Renowned pop singer Gerard Hugh “Leo” Sayer has been hospitalised for several weeks due to a sudden illness. The 75-year-old icon, known for his chart-topping hits such as “When I Need You,” expressed his regret to fans that he was unable to travel from his Australian residence to the UK due to unforeseen health issues.

Leo Sayer, who was born in Shoreham-by-Sea near Brighton and Hove, England, gained popularity during the 1970s and early 1980s, spending a total of 151 weeks on the UK Singles Chart. His first seven hit singles in the UK all reached the Top 10, cementing his success in the music industry.

In a recent Facebook post, Leo provided an update on his health, revealing that he was still receiving treatment in an Australian hospital for kidney, bladder, and prostate complications. Despite not having shared his condition publicly before, Leo expressed his gratitude for the support and well wishes he has received from his fans during this difficult time.

He said “I’m so sorry to have disappointed my fans but these things can happen to us 75 year olds! I’m still in hospital now but well on the mend. I will take a necessary short break from activities and be back fighting fit for shows in 2024. – particularly my UK and Ireland tour next autumn. Thank you everyone for all your concerns and good wishes…”

Leo’s fans took to Facebook to comment on his post sending their well wishes. One fan had this to say,“Take care & take your time to get really well and strong again to rock the stages…. Best wishes.” and another said, “Wishing you a speedy and full recovery Leo. Looking forward to your next UK tour whenever that takes place.”

His last significant success came in 2006, when DJ Meck remixed his timeless track “Thunder In My Heart”, propelling it to the top of the UK charts

but Sayer remained in the limelight when in 2007, his appearance on Celebrity Big Brother garnered a new generation of fans, as he became part of one of the most memorable moments in the show’s history. This occurred when Channel 4 declined to provide him with clean underwear.

Sayer’s latest album, Selfie, was released in 2019, recorded in the peaceful surroundings of his Queensland home with his wife, Donatella Piccinetti.

Leo is yet to confirm when he will be back on the road, along with new tour dates for 2024.

Sam Fender has cancelled his remaining 2022 US tour dates to look after his mental health. Fender was set to perform in Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver later this month, along with supporting Florence And The Machine at New York City’s Madison Square Garden and a festival set at Las Vegas’ Life Is Beautiful. Below is his statement in full.

He wrote on his Instagram page “It seems completely hypocritical of me to advocate discussion on mental health and write songs about it if I don’t take the time to look after my own mental health, I’ve neglected myself for over a year now and haven’t dealt with things that have deeply affected me. It’s impossible to do this work on myself while on the road, and it’s exhausting feigning happiness and wellness for the sake of business.”

He then continued to say that he was “eternally overwhelmed by the love and support of our fans and hate to let you down, but the state of my wellbeing is starting to affect everything I do, including my performances [and] I refuse to go out there and not give it my all EVERY time, as you all deserve nothing less.” You can view the post below.

Fender has always advocated for mental health awareness in his music. He also spoke to NME in 2018 about the mental health struggles tackled in his single, “Dead Boys”. He stated “I remember specifically for me as a kid growing up or as a young teenager if I ever cried or got upset in front of anybody, I would be so humiliated,” he said. “I’d be so angry with myself for being upset and then it would just become this catch 22 situation.”

The musician then added “It’s that attitude that stops men from talking and stops men from being like able to turn to each other. Me and my mates are very, very close. We all talk about our problems – especially as we’ve got older. But I don’t think a lot of people have that. Men just need to be open and not emasculate one another.”

As well as the US shows, the Geordie musician said that UK record store dates will be cancelled for the time being, but that “hopefully we can work something out for those ticket holders, you’ll hear from us soon.”

Fender said he will “come back stronger” and mentioned his excitement for the Australian leg of his tour in late November, as well as the St James’ Park shows he’s set to play in 2023. The details and tickets for those dates can be found, here. He also recently announced details of his Live From Finsbury Park album, which will be released on December 9.

Bad Religion was formed by Greg Graffin, along with guitarist Brett Gurewitz and bassist Jay Bentley in high school in the Los Angeles suburbs in 1980 and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2020. They are regarded as one of the most influential and important bands on the West Coast punk rock scene.

Armed with ferocious guitars, pounding drum beats, insightful lyrics, and an unwavering desire to inspire and disturb anybody who will listen, Bad Religion has continuously pushed social limits and questioned authority and beliefs. The Band’s first major label release, Stranger Than Fiction, included some of the band’s most famous songs, such as the title track, “Stranger Than Fiction”, “Infected”, and “21st Century Digital Boy”.

Age Of Unreason, the group’s 17th studio album, was released in 2019. With tracks addressing various socio-political ills, including conspiracy theories, racist demonstrations, Trump’s election, the erosion of the middle class, and alternative truths.

The critically praised album presents a fierce and highly pertinent musical response to the times. Hard rapid beats, juicy hooks, and spirited choruses are a part of the band’s recognisable and influential sound. Yet, every new song still stands out because it uses composition, melody, and lyrics to tell a particular story that aligns with the band’s long-standing humanist viewpoint.

In December 2020, the band marked its 40 years of recording and performing music with Decades, an event at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood, California, that the band streamed live in four instalments. The celebratory episodes featured live performance footage, interviews, and a sneak peek at their rehearsals for the anniversary show.

The band released their official biography, Do What You Want: The Story Of Bad Religion, in August 2020. The irreverent musical memoir stories their beginnings as teenagers growing up in the San Fernando Valley experimenting in their garage, they nicknamed “The Hell Hole” to the worldwide punk rock phenomenon they became.

Joining Graffin, Gurewitz and Bentley in this incarnation of Bad Religion are Brian Baker (one of the founding members of hardcore punk legends Minor Threat) and Mike Dimkich on guitars and Jamie Miller on drums.

The shortlist of contestants belong to a boy band, a girl band, an instrumental band, a mixed group, a girl dance group and an R&B group who were set to compete for the space on their tour.

In a statement released on the show’s Twitter account, the programme have stated, “We can confirm that a small number of people on the Little Mix The Search production have tested positive for coronavirus and they are now self-isolating following the latest government guidelines.”

Chris Ramsey, Strictly Come Dancing semi-finalist is due to present the ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition with Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards, Leigh Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Jesy Nelson on the judges’ panel. The Mirror Newspaper reported Perrie, 27 commenting about her experiences on auditioning on the X Factor show,

“My very first ever audition was to be in this band. Oh, the nerves. All those feelings come flooding back when I see somebody just so passionate about something. It’s their chance to change their lives.” She commented further “I was 16 when I first auditioned, and my mouth was quivering. “I was that nervous, and I didn’t have as much confidence as you. Not even half of the amount of confidence.” Jade added, “I remember when I auditioned my legs were like jelly, I was shaking so much. I was never, ever going to give up on my dream. I would have been turning up till I was an old woman, till I made it.”

Fans have showed their disappointment responding to the statement on the show’s twitter page in hearing news of the show’s postponement. One fan stated, “I’m gutted it’s postponed but at the end of the day everyone health & safety is the priority. I’m looking forward to seeing the live shows, whenever that will be.” Another commented, “I hope everyone is safe and takes good care of themselves. their health is of outmost importance so please take all the time needed before resuming production”

Although broadcasters are trying to maintain safe regulations to prevent outbreaks of Covid-19, It’s hard to control actions from the production outside of filming. Further preparation and development will need to be made within the industry to ensure a safer working environment. On Tuesday, ‘Britains Got Talent’ reported that three production staff had been infected with coronavirus, subsequently having to postpone the Christmas special show.

A Day To Remember’s UK shows have been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The American pop punk band was supposed to fly over for a pair of shows at both Slam Dunk festival sites in Leeds and Hatfield, followed by shows in Glasgow, Cardiff and Nottingham. After the coronavirus outbreak forced artists all around the globe to postpone entire tours, the band rescheduled their UK and Europe shows with new dates yet to be announced. But yesterday a statement on the bands’ social media platforms announced that the UK shows would not be played at some point later on but will instead not take place at all.

“Due to the ongoing uncertainty of when events may happen, our Leeds, Hatfield, Nottingham & Cardiff shows have been cancelled & ticket holders will receive an automatic refund”, the statement reads. However, the band still seems to plan to reschedule the European shows, as the statement announces: “We’re still working hard to reschedule the rest of the dates and tickets will still be honored when that happens. If you have any questions about your tickets or refunds, please contact your point of purchase.”

We're still working hard to reschedule the rest of the dates and tickets will still be honored when that happens. If you have any questions about your tickets or refunds, please contact your point of purchase.

The ongoing pandemic has not only interrupted A Day To Remember’s touring plans, it has also put a hold on releasing their upcoming album. Speaking to NME earlier this month, frontman Jeremy McKinnon revealed that the release day is still uncertain due to the current situation.“It’s still up in the air, everyone obviously wants it to come out as soon as possible but we’re going with the flow here. We’ve almost got all the masters in, I’m expecting them any time now. We’re still trying to get our artwork done”, he told the magazine. The singer is aware that “that’s been annoying fans, but we have such a thing going. Every ADTR record has had these cool silhouettes that are unique to them and then, just because we were lazy and didn’t like people yelling at us, we just didn’t do it for ‘You’re Welcome’ yet.” According to McKinnon, about 30 or 40 songs have been demoed for the newest album.

And who knows, maybe this collection of new songs will make up for the cancelled shows, though it is a shame that we won’t have the chance to experience those new songs live (yet).
