After releasing a suitably emo video statement filmed in a graveyard, You Me At Six announced that the time has come for them to bid farewell to the band. However, after keeping this a secret for some time, Franceschi told BBC “I’m grateful that we’re in a position where we can celebrate, in real time, with our fans.”

Throughout their career, the “Stay With Me” singers have released 8 studio albums, 2 of which (2014’s Cavalier Youth and 2021’s SUCKAPUNCH) reaching number 1 status, toured extensively and received glowing recognition through a variety of awards. These accomplishments have not gone amiss with the band members, as frontman Franceschi told NME “The thing that mattered the most is longevity, getting closer and closer to that 20 year mark. We don’t need this band for self-indulgent reasons. We’re all really satisfied with what we’ve done, let’s just tie a nice little ribbon or bow around it. You don’t want to be the last ones hanging around at the party. We want to be a band that bowed out, not one that was kicked out.”

When asked about plans for their upcoming farewell tour, the 33-year-old stated “We’ve worked out that our final gig is going to be 20 years to the day since our first ever band practice, which is wild. It wasn’t even deliberate.” However, fans will have to be patient for any more information regarding the tour, as dates are set to be announce in “a couple of months”.

The album, which features the singles “Lived A Lie” and “Fresh Start Fever”, was released January 27, 2014 and marked the band’s first record to reach the number one spot on the UK’s official album chart.

The Surrey-based rockers, joined by fellow English alternative band Deaf Havana, will be hitting the road next February for an 8 date stint across the UK, starting in Wolverhampton.

In an Instagram post by frontman Josh Franceschi, he informed fans this tour would be the “only UK shows next year other than our appearance at Slam Dunk.” The 33 year-old also prepared fans for the shows by saying: “With Cavalier Youth turning 10 we’ll be playing a bunch of that as well as some other heat.”

You Me At Six’s latest release and eighth studio album Truth Decay, dropped on February 10, 2023, and saw the band celebrate their career as one of the UK’s biggest modern rock bands. Discussing the album, Franceschi said: “We are at our best when all five of us are on the frontline, living it and breathing it, all five of us swinging, putting our creativity into it. That’s what Truth Decay gives you.”

In other news, You Me At Six were recently announced as headliners for 2024’s Slam Dunk Festival alongside acts such as The All-American Rejects and I Prevail, with Pale Waves, Funeral For A Friend, Asking Alexandria, Waterparks, The Wonder Years and many more acts joining the lineup.

Fans who have signed up to the band’s mailing list by 6pm on Tuesday, November 28 will be eligible to get tickets in a pre-sale. The pre-sale will become available at 10am on Wednesday, November 29. It is the first new material the band have showcased since they did a song for the newest ride at Thorpe Park, The Swarm, in March of last year. Lived A Lie shows You Me At Six at their very best, with big poppy hooks and a chorus so big it’s a surprise it manages to fit in a video. The video in speaking matches the chorus however, beginning with the quintet performing in an empty warehouse before they walking as menacingly as they can down a dark street when a fire erupts behind them, burning a collection of electronic objects including a television and radio. Very rock n roll.

It has been nearly two years since You Me At Six have released an album, with 2011’s Sinners Never Sleep the most recent record to grace our stereos, bringing with it the hit singles Loverboy and Bite My Tongue, which featured the vocal talents of Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes. Having been the group’s most successful record to date, peaking at number 3 in the official album charts and selling over 150,000 copies in the UK alone, you could say there is a bit of pressure behind them to produce something special. It shouldn’t be a problem for the lads though, so expect a record full of clever lyrics and massive tunes, something we all know You Me At Six are capable of producing.

As an added treat for fans, the group will also be performing a Live Lounge for BBC Radio 1 on the 15th September, where they will be performing a few tracks from Cavalier Youth. Pretty nifty.
