Spanish superstar Rosalîa Tobella, best known as, Rosalîa brought her atypical fourth studio record. ‘LUX’ to the stage at the BRIT Awards on Saturday. Making for an original breathtaking display of talent. The orchestrated performance set the stage for Björk’s incredible return, making for the Icelandic singer-songwriters first performance in 3 years.

Rosalîa delivered a dramatic performance of her show-stopping single, ‘Berghain’ to a packed CO-OP Live Arena, this performance marks the very first time the song has been performed live, notably by both collaborators, it has undoubtedly set the standards high for future performances. A celebration of international artists in of itself, the performance is guaranteed to move anyone who watches it, if you haven’t watched it already its well worth your time.

Taking the breath of each attendee, Rosalîa was donned in a magnificent white dress singing alongside a supporting background of singers. The first half of the song highlighted the vocal abilities of the spanish singer-songwriter, homing in on the operatic elements of the song. The crowded stage of singers parted to reveal Bjork in cathartic blue attire, performing her section of ‘Berghain’ in the latter part of the song. Finalising the magnificent performance the crew of signers and dancers erupted into movement alongside both female vocalists displaying a pure celebration of joy and an international win.

The performance came in support of Rosalîa’s latest body of work, ‘LUX.’ The record released on November 7, 2025, featuring the London Symphony Orchestra blends pop with wondrous classical elements, exploring heavy themes of transformation and spirituality. The record features generationally beautiful collaborations from Bjork, Pharrell Wlliams, Estelle Morenta and Caroline Shaw. Littered with songs inspired by a variety of female saints and Rosalîa’s own relationship with God, it is an incredible deep dive into the psyche of said artist. The lead single, ‘Berghain’ received unanimous acclaim from multiple music critics citing its ambition and aromas use of orchestral sound. ‘Lux’ later became the second best-reviewed album of 2025 on Metacritic as well as being the website eighteenth best album of all time despite its recent release.

Winning her first BRIT award for international artist, Rosalia made history as the first spanish speaking act to take the award home. A presence of royalty in a room full of artists, there is not doubt we will be receiving more incredible bodies of work from Rosalîa in the near future.

Throughout the night, the BRITS also saw performances from Harry Styles, Olivia Dean, Alex Warren, Sombr and Mark Ronson. Rosalîa has far more tricks up of her sleeve in the wake of her worldwide fourth tour.

In support of ‘LUX,’ Rosalia announced she would embark on an arena world tour beginning in March of this year and finalising in September. 42 shows are currently scheduled across seventeen countries in Europe, North America and South America so make sure you catch her at one of the dates if you liked what you saw on display at the BRITS. Rosalîa is a spell bounding example of why it’s so important to highlight international voices not only in the BRITS but in the music scene all together.

Ronson’s DNA can be found across much of the most popular music of the last 20 years, be it his song-writing, his multi-instrumentalist performances, or his production that has earned him a hoard of prizes from the industry. He’s won 10 Grammy awards, including Best Album with Amy Winehouse’s 2006 classic ‘Back To Black’, as well as Record of the Year for both Winehouse’s 2006 ‘Rehab’ and for his own 2014 release ‘Uptown Funk’ featuring Bruno Mars. His work on film soundtracks have also received accolades from the movie business – ‘Shallow’ from A Star Is Born won Best Original Song categories at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes in 2018, and his score for Greta Gerwig’s 2023 Barbie flick received several considerations.

Prior to this weekend, he’d won twice at the BRIT Awards, first as Male Solo Artist of the Year in 2008, and again for British Single of the Year with ‘Uptown Funk’ in 2015. For this year’s blockbuster gala at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena, Ronson was presented his Outstanding Contribution to Music Award by grime star Skepta, following a short clip from other musical greats singing his praises.
In his acceptance speech, he placed particular emphasis on how his work with the late Amy Winehouse, who tragically died in 2011, was instrumental in shaping his career, having had his first major hit as lead artist with their cover of The Zutons’ ‘Valerie’ in 2007. ‘Back To Black’ and its sombre title track written by the pair celebrate their 20th anniversary this year, and Ronson recounts the first time she came to his New York studio on the 6th of March 2006. “We went upstairs and we talked for four hours, and that night we wrote ‘Back To Black’ and that day changed my life forever”. Speaking on the endless list of famous artists he’s gone on to work with since, he says “I know the music I made with Amy is the reason that any of them know who I am anyway.”

Following the presentation, he took to the stage again shortly afterwards for a performance of his biggest tracks backed by a live band. Ronson opened the set at the DJ decks, mixing while Ghostface Killah rapped their 2003 hit ‘Ooh Wee’, before leading into a spoken-word interlude of Winehouse talking about her work with him. From there he moves into ‘Back To Black’ playing a piano with a TV atop showing Winehouse’s music videos, and a rousing rendition of ‘Valerie’. With the brass band members fully warmed up, Ronson moved over to electric guitar as they broke into ‘Uptown Funk’, finishing as Dua Lipa descended to the stage on a gigantic disco ball. She went through ‘Dance The Night’ which earned the pair a Golden Globe nomination via the Barbie soundtrack, and their 2020 hit ‘Electricity’.

The 46th annual BRIT Awards was a spectacular occasion start to finish, packed with glitz, glamour, and a bucketful of drama. The full event is available on-demand from ITVX, as well as highlights of the evening uploaded to the BRITs official Youtube channel.

Singer-songwriter Sombr was joined by an intruder during his performance at the 46th Annual Brit Awards on Saturday February 28th. The 20 year-old who was nominated for two awards on the night, took to the stage to perform singles ‘Undressed’ and ‘Back To Friends’. Dawning in a matching pink suit, Sombr was interrupted mid-performance, being pushed off his platform by what seemed initially seemed to be attacker. The man was quickly removed from the stage by security before Sombr continued. It was later revealed by Sombr’s representatives, that it was infact staged.

The man was dressed in a t-shirt, printed with the words ‘SOMBR IS A HOMEWRECKER’, in reference to his upcoming single in the lead up to his new album. ‘Homewrecker’ is Sombr’s first single since the release of his debut album ‘I Barely Know Her’ in August 2025. The indie pop album with themes of heartbreak and reflection, features the aforementioned singles ‘Back To Friends’ and ‘Undressed’, as well as ‘We Never Dated’ and ’12 to 12’.

Later on Instagram, the New York born singer joked about the moment, quelling worries for his safety, captioning the post ‘he should’ve pushed me harder’. He then went on to promote the shirt that the intruder wore, now available as part of his merchandise.

Otherwise, at the Brits, Sombr was nominated for International Song of the Year for his breakout ‘Undressed’. The song released in March 2025 has since been certified platinum in Australia, The UK, and the US following virality on TikTok. He lost out on the award to Rosé and Bruno Mars for ‘APT’.

The 2026 Brit Awards took place at the Co-op Live in Manchester, deviating from London for the first time in the show’s history. The award show also featured performances from Harry Styles, Olivia Dean, and Rosalía, the latter of whom beat out Sombr for the award for International Artist of the Year. He was also up against Bad Bunny, Doechii and Taylor Swift for the honour.

Born Shane Michael Boose, Sombr is currently on tour for ‘I Barely Know Her’ visiting Europe, North America and Australia. The tour has been inundated with guests with Anna Leah, Blu De Tiger and Devon Gabriella performing as openers, with special guests also including Laufey, Sam Smith and Foster the People. The tour which began in May 2025 in Dublin will end following his debut appearance at this year’s Coachella on April 11th and April 18th with headliners; Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, and Karol G.

This success follows a year of hardship for Young who encountered a myriad of problems during performances, including personal and emotional issues as well as technical difficulties in 2025. At the All Things Go Festival in September 2025, Young collapsed on stage and subsequently cancelled her upcoming tour dates in order to prioritise her health. She seems to be on the road to recovery, performing at the Grammy Awards earlier this year.

Ahead of the ceremony, Young was tied for most nominations at this year’s Brits with Olivia Dean, however Dean went on to win four out of the five that the pair were up for, including Pop Act, British Artist, Album of the Year and Song of the Year for ‘The Act of Loving’ and ‘Rein Me In’, her collaboration with Sam Fender respectively.

Young was signed to Island Records in March 2021 and released her debut album ‘My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely’ in May 2023. The singer-songwriter released her sophomore album ‘This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway’ followed in June 2024 and her most recent album ‘I’m Only F**king Myself’ was released in September 2025 and reached number three on the UK Albums Chart.

Her breakout single ‘Messy’ was met by critical acclaim but took eight months to reach number one in the UK. With ‘Messy’, Young took home the Grammy Award earlier this year for Best Pop Solo Performance. Following her win last night, fans took to twitter to celebrate Young’s wins.

The 46th edition of the Brit Awards took place at the Co-op live in Manchester, away from London from the first time in the show’s history. Hosted by Jack Whitehall, the ceremony saw performances from Harry Styles, Rosalia, Raye and Sombr amongst others. Mark Ronson was recognised for his Outstanding Contribution for Music, Noel Gallagher as Songwriter of the Year and PinkPantheress and Producer of the Year.

Other winners include Sam Fender winning his fifth Brit award in total, his third for Best Alternative/Rock Act and his first for Song of The Year shared with Dean. Dave won Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap Act following the release of ‘The Boy Who Played The Harp’ and Wolf Alice for British Group.

The ceremony also included the award of the Lifetime Achievement award to the late Ozzy Osbourne which was received by his wife and daughter Sharon and Kelly Osbourne.

This year marks the first time that the ceremony has been held outside London in its 48-year history. The BRITs, organised by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), is the biggest event in the British music calendar, a party rife with live performances, drama, and most importantly the coveted awards.

The categories on offer range from best acts within various genres, best song, best album, and the pinnacle – Artist of the Year. In addition, while the spotlight is mainly on British talent, they offer accolades for international acts. Last year’s ceremony saw performances from Sam Fender, Teddy Swims and Sabrina Carpenter. Charli XCX took a clean sweep of the top three awards, claiming British Album, Single and Artist of the Year titles with her summer-sensation album ‘BRAT’.

For this year’s batch of nominees, there are a few familiar faces, mixed with an overwhelming number of new ones. For the sound of 2025, two names are synonymous with it – Olivia Dean and Lola Young. The pair are both nominated for best artist and single honours among others, with Dean having an album nomination for ‘The Art Of Loving’, and an extra song nomination for her contribution to Sam Fender’s hit ‘Rein Me In’, while Young is competing for the best breakthrough and rock/alternative brackets. Both artists attended the BRIT school, an institution for the creative arts with no attendance fees.

Sam Fender himself is up for four categories, with high odds on for best album following his achievement of the Mercury Prize for 2025 album ‘People Watching’. Another of last year’s triumphs was the dramatic return of Lily Allen, whose empowered release ‘West End Girl’ has earned her three nominations.

The statement from the BRITs also highlighted a few of the curveballs in this years awards, namely the two tracks that kicked off cultural obsessions from film, now receiving recognition in the Best Song categories. ‘Defying Gravity’ performed by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, was the standout song from the Hollywood adaptation of The Wizard Of Oz stage-show ‘Wicked’, which released in 2024. Running for the International Song Of The Year is ‘Golden’, taken from the Netflix animation ‘KPop Demon Hunters’, which was a pop-culture phenomenon for all of last year.

Other notable cameos in the list include Turnstile and Geese picking up debut nominations under international group, Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’ aiming for best international song six years after its original release, and Jarvis Cocker’s band Pulp receiving their first nomination since 1996. This year’s roster is also the most progressive one since the BRITs began. Their announcement claims “Nearly 70% (69.2%) of the nominations feature women and non-binary people combined as solo artists or in mixed gender groups. This is the highest representation of women and non-binary people yet.”

Several of the UK’s top artists came together at last weekend’s BRIT Awards to protest the government’s proposed changes to AI and copyright laws. Artists including Myles Smith, Lola Young, FLO, The Last Dinner Party, and Rachel Chinouriri joined a growing movement urging the UK government to safeguard copyright protections. They stood alongside music icons such as Paul McCartney, Elton John, Dua Lipa, Sam Fender, and Kate Bush in calling for stronger support for creators’ rights.

Artists like Paloma Faith have spoken out against Artificial Intelligence on red carpet:

The Don’t Let AI Steal Our Music campaign, launched by BPI, builds on the earlier Make It Fair initiative, which gained widespread support across the UK’s creative industries when it debuted in the media on February 25. The movement also follows the release of Is This What We Want?, a silent album featuring the backing of over 1,000 musicians as a form of protest against the government’s proposals.

In a collective effort artists including Kate Bush, Damon Albarn, and Cat Stevens, released the silent album which features recordings of empty studios and performance spaces, symbolizing the potential impact on artists’ livelihoods. In addition, a new website, dontletaistealourmusic.com, has been launched to provide more details on the campaign and its objectives.

The UK government is considering changes to copyright law that would allow global AI companies to train generative AI models using the country’s music, books, films, and other creative works—without requiring permission or compensation for creators and rights-holders.

While the proposals suggest that creators could theoretically ‘opt out’ of having their work used for AI training, experiences in other markets have shown that such opt-out systems are ineffective and fail to prevent misuse or unauthorised exploitation. Copyright law exists to protect original works of authorship, ensuring they cannot be copied, distributed, or performed without the explicit permission of the copyright holder.

Dr Jo Twist OBE, CEO of the BPI, said: “This campaign’s message to the Government is clear: don’t let AI steal our music. Thousands of Britain’s most beloved artists and creators have already spoken out against the proposed weakening of copyright law, which would have a devastating impact on the UK’s world-leading creative industries. We greatly value the artists and students who added their powerful voices to the campaign over the weekend. They represent the incredible human creativity that exists all across the UK and is so vital to protect.”

In response to the backlash, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer emphasized the importance of the creative industries and assured that no final decision has been made regarding the copyright reforms. He stated that the consultation period has concluded, and the feedback will be reviewed to balance the interests of AI advancement and creator rights

The UK’s very own Official Charts have released a list of what they think will be topping charts in the upcoming year. The list includes Lola Young, Addison Rae and Myles Smith. With the arrival of the new year, new artists to watch also arrive. Artists that maybe have had one or two songs going viral on TikTok in the past year, who had their first single charting in the UK’s top ten, or new bands that have released their debut albums and booked a few festival slots.

@lolayoungggft my mums v clean room

One thing about music, is that it will always have new faces and voices; specifically in the UK, there are many awards and prizes reserved for these new artists that begin to make their way in the hearts and charts of the UK: BBC’s Sound of… Award, the BRITs’ “New Rising Star” category. With British artists like Adele and Sam Fender winning these in previous years, and international stars like Chappell Roan being nominated, UK awards for emerging artists are always spot on to anticipate which new artist will achieve greatness.

Lola Young is an artist from London who has had a very exciting last few weeks: her latest single titled “Messy” has granted her a commercial breakout that her career had long been awaiting after going super-viral on TikTok. It reached position number seven on UK charts over the December period, where usually it is less likely that new artists climb charts since these are mostly taken by Christmas songs. But Lola Young did it, and the single originally released in May and part of her second studio album “This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway” became a radio hit after a quick climb on charts that begun in late November. The music video currently counts over five million views, and it is clear that 2025 will be a big year for Young

Addison Rae is next on the list, after her single “Diet Pepsi” has convinced the world that she is in fact meant to be a pop star. Rae’s beginnings in the music industry were arguably underwhelming, as the artist was overshadowed by her TikTok persona and the public did not believe much in her possibilities. While her first singles, “I Got It Bad” and “Obsessed” failed to chart in the UK’s top 100, everything changed after the release of “Diet Pepsi”, under the label Columbia, which highlights Rae’s talent as a singer and is exactly the type of music the makes numbers in the market nowadays; the song peaked at number 10 in the UK and was followed by another release, “Aquamarine“, which peaked at 45. The lights are shining on Rae in 2025.

Lastly, Myles Smith makes the list after winning the BRIT’s Rising Star Award Title earlier this month. His single “Stargazing” was his first to reach the UK’s top ten peaking at number four, and remains one of the best releases of the year, then followed by his biggest debut yet with the song “Nice To Meet Ya” which peaked at number twelve and stayed on charts for six weeks. Great things are awaiting Smith in 2025.

The Good Neighbours are a duo formed in East London by Scott Verrill and Oli Fox. Earlier this month, the duo was included in BBC’s sound of 2025 list along with the likes of Chappel Roan. The two had first begun their careers as singer separately: Fox had opened for Sigrid’s UK tour in 2018, and afterwards in 2020 and 2021 had released two Eps titled “Sunburt” and “The Season”. Verrill had also released Eps as a solo artist: “Animals” in 2015, “Wildlife” in 2017 and a collection titled “Fka Kyko” in 2019. After forming the duo, Good Neighbours begun teasing their single “Home” on TikTok, and it quickly vent viral. When the song was eventually released, in February 2024, it began climbing UK charts, peaking at 27. Myles Smith was named, earlier this month, BBC’s introducing artist of the year. Smith first gained popularity during lockdown, posting covers, and went viral in 2022 with a cover of The Neighborhood’s “Sweater Weather”. Smith made UK charts with his album “A Minute”, released in 2024, which peaked at number 63. His song “Stargazing” peaked at number four in the UK, and recently “Nice To Meet you”, off the album, achieved number 12.

Elmiene, originally from Oxford, rose to fame in 2021 after a friend posted a video of him singing in his backyard. In January 2024, he was named one to watch by BBC Radio 1. Elmiene released his debut EP titled “EL-MEAN” in 2023, and it was followed by another EP titled “Marking my Time” and in 2024 Elmiene released “Marking my Time (Again)” and “Anyway I can”.

Previous years’ winners include many names that, today, are well known and have topped charts and won many awards. The rising star of 2008 was Adele, followed by Florence + The Machine in 2009, then Tom Odell, Sam Smith and more recently, Sam Fender in 2019, Griff in 2021 and FLO in 2023.

The winner of title, previously known as BRIT’s Critics Choice, will be announced on December 5, in anticipation of the much-awaited BRITs ceremony which this year will take place on March 1. The announcement will be live on the BBC Radio 1.
