Chance The Rapper today released a new collaborative single, ‘What’s The Hook?’, with Reeseynem, a fellow member of the Chicago-based hip-hop collective Savemoney. You can stream the song on Spotify and Apple Music.

— Chance The Rapper (@chancetherapper) August 17, 2018

With production from Nate Fox and TrapMoneyBenney and an upbeat, keyboard-driven backing, the song serves as a celebration of the Chicago scene, which is known for its rich culture of collaboration and socially-charged lyricism. In the verses, Reeseynem delivers an ironic, self-referential take on the pressures of the rap business, with Chance giving some jaunty interjections at the end of each line.

Thought I got slammed what’s the hook then? (what’s the hook?)
I got out that jam what’s the hook then? (what’s the hook?)
Aw shit, aw shit, what’s the hook then (what’s the hook then?)
Thought they had me slammed
What’s the hook then? (what’s the hook?)

In his verse, Chance offers a charmingly immodest take on his gym schedule and commercial success, along with a couple of eccentric references to Batman comics.

Let me get a pass, get the-get the pass
Young boy on his path, leave it runnin’ like the bath
Workin’ on my biceps, I coulda been workin’ on my calves
Workin’ on my chest all day could’ve been workin’ on my abs
In fact, and I’m workin’ on this money
All my cousins country but they do not love the country

Chance hinted at the single earlier this week on his Instagram page. The post gives a snippet of an upcoming music video, with he and Reeseynem dancing and rapping to a crowd of admirers.

‘What’s The Hook?’ comes after Chance’s release of four new singles back in July: ‘65th & Ingleside‘, ‘Work Out‘, ‘I Might Need Security‘ and ‘Wala Cam‘. The singles were a consolation to fans after he failed to deliver his much-anticipated new album, which was due for release that month.
