The alleged assault took place at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London. It is claimed that Brown, 36, attacked music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle in February 2023.

Diaw claimed that he was hit over the head with a bottle before being punched and kicked as he lay on the floor. He was then taken to hospital after his knee collapsed and needed crutches after being discharged.

Brown is yet to enter a plea after appearing in Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday (May 16), where he was told that the case will be moved to Southwark Crown Court in London with the next hearing being set for June 13.

The ‘Beautiful People’ singer was about to embark on a European and UK tour next month, with the first show scheduled for Amsterdam on 8 June before heading back to the UK. He was due to perform in Manchester, Cardiff, London, Birmingham and Glasgow.

Whether these shows take place is now up in the air after this recent arrest. His presence in the UK was pointed out to the Met Police by The Sun.

The outlet became aware that the singer had flew into Manchester Airport on a private jet, when they decided to ask the police whether Brown was under arrest. This led to Met detectives travelling to Manchester and arresting the 36 year old at The Lowry Hotel in Salford at 2am.

A Met spokesman told BBC News details of the situation, saying: “A 36-year old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

“He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023.

“The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”

After Brown’s arrest, a second man has now been charged with GBH linking to the same incident. 38-year old rapper Omololu Akinlolu, better know by his stage name HoodyBaby, was reprimanded on Saturday (May 17) for his involvement in the alleged attack on Abe Diaw.

Brown and Akinlolu will now remain in custody until they appear for a plea and trial preparation in London on 13 June.

This does not mark the first time Brown has faced legal troubles due to violence, after he was famously charged with felony assault following a domestic violence incident with then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.

Fans of the R&B singer will be hoping this situation gets cleared up quickly if they wish to see him play in the UK this summer, although the chances now look slim.

His comments come after Chvrches took to social media to express their disappointment in Marshmello, who they recently collaborated with on  the track, ‘Here With Me’, after he decided to work with Tyga and Chris Brown. Taking to social media the band condemned Marshmello’s decision to work with “predators and abusers”.

With the debate heating up Chris Brown fired back at the Scottish-band. Leaving a comment on one of their Instagram posts, Brown wrote: “Bunch OF LOSERS. Theses are the type pf people I wish walked in front of a speeding bus full of mental patients. Keep grovelling over your own insecurities and hatred.

“I’m Black and Proud. And I know it hurts that you guys are struggling with life or peace, so you are forced to see my success. You aren’t even #2 (Remember 2^nd place only means you lost first! Ta-Ta. Goodday Peasants.”

Tyga has also commented on Chvrches Instagram, however his response took a different approach and leaned more towards growth and peace. He wrote: “We’re all God’s children. Everyone makes mistakes no ones perfect. Let’s keep the energy positive.”

The band have not yet responded Brown’s or Tyga’s comments, but the band’s frontwomen Lauren Mayberry did post a couple of screenshots featuring abusive direct messages she received following her initial comments. Taking to Instagram, Mayberry wrote, “Angry men on the internet can call me all the names they want. I still think domestic abuse is wrong.”

Back in 2009, Chris Brown was arrested for the felony assault of his girlfriend, at the time, Rihanna, while they were sitting in a parked car, in Los Angeles, on their way to the Grammy Awards. He was sentenced to five years’ probation and six months’ community service.

Tyga, who also features on Marshmello’s song, ‘Light It Up’, is well known for having dated Kylie Jenner. The 29-year-old rapper reality TV show star eventually went public with their relationship in 2015. However, he continually denied that they’d been dating before she was 18.

Tyga’s representatives were also forced to go on record and deny allegations that the rapper exchanged sexually-charged messages, with a 14-year-old girl. However, the star’s management team said he had been messaging her about working on some music together.

Chvrches – a trio from Glasgow that is made up of frontwomen Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook, and Martin Doherty – are known for publically voicing their opinions on social issues. Speaking, in an interview with the BBC in 2018, about the misogyny in the music industry and the #MeToo movement, Chvrches frontwomen, Lauren Mayberry, said: “It’s great that people are waking up and having that conversation, but it has to be more than a symbolic gesture.

“Yes, it’s great that you kicked Harvey Weinstein out of the Academy but Roman Polanski’s still in there, Woody Allen’s still in there, Bill Cosby’s still in there. People wear white roses at the Grammy Awards to show they stand with these things – but then you look at the show, and you look at the content of it, and you look at the people in the room, and you’re like, ‘Oh, nothing has changed.'”

The release of ‘Here With Me’ follows Chvrches third album, ‘Love Is Dead’, which was released in 2018. The Scottish band’s track, ‘Here With Me’, with Marshmello, is fans’ first taste of new music since they released their third alum, ‘Love Is Dead’, last year. In a four star review, NME wrote: “In these times, it would be surprising to find the band looking inward, and ‘Love Is Dead’ manages to balance hopeful, utopian pop with a darker, gloomier undercurrent. Love may not be dead after all, but if you ask CHVRCHES, the onus is on all of us to try and keep it alive.”

WPTV are reporting that Brown was booked into Palm Beach County jail, following a warrant for felony battery, issued by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Brown has since been released after paying a $2000 (£1512) bond.

Following his release, Brown posted on Instagram, showing him performing onstage, simply captioned ‘what’s new?’  and featured the eye-rolling emoji. He has since continued his ‘Heartbreak On A Full Moon’ tour in neighbouring Tampa.

Brown has something of a chequered past with the law, first beginning in 2009 when he brutally assaulted then-girlfriend Rihanna at a pre-Grammys party. He was convicted and sentenced to community service following the incident.

In March 2018, Rihanna herself hit out at social media titan Snapchat, after they posted a poll encouraging users to choose to either ‘Slap Rihanna’ or ‘Punch Chris Brown’.Rihanna targeted Snapchat admins directly, for “[spending] money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to domestic violence victims.” The Guardian reported after the controversy that Snapchat’s insensitivity towards domestic violence had wiped nearly $1 billion from the company’s overall value

Brown has also had alleged violent incidents with Drake, Frank Ocean, and ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tan, who in February 2017 was granted a five year restraining order against the singer, after claiming that he had threatened to kill her.

Baylee Curran said that she was at the US singer’s home for a music video ‘go-see’ or audition, and she was chased out of the house and had to hide under a nearby car with a friend, after Brown had pointed a gun in her face.

A search warrant was obtained by the police on Tuesday and law enforcement officials spent a lengthy 11 hour ‘stand-off’ with Brown. During which, Brown posted a series of videos on Instagram ranting about police harassment. According to TMZ Brown threw a duffel bag out of a window, taunting the police, saying “come and get me”. There have been claims that the duffel bag had drugs inside.

Brown later posted messages on social media on Tuesday morning declaring his innocence and denying reports that he barricaded himself in his ‘‘palace.’’

‘‘Y’all gonna stop playing with me like I’m the villain out here, like I’m going crazy,’’ he said in one Instagram video, waving a cigarette and looking at the camera. ‘‘When you get the warrant or whatever you need to do, you’re going to walk right up in here and you’re going to see nothing. You idiots.’’ Those videos have now been deleted.

LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division detectives entered Brown’s property with a warrant 10 hours later at around 1pm and he emerged at around 2.43pm for a very brief amount of time. Brown was then arrested, near 5pm among the view of several news helicopters that swirled overhead and dozens of camera crews that gathered at the bottom of Brown’s LA hilltop estate.

Mark Geragos, Brown’s attorney, arrived at the house before police carried out the search. There’s claims that this was to get Brown to cooperate. “He’s trying to help talk some sense into [Chris],” a law enforcement source told E! News.

Chris Brown was released from jail later on Tuesday, after posting a $250,000 bail even though a felony assault with a deadly weapon conviction is meant to carry a sentence of four years in county jail, along with a $10,000 fine.

Brown’s accuser, Baylee Curran claims to be the 2016 Miss California Regional title holder, but CNN confirmed that she was stripped of her title in July.

This is also not the first time Brown has been in trouble with the police. Back in 2009, he was convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna, which led to six years of probation. Also, in 2013, he hit a man outside a hotel in Washington DC and was charged with misdemeanor assault. Brown was ordered to go to a rehabilitation centre as a result, but was then kicked out of the facility for breaking its rules. After completing a series of anger management classes, Brown was also later accused of throwing a brick at his mother’s car.
