The 1975 have once again teamed up with War Child UK, releasing a limited edition set of signed prints in an effort to raise funds for Children in Conflict.

The band have created prints in collaboration with Soundwaves Art, a non-profit organisation that creates art using the soundwaves of artists’ songs to then sell in support of various global charities.

Soundwaves Art was established in 2005 by Tim Wakefield, a British artist with a passion for music. He has collaborated with over 500 artists since Soundwaves Art’s conception, raising in excess of $7.5 million for a number of charities. Tim creates his art pieces through a multimedia process to capture the soundwaves of iconic songs.

War Child UK is celebrating its 30^th anniversary of offering invaluable support to children caught in war zones, and in honour of this, Soundwaves Art will be releasing 30 artworks throughout the year to raise proceeds for the charity.

The team at Soundwaves Art said, “We’re starting off with a banger!”

“The guys signed artwork of “I’m In Love With You” a few weeks back and were so excited to release them today to raise money for War Child’s programs with children displaced by war.”

A limited selection of signed and unsigned prints are available, as well as the one-of-a-kind original artworks hand signed by Matty Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, George Daniel and Soundwaves Art creator, Tim Wakefield. Lead singer Matty Healy has also written ‘I’m In Love With You’ on the originals with added framing optional for each version.

The 1975 have paired up with War Child UK on various occasions, most recently playing an intimate show on 1^st February on their home turf at Gorilla in Manchester to raise money for the charity. Matty took to social media to publicise the show and to raise awareness for War Child UK’s efforts.

The show was part of Brits Week 2023 which saw artists including Sugababes, The Hunna and Years & Years also staging intimate shows in partnership with War Child UK. The charity does incredible work, offering life-saving aid, psychological support and education to children caught in war-torn countries.To learn more about War Child UK, click here.

The Soundwaves Art proceeds will go to Children in Conflict, a non-profit that’s working with War Child UK to provide aid to children in need. They are currently providing emergency relief to those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. You can learn more about their efforts here.

All donations and proceeds from the concert will be given to War Child UK to aid in their ongoing mission. Until 31st May 2022, any donation made will be matched by the UK Government as stated via the ticket site, “Your donation will help the unfolding crisis in Ukraine, and match funding from the UK Government will also go to Yemen where millions of children are still in desperate need of protection from conflict.”

Those billed to perform at the War Child benefit show include IDLES, Billy Nomates, Katy J Pearson, Heavy Lungs, Wilderman, Willie J Healey and British icons Portishead. The growing line-up also includes Boca 45 along with guest DJs and Raffle, further announcements will be made to confirm additional acts.

Head of War Child Records Rich Clarke has released a statement thanking all acts involved, within the statement Clarke also describes the organisation’s mission and how the benefit show will provide support, “We deliver life-changing services and support in communities affected by conflicts to keep children safe and help them to heal and learn for the chance of a better future. The impact of the situation in Ukraine will affect an entire generation and there will be acutely vulnerable children who need our help to stay safe. The money raised by this gig will make sure that we can respond quickly to children who need that support right now.”

The benefit show will mark Portishead’s triumphant return to the stage, the HELP! Concert will be the group’s first and only live performance in seven years. The British pioneers had this to say about their upcoming appearance, “We are really pleased to be able to support the people of Ukraine by performing a few songs at this event in collaboration with the amazing War Child charity”

Bristol rockers Idles will be performing at their only hometown show for 2022 at the War Child UK event. The band are currently on tour and will continue their European tour dates after the concert. Frontman Joe Talbot has also spoken concerning the one-off show, “We have been kindly invited to play this show for the benefit of War Child. Please donate or sign up to this charity. We believe that nobody should endure war, especially children. Thank you,”

Fellow Bristol rockers Heavy Lungs will also be performing alongside Idles at the benefit show, the two groups’ connection runs deeper than matching hometowns. In 2018, IDLES released the single “Danny Nedelko”, named after the Heavy Lungs’ frontman. The single tells a story of strength and is regarded as a tribute to multiculturalism. Originally from Ukraine, Nedelko has given the following statement concerning the fundraising event, “Hailing originally from Odessa, this is a cause very close to my heart. It’s incredibly special being a part of this show. We are going to bring our absolute best.”

Music fans will be able to get their hands on tickets by entering the prize draw, there are 600 pairs of tickets up for grabs. The draw opened today and all winners are chosen at random, and the competition closes at midnight on 24th April 2022. You can enter for free or pay a £10 donation fee which supplies three entries, donations can be made online or through a postcard.

There is no limit to the number of times in which you may enter and winners will be notified by email from Ticketmaster on Monday 25th April 2022. Due to the limited number of seats, tickets are very exclusive but all entrees will receive access to watch a stream of the event.

A press release for Concert For Ukraine provides the following statement, “Concert for Ukraine will bring together names from the world of music for a unique event spreading a message of hope and support, and most importantly, raising funds for the ongoing DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal…The broadcast will combine emotive music performances with short films recognising the ongoing relief efforts and the plight faced by people affected by the conflict in Ukraine. Viewers will be able to donate money to the cause throughout the evening.”

Head Of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, Katie Rawcliffe has also spoken on the forthcoming show, “Music is a very powerful tool when it comes to showing support and solidarity, and at ITV we are proud and privileged to be working with Livewire Pictures, Global, M&S and the DEC on such an important and necessary fundraising event.”

Along with proceeds raised throughout the benefit show, revenue generated by sponsorships and advertising from the broadcast will also be donated to the DEC fund. The donation will be made by ITV and has been estimated to reach over £ 3 million.  Working alongside ITV to produce the event are Live wire Pictures, Global, one of Europe’s largest entertainment groups, the show will also be sponsored by Marks & Spencer.

Chief executive of the DEC, Saleh Saeed has supplied the following statement for the benefit’s press release, “It is heart-breaking to see the deepening crisis unfolding in Ukraine as more refugees cross the borders each day with nothing more than what they can carry. The situation for those inside the country is becoming increasingly precarious. But there is something we can all do to bring hope. Funds raised by this concert will make a real difference to those affected by the conflict, sending a strong message of love and enabling DEC charities to help now with urgent aid as well as helping to rebuild lives in the months and years ahead. We are grateful to ITV, Livewire Pictures, Global and M&S for their support to this appeal, our special thanks to ITV who have supported DEC with emergency appeals over many decades and just recently for Afghanistan.”

The DEC is a global organisation that joins together fifteen of the UK’s leading aid charities to raise money and support during times of crisis.  A statement on the DEC’s website outlines their actions, “Pooling our resources to work as one, we are pivotal in co-ordinating the UK public’s response to overseas disasters. In collaboration with our Rapid Response Network of national media and corporate partners, we raise the alarm to the UK public and set up easy ways to donate.”

Due to the current crisis overseas, the DEC set up the Ukraine Humanitarian appeal in support of those fleeing the conflict. The organisation aims to provide much-needed supplies such as water, shelter, food, healthcare, and protection. The appeal’s most recent triumph was announced on 17th March 2022, the DEC confirmed that £200 million has been raised since the appeal’s launch two weeks ago.

All proceeds from the event were donated to Nordoff Robbins to ensure that the continuation of the charities positive influence. The donated funds will enable the charity’s music therapists to continue their important work to utilise music’s power to help those suffering from mental and physical difficulties. A statement from the charity’s website describes their work, “At Nordoff Robbins, we stand for music and believe in the value of music for all people in our society. Our vision is to live in a world where through music therapy, human potential is recognised regardless of profound disability, illness or social exclusion.”

The annual fundraising concert was hosted by music icon Nile Rodgers and included headline acts Sir Rod Stewart, Imelda May and Jess Gillam. Sir Stewart treated ticketholders to a setlist including the hit single “Have I Told You Lately” and the festive classic “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”. The singer then concluded the show with an improvised rendition of the classic “Shake, Rattle And Roll”. Dublin born singer also delighted the audience with a set including her 2021 hit “Don’t Let Me Stand On My Own” as well as a reading of her poem “Home”. May was also joined on stage by Sir Stewart and the duo performed an emotional duet of “Grace”. Gillam also adhered to the festive theme and performed a rendition of “Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence”.  The event’s host also took to Instagram to announce the event, within the post Rodgers also provided link to the charity.

The event also saw performances from Shakira, Eurythmics Songbook featuring David A. Stewart along with special guest Beverley Knight, Enrique Iglesias and Lindsey Buckingham, The event’s host Nile Rodgers also performed with his band CHIC, all acts performed at St. Luke’s Church and all performances are available to stream. The event’s stream also features accessible sets from previous years’ line up, past acts available to stream include Neil Young and Robbie Williams.

The Christmas concert also included a treat for literature fans, actors gave readings from celebrated texts. Clarke Peters read from The Journey of the Magi by T.S Eliot, the American actor is best known for his work in The Wire. The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy was read by English actress Alice Eve and Rory Bremmer read from King John’s Christmas by A.A. Milne.

The event’s host Nile Rodgers has given the following statement expressing the charities’ importance, “Get together with family and friends and settle down for a musical treat from the comfort of your own sofa for Christmas carols with a difference as The Stars Come Out To Sing At Christmas 2021 – to help raise vital funds for a whole range of people who need it most, including children with autism who rely on music therapy for a sense of connection and those affected by life-limiting illnesses or disability. Nordoff Robbins believes in the value of music for all people in our society – which is why it’s so close to my heart. I understand the power of music and have witnessed how music therapy can connect people who may otherwise feel isolated or disconnected from the world. It’s the universal values that we can all express through music that brings us together in a unique way. I’m honoured to be hosting this special online concert for the second year running, bringing together some of my friends from the music world, including one of my favourites – Sir Rod Stewart – who feel just as passionately as I do about the important work of Nordoff Robbins.”

The Danceathon started on the morning of 16th November 2012 and was streamed live via BBC iPlayer. The philanthropic event saw the singer move and dance for an entire day and night. The challenge took place at the BBC Radio Theatre in London, the stage was constructed to reflect the perfect kitchen for a disco. The “Murder On The Dancefloor” singer donned various glamorous outfits and performed numerous routines involving dancing, ribbons and karaoke.

The singer also performed tracks from her back catalogue including hit songs such as “Take Me Home”. The singer was accompanied by her husband and fellow musician Richard Jones for a rendition of “Murder On The Dancefloor”. The musical duo performed the singer’s most popular track with Jones playing a bass guitar shaped like the Millennium Flacon. Ellis-Bextor was joined by her entire family towards the end of the Danceathon who danced with the singer until the finish line. The danceathon came to a close with a group performance of the beloved and aptly chosen ABBA track “Dancing Queen”.

The 42-year-old singer was joined by multiple guests who also took part in the charity’s 41st year of fundraising. The star-studded and long list of guests included comedian Simon Pegg, Beverley Knight, DJ Edith Bowman, reality TV figures Gemma Collins and Jamie Laing and BBC Radio presenters Zoe Ball and Sara Cox.

Ellis-Bextor and Ball spoke on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show once the danceathon had concluded. The singer held an emotional conversation with Ball whilst kneeling on the stage and stated, “What a team, thank you so much. I’ve been so well supported. This has been extraordinary. I always thought this would be an privilege to have done and I’ve never done anything like this so I want to thank everybody for giving me the opportunity and I’ve been weepy solidly for the last hour this has been really special and thank you to everybody who donated and everybody who gave me energy and support and messages, it’s got me through.” The interview continued with Ball thanking Ellis-Bextor for her involvement in the charity whilst congratulating and admiring her family and giving spirit.

Head of Radio 2, Helen Thomas, has given the following statement concerning Ellis-Bextor’s triumphant success. “All of us at Radio 2 would like to say the hugest thank you to Sophie Ellis-Bextor for agreeing to undertake and now completing an incredible 24 hours Kitchen Disco Danceathon, raising a total so far of £1,009,317 for BBC Children In Need. Thank you to all the wonderful Radio 2 listeners who have donated and all those who joined at any point in the Danceathon to support and motivate Sophie along the way. We are all in awe of her accomplishment!”

The name of the charitable initiative is derived from the weekly “Kitchen Discos” in which Ellis-Bextor held over Instagram live during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns. The mini-concerts started in 2020 and featured the singer at home with her family. On 16th July 2020, the singer released her greatest hits album entitled Songs From The Kitchen Disco. The singer’s Kitchen Disco’s also gained attention when formed as a weekly BBC radio show presented by Ellis-Bextor.

The singer has kept the popular theme throughout her career with her 2022 tour entitled Kitchen Disco Tour. Ellis-Bextor will embark on her upcoming tour on 6th March 2022 and will perform in over 20 cities across the UK.

The annual Carousel of Hope event, part of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, went virtual for the first time this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The fundraising gala opened with a stunning duet by Cynthia Erivo and Adam Lambert performing Aretha Franklin and George Michael’s, ‘I Knew You Were Waiting.’

The event featured other performances from singing sensations Andrea Bocelli, Rod Stewart, and Jennifer Hudson. Gwen Steffani and Blake Shelton sung their duet ‘Happy Anywhere,’ and Tony Bennet did a splendid performance of ‘The Way You Look Tonight.’ Barry Manilow did a moving performance of ‘One Voice,’ accompanied with a choir and American singer / songwriter Babyface, performed with his guitar in a black and white video wearing a tee-shirt displaying the words ‘Freedom.’ Video clips of previous performances by superstars Beyoncé from 2004 , Ricky Martin from 2000 and Whitney Houston from 1990 were also shown. The gala hosted by Jay Leno, also displayed video appearances by stars George Clooney, Tom Hanks and Oprah.

Grammy winning producer and musical director of the Carousel Ball shared his favourite memory of the event to variety.com whereby a less famous Michael Bublé, “Kept walking around saying ‘this is more incredible than the Oscars’ – not that he had ever been to the Oscars at that point,” he recalled. “Or getting to accompany a very young Celine Dion, as she dazzled the audience with her out of the world voice.”

Founded in 1978, The Carousel of Hope Ball was set up as a fundraiser for the Barbara Davis Centre for Diabetes in Aurora, Colorado and the Children’s Diabetes Foundation. Davis established the foundation in 1977 due to her daughter suffering from Type 1 diabetes which has since aided research to treat young people with the condition. For the first time in 40 years, the annual charity event opened its doors to everyone with a virtual extravaganza. Saturday nights virtual gala raised more than $1 million whilst also being a night for celebration for Davis’ 90^th birthday. The incredible closing performance of ‘That’s What Friends Are For,’ which was delivered over zoom by Sam Smith, Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, Kenny G and Erivo was accompanied by a video of photos celebrating Davis’ legacy and the Carousel Ball.

The singer, who last year released his fifth studio album, My Name Is Michael Holbrook, billed the upcoming show as ‘a very special performance’, adding that there will be ‘some surprises’ for viewers. As well as organising the benefit concert, Mika has also set up a GoFundMe page, where anyone can make donations to aid the city’s recovery; the page has already collected over £18,300 since being created on August 20.

Mika is of Lebanese descent and was born in Beirut, where, on August 4, 178 people were killed and over 6,000 were injured in an explosion caused by 3,000 tonnes of illegally stored ammonium nitrate in the city’s port. The artist wrote: ‘Beirut has been through so much and the resilience and strength the Lebanese people is undeniable. It is the place of my birth, a part of me and will always be in my heart’.

The artist’s announcement of the I Love Beirut show follows a series of online activity related to the tragic incident in Lebanon. In another moving letter to its citizens, Mika expressed his grief and deepest sympathies, as well as criticising the country’s leadership. He remarked: ‘I cannot but think of these two explosions as a symbol of a system which is shattering’. 

The singer said that it was this leadership which steered Lebanon into ‘a series of misfortunes’, which he argues led to the recent disaster. He called out Hassan Diab, the country’s Prime Minister, after he said that those responsible for the explosion would be ‘held accountable’. To this, Mika responded: ‘Those responsible for whom? For what? Those responsible for 30 years of agony which have turned the land of cedars into the land of ashes’. The Port of Beirut, the epicentre of the blast, is indeed owned and overseen by the Lebanese government.

The Lebanese Red Cross, one of the charities receiving support from Mika’s September show, has been working on the front lines in Beirut amid the recent catastrophe, its volunteers providing free life-saving disaster relief. Save the Children, a British charity also receiving revenue from the performance, has set up an emergency fund to aid Beirut’s children, thousands of whom are now homeless.

Tickets to Mika’s I Love Beirut benefit concert can be purchased for £10 each, all of which will be donated to the above charities.

The UNCancelled show will be streamed from Knebworth House in Stevenage. It will be streamed for free on the Meerkat Music YouTube channel at 8pm. This will be the band’s first performance together after their UK Summer Tour was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. When asked about the cancelled shows Leigh-Anne Pinnock said; “We’ve been devastated that we couldn’t perform live this Summer, it’s the thing we have missed the most as a band.”

Nordoff Robbins is the UK’s largest independent music therapy charity, they use music to enrich the lives of people with life-limiting illnesses, disabilities and feelings of isolation. Sandra Schembri, CEO of Nordoff Robbins, said: “Given that during this time we’re all discovering the power of music to help lift our spirits and unite us, it makes real sense to join forces to spread the message that making music together really matters.”

David Martin, chief executive for MS Trust, spoke to BBC News about the change saying; “They asked us to reconsider our name and see if there was something else we could use to avoid confusion, half of me thought ‘Shall we take them head-on?’ but in reality when lawyers get involved it costs a lot and we didn’t want to waste any of the charity’s money.”

Coachella is one of the biggest music and arts festivals in the world, usually held over two weekends in April. The event hosted 250,000 people last year. It is held in the desert at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. The 2020 event was originally postponed to October 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, has been cancelled altogether following orders from health officials.

The MS Trust charity is a small UK charity that supports anyone affected by multiple sclerosis, which is an incurable condition that affects the brain and spinal cord. The charity’s online festival takes place on the 22nd of August and will feature comedy and music acts as well as activities like yoga, dance and art events.

During this difficult and strange time, all of us have to seek haven in the comfort of our own homes to protect ourselves from the outbreak of coronavirus that has taken thousands of lives. A wide range of artists and organisers in the music industry has collaborated to help everyone from the lockdown misery with numerous virtual shows.

This time, iconic music venue Royal Albert Hall has come to save us from such stay-at-home humdrum with special online gigs called Royal Albert Home. The event has invited musicians across the genres to perform at their own houses for fans, with the likes of Jack Garratt, KT Tunstall, Rufus Wainwright, Ashley Henry, and many more.

The Royal Albert Home event is available to watch for free via the official site. However, the audience can donate to help the hall secure its finance during the lockdown.

Imogen Heap, a respected musician, singer/songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, is the latest artist set to perform for the charity event. She is renowned for UK smash hits “Just for Now” and “Goodnight and Go” from 2005’s ‘Speak for Yourself‘. Her latest studio album is ‘Sparks‘ released back in 2014.

Apart from her own solo projects, Heap is also known for her collaboration with mainstream pop star Taylor Swift for the track, “Clean“, from her blockbuster record ‘1989‘ and Canadian electronic producer deadmau5 for the track, “Telemiscommunications“, from ‘Album Title Goes Here‘. She also composed music for the long-standing West End play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

For her performance at Royal Albert Home, the 42-year-old legend asks fans to curate a setlist through the hall’s website. Now, the vote is closed, but check out the performance this Friday to see which songs she will play!
