight.

Singh was born in Jiaganj, West Bengal, into a family of musicians and began playing music at the age of three. His breakthrough came in 2013 with ‘Tum Hi Ho’, the lead track for the Bollywood romance Aashiqui 2. The ballad dominated charts across India, cementing Singh’s status as one of the country’s most important voices.

As a playback singer, Singh belongs to a central tradition in Bollywood, lending his voice to songs that actors later perform on screen. This unique role has given him an unmatched reach, with his voice tied to many of India’s most memorable films of the past decade.

During the performance, Singh included ‘Sapphire’, a multilingual track co-written with Ed Sheeran. Though Sheeran was not present at the concert, the song marked a notable moment in Singh’s set, highlighting his expanding global reach and cross-cultural collaborations.

Their partnership has drawn international attention, with Sheeran previously sharing that he was first captivated by Singh’s voice after hearing his 2013 hit ‘Tum Hi Ho.’ He later described Singh as “one of the most soulful artists I’ve ever heard.”

The concert lasted more than three hours, with Singh moving fluidly between styles and instruments. He performed a retro rendition of ‘Saariyya’ that caught long-time fans off guard, alongside modern, myth-driven pieces that highlighted his experimental side. His setlist balanced Indian classical instrumentation with contemporary arrangements, showcasing his versatility as both a vocalist and a musician.

The stadium was nearly at full capacity, with the majority of the audience made up of fans from London’s South Asian community. For many, the night was not only a concert but also a rare moment of cultural representation on one of the UK’s largest stages

With his Tottenham show, Singh proved that his artistry transcends language and geography. As Arthanayake put it, the night was as much a celebration of Indian culture in the west as it was a triumph for Singh himself—a once-in-a-generation voice finally recognised on the scale it deserves.

Fan Falls To His Death At Oasis Concert

An Oasis fan in his forties fell to his death on the night on August 2 at one of the band’s Wembley Stadium shows. The Met Police and medics responded to reports of an injured person around 10:30pm. The man was said to have sustained injuries after falling from the upper tier of the stadium and was promptly announced dead at the scene.

Oasis released a statement, sharing: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night. Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.”

Liam and Noel Gallagher began their Oasis Live ’25 reunion tour last month in Cardiff, Wales. Last night’s performance was the fourth of a five-date run at Wembley Stadium. A representative for the venue has confirmed to The Guardian that tonight’s (August 3) concert will go on as planned. Oasis are scheduled to play two more shows at Wembley this September

Police said to BBC that the stadium was busy and that they “believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage”. The Met has asked anyone who may have information to get in touch via 101. It added that the investigation would be passed to the Health and Safety Executive in the next few days.

Another source told The Telegraph that they thought what they saw was a coat falling, only to realise with horror that it was a person. “It was a big fall. God knows how it happened. It was so tragic. I don’t know how on Earth it happened. It was heart-breaking. He was only young.”

Oasis reunited this year for their Oasis Live ’25 tour after a 16-year split and feud. Wembley Stadium also shared a statement that medics, police and the London Ambulance service had attended to the injured man. “Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers,” it said.

The band is set to appear in Edinburgh on 8, 9 and 12 August and will then travel to Ireland, Canada, the US and Mexico before returning to Wembley on 27 and 28 September.

Birmingham Hotels Drastically Rise Prices for Black Sabbath Concert in July

Hotel prices have been rising drastically in Birmingham in anticipation for Black Sabbath’s farewell concert “Back To The Beginning” which will be taking place in July. The concert, now fully sold out, was announced earlier this month and includes a lineup of metal icons which will be gracing the Villa Park stage to bid farewell to the Black Sabbath stars, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, whom will be reuniting to say goodbye to each other and to fans, playing their first show together in over twenty years.

The concert will also include a small set from Ozzy Osbourne himself, and will be closed by the iconic band. The lineup also includes musicians from around the world will also be on hand to pay tribute, including Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins), David Draiman (Disturbed), Duff McKagan & Slash (Guns N’ Roses), Frank Bello (Anthrax), Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit), Jake E Lee, Jonathan Davis (Korn), K.K. Downing, Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Mike Bordin (Faith No More), Rudy Sarzo, Sammy Hagar, Scott Ian (Anthrax), II (Sleep Token), Papa V Perpetua (Ghost), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Wolfgang Van Halen, and Zakk Wylde.

Because the concert, which is already sold out, will draw an extensive amount of people to Birmingham, Birmingham Live reports that hotels near Villa Park, where the legendary metal band will perform their final show on July 5, have increased their rates by as much as 725%.

The article offers a comparison of The Apollo Hotel on Hagley Road, which is a prime example of this surge. A ‘superior’ double room without breakfast was listed at £619 for the night of the concert on Hotels.com. In contrast, the same room for the previous Saturday, booked through the same platform, was priced at just £75.

Birmingham Live also notes a Travelodge at Broadway Plaza, 14 minutes from the venue, where a room priced at £53.99 on June 28 surges to £319.99 on July 5. Likewise, in Yardley, a 22-minute drive from Villa Park, a Travelodge room that costs £47.99 the week before Back to the Beginning will rise to £303.99 on the night of the event.

Skyrocketing hotel prices are just the latest challenge for fans hoping to attend Back to the Beginning. According to the BBC, when tickets went on sale on February 14, the online queue exceeded 60,000 people—far more than Villa Park’s 42,000-seat capacity. Those who managed to secure a spot faced ticket prices ranging from £200 to several thousand pounds.

All profits from the night will go to the following charities: Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice, a Children’s Hospice supported by Aston Villa.

Texas to headline Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2024

The Scottish rock band Texas have been announced as the main headliner for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2024. The band, formed in 1986, have been experiencing a resurgence in popularity following the release of their 10th studio album, Hi, in May of 2021. The album has become their highest-charting album in the UK since their 1999 album, The Hush.

Texas are set to perform at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, Scotland’s world-famous New Year celebration held in the capital cityIt is one of the largest and most iconic New Year’s Eve festivals globally, known for its mix of traditional Scottish customs, modern festivities, and strong sense of community.

The Hogmanay celebration itself has a rich history as it is deeply rooted in Scotland’s cultural traditions, with influences from ancient Norse customs, Celtic rituals, and Scottish folk celebrations. “Hogmanay” itself is the Scottish word for New Year’s Eve, and it is traditionally marked by grand celebrations.

The Hogmanay was revitalised in the early 1990s and was turned into a larger-scale public festival that now attracts visitors from all over the world. Before this, the New Year celebrations were more intimate, but the city’s tourism board saw the potential for a large-scale event.

Key features of the celebration includes a torchlight procession through the streets of Edinburgh, as well as the centrepiece of Hogmanay; the street party held on December 31st. Taking place along Princes Street, one of the city’s main streets, the party attracts tens of thousands of people from around the world. There are multiple stages with live music performances, DJs, and entertainment, featuring both local and international artists.

Finally, there is the concert, headlined this year by Texas, which takes place in Princes Street Gardens, with the iconic Edinburgh Castle as a backdrop.

Texas, the Scottish alternative rock band formed in 1986 in Glasgow by Sharleen Spiteri (lead vocalist) and Johnny McElhone (bassist) are known widely for their hits, including Say What You Want, Summer Sun, and Inner Smile.

This will be the third time that the band are performing at Edinburgh’s famous New Year’s event, having first performed there back in 2000. They are the only band in the history of the event to play it three times.

Texas will be performing alongside the special guest, Edinburgh’s own singer-songwriter Callum Beattie, known for his emotive lyrics and powerful pop-rock sound. The event will be hosted by the returning comedian Susan McCabe.

As reported by NME, in response to their performance announcement, Spiteri stated: “We can’t wait to play here for a third time. So get on your glad rags and let’s party for the New Year.”

Directors of Unique Assembly, the creators and producers of Edinburgh Hogmanay, stated: “We are thrilled to welcome Texas back to headline Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, 25 years after their very first appearance at the festival. With a hit-packed show from Texas and the world-famous Midnight Moment from Edinburgh Castle, the Concert in the Gardens will kick-start 2025 with a bang, and give party-goers from around the world the perfect start to the year.”

Massive Attack Announce Act 1.5 Dedicated To Climate Action

Massive Attack has recently announced Act 1.5, an event dedicated to climate action acceleration. This event will feature Robert Del Naja and Grant Marshall performing their first concert in the UK in five years. Set to take place on August 25th, 2024, at Clifton Downs in their hometown of Bristol, this concert aims to be the most environmentally friendly show of its scale ever organised.

To achieve this, Massive Attack has implemented a range of innovative measures. The concert will be powered entirely by renewable energy sources, with solar panels and wind turbines providing the necessary electricity. The stage and lighting equipment will be energy-efficient, utilising the latest technology to minimise energy consumption.

Transportation to and from the event will also be environmentally friendly. Massive Attack has partnered with Train Hugger, a company that promotes sustainable travel, to offer discounted train tickets to concert-goers. Additionally, the band has collaborated with Ecotricity, a green energy supplier, to provide electric vehicle charging stations at the venue.

In terms of waste management, the Act 1.5 event will prioritise recycling and composting. Most recently they posted a copy of a letter that was addressed to the President from the band, to which they highlighted, what they believed to be a responsibility of the international community to end this crisis. It read,
“The international community has a responsibility to use all its influence to prevent further escalation and end this crisis. I urge the members of the Security Council to press to advert a humanitarian catastrophe. I reiterate my appeal for a humanitarian ceasefire to be declared. This is urgent. The civilian population must be spared from greater harm. With an humanitarian ceasefire the means of survival can be restored and humanitarian assistance can be delivered in a safe and timely manner across the Gaza Strip.”

Wigan Casino Celebrates It’s 50th Anniversary Of Northern Soul Music

Fifty years ago, the Wigan Casino nightclub commenced its inaugural all-nighters, thereby establishing itself as the focal point of the Northern Soul movement. As the stroke of midnight neared every Saturday, during a period when the majority were retiring for the night, a multitude of youthful music enthusiasts, having journeyed from various regions of the nation via cars, coaches, and trains, congregated upon a thoroughfare situated within the heart of Wigan.

Although the nightclub is not there in its physical form, it lives on, through the people and it’s music.

Northern Soul emerged in the economically disadvantaged regions of Northern England during the late 1960s. From Manchester and Sheffield, including Newcastle, Blackpool, and various parts of Southern Scotland, such as Glasgow and Edinburgh. Previously renowned for its significant contributions to the Industrial Revolution during the 19th century, these areas had transformed into a hub of widespread joblessness, menial labor in factories and mines; however, Northern soul music dramatically changed the culture in these areas, bringing a music that was outspoken about racism, ecology, war, and drug abuse, among other topics. Motown mixed with R&B, and dance vibes was introduced in nightclubs by DJ’s, it saw songs from Marvin Gaye “This love starved Heart“, Frankie Valli “You’re Ready Now” and the renowned song “Out on the Floor” by Dobie Gray. The music genre become popular among the younger generation and gave a voice to the working class.

The weekend kicked off with Craig’s special edition of his regular Saturday night Funk and Soul show, dedicated to Northern Soul, his introduction to the all-nighter began at 6pm and concluded at 9pm. The show showcased a ten-piece soul house band known as The Signatures, alongside esteemed guests such as Richard Searling, a renowned figure from the iconic Wigan Casino, and the talented all-female R&B group, The Flirtations.

Additionally, Craig was set to embark on a quest to locate the most elusive Northern Soul record, which was recently sold for an astounding £100k. Then from 9pm, Stuart Maconie joined the festivities and collaborated with Craig to present a broadcast of the Northern Soul Prom.

This extraordinary event was conceived by Stuart and featured a captivating performance by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Richard Searling recalls, “As soon as those doors opened, there’d be a flood of people. Once inside, they went upstairs, paid the entry fee, passed through a set of double doors and entered the dance hall. There, the wall of sound would hit you. The club’s cocktail of aromas would also hit you. “That smell of condensation, of Brut, of sweat… It was absolutely amazing.”

The all-nighter playlists continued with Golden Torch, Wigan Casino, Twisted Wheel and The 100 Club. The Northern Soul’s morning after mix, saw a Northern Soul Special from 4am unitl 7am and Lights On With Stuart Maconie 7am until 8am.

Peter Gabriel Gives His Voice In A Music Collation Against Gun Violence in the USA

Peter Gabriel gives his voice to join a collation of other artists in the Artists for Action to Prevent Gun Violence. A man with many strings to his bow, including singing,song writing, record producing and activism, he is no stranger to taking a stand against the wages of gun violence, as he demonstrated in a public service announcement in the early ’90’s.

After Peter left the band Genesis in 1975, he joined the Peace Choir and performed in the single “Give Peace A Chance.” As a prominent figure in promoting peace. He has participated in many ‘human rights’ campaigns. Significantly, Amnestry International 1988 Human Rights Now.

Artist for Action to Prevent Gun Violence, is said not to be a political stand, but rather to encourage America’s to volunteer and vote to eradicate gun violence in the US. With over 470 mass shootings in 2023 already, their voices will be needed more than ever.

Peter Gabriel said in an interview “This needs to stop. So many needless deaths. So much needless suffering. It just needs a little common sense.”

Behind the voices of Artists for Action is the founder Mark Barden. Whose son was tragically and fatally wounded in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December 2012. As a former professional guitarist himself, he put it all on hold, to dedicate his time to preventing gun violence in the US.

Mark launches the series of united and passionate artist, with it’s first event taking place in New York on September 22nd. Presented by AFA (Artists for Artists) who are known for their support and advocacy in social impact events.

This was their message, “Artist For Action: We are a coalition of artists, musicians and influencers who are taking action towards eliminating the epidemic of gun violence in America. Our platform makes it easy for artists to activate their fans in taking 3 simple steps to prevent gun violence – Volunteer, Donate, Vote. Artist For Action To Prevent Gun Violence is a non-political movement that has come together as one to help prevent future tragedies. We must act now!”

No further dates have been listed as of yet and currently Peter Gabriel is touring in Canada and the US promoting his latest album in 7 years called i/o, which began in May 2023.

Peter Gabriel has a profound and unique empathy that he communicates through his music and lyrics. His voice will be a invaluable against the prevention of gun violence, due to his knowledge and understanding of the world around him. And that is clearly demonstrated when hearing Peter describe the meaning behind the songs on his new album and the deeper mindset that we must adapt and move forward.

This collaboration is to help build a platform were artists can inspire their fans to get active in the prevention of gun violence. A web page is set up for those who wish to volunteer, donate and vote in this prevention of gun violence and purchase tickets to each show of ‘Artists for Action.’

Lewis Capaldi Cancels Upcoming Gigs to ‘Rest and Recover’ for Glastonbury

Lewis Capaldi cancels all upcoming work commitments to “take a moment to rest and recover” until he performs at Glastonbury Festival on June 24th.

The Scottish singer apologises to fans in an Instagram post saying he has been “struggling” for the past few months both “mentally and physically”.

Earlier this year, Capaldi shared his struggles with fame and how it impacted his mental health in the Netflix documentary, “Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now”.

In the post, Capaldi begins by saying, “This is a really difficult message, and one that hurts me a lot to have to type. But I’m really sorry to say that I’m going to have to cancel all commitments from now until I play Glastonbury on June 24th. It’s been such an incredible time leading into this new album, and seeing all of the support from everyone has been beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of. That said, the last few months have been full on both mentally and physically, I haven’t been home properly since Christmas and at the moment I’m struggling to get to grips with it all.”

He continued: “I need to take a moment to rest and recover, to be at my best and ready for Glastonbury and all of the other incredible shows coming up so that I’m able to continue doing what I love for a long time to come. I need to take these three weeks to be Lewis from Glasgow for a bit, spend some time with my family and friends and do normal life things that are an important part of me feeling better. I hope everyone understands. The fact you’re willing to come out and spend your time, money and love on these shows is beyond comprehension and I feel incredibly lucky I’m getting all the help and support I need from the incredible people around me who I’m so grateful for. I take none of this for granted and can’t wait to be back doing it again. All my love, Lewis x”.

He has been scheduled to play concerts in Glasgow, Dublin, London, and Norway in June.

His recent album, “Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent”, was released on May 19th. The singer-songwriter’s second studio album became the fast-selling album of 2023. After the first week of its release, the album had more than 95,000 sales.

Wireless Festival 2023 Tickets Sold Out

General Admission tickets for Gopuff delivers Wireless Festival 2023 has officially sold out with limited VIP packages and upgrades still available to purchase.

This year’s Wireless Festival will run on the Friday 7th July until Sunday 9th July with Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, and D-Block Europe as the headlining performers. 50 Cent is also set to perform as a special guest. It will take place at Finsbury Park in London bringing the rap and urban community back together.

Although not all names on the lineup has been revealed, musicians including Lil Uzi Vert, Metro Boomin, FLO, Mariah The Scientist, Lil Durk, and Lil Tjay will be performing across the weekend.

BBC 1XTRA is this year’s official broadcast partner for Wireless Festival 2023. They will be broadcasting live from Finsbury Park allowing fans to follow along on BBC Sounds, and BBC iPlayer.

Last year, Wireless took place over at Crystal Palace, Birmingham, as well as Finsbury Park. However, it will only be held at Finsbury Park this year for the entire three-day event. Headlining artists for Wireless Festival 2022 included the likes of Cardi B, SZA, Nicki Minaj, A$AP Rocky, J. Cole, Dave, and Tyler, The Creator.

The music festival has been running since 2005 with headlining artists including Jay-Z, P!nk, The Black Eyed Peas, Pulp, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, and Stormzy.

Liam Gallagher Announces Intimate London Show Ahead of ‘Knebworth 22′ Release

Liam Gallagher has announced an intimate London show, set to take place on 9th August 2023 at KOKO.

The show will celebrate the release of Gallagher’s new live album, Knebworth 22, due to come out on 11th August 2023. The intimate performance will allow fans the opportunity to hear tracks from both his solo discography and that of Oasis, with Liam taking to Twitter to call the news of the gig “biblical.”

Liam shared the show artwork on Twitter too, which declares the show to be the “exclusive Knebworth 22 live album launch.”

Liam’s performance at KOKO is set to be his only indoor UK gig scheduled for 2023, though he is set to perform at various UK festivals throughout the year.

Speaking on the release of Knebworth 22, Liam said, “So we recorded the Knebworth gigs we did last year. We all sound BIBLICAL, turn it up ENJOY, LGx.” Liam played two sold-out nights at Knebworth back in June 2022, with over 170,000 fans attending the shows which were reminiscent of the iconic 1996 Oasis Knebworth performance.

Liam announced the news of the live album by sharing the live recording of an Oasis deep cut, “Roll It Over,” taken from one of his Knebworth 22 shows. The track was originally featured on Oasis’ fourth studio album, Standing on the Shoulders of Giants, and had never been performed live by the band.

Pre-sale tickets for the album launch show will go on sale at 10am BST on 5th July, with an exclusive presale code being offered to all fans who pre-order a copy of Knebworth 22 before 3pm on 4th July. The code will be sent out at 5pm on the 4th. Pre-order Knebworth 22 here.

This gig announcement came shortly after Liam teased fans with the news of his plans to tour the Definitely Maybe album in its entirety to celebrate its upcoming 30th anniversary in 2024.

No concrete plans for this tour have been announced as of yet, though one can assume that Liam will take to Twitter as usual to keep his fans in the loop when details materialise.
