A 300 capacity venue in Camden London is due to open this summer from the team behind the Electric Ballroom rock nightclub, turned indoor market situated on Camden High Street. The new venue will open its doors on July 4th. ‘Camden Courtyard’ will be an open-air venue directly behind Electric Ballroom, providing a more intimate space than it’s predecessor where Londoners can drink, dance and dine to the top DJs in the business. Camden itself offers little in the area of outdoor nightlife so this venue is a step in the right direction, especially as the UK begins to warm up.

As for the music, Camden Courtyard will sport a high-spec Martin Audio sound system to blare out a “carefully curated” mix of live performances from those such as Midnight Runners, Colorize, UKG Brunch, FreeFromSleep, and Ketoloco who are all confirmed to play sets at the venue.

The space has been designed by Fables Creative, the minds behind concepts and festivals such as Boomtown and Waterworks. Fables Creative have worked with brands like Barbie, Pokemon, Jaded London, Redbull, Coca-cola and many more. You can view the full list of their projects on their website or check out their Instagram @fables_creative for updates on their work.

Speaking of the new space, the owner of the both Camden Countyard and Electric ballroom – Kate Fuller noted that ‘for the best part of a century, Electric Ballroom has been a venue which showcases the most exciting of musical movements and Camden Courtyard is the next step in our story,’. Electric Ballroom began as an Irish Dance hall in the 30s and then transformed into a what we see today in summer 1978. Kate is the daughter of the previous owner, Bill Fuller. During it’s life, the iconic venue has provided London with a legion of top-tier acts such as The Vaccines, Cage the Elephant, Of Monsters and Men, Snow Patrol, The Killers, Stereophonics, Sir Paul McCartney, The Smiths, Madness, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and countless more notable artists and bands. It is no doubt that the new Camden Courtyard will yield the same atmosphere of talent and buzz. Read more of Kate Fullers statement on the venue from NME here.

The venue is set to open from 4-11pm on Thursdays and Fridays as well as opening a little earlier on the weekends; from 12pm. Camden Courtyard will host themed, boozy brunches for those who always enjoy a (late) morning debrief of the night before with their pals as well as street food during the day. Camden Courtyard’s, currently sparse Instagram page will provide more information in the run up to the preliminary launch including updates on events and acts confirmed to take on the venue. You can follow the link here to see it for yourself.

London-based record label PC Music is finally planning a follow-up to their 2016 ‘Vol. 2’ compilation album, this time packed with recent artists such as Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek. Having a planned release date of May 13th, it will also feature the likes of US singer-songwriter Clairo and producer A.G. Cook on its mix. The tracklist can be seen at the end of this article, with a bit of mystery thrown in over three songs that remain unidentified as of now.

However, that’s not all. The label will also be hosting a showcase of their artists at the soon-to-be-reopened KOKO venue in London, Camden High Street. It’s been a tough time for KOKO as of recent, what with fires, water damage and pandemics helping keep it closed since 2019 and costing £70 million to fix up. But it should be in tip-top shape as of this April when the place is finally set to reopen.

And after all that effort, I think they deserve a bit of music. The PC Music showcase will reportedly be “the label’s biggest flagship event to date“, and is set to take place the month after their ‘vol.3’ compilation is released (on June 15th). And that’s not the only thing KOKO has to look forward to. Artists such as Pete Doherty, Remi Wolf, Jorja Smith and many others are also set to play at the newly refurbished venue. If you want to see more details about what’s happening at KOKO, you can look here.

PC Music has been keeping itself busy recently aside from compilation-business. A number of recent releases include Caroline Polachek’s recent single “Billions“, which was released last February. Hyd’s self-titled EP is another thing fans of the label should probably look out for. And then there’s Charli XCX, whose run of singles lately is sure to excite fans everywhere in wait for her upcoming album, Crash, which is due out on March 18th. If you want to read more about some of her recent releases, you can look here and here.
