DJ Carl Cox and The Prodigy have continued to blow the minds of the audiences of their high-energy UK arena tour that that launched in Glasgow last week. Cox opened for The Prodigy’s tour with a three-deck vinyl set at the Ovo Hydro arena.

The UK electronic icons came in strong for the tour’s launch, receiving a huge applause from the Scottish crowd for their long-lived classic techno sounds. The famous tracks that had the audience raving to the 1990’s classics included ‘Adrenaline Drop’ by DJ Juanito in Carl Cox’s pursuit of focusing on techno and hardcore. The Prodigy’s track list included some of the most enjoyed techno songs of the golden era, such as ‘Smack My Bitch Up’, ‘Omen’, ‘Breathe’ and ‘Out Of Space’.

This duo act, lean into the 1990’s blend of electronic distortion, punk and techno, in different ways the two artists made large impacts on the music scene then and now. They moved the scene of UK dance music from underground to mainstream culture. Cox emerged as respected figure in the house music landscape through his marathon DJ sets that helped solidify the DJ as a true performer of European dance sound, rather than a club hire.

At the same time as Cox, The Prodigy pushed the electronic scene, but harder, with a hybrid sound that fans still enjoy today. The act formed in the 90s, from the UK rave scene, mixing breakbeat sounds and punk attitude. The album ‘The Fat of the Land’ contributed to the essence of their auteurship that brought rave culture into the mainstream gaze.

After the launch in Glasgow, Carl Cox stated in an Instagram post just how lively the crowd was for the two electronic punk legends:

“Glasgow, you came in strong – the place was moving from the moment we stepped up.”

The opening has only made the tour more anticipated by those who managed to secure tickets, with the tour moving from Glasgow to Manchester, Birmingham and Cardiff. Upcoming stops on the tour include Bournemouth and Leeds, as well as, two back-to-back London shows for Friday and Saturday. The tour will then close with the final dates in Belfast and Dublin.

Speculation on social media arose with the question that asks if Cox will appear at all shows, which has since been confirmed, meaning he will perform across the rest of the tour stops.

The iconic British DJ’s upcoming album will be his first since ‘All Roads Lead To The Dancefloor,’ which was released in 2011. There has yet to be a release date or any teasers for what may be in store for the DJ’s forthcoming album. Still, it stands to reason after a career in the business spanning over 30 years and Cox being a household name in dance, that fans are in for something special.

BMG houses some of the biggest names on the dance scene, including Fat Boy Slim, Solomun, Craig David and The Prodigy. BMG wrote in a press release on Cox’ signing: “Recording is already underway as Cox works towards his debut Live show later this year….Carl joins a roster at BMG that includes The Prodigy, Solomun, Maya Jane Coles, Wilkinson, Roísín Murphy, Craig David and others. “

Cox has been busy on the scene over the past 12 months. Announcing the official release date (19 August 2021) for his autobiography ‘Oh Yes, Oh Yes!’ last March, the book is set to reveal his journey from a humble Manchester upbringing to achieving icon status. The DJ also launched a new scholarship with Waterbear, a music college in Brighton, last week. The scholarship will support one Waterbear student with equipment, up to the cost of £15,000, with the hopes of helping their journey to secure successful careers in music. Last year the DJ also revealed his partnership with Sensorium Galaxy, a social virtual-reality programme.

Boomtown Fair has confirmed Carl Cox, Amelie Lens and Four Tet as headline acts for its new post-apocalyptic themed district, Area 404. Area 404 is Boomtown’s brand new district which will host some of electronic music’s most influential figures with DJs that span the techno, house and acid scene.

Boomtown is one of the UK’s largest independent music festivals, with over 500 artists from over 80 subgenres performing across its 27 stages. Drumcode will host Area 404’s new mega stage Nucleus on Friday, August 9 and Bugged Out will host celebrations on Saturday, August 10.

This year’s festival will take place on Matterley Estate in Hampshire on August 7-11 2019. The five-day festival is known for its musical diversity, immersive theatrics and for following a themed storyline which is spread across all 14 of Boomtown’s districts.

The festival will host a multitude of genres such as reggae, punk, metal, ska, house, techno, disco, folk, acoustic, world, funk and soul, tropical, electro swing, balkan, hip hop, bassline, grime, jazz, soul, bass, electronic, hardcore tekno, gabba, breakcore, DNB, jungle and dub.

Hundreds of actors will also be implemented throughout the grounds of Matterley Estate with the aim of enhancing the customer experience of thousands of festival-goers.

A spokesperson said: “Actors bring the film-like street sets to life and alongside enjoying the extraordinary musical programme. They encourage the public to explore all the city has to offer, to become their inner character and be a part of the story themselves.”

The Hampshire-based festival will also feature 80 interactive street venues and will focus on improving its impact on the environment, having grown from 1,000 to 66,000 capacity.

A spokesperson added: “Our main priority for this year is to focus fully on what we can do within the festival and our audience reach, we have been completely rethinking the event in
every aspect to radically reduce the impact.

“For 2019 and beyond, we are putting the imminent environmental crisis front and centre of our messaging and deep into the fabric of our event planning and infrastructure.”

The festival is addressing campsite waste, transportation and fuel emissions, single-use plastic eradication and consumer behaviour.

The spokesperson added: “One of the main missions we’re on is to inspire change in ourselves and everyone in
attendance at the festival to ensure that, together, as one huge community, we can do everything in our power to halt the devastating outlook for all life on this planet. Together, we really can make the difference that is so urgently needed.”

Adult tickets are priced at £229, whilst teens can scoop them cheaper at £196.50 and children 12 and under can go for free. For more details visit https://www.boomtownfair.co.uk/

Boomtown Festival announces techno district for 2019. From ska, reggae, punk, to electro-swing, bluegrass, bass, jungle and folk, 2019 sees the welcome of techno to the popular eclectic Boomtown festival, with a huge variety of performers and DJs spread across over 100 stages. Boomtown boasts to be unlike anything you have ever experienced at any other UK festival.

The Boomtown Festival runs for four days at the Matterly Estate in Hampshire from the 7th to the 12th of August, has announced a new techno district. Boomtown is made up of 14 different districts that aim to follow a storyline that has been evolving over the past 10 years. The organisers hope to create a totally unique experience, bringing in hundreds of actors to bring their film-like sets to life. Each year Boomtown has a new chapter, and 2019 will be called Chapter 11: A Radical City. There is an ongoing story line, which festival goers are encouraged to take part in and get involved with a theatrical style experience.

The festival has been running now since 2009, combining music with theatre, and interactive sets. Area 404, one of the fourteen districts, will welcome headliners Four Tets, Carl Cox and Amelie Lens to the new nucleus stage. Welcoming for the first time techno, at the festival. Bugged Out will headline on Friday, with Carl Cox taking centre stage on Saturday, followed by Drumcode on Sunday. Other acts announced include Eats Everything, Claude Vonstroke, Dense & Pika, Sama’, Enrico Sangiuliano and Skream. Social media comments have been positive, showing that the line-up choices have been popular among fans of the independent festival.

The festival’s main stage, known as the Town Centre, is said to be the most extravagant stage setup of all the UK festivals, with exciting visual displays, pyrotechnics and dazzling performances. The festival has four main areas: Hilltop, Downtown, Whistlers Green and Temple Valley. Across the four areas the 14 smaller districts are formed around a unique theatrical identity.

2019’s overall lineup is yet to be announced, but looking at the 2018 acts there is a lot to be excited about. This year acts were varied, with performances from artists such as the Gorillaz, Jimmy Cliff, Purple Disco Machine, Level2, Spice, Morcheeba, Limp Bizkit, Shy FX, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, and hundreds more, 2019 is unlikely to be anything less than eclectic and exciting.

The new nucleus stage is presumed to be replacing the fallen Bang Hai Towers. In line with the Boomtown sustainability ethos, the nucleus stage is likely to be built using and recycling the rubble of the old frame of Bang Hai Towers.

Boomtown organisers are fierce about protecting the environment, asking festival goers to “respect yourself, respect each other and respect your city”. The Boomtown respect yourself campaign has been hugely popular. As the festival is held within the South Downs National park, everybody in attendance is asked to use public transport, to take their tents home, and recycle any rubbish. This breeds a sense of conscientious party going, which is vital in the festivals future of being sustainable.

The remaining acts will be announced starting from the 8th of February 2019. To purchase your tickets please visit Boomtown Festival
