Rock band Chumbawamba announced a release of the documentary about the band. Duncan Bruce, band’s frontman said in an interview: “We have just finished a documentary about Chumbawamba. It has taken five years to make and that film will answer a lot of questions. I will never get interviewed again once that film is out”.

The band was formed in 1982 and split in 2012. At that time they explained they wanted to end it “with neither a whimper, a bang or a reunion. Thirty years of ideas and melodies, endless meetings and European tours, press releases, singalong choruses and Dada sound poetry, finally at an end”.

Their biggest hit ‘Tubthumping’ from 1997 reached No.2 in the UK Chart, No.6 in the Billboard 100 and spent nine weeks at No.1 on the POP Songs Chart. Bruce commented on the success of the song that it helped him “to live a creative life by my own rules and desires” and that the whole band “still benefit from that song”.

The band member were full on activists. The frontman said: “We were really politically motivated and our outlet was the music. We wanted to change the world”. In 1998, when the ‘Tubthumping‘ was nominated for a Brit Award for Best British Single, the band famously threw water over former Deputy Prime Minister John Presscott at the ceremony.

Even though ‘Tubthumping’ has been voted 12th of the most annoying songs of all time by Rolling Stone magazine, it became an anthem and it is still played in clubs and adverts. Bruce said: “I hear the song on different TV programmes all the time like First Dates or Little Fires Everywhere. People have played the song at funerals. That is weird”.

Further information about the documentary title and release date are still unknown. The podcast ‘Can I Ask You A Personal Question’ and full interview with Duncan Bruce is available via Spotify and you can listen to it below.
