Massive Attack are set to headline the Barclaycard British Summer Time festival in London on July 1st 2016.

Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time is a series of day long festivals that take place in London’s Hyde Park, during, you guessed, summer. The headliners for this year have been particularly impressive so far, with Kendrick Lamar and Florence and the Machine headlining the 2nd of July, Mumford & Sons on July 7th, Take That taking over July 8th and now Massive Attack have been announced as the headliners of the first in the series of summertime gigs.

The Bristolian trip-hoppers Massive Attack are to “bring a new and provocative audio-visual live show to Hyde Park”, the festival announced in a statement, with the set being designed by Robert Del Naja and visual arts collaborators United Visual Artists.

They will also be joined by a solid lineup of supporting acts performing on the day, including Warpaint, Ghostpoet, Patti smith, TV on the Radio and Mercury Prize winners and recent Massive Attack collaborators Young Fathers. Tickets go on general sale on Friday, March 11th.

The other lineups include Jamie XX, Blood Orange, Cat Power and jazz virtuoso/Kendrick Lamar collaborator Kamasi Washington supporting Kendrick and Florence. Meanwhile Mystery Jets, Wolf Alice, Alabama Shakes and Baio of Vampire Weekend will play on Mumford And Sons’ day.

The Libertines played their overly anticipated reunion gig at the BST last night with periodical pauses due to the crowd being too rowdy.

Security officers approached Barat and Doherty during their set to warn them that they would be stopped if the crowd did not calm down. After opening with ‘Vertigo’ the band were cut short midway through their second song ‘Boys In The Band’ by security. Doherty addressed the crowd repeating that ‘We can’t carry on if you don’t calm down a bit’ only to be stopped again moments later. The Libertines drummer Gary Powell addressed the crowd and began chanting the riff of The White Stripes ‘Seven Nation Army’.

Later in their set, fans were caught climbing the speaker towers resulting in a third visit from security on stage, at this point only Doherty and Barat were on stage to finish with a duet of ‘France’. Barat and Doherty grew weary of the stoppages and told the crowds that Doherty cannot do a solo with the fan’s climbing the towers, resulting Barat and Doherty not fully completing the song.

At the end of the gig The Libertines reunited on the stage and saluted their audience with Doherty expressing ‘Libertine till I die, Libertine till I die, I know I am, I’m sure I am, Queen’s Park Rangers till I die’. Powell told fans ‘you are amazing and you are all Libertines’ before the now reunited foursome left the Main Stage.

In scenes familiar to last weekend’s Glastonbury lightning incident, news of a technical fault at the Barclaycard theatre has hindered several performances which have been cancelled or rescheduled. Yesterday, Swim Deep and Graham Coxon were pulled due to faults leaving Coxon’s set being cut entirely.

Today it is McBusted headlining but their supporting acts had been cancelled including Lawson and Five. Young Kato, Hollywood Ending and Whetus had all been rescheduled to different stages and the festival organisers have issued an apology stating “We apologies to the fans attending today for any inconvenience and disappointment this may cause”. Neil Young and Tom Jones are still to headline on the 12th and 13th, as yet no comment of further cancellations has been announced.

After the infamous split of Barât and Doherty for a decade, the 1997 Indie powerhouse ‘The Libertines’ have announced a reunion gig at London Hyde park as part of the British Summer Time Festival on July 5th this year. However, as news of their ambition to seal another record deal spreads, lead singer Carl Barât announced on twitter yesterday afternoon that they would stage a warm up show on the 29th of June for their fans north of the boarder at the Barrowlands venue in Glasgow.

The Libertines split in 2004 due to a clash of interests mixed with heartbreak for the rest of the band to watch as Pete Doherty rolled in and out of rehab after exploding into a cocktail of drugs and alcohol. The band had decided to throw Doherty aside in a bid to help him clean up his act and shake off his growing reliance on drugs, but after six years The Libertines moved on without Doherty.

Eventually Barât dissolved the band as feelings became uncomfortable to continue under the Libertines name without Doherty present and continued creating material under his band ‘Dirty Pretty Things’ whilst Doherty became involved with ‘Babyshambles’. Six years later in 2010 the band began to set rumours of reunion and now in 2014 they appear to be keeping to those words in full force by seeking out a new record label after the British Summer Time Festival in July

The BST festival, sponsored by Barclay’s, will headline Arcade Fire, Neil Young, The National, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osborne and many others along with the much anticipated Libertines reunion. But if you can’t wait for that then head to the Barrowlands in Glasgow on the 29th of June to see the boys warm up before their big unveiling. No ticket sales for the Glasgow gig are available yet, however grab your seats for the BST festival in July as they will be going fast!
