Father John Misty (aka Josh Tillman) has two orchestral shows planned for this year; one in London at Barbican Hall, and one in Los Angeles at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. At the latter, he will be backed by the prestigious Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra, and at the London show, he will be accompanied by the Britten Sinfonia, conducted by Jules Buckley. Tillman is set to release his fifth full-length album this year on the 8^th of April, entitled Chloë and the Next 20^th Century. This is his first release since 2020, with his last endeavours being the E.P. Anthem +3 and the A and B side single To S./To R. It is also his first full-length release since 2018’s God’s Favorite Customer. The upcoming record is available to pre-order here.

Two days ago (January 5^th), Tillman premiered the first single from the forthcoming record, “Funny Girl”. Over a wistful piano and orchestra led instrumental that carries more than just a flavour of the 1950s, Father John Misty croons snarky lines such as “You knocked me out when you charmed the pants off Letterman” like an indie folk Sinatra, seemingly singing of infatuation, and lamenting an unrequited love. Prior to adopting the Father John Misty moniker, Tillman had already become more than acquainted with the music industry. He began recording as J. Tillman in his early twenties, and would end up releasing five albums under this name: Minor Works (2006), Cancer and Delirium (2007), I Will Return (2007), Long May You Run, J. Tillman (2008) and Singing Ax (2010). Tillman also joined the indie-folk band Fleet Foxes in 2008, as their drummer. He toured a large amount with the band as they promoted their record Helplessness Blues, which was released in 2011, and played his last show with the band in 2012.

Following his departure from Fleet Foxes, Tillman signed with Sub Pop records and took up the Father John Misty moniker, releasing his first record Fear Fun on May 1^st 2012 to substantial praise from critics and fans alike.
