The duo is formed of Chicago born Kristin Mcfadden and Louise Macphail from Bristol. The two met by chance at a song-writing course before the Covid pandemic in 2019, when Mcfadden’s study plans fell through and she found herself in the UK. From their initial meeting, they instantly clicked and decided to form their band Prima Queen.

Since their formation, the band have released several singles and their EP ‘Not The Baby’ on Bandcamp, which was then released on Spotify as a Deluxe version.

Prima Queen’s heart warming chemistry is undeniable and provides a charm to their discography which fans adore. Originally signed with Red Light Management, the record label described their music as “a secret whispered between best friends – confessional, charming, and irresistibly catchy.”. The two are now signed with Submarine Cat, home to several notable stars by the likes of American indie-pop band Swim Deep and Coventry indie band FEET. Their new label describes Prima Queen similarly, noting their magical, ethereal sound is “built not on romantic love, but something immeasurably stronger: female friendship.”. The family-friendly Brunch show was an apt environment for the band’s sugar sweet stage presence which invites you in and lets you in on their magic.

In the run-up to Prima Queen’s debut album ‘The Prize’, out on 25 April, the band have released several singles, most notably their album’s title track ‘The Prize’, which was performed on the Sunday Brunch show.

In an interview with Dork Magazine, the band explain the uplifting feel-good message of the single, stating “It’s a song to remind you that YOU’RE THE PRIZE which is easy to forget sometimes!”. Further to this, their latest single release ‘Sunshine Song’ shares a similar warm sentiment, described by the band as an “antidote to the messy thoughts in our heads”. They released the song with a montage of footage filmed on a camcorder of their song-writing process, sharing a nostalgic, cosy feel for fans.

Prima Queen will be going on an intimate in-store tour around the UK where they will perform acoustic versions of their new tracks as well as providing a signing of fan’s records.

Sex Pistols’ bassist Glen Matlock recently played an updated version of the band’s classic hit, “God Save The Green”, to coincide with King Charles III’s coronation yesterday. The song was first released in 1977 and is known for its anti-establishment lyrics and controversial message.

The London’s 100 club was the location it took place to support the release of his new album, Consequences Coming, which was released last week. In the announcement of the gig, Matlock wrote: “I wander what type of warrant I’ll get?! Come on down to the 100 club this Saturday and find out.”

Matlock’s updated version features lyrics that does not shy away from addressing contemporary issues such as climate change, Brexit, and the Black Lives Matter movement. The lyrics also showcase Matlock’s wit and humor, as he critiques the current state of politics and society.

Ahead of the show, Matlock made it clear that he will not be changing the lyrics to the band’s iconic protest anthem because he believed that it was proving tricky to make the new lines rhyme but luckily, he found a way. Matlock introduced the reworked lyriccs. He confirmed that it was for “one night only” before singing the opening line, “We’re gonna save the King/ It ain’t just old thing”. You can see the footage of him performing the updated anthem below.

Matlock spoke to Channel 4 and said that it was a “bit weird” singing “God Save The Queen” when she is “not around anymore.” He added on to say, “Instead of changing that one word [King], you’ve got to change a good few of them to make it all work. I’m just doing it one time, for a laugh, I’m not re-recording the song and putting it out, that would be a whole publishing nightmare. I’m doing it for the people out there at that moment in time and why not? It’s a laugh. I like poking fun at the establishment.”

For one night only, the Sex Pistols will play 'God Save the King' – changing the title of their punk anthem.

Bassist Glen Matlock told @krishgm it was a "bit weird" singing the original as "she's not around any more". pic.twitter.com/RX2joOMcyw

When Matlock’s thoughts were shared in regards to his opinion about the coronation via The Guardian, he admitted that, “there’s just so many people in destitution at the moment in this country.” He then adds on to say, “I think it’s kind of rubbing their noses in it a little bit. It’s all a distraction, but that’s the country we live in. Things are bleak for a lot of people and I think the royal family is pretty much the same as Love Island or The X Factor. They’re kind of the opium of the masses, just keeping people quiet. This is England and that’s the way it is, what can I do about it? I just can rail against it every now and then.”

They will share personal stories that have inspired them to express themselves through their art.
In a statement about the show, Jordan Stephens’ said: “Our intention is to shed light on mental health from the perspective of cultures not often centred in the conversation.
Auditions for the new show are set to begin next month, with the show aiming to provide a platform for new musicians to work with a variety of producers and established artists. Recruitment for these auditions has already begun.Whilst presenters and the celebrities involved are yet to be announced.

A spokesperson for Channel Four said “The songwriters each perform to a different big music star, and each will choose one song to release as their next song. Industry insiders believe this is the best show since X Factor. There’s real raw talent involved and the opportunity to launch some amazing careers. The show will put them in front of people that they’d otherwise only dream of meeting. There will also be the added entertainment of watching the songwriters negotiate with artists who are performing their songs and putting their own stamp on the tune. Producers are expecting some diva behaviour from both the potential songwriters and the stars. It’s set to be a fascinating insight into what goes on behind the scenes of putting a single together before the big release date.”

The show is a remake of an American format already broadcast on NBC. Explaining the show’s format ‘Deadline Magazine’ wrote: “In each episode five songwriters will perform their original tracks in front of three top music producers and a major recording artist on an intimate soundstage. The first episode features three-time Grammy nominee Charlie Puth as the recording artist along with a panel of producer-songwriters that includes Grammy winner Tedder, singer and Grammy-nominated songwriter Ester Dean and Grammy-winning country singer-songwriter Shane McAnally.”

“Each song’s lyrics, arrangements, beats, melody and story will be considered by the panel as producers discuss ways to creatively adapt them to better fit the style and sensibility of the recording artist of the week. After the performances, the recording artist will choose three songwriters to move forward to the studio and pair them each with the producer best suited to perfect their song. In the studio, the songs will take shape as the songwriter and producer duos work together to win over the recording artist. In the end, a winner will be chosen and their song will be recorded and released as the top artist’s next single.”

Previous music shows on Channel 4 have been met with mixed reviews, TFI Friday’s fronted by Chris Evans, had great success in the 90s, however a more recent show ‘The Singer Takes It All’ was canned after one series. However with Channel 4’s current success in diversifying it’s programme range, Songland could be the X-Factor challenger the BBC wanted The Voice to be.
