Announced as the headline acts for this year’s event include Sam Fender, Gerry Cinnamon and Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy. Kennedy will headline the festival with its first day on Friday, along with Blossoms and British rapper Bugzy Malone. Cinnamon will headline on Saturday after performances from Tom Walker and ‘Naïve’ singers The Kooks. The festival’s final day will be closed by headliner Fender, Sunday also includes sets by Fontaines D.C. and Manchester rockers Pale Waves. Other acts to perform include singer Mahalia, Irish rock band Inhaler, Circa Waves, Nadine Shah and 2020’s one to watch act Billy Nomates. Dermot Kennedy also took to Twitter to announce his headline performance as well as express his excitement for his set.

The festival was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and has changed promoters since allegations of staff mistreatment. The festival was previously promoted by SSD Concerts who were involved in the claims made public on the company review site Glassdoor after their Instagram account was allegedly hacked, the claims stated that SSD Concerts were underpaying staff and making employees feel uncomfortable at their workplace. The festival is now promoted by one of the largest event promoters within the UK, Kilimanjaro Live.

CEO of Kilimanjaro Live, Stuart Galbraith had this to say about the return of This is Tomorrow.

“The pandemic has caused huge challenges for the live industry in 2020 and 2021 and when the opportunity came up for us to get involved with This Is Tomorrow it was a complete no brainer and a very easy decision for us to make, It’s a brilliant festival with huge potential in an area which has been traditionally over-looked as a music market. We’re delighted to be able to get this back in the diary and hope to see everyone in September for what promises to be one hell of a party.’’

The festival will also be putting on a free festival for NHS key workers as a thank you for their hard work throughout the COVID pandemic. The free festival will take place on the bank holiday Monday May 31st 2021 and will be held in Exhibition Park, headliners include Sam Fender, Gerry Cinnamon and celebrated British rockers Royal Blood. The one-off event will raise money for Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust, Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust and The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

At the time of the accident he wrote on social media; “They tell me I’m lucky to be alive but although I sustained serious injuries at the time I lost consciousness so I don’t remember much, what I do remember is the non-stop love.” The song talks openly about bleeding out and potentially dying from injuries he had inflicted.

The song was also accompanied with an intense music video, directed by Myles Whittingham, shows the story of a tough boxing match. However, even though there is so much anguish in the video, there are also constant themes of love and support from the side of the ring, a perfect symbolism of the support Bugzy felt from his friends, loved one and fans throughout the accident.

Dermot Kennedy, who featured on the song, shared his pleasure and admiration of being a part of the project, taking to Instagram to say; “So inspired by your resilience and passion, thank you so much for having me on this one.” Bugzy replied to the post saying; “Thank you my brother, an honour to have you on the project!” followed by a love heart emoji.

This also comes following the news that Bugzy’s album The Resurrection will be out on January 22nd 2021. The album will feature Don’t Cry along with previously released singles M.E.N III and Doe’d Up.

It is his first release since the crash, which meant that he billed the track as his ‘resurrection‘.The instrumental is gritty. A grime emcee by nature, it fits in with Bugzy’s defiant flow.

There is a visual accompaniment to the release. The clip includes pictures of the accident and of the artist in hospital, to emphasise the situation’s gravity. It also includes shots of Bugzy rapping in a dark room, filled by a single light. It appears to signify ‘the light at the end of the tunnel‘, and visualises the rapper’s close relationship with death.

From the minute I woke up on the hospital bed with nurses trying to explain to me that I had bleeding on the brain an all that, I knew deep down I would live to fight another day, I’ve survived through too much in life to just go out like that. I know alot of you have been worried about me and your messages of support have been a crucial part of me healing and feeling loved and I appreciate every single one of you for that, but the truth is 3 weeks after the accident I had a blood clot pass through my heart and from what doctors and nurses tell me not many people survive that. Bugzy Malone based his career on intimate stories, recited through his lyircs. ‘M.E.N’ is an anagram for the publication ‘Manchester Evening News‘. His first single released under this title addressed an altercation outside a nightclub, and his time in jail. The second, ‘M.E.N II‘, was directed at his struggles with fame.

Bugzy deals with his pain through music, and the new single reflects the toughest period in his life. Raw and defiant, ‘M.E.N III‘ is the sound of a man on a comeback trail.

Since the accident, Davis has broken his silence for the first time by sharing images of his injuries and the extensive damage to his quad bike. The rapper, who is best known for his 2017 EP King of The North, shared the CCTV clip of himself colliding with a car before flying off the quad bike and landing on the pavement.

The news of accident was confirmed with a post on the official Instagram story of his clothing brand B.Malone. The statement said: “We can confirm that the artist and musician, Aaron Davis (professionally known as Bugzy Malone) was involved in a serious traffic accident yesterday evening.

“He was seriously injured but is in a stable condition. He remains in hospital while his condition is being monitored and assessed. We thank everyone for their support and messages. We ask that everyone please respect Aaron and his family’s privacy at this difficult time.”

The 29-year-old rapper, whose real name is Aaron Davis, was riding a quad bike through the streets of Bury, Greater Manchester, when the bike smashed into the side of an Audi. Videos taken of the horror crash showed Davis lying on the kerb with blood pouring from his face – with one clip showing him being surrounded by debris from the crash.

In the wake of the initial crash, Davis received messages of support from the likes of KSI, Lethal Bizzle and Krept. However, he has also come under fire from others, who have questioned why he was riding his bike in the middle of a lockdown as the UK continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

Many of the acts playing at Wonderwood have played for the crowds at BassJam and PeirJam, so playing a new location will be something different for these artists. The crowds at Wonderwood can trust the organisers to put on a sell-out event. With BassJam heading into its third year at the Victoria Warehouse and Peirjam heading into its fifth year of standout events on Blackpool Peir. This show is sure to be a sell out.

Guests will have the options of three stages that will have different musical vibes and a wide range of visuals. At the festival there will also be a food village with an array of global cuisines as well as interactive and immersive entertainment that will ensure an unforgettable experience. The VIP experience will be accompanied by luxury toilets, VIP food and a pamper zone where you can relax and chill.

At Wonderwood there will be a wide range of artists such as the grime king Bugzye Malone, with hits that have topped the charts such as ‘Clash of the Titans’ and ‘Run’. House royalty Gorgon City, the English electronic duo from North London will also be their huge hits such as ‘Ready for your love’ and ‘Kingdom’. They will be joined with other huge artist who are looking to make their mark on Wonderwood.

These are the first wave of acts that have been announced in phase one and there will be sure to be more huge names on phase two. This will be the chance to experience a mainstream festival in 2019 but in a completely different location, and natural wonderment you can only find in the forest.
