The pioneering electronic dance duo, Chase and Status, formed of Saul Milton and Will Kennard have released their sixth album, since their last album, RTRN II JUNGLE in 2019.

The iconic duo dates back all the way to 2003, where they originally formed a friendship whilst studying in Manchester. The pair put the majority of their time and efforts into their music, with Will Kennard deciding to embrace his passion and drop out of university. Despite focusing the majority of his time and effort on creating music and expanding his passion alongside his musical partner, Saul Milton still managed to achieve his honors degree in English and Humanities.

Since then, the pair have now become prodigies of their musical fields, working with impressive names across the industry, such as Major Lazer, Craig David and SHY FX, as well as producing sounds for icons such as Rihanna, Rita Ora and Dizzie Rascal. Their impressive list of collaborations continues with their newest album release: What Came Before.

The album is packed with versatile and groovy sounds, with features from celebrated names such as Popcaan, Pip Millett, Unknown T and more. In a recent interview, the duo delved into their collaborative choices for their latest album, and explained why each artist was chosen to be a part of the journey.

They state that Unknown T has “such a unique, brilliant voice” and go on to equate his vocal talents to the likes of an instrument itself. They go on to unpack how they decided to wield his voice as an instrument and fuse it into the song rather than just “peppering the beat with a song, and I think we did something pretty exciting with that”. They further stated that their collaboration with Pip Millett was inevitable as soon as they heard her track, ‘Running’, featuring Ghetts for the first time. The singer, born and raised in Manchester, further enticed the duo for a collaboration due to their shared connection to the city. Chase and status explained that they spent 6 years of their young adult life there, growing as individuals as well as claiming Manchester as the birthplace of Chase and Status – It seems fitting that the duo decided to collaborate with a successful fellow Mancunian artist for their latest release.

The duo played their first live performance of the new album at the Parklife Festival in Manchester which took place on the 11th and 12th of June, 2022, and they are set to appear at various shows across the UK this summer and links to tickets can be found their official website.

The Mancunian singer has been regarded to the likes of Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill, and Billie Holiday, with her effortless soulful sounds. She has recently announced that she will be collaborating with the iconic electronic duo Chase and Status on their new album What Came Before, set to release on June 10th.

With the singer teasing that a debut album is in the works via a New Year’s Day post earlier this year, who knows what else she will put out for the rest of the year?

Fans were left waiting anxiously for almost two weeks before the singer gave any indication of a UK tour, before finally announcing an official UK tour on the 7th of June, Via Instagram.

English-Irish singer Maverick Sabre released the single, Signs, in advance of his upcoming You Know How It Feels EP. Sabre’s EP is due for release on the 24th July.

Signs addresses the issue of overthinking. Sabre explained that the single reflects the moments in which one gets ‘lost‘ in ‘deep thought or contemplation‘. However, the overall tone of the track is one of hope. ‘Sometimes you need a sign‘, elucidated the artist , ‘to know someone else feels it too‘. The result of Sabre’s intentions is an instrumental which seems to encroach on the soul. Uplifted by the singer’s distinctive vocals, the track swells into chorus before retreating back into haunting verse. The result is four minutes and fifty four seconds worth of induced reflection and soul-searching.

The new album EP is eagerly anticipated, following the creativity that Maverick Sabre displayed in his last studio album, When I Wake Up (2019). The singer-song writer used this body of work to flex an apparently innate ability to tell stories through his music. The tales Sabre documented involved his experiences of growing up in his native County Wexford, Ireland, Grenfell and being a taxi driver. It earned rave reviews, with London In Stereo exclaiming ‘when it is good with Sabre, it is really good‘ and that ‘his voice and commitment to addressing society’s underside confirm his seat at the table‘ . Sabre described his upcoming EP as a ‘continuation’ of When I Wake Up.

Maverick Sabre has been a statesman within the British music scene since he burst onto the scene in 2012 with his album Lonely are the Brave, which boasted the rich, hope-filled, soulful hit I Need. He has collaborated with huge artists, such as Jorja Smith, Chase and Status and Professor Green. He charted with single Let Me Go in 2011 and performed in Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of War of the Worlds – The New Generation (2012), which is a concept album re-imagining H.G.Well’s famous novel. Sabre’s contribution proves his breadth of talent.

Maverick Sabre’s new single, Signs, reflects the singer-song writer’s innate ability to address social issues through song. It is a unique talent which places him on a pantheon amongst the nation’s finest lyricists. Signs addresses the mental health issue of Overthinking. It is a tough one to tackle but Sabre’s eerie vocals and writing style simultaneously evoke a sense of the topic’s seriousness and a feeling of hopeful solidarity. As an artist Sabre stands out through his more soulful tracks, which provide fans with a metaphorical hand to hold and shoulder to cry on.

Chase & Status have released the fourth and final installment in their series of Grime tracks featuring some of the scene’s finest MC’s.

The London Bars series has already seen the likes of Giggs, Frisco, and Bonkaz, spitting over some seriously heavyweight cuts from the Drum & Bass heroes. The final volume, ‘Bigger Man Sound’, has rounded off the series with Grime 2.0 prodigy Novelist – the de facto leader of Lewisham based ‘The Square’ crew.

Unlike the other entries into the series, which employ the the pulse wave basslines and Eskibeats Grime is famous for, ‘Bigger Man Sound’ features devastating brass sounds over trap flavoured beats, reminiscent of Chase & Status’ Pusha T collab ‘Machine Gun’, off of their album Brand New Machine. You can check out the video for ‘Bigger Man Sound’ below:

This isn’t the first time Chase & Status have featured Grime MC’s on their tracks. In 2011 they released ‘Hypest Hype’ featuring Tempa T, the spiritual successor to Tempz’ legendary ’09 anthem ‘Next Hype’.

While we’re all waiting with bated breath for a follow up album to 2013’s Brand New Machine the London Bars series is reaffirmation that Chase & Status can start a fire with any bass heavy genre. However until we do get any information about a new album there is a Craig David collaboration on the horizon for the duo, which he described as “pure flames, man”.

Last week, Craig David dropped his new song “When The Bassline Drops” in collaboration with Big Narstie where it aired on Mistajam’s BBC Radio 1Xtra show for the first time (you can read more about it on a previous article here). Now Craig David has revealed that he is currently working with Diplo and Chase and Status on new material, meaning the king of garage is back and he’s coming back with a bang!

Speaking to Complex, The Garage MC said that he’s been working with “so many new guys,” adding: “I was doing some bits with the Got Some crew, the Eton Messy Bristol crew. That was the same time as Blonde and all those guys. There’s a dude called White Nerd from Manchester, and we’ve done a lot of garage stuff together. He gets it, because he was a fan of the older stuff, but he’s not trying to flex it like the old stuff.”

“There’s Kaytranada as well, who I did some wicked stuff with out in Canada,” he continued. “He’s about to drop his project which is going to be fire, because he’s still on that futuristic R&B thing and he’s taken it electronic. Working with him was dope. Diplo too; we’ve actually got a few things coming up. That’s going to be big. Oh, and GoldLink. He’s got his new record dropping soon, but we have a few bits dropping together next year… Who am I forgetting? Oh! I’ve also done some stuff with Chase & Status. Pure flames, man.”

It’s been five years since his last record Signed Sealed Delivered, and these artists have all risen to prominence in that time whilst he was lurking behind the scenes. David hinted at a new LP since 2011 and was said to release an album in 2013 but until now this had been yet to appear. Recently, the “Re-Rewind” artist has worked with Skrillex, Ms Dynamite and Redlight for Shy FX’s party, joined Major Lazer to perform “Fill Me In” at their gig in London last month and even has appeared at Bestival in September, so the popular garage icon has definitely been making a comeback to the scene.

Craig David also mentioned to Complex: “I did an interview the other day and there was a question about the new music and, from what I can tell, people want it right away. They don’t want any more talk — they just want me to put the tunes out, now. I’m sitting in front of my computer now and I’m seeing lists of songs and songs and songs. Come 2016, if it starts to get long, I’ll just put them all up on SoundCloud”.

When asked when his next LP should be expected, the Garage MC replied: “I’m not going to be the guy who says it because I’ve had so many fans say, ‘You told me 2013 and it’s still not here!’ Even I thought it was coming out then. 2016, though, the album – it’s called ‘Following My Intuition’ – it’ll definitely be dropping and hopefully the early side of the year as well. I’m very thankful and glad to see such love come at this point in my career. I’m 34 years old! I’m seeing people starting at 34 on their first record and I’m like: ‘I’m coming for you!’ I’m in that mode, man. It’s gonna be a good time.”

Speaking to NME recently, David voiced his desire to work with Kasabian in the future: “They’re the kind of group I could create something with,” he said.

Craig David went from rising to fame by being featured on an Artful Dodger track “Re-rewind” to getting Artful Dodger to feature on his tracks, his music was adored worldwide so it was upsetting for millions when he disappeared from the music scene. Now fans stretching from the UK to Canada are eagerly awaiting his new album which he guarantees will be dropped on the early side of 2016.
