Organisers of the event made the tough decision to cancel Live At Leeds to align with the new UK government guidelines concerning the ongoing coronavirus crisis. The headline act planned for Live At Leeds 2020 was Mancunian indie-pop band Pale Waves.

Additional bands confirmed for Live at Leeds were Brighton band The Magic Gang, alternative group Easy Life and rock band Shame. The Coral and American musician Ezra Furman were also set to play the city festival, where they would each deliver performances from various Leeds music venues.

Within a sorrowful but necessary statement, founders of Live At Leeds said “It may not come as a great surprise, but it will not be possible to go ahead with Live at Leeds 2020 as planned.”

The statement continued with “We’d hoped by moving the festival to the end of the year we stood the best chance we had of going ahead, but with the current guidance it’s now clear that won’t be possible, and certainly wouldn’t be the Live at Leeds experience we’ve all grown to enjoy.”

Organisers of the event also pleaded with music fans to maintain their ongoing support for record stores, music festivals and independent artists, stressing urgently that “they need your support now more than ever.” 

Live At Leeds concluded their statement with a reiteration of the group’s ethos:“Live at Leeds is a labour of love. We run this event to introduce music fans to new talent, to bring people to our city and to support the venues, staff and talented freelancers that operate throughout Leeds.”  The full statement can be accessed here. 

In regards to the event’s return, founders have confirmed that Live At Leeds will commence sometime in 2021. Ticket holders will be able to claim refunds at the point of purchase, as stated on the Live At Leeds official website.

Live At Leeds was established in 2007. Founded to mark the city’s 800th birthday milestone, the music event partnered with both music promotion company Futuresound and Leeds City Council for over a decade. Featured film industries, music industry seminars and around 50 bands playing live in and around the city centre, Live At Leeds has something for every music lover!

In other news, Shame recently shared their comeback single, Alphabet. Manic and punky, Alphabet was released on September 10th. Shame also announced news of a comeback show recently, confirming they will perform at the Electric Brixton in London on April 22nd, 2021.

Although there have been talks of the festival being postponed to September next year, Eavis took to social media today (30th August 2020) to debunk this idea. In a post on Twitter, Eavis reassured Glastonbury’s fans and long standing patrons that “For those who have been asking, we have no plans to move next year’s Glastonbury to September 2021 – we’re still very much aiming for June.”

Naturally, festival-goers are inquisitive about ticket resales for Glastonbury’s 2021 instalment, so Eavis made sure to provide an update on this important topic. Speaking out on Twitter, Eavis wrote that “so few people have asked for a refund.” This comes at no surprise, Glastonbury’s worldwide popularity makes securing a golden ticket near impossible, so to part with one is a rarity from fans. 

Unfortunately for some, this does mean that “next year’s festival remains sold out” and Glastonbury “do not have enough tickets to resell.” Eavis recognises the immense admiration festival-goers have for Glastonbury, adding that ticket re-sales will commence in April 2021. 

In terms of cancellations, Eavis confirmed that “we’ve extended the free cancellation deadline until the end of January”, giving ticket holders more time to make a decision about the important matter.

Eavis meditated upon the potential difficulty of social distancing, saying: “500 people is ok isn’t it. But my job, 250,000 altogether is too many people I suppose isn’t it really.” Eavis continued with some words of encouragement, stating “I’m still hoping I’m going to be running next year and I’m going to be moving heaven and earth to make sure that we do.”

Michael Eavis also expanded upon potential safety precautions to take for Glastonbury 2021. Eavis confirmed he has been working with Melvin Benn, the head of Festival Republic, concerning a track-and-trace app for the festival.

Benn, who oversees massive festivals such as Wireless, Reading and Leeds and Latitude, claims the scheme will utilise an NHS tracing app that ticket-holders would show at an additional security gate before safely entering Glastonbury.

Before the coronavirus crisis stopped the world in its tracks, Glastonbury was set to celebrate its fiftieth instalment this year. A massive milestone for the music festival, Glastonbury 2020 was set to welcome the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, and Sir Paul McCartney as headline acts.

Delivering an otherworldly lineup year after year, fans can only hope that Glastonbury’s gargantuan lineup will roll over into the music festival’s 2021 instalment.

However, on this day (July 15th), Latitude has delighted fans and confirmed new dates for their bigger and better 2021 comeback. Initially supposed to take place 15th-18th July 2020, Latitude 2021 will now commence between 22nd-25th July 2021. Henham Park, a hidden gem inside Suffolk’s beautiful woodlands, will remain as the location for Latitude’s 2021 installment.

With the likes of Stereophonics, Primal Scream, and Lana Del Rey headlining last year, fans can’t help but highly anticipate who the festival will pull out next year. Before it’s disappointing but completely necessary cancellation, big beat pioneers The Chemical Brothers, along with Britpop icon Liam Gallagher and rock trio Haim were meant to headline Latitude 2020. Other notable artists included Michael Kiwanuka, Snow Patrol, Charli XCX, and The Lumineers.

Although it is unconfirmed if Latitude’s 2020 acts will remain next year, thankfully fans won’t have to speculate the highly anticipated lineup much longer. Latitude also confirmed today that at 9:00 am on Friday 17th July the first batch of the 2021 lineup will be revealed. Tickets for Latitude 2021 will be available for purchase at 9:00 am, Monday 20th July.

Latitude announced the wonderful news on their official website today with the following statement: “This time, the festival takes place during the school holidays, so you can bring the whole family! Get ready for another wonderful weekend of music, arts, dance, theatre and so much more!” Latitude also released a promotional video in celebration of today’s announcement to its official YouTube Channel. Featuring shots of the woodland paradise and a flurry of fireworks, and festivities, the video evokes excitement from any British music festival lovers. 

Posting a high spirited clip of the festival, Latitude also took to Instagram to confirm the good news to their massive 48k following. Containing a heartfelt caption to fans, Latitude wrote“We’re already looking forward to being reunited with you again in Henham Park next year…We’re always better together”. Boasting over 4000 views and likes in a few short hours, the post has been met with a joyous reception from fans.
