Kaiser Chiefs Announce New Album And 2024 UK Tour

World famous British band Kaiser Chiefs delighted fans recently with the news of their upcoming eighth studio album. The band, fronted by ex The Voice judge Ricky Wilson, are due to drop the highly anticipated album, titled Kaiser Chiefs’ Easy Eighth Album, on March 1st 2024. The new album, produced by Amir Amor of Drum & Bass band Rudimental, will feature the band’s two previously released singles “Jealousy” and “How 2 Dance”. In addition to this, the “Love’s Not A Competition” singers dropped a brand new track today (October 25) featuring none other than musical legend Nile Rodgers.

When speaking about how the new track, titled “Feeling Alright”, Ricky Wilson said “On the first day with Nile Rodgers, he said, ‘What have you got?’ We searched through some jams we had and this was a song that stood out to him. The band loved playing it round and round, and it must be fun to play but we never really knew where it would find a home. Nile turned out to be the best estate agent and found it a home almost immediately. He also brought in Amir, who turned out to be our housemate for the entire record. A good place to start!”

“Nile Rodgers is a force to be reckoned with,” Ricky stated. “He does make you think about dancing quite a lot! He’s an amazing man to write songs with.”

Nile Rodgers & Chic Announce 2024 UK Tour

Legendary musician Nile Rodgers and his band Chic have announced a very exciting UK tour set for next summer. The disco pioneers will be performing 5 shows across the UK next year, kicking off their tour in June 2024.

Rodgers co-founded the group Chic with Bernard Edwards in the late 70’s and has since gone on to write, produce and perform on records that have sold more than 500 million albums and 75 million singles worldwide.

“Thrilled to announce we’re bringing the ‘Good Times’ back across England and Wales in 2024!” Rodgers shared in a social post on October 23. “Mark your calendars because we’re gonna light up the night, celebrate life, and dance like there’s no tomorrow.”

In addition to Nile Rodgers and Chic, British Pop singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor and viral Pop band Deco will be supporting on the whole tour.

In other Nile Rodgers news, the musician recently featured on British New Wave band Duran Duran’s latest single “Black Moonlight”. This collaboration is not the first time Rodgers and Duran Duran have worked together, as the Chic co-founder also produced the “Hungry Like The Wolf” band’s 1986 album Notorious. When speaking of the collaboration, Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes said “Nile Rogers is a force of nature. When we get into a room, we start playing, and magic happens. Nile always says that CHIC is his first band, and Duran Duran is his second.”

Moreover, the band’s frontman Simon Le Bon added “‘Black Moonlight’ is this classic Duran Duran-Nile Rodgers collaboration. When Nile started playing his guitar in the studio, he really inspired everyone with his riff, and the song just kind of wrote itself.”

Sir Tom Jones, along with three prominent major artists: Nile Rogers, CHIC and Kaiser Chiefs are set to headline the highly anticipated concert at the new festival called Greenwich Summer Sounds, a celebration of the best music within the United Kingdom. This will take place between July 4-8. Along with special guest supporting acts and another headliner are to be revealed. In the meantime, tickets will go out on general sale on Monday 13 March at 10 am, which will be available here.

Welsh legend Sir Tom Jones never fails to bring a crowd to their feet. He’s sold over 100 million albums worldwide and will perform hits from his vast back catalogue. Jones’s powerful baritone and commanding stage presence and iconic songwriting truly mark an unforgettable event.

Multi-Grammy Award-winning legendary producer Nile Rogers will perform at the Greenwich Summer Sounds before Sir Tom Jones will be the closing act. He is famed for his work as the frontman and producer of the funk/disco group CHIC, who will also perform at the festival. He is well known for producing big hits for artists including David Bowie, Madonna and many more. He is recognised as one of the most influential figures in contemporary music and will perform classics from his extensive discography.

Next act to perform after Nile Rogers will be none other than Kaiser Chiefs. The five-piece band are quite known for their energetic live shows, wittiness, often political takes and lyricism, and have achieved 5 UK top 10 albums since their formation in 2002. With an extensive back catalogue, the Kaiser Chiefs will surely bring the house down with their powerhouse of a performance.

The festival will be run by IMG, who are behind The Big Festival, Hampton Court Palace Festival, Taste of London and Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. Matthew Mees, chief executive of Old Royal Naval College said, “We’re delighted to welcome such an incredible line-up of artists to perform at the Old Royal Naval College. It’s truly a magnificent venue for concertgoers to enjoy open-air music on a summer’s evening next to the river across London. Greenwich Summer Sounds is set to be a spectacular event in a beautiful and historic setting.”

Nile Rogers, alongside CHIC, will be the opening act for the performance on July 4, and Sir Tom Jones will be the closing act on July 6. Kaiser Chiefs will take over on July 8. Greenwich Summer Sounds would be perfect for a Saturday night out. With three major artists as the highlight of the festival, this is one occasion that music lovers won’t want to miss.

Willow Kayne Releases New Single ‘Rat Race’

Bristol-born singer-songwriter Willow Kayne released her new single ‘Rat Race’ yesterday. At 20 years old, Kayne creates music inspired by personal experiences, creating her own unique space in the genres of pop, punk, hip-hop, soul, and trap.

Whilst speaking backstage at East London’s ‘All Points East’ Festival, Kayne explained her recent track is part of a new project, saying: “This next project is about my experience in London, and in this industry as well, ‘Rat Race’ is about my perception on London and how everything is so fast, and you’ve got to keep up. It delves into that. It’s a bit of a brain-fart that one, but I love it.” Kayne was conflicted about whether she wanted to release the track publicly, adding, “It’s definitely a diary entry tune, and it’s wicked that people love that stuff. I didn’t really think that was going to come out when I first wrote it, so it’s rewarding.”

The genre-blurring pop provocateur picked up the Rising Star Award at the Ivor Novello Awards back in 2021. This award allowed her the opportunity to work and receive mentorship from ‘Chic’ icon and legend, Nile Rodgers. Kayne explained that the experience taught her that there’s no, “crazy, tactical formula to making a banger. There’s no real ‘this is what you have to do to make a banger’. It’s just going with it, which was very lucky to hear actually, it released a lot of stress.” Nile Rodgers has called Kayne a “genuine star in the making.”

Willow released another single in July this year named,”White City”. She described the inspiration for this tune on her instagram, stating, “I wrote this song as a diary entry about London last year. It’s crazy to see history/communities being knocked down and replaced with these gigantic skyscrapers that nobody can afford to live in. Having the two extremes of wealth and poverty right on the same street, not just in White City but everywhere here it seems. “Everyone in the place is seeing a different sunshine” I always think it when I walk down the street in my area, we all have such different perceptions of this place as our home, different views of the same exact place”

Kayne’s genre-fused style has developed from her early upbringing and the eclectic taste of music both her parents had. In an interview Kayne said, “I used to think I wanted to be a pop star, but I’ve realised that’s kind of limiting. If I can change the direction that pop can be, then that’s what success sounds like to me to be honest.”

Radio 2 Live At Home Line-Up Includes Craig David and The Killers

The line-up for the Radio 2 Live At Home festival was announced by Zoe Ball on the Breakfast Show this morning (September 1). The online festival was established earlier this year to bring the joy of Radio 2 Live at Hyde Park, and Proms in the Park, to life during the era of social distancing. Radio 2 Live At Home will feature exclusive new performances from Craig David, Erasure, Gregory Porter, John Legend, The Killers, McFly, Nile Rodgers & Chic with Rebecca Ferguson, The Pretenders, Sheryl Crow and Sir Tom Jones. The festival will take place over the weekend of September 12/13. All the sets will be available on BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer. Throughout the weekend there will also be highlights shows and compilation footage, and furthermore, special BBC Red Button content. After this, the footage will be available for another month.

On Saturday, the live hosts include Fearne Cotton and Rylan Clark-Neal. Sunday’s sets will be presented by Trevor Nelson, Sara Cox and Zoe Ball. A detailed line-up is available in the tweet below.

The UK acts will film their performances at Radio 2’s Live At Home stage which is somewhere in the British countryside. American performers will stream their sets from remote locations; rumour has it that The Killers’ set takes place on the roof of a Las Vegas hotel, and Nile Rodgers and co. will be live in Central Park, New York. British synth pop duo Erasure will perform live from either side of the Atlantic!

In addition to new sets, the other ‘headliners’ will be compiled of some of the best previous performances from earlier years. These will be available on iPlayer in the lead up to the event. Speaking about Radio 2 Live at Home, Craig David says: “Whilst we can’t party in person, we can have a house party for Radio 2 Live at Home.” Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders adds that, “After months in lockdown, come rain or shine, we are so happy to be able to perform in the glorious British outdoors for Radio 2 Live at Home!”

The Head of Music for Radio 2, Jeff Smith, had this to say about the newly digital festival: “Radio 2 Live At Home will celebrate some of our favourite artists performing in the great outdoors, as well as offering the opportunity to relive some classic sets from our Festival in a Day from years gone by. Who wouldn’t want to relive Jeff Lynne’s amazement at 55,000 people singing along as ELO performed their first full set in 27 years, or Kylie’s impromptu reunion with Jason Donovan on stage for a unique performance of Especially for You.”

Funk and disco legends Nile Rodgers and Chic have announced a new UK tour today, confirming that they will see out the year with several huge arena shows around the British Isles. The tour will be in support of the iconic group’s new album Its About Time, which is currently slayed for release on September 28. You can see the full list of dates below.

Chic also release the star-studded collaborative single ‘Till the World Falls,’ which featured Mura Masa, Cosha, and Vic Mensa, and was also co-written with Anderson .Paak, with Rodgers and Mura Masa handling production.

“I am delighted to announce our first ever ARENA tour of the UK. Christmas is indeed coming and we are putting together the party of the festive season!”, Rodgers said.
