The success of ‘Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally’ marks the biggest opening week for a male soloist since Ed Sheeran’s Divide which was released in March 2017. Harry’s latest album is the first to surpass 100,000 weekly sales since Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ in October 2025. Olivia Dean’s ‘The Art Of Loving’ and Morrissey’s ‘Make-Up Is A Lie’ take up the second and third sports on the albums chart respectively.

Styles is set to take the album on tour starting in May with dates in the UK, Europe, South America, North America and Australia with support from acts including Shania Twain, Jorja Smith and Robyn. Ahead of the shows, the British singer also performed for one night only in Manchester and released a showing of the performance of Netflix allowing fans to get a taste of what might be to come.

The 31 year old came to fame on the ITV’s The X Factor in 2010 alongside Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson as a part of One Direction. Following the group’s hiatus, Harry Styles released his first album in 2017. ‘Harry Styles’ peaked at number one in the UK and the US and was one of the world’s top-ten best-selling albums of the year. His second album ‘Fine Line’ and it’s most popular single ‘Watermelon sugar both topped US Billboard Charts. Whilst, his third album ‘Harry’s House’ received the Grammy Award for Album Of the Year.

Most recently, Styles was both the musical guest and host on SNL. Last night, he performed ‘Dance No More’ and ‘Carla’s Song’ as well as taking part and showing his acting prowess in many skits. Styles has dipped his toe into acting with a cameo in Marvel’s Eternals, as well as leading roles in My Policeman and Don’t Worry Darling.

Among the cast members is Joe Keery, better known as Djo, his musical alter ego. Djo is Keery’s first solo musical endeavour, prior to Stranger Things he played in a band called Post Animal. Once the success of Stranger Things skyrocketed, Keery rapidly noted that he could no longer perform the same intimate shows with his Post Animal band mates that he once knew, without fans screaming about Steve Harrington in a darkly lit room. Since his Post Animal days, Keery quietly worked on his solo projects and mastering his musical artistry and has since released four albums over his musical career, including a deluxe version of his record ‘The Crux’.

His very first solo project was released in 2019 named, ‘Twenty Twenty’ and despite not reaching mainstream chart success, Djo had amounted a cult like online following, some fans even not drawing the connection that the same Steve Harrington that struts around in a sailor’s costume is the musically talented artist that we have all grown to love.

Keery’s music faced never before seen levels in popularity during early 2024. The artist’s album ‘Decide’ seemingly became an overnight hit however there is one track that held the torch. ‘End Of Beginning’ was heard everywhere, and this specific victory lap started with a Tiktok virality that no one could have predicted.

The song surged in 2024, hitting number 11 on the US Billboard hot 100 and number 4 on the UK charts. The songs popularity is no surprise as it discusses themes that many individuals relate to. Typically interpreted as a song about revisiting a formative time and place from your past, it is riddled with nostalgia and fond memories. Kerry himself stated that he wrote the track about leaving Chicago for Los Angeles once he landed his Stranger Things role.

Due to the success and sheer demand of the recent release of the final season of Stranger Things, many fans have reignited their love for Djo as an artist and are reminded of truly how spell-bounding his musical abilities are. As of January 5, 2026, ‘End Of Beginning’ is now number one globally, knocking down Taylor Swift’s, ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’. Almost two years on the song is still only growing in popularity now amounting close to two billion streams on Spotify alone. All this time later fans are still rediscovering and streaming this song, it is no doubt bound to be a nostalgic classic in years to come.

It goes without saying that Keery’s otherworldly success as an artist will continue to progress in years to come, and rightfully so! His musical talent has gone unnoticed for far too long.

However, Liam and Noel Gallagher still face tough competition. Last week’s chart leader, Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’, is trailing by just 500 chart units (number two), while Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’ remains a strong contender at number three.

Currently, Lamar‘s ‘Not Like Us‘ is topping the charts for the first time, having charted at number two last week, after a long climb that peaked after the artist’s much acclaimed Super Bowl Half time Show. It is the artist’s first song to achieve the number one position in the UK, after two albums have also claimed number one, most recently his latest release titled ‘GNX‘.

Chappell Roan‘s ‘Pink Pony Club‘ has also been climbing charts, and it has to yet to achieve the number one position. It debuted in mid-September of last year and currently the number three position is the highest it has ever been. If it achieved the number one position, it would mark the artist’s first song to ever do so, after ‘Good Luck Babe’ peaked at number two last year. ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess‘, Chappell Roan’s debut album, has spent various non-consecutive weeks at number one.

Currently, Official Charts predicts Oasis’s ‘Whatever’ as number one, ‘Not Like Us’ by Lamar at number two, Chappell Roan at number three, Lady Gaga with ‘Abracadabra‘ at number four, and Benson Boone’s ‘Beautiful Things’ at number five. They also predict that chart topper ‘Messy’, currently charting at number two, will fall off the charts at the tenth position.

Furthermore, American singer Tate McRae could see a significant boost following the release of ‘So Close to What’. Her track ‘sports car‘ is on course to reach a new peak inside the Top 10 at number six, while ‘Revolving Door’ is set for a strong debut in the Top 20 at number seventeen.

Sam Fender’s ‘People Watching‘ is expected to re-enter the Top 10 after the release of his highly anticipated third album. Meanwhile, ‘Arm’s Length’ could climb higher, currently charting at number 13, and ‘Little Bit Closer’ is poised to make its chart debut. Official Charts has named Fender’s latest release the album with the biggest opening of the year with only a few days of tracking.

Another new entry to charts is expected to be Selena Gomez’s collaboration with fiancé Benny Blanco and rising pop star Gracie Abrams, ‘Call Me When You Break Up’, which is projected to debut on charts this week, marking Selena’s first Top 20 single in six years.

Written by John Legend for his then-fiancée, now wife, Chrissy Teigen, ‘All Of Me’ is a piano and vocal ballad that has become a popular choice for weddings and romantic occasions. It shot to number one on the Billboard 200, and number two on the UK Singles Chart.

The UK’s top 10 love songs have an average BPM of 111. This shows that songs with faster tempos may boost your romantic mood.

The participants were asked which genres they found to be the most romantic – around a quarter (24%) chose chill-out music, followed closely by pop (21%) and RnB (20%). Lower in the romantic rankings were hip hop (2%), heavy metal (1%) and house music (0.7%).

In 2021, the official UK Charts Company compiled their data to make a list of the ‘Best-selling Love Songs of All-Time’, based on both physical sales and downloads. At the top of the list was “Love Is All Around” by Scottish soft-rockers, Wet Wet Wet. Originally written and performed by the Troggs, the song was covered by Wet Wet Wet for the soundtrack of the film Four Weddings and A Funeral. The tune managed to sell 1.91 million copies and spent 15 weeks at No.1.

Following closely was ‘Unchained Melody’ by Robson and Jerome. Originally written as a theme for the film Unchained, it has since been recorded in over 1,500 recordings by more than 670 artists. The Robson and Jerome version became the best-selling single of 1995 in the UK, also becoming Simon Cowell’s first big hit after he signed the two popstars. Another cover version by Gareth Gates made it onto the best-sellers list.

24 years old Young first rose to fame in 2021, when her cover of Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder’s ‘Together In Electric Dreams’ became the soundtrack for John Lewis’s Christmas commercial of that year; in the same year, she was nominated for a BRITs Rising Star Award and the following year, in 2022, she was placed at number four on the BBC’s Sound of the Year list.

Young’s debut album, released in 2019, is titled ‘Intro‘ and it was followed by several singles and EPs. In 2023, her second album ‘My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely‘ was released; despite failing to appear in the Official Album Charts, the album peaked at 37 on the Official Physical Albums Chart which looks at the amount of physical copies of an album sold rather than streaming units.

The chart-topping single ‘Messy’ was released as the lead single for Young’s latest release, an 11-tracks album titled ‘This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway‘, which will likely make its debut on Official Albums Charts in the upcoming weeks. The album has in fact re-entered the Official Albums Download Charts a couple of weeks ago, after it first debuted at number 75 upon its release.

In a recent interview with BBC, Young has shared the backstory of the song and stated it was really personal to here, saying:

“The response has been amazing and it’s been really exciting to see all the love that Messy has been receiving, I love the song, it’s a song I wrote that’s really personal and really important to me. So I’m really happy that it’s resonating so much.”

In the same interview, she then went on to say that the meaning of the song is contradictory, and the it feels like “basically like you’re not enough for somebody and also in turn not enough for yourself”.

After spending last week at number 21 and the previous two at number two, ‘That’s So True‘ by Gracie Abrams returned to number one, becoming the first number one song of 2025. ‘That’s So True’ became a hit after being released alongside the deluxe version of Abrams’s second full length album, ‘The Secret of Us‘, which also contains a song featuring Taylor Swift. It is Abrams’s first number one song, after ‘I Love You, I’m Sorry’ peaked at number four. The song is currently on its sixth week at number one and overall it has spent eleven weeks charting with a debut at number nineteen. In March, Abrams will embark on a completely sold out tour of the UK, where she’ll play the O2 Arena in London, which has a capacity of 20,000: a big step compared to the 2,000 people venues she played last year on her ‘Good Riddance Tour’.

At number two, Rosé and Bruno Mars are still going strong with their ‘Apt‘, originally released as the lead single for Rosé’s debut solo album ‘Rosie‘ which peaked at number one and spent two weeks in the UK top 100. The song, which has already become a radio classic, debuted at number four and eventually peaked at number two, always blocked by Abrams. Last week, the song was charting at number 28 but it made a comeback to the top spots of the charts big enough that it might even achieve that number one position in the upcoming weeks. In the meantime, Bruno Mars’s collaboration with Lady Gaga ‘Die With a Smile‘ was included in the biggest songs of 2024, claiming the 37th spot in the list.

At number three, London-based Lola Young peaks with TikTok viral ‘Messy‘. The song first appeared on charts at the end of November at number 87. Slowly but steadily, it climbed charts and finally reached the top ten! Young was nominated for a BRITs rising star award back in 2021, and was included in BBC’s Sound of 2022 poll where she arrived fourth. Despite already being recognised in the UK music industry, Young gains her breakthrough song with ‘Messy’, which is the only song by the artist to ever chart. Official Charts included Young’s an artist to watch in 2025, and her hit song is predicted to achieve an even higher position in the weeks to come.

At number four, a big comeback for ‘Sailor Song‘ by Gigi Perez that had previously fallen out of the top ten; Perez takes back the top spots and tries to climb back to number one which ‘Sailor Song’ had achieved at the beginning of November. Number five is a song that is new to the top spots of charts: ‘The Days‘ by Chrystal, like Young, also had a slow ascent towards the number one position but it is now getting there and did not let the festive slump stop it!

Noah Kahan‘s 2022 hit ‘Stick Season‘ takes the number one spot for the biggest song of 2024, in the same year where Kahan performed sold out shows at Wembley Arena and was announced as a headliner for next year’s BST Hyde Park. The song was originally released as the lead single of Kahan’s critically acclaimed album ‘Stick Season‘, which peaked at number one on UK charts and has so far spent 81 weeks charting; the song ‘Stick Season’ first debuted on charts in mid-October of 2023 and eventually peaked at number one in January, claiming the title for seven weeks! It is currently Kahan’s only single to achieve the number one position. According to Official Charts, Kahan’s single produced 35,000 sales and 217 million streams, making it the biggest song of the year!

Second is Benson Boone‘s rock ballad ‘Beautiful Things‘, which took nine weeks of climbing charts to achieve the number one position, but eventually did and maintained the spot for two weeks. Boone first gained attention on TikTok, then auditioned for a talent show and gained a sold fanbase; ‘Beautiful Things’ is the artist’s first ever song to achieve the number one position in the UK, but that is not to say Boone is a one-hit wonder: his album debuted at number 16 in the UK, and the single ‘Slow It Down’ reached the fourteenth position. With 1.79 charts units, Benson Boone wins a well-deserved second place on the list of biggest songs of the year.

On the podium at third place, we have chart-topper queen Sabrina Carpenter, who spent 21 weeks at number one. The song that wins third place is ‘Espresso’, one of the highest charting song about coffee ever; ‘Espresso‘ was the lead single off of Carpenter’s album ‘Short n Sweet‘. Originally released in April, ‘Espresso’ took about a month to make its way to number one and claimed the position for seven weeks. With 1.75 charts units, it is one of three songs by Carpenter that made it to the biggest songs of the year list: the others are ‘Please Please Please'(10)  and ‘Taste’ (21).

At number four is Teddy Swims ‘Lose Control‘, which peaked at number two and charted for sixty weeks in the top 100. It counts 67,000 downloads this year and is the artist’s highest charting song, followed by ‘The Door’ at number five and ‘Bad Dreams’ at number six. ‘Lose Control’ was a single off the album ‘I’ve Tried Everything but Therapy‘, Teddy Swim’s first release under a major label, which peaked at number twelve in the UK spending fifty weeks on charts.

Number five goes to Hozier, who achieved his first number one single with viral hit ‘Too Sweet‘, released as part of his fifth EP ‘Unheard‘. Hozier first climbed the UK charts in 2015 with ‘Take Me To Church’ which failed to achieve the top spot of chart peaking at number two. With ‘Too Sweet’, Hozier spent two weeks at number one and another 39 in the UK top 100.

Miley Cyrus led the way with her hit single “Flowers,” spending ten weeks at No 1. Other talented artists such as Dua Lipa, Ellie Goulding, Kenya Grace, Raye, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift also enjoyed time at the top spot.

In fact, Goulding, Cyrus, Swift, Raye, SZA, PinkPantheress, and Libianca dominated seven out of the top 10 most popular tracks of the year. This achievement is the highest number of female-led tracks in the history of the Official Singles Chart, which spans over 70 years.

Goulding’s collaboration with Calvin Harris, “Miracle,” was particularly notable, and the rest of the top 10 featured artists like Dave, Central Cee, and Rema.

Dr Jo Twist, the chief executive of BPI, expressed her delight at this significant shift but also stressed the importance of not becoming complacent. She emphasised the need for continued efforts in the music industry, she said,“Our work in the music industry continues to ensure that this becomes the norm.” 

Furthermore, an impressive 48.5% of all songs that reached the Top 10 this year were either solo efforts or collaborations by female artists. This represents the highest annual share of Top 10 hits by female musicians in this century.

In 2023, the British music industry saw its ninth consecutive year of growth, with album sales and streams increasing by 10% to a total of 182.8 million. Streaming reached a record high with 179.6 billion audio streams, a 12.8% increase from the previous year. However, no new releases achieved platinum status, indicating a“crisis” in the industry according to music writer Patrick Clifton. He added,“A new generation of artists is not building fanbases that will buy gig and festival tickets in two, five, or 10-years’ time, and is not popularising songs that will have ubiquity in our culture once this generation of music fans reaches old age. The artists who succeed, he argued, are those who are able to cultivate a “two-way” relationship with fans on social media, and “don’t mind revisiting songs from their repertoire if those songs blow up”.

Vinyl records sales reached a remarkable milestone, surpassing 6 million units, marking the highest total since 1990. Additionally, CD sales remained strong with a staggering 10 million albums sold. Furthermore, cassette sales maintained their steady performance, exceeding 100,000 units for the fourth consecutive year.

However, it is undeniable that streaming has become the dominant force in the UK’s music landscape. Accounting for a remarkable 87.7% of the market share, streaming has experienced a substantial growth compared to 63.6% five years ago.

Through the announcement of the Singles Chart, the ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ singers record-breaking achievement was revealed. The group have made UK chart records by having releases stay within the top 10 longer than any other girl group. The group’s single ‘Heartbreak Anthem’ which was released on 20th May 2021 remained within the top 10 this week when the song charted at number 7, the single’s position sees it chart within the top 10 for 100 weeks. The single saw the group collaborate with Swedish DJ duo, Galantis and French DJ and producer David Guetta and has been certified silver by the BPI.

Bandmember, Leigh- Anne Pinnock has spoken out in celebration of this record and thanks to the group’s fans for their support. “Wow! It’s amazing, and we wouldn’t have done this without you guys. You never fail to blow us away – you’re just incredible and we wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you.”

Despite the departure of their fourth member Jesy Nelson, this year has been a fruitful experience for Little Mix. The group have been breaking records and collecting accolades, their most recent award was at this year’s Brit awards for their 2021 studio album, ‘Confetti’. The band were the first girl group to win the Best British Group award, within their acceptance speech the group dedicated the award to ex-member Jesy Nelson and their creative and production teams, “Thank you to everyone who’s supported us over the last 10 years. Thank you to our incredible team, and everyone who worked with us on Confetti.” The trio, Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, also thanked the efforts of the key workers within the current pandemic. “And of course, to the key workers who continue to work for the health of the nation”

The trio also addressed issues in which were important to them, “It’s not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We’ve seen the white male dominance, misogyny, sexism, and lack of diversity. We’re proud of how we’ve stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women, and are now using our voices more than ever.” The hitmakers then continued to dedicate the award to the girl groups who came before them. “The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes. So this award isn’t just for us, it’s for Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all of the incredible, incredible female bands … this one’s for you. So thank you BRITs, and we hope you have an amazing night.”

Previous girl bands who have come close to Little Mix’s achievement include Girls Aloud, the fivesome once spent 61 weeks within the charts. The group was made popular by the historic talent show ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ in 2002 and also spent a total of 8 weeks in the number one position. The next record is 59 weeks within the top 10, set by Motown icons The Supremes. The ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ singers are known to be one of America’s most successful girl groups and rivalled the Beatles popularity within the 1960s. The Sugababes take the bronze position with a total of 57 weeks within the top 10, despite the group’s many line-ups changes the ‘Overload’ singers have had four albums certified platinum and have won a Brit Award for Best British Dance Act in 2003. Lastly one of music’s most iconic girl groups, Spice Girls, take fourth place with 50 weeks within the charts. Responsible for popularizing the phrase ‘Girl Power’, Spice Girls have remained a favourite of any music fan and sparked Britain’s love for girl groups in the 1990s.

In other news, the group’s waxwork figures at Madame Tussauds have now been unveiled to the public. The band’s waxworks include ex-member Nelson and depict the group in the outfits and aesthetics featured in their music video for the 2019 single ‘Bounce Back’. The work on the group’s entry started in early 2020, which may account for the look chosen and inclusion of Nelson. Fans will be able to see the real thing live when the trio hit the road next year for their UK tour.

The 23 year olds project titled ‘We are all alone in this together’ shot to number 1 this week. The project outsold  Anne Maries ‘Therapy’ album which charted at second by over 55 thousand album sales, selling 74 thousand albums in the first week. This made it not only Dave’s second number 1 album but also the highest first-week sales for a UK rap album in over a decade.

The album went silver with its first week sales, the only other UK rap album to do this are Tinie Tempah’s ‘Discovery’ and Stormzys ‘Gang Sings and prayers’.

Alongside the album going number 3 tracks found themselves in the top 10, ‘Clash’ featuring Stormzy charted at second, ‘Verdansk’ at 4 and ‘In the fire’ with an all-star lineup of Fredo, Meekz, Ghetts and Giggs charting at 6th.

Dave shared the news of his album going number one and gave a shout out to his fans in the caption, saying “This is the work of the people, the best supporters on earth” ending the post with “It’s our number 1”.

Dave gave back to his fans while rolling out the album, handing out Jordan 4s in Central London to his fans as well as purchasing one of his fans a Rolex.

While celebrating his accomplishment around friends and family the 23-year-old superstar from Streatham was surprised by fellow UK rap giant, Sttormzy, with a 1 of 1 Audemar Piquet.

Dave may have just released an album but it seems as though this year has much more for him to achieve, in the intro of his latest project he teased that he may be playing a role in an upcoming movie. As well as this he will headling Manchester Parklife festival.
