This August holds a pleasingly thrilling Arctangent Festival hosted in their usual spot in the outskirts of the bustling Bristol city in Fernhill Farm. They have just proudly announced a new selection of bands that have been added to their, already monumental, line up. The infamous festival will be running from the 16th August through to the 19th August.

The festival’s first ever edition was in 2013 and has made a good name for itself since. The event is known to be based on green fields and hosts a vast variety of acts ranging from small up and coming bands to well known artists within the rock scene. A community-based place in charge of making everyone feel at home.

In 2018 they won an award for the Best Small Festival at the UK Festival Awards and were shortlisted for Best Line-up Award that very same year. A binding project put together to bring the authentic rock/alternative artists of the industry to come together to create not just an event but a whole experience, in consequence, becoming the emerging UK rock festival in town.

This year’s edition includes over 100 acts and they have just announced a new batch including the Oklahoma band Chat Pile, the progressive metal band Sikth from Watford, the excitingly chaotic band Rolo Tomassi from Sheffield alongside Chinese Football, GGGOLDDD, HEALTH, Car Bomb, Caligula’s Horse, Apidae, Abraham, Burial Clouds, Hammok, Hypno5e, Pothamus, Death Goals, Lys Morke and WitchSorrow.

The selection of fresh new arrivals will be playing alongside the already announced headliners Heilung, an experimental folk band known for their time capsuling style of the Iron Age, the band Converge who maintain an important spot within the metalcore and extreme metal scene coming all the way from the US, Deafhaven playing their 2013 Sunbather album as a UK exclusive, the genre mashing French musician known as Igorrr, not to mention the well known Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, the English heavy metal band Loathe, described accurately by their name, as well as Opeth, Messhugah, Battles, Glassjaw, Explosions In The Sky, This Will Destroy You and many, many more.

They curate their line-ups, designed originally in order to not be found anywhere else on Earth. A fully independent project running solely off a passion toward the spreading of the industry’s music that deserves to be heard internationally, creating a beloved community giving unknown bands the opportunity to prove themselves to the outer world.

UPDATE 14th April 2023

The line up has been updated since, with massive new headliner, Devin Townsend, playing on the Saturday night amongst a selection of other new bands. These include the UK progressive rockers Haken, Aiming For Enrique, YOURCODENAMEIS:MILO, Ashenspire, CLT DRP and the Guru Guru.

Post-punk legend Siouxsie has finally emerged from under the rocks after a decade-long break from performing. She has come back with an added 3 live gigs in Europe and is ready to kick off this coming 3rd of May in Brussels.

The five shows will take place in scattered areas around the world. The lucky chosen cities include Brussels followed by Amsterdam, Milan, California and Suffolk, UK. Two of which she will be headlining festivals Latitude and Cruel World. However, it is not yet established whether these are the final and only dates she will be offering her fans. It is suspected se could be making a couple more stops before making her way back to the UK for her, current, final show.

She will be performing a headline show at Cruel World Festival on the Saturday, 20th of May alongside artists Iggy Pop, Billy Idol, Love and Rockets, The Human League, etc. It is a recently established festival based in the Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Founded in 2020 and dedicated to showcasing bands belonging to the new wave, post-punk, gothic rock and alternative rock scenes. Perfectly fit to be lead by such an iconic figure in said music scene. Her other headline show is at Latitude Festival on the Sunday, 23rd of July based in east England in Henham Park, Suffolk, playing alongside George Ezra, Paolo Nutini, Pulp, and many more. A festival varying more between genres including jazz, R&B, indie-rock and pop.

Siouxsie’s last performance sits back in 2013 when she was invited to sing at Yoko Ono’s Meltdown Festival, held in the Royal Festival Hall in London. The crowd were blessed with a hell of a show featuring a selection of her best 80’s and 90’s hits. She and her band, much to everyone’s welcomed surprise, played almost the whole Banshees album Kaleidoscope from the 80’s. Little did they know that that would be the last taste they’d be getting of her bewitching presence before her re-emergence now 10 years later.

Ever since her first ever appearance singing live at the 100 Club Punk Festival in 1979 she has become a spine-chilling music icon, a powerful female leader, a music culture innovator and the creator of over eleven studio albums with the Banshees. The rock queen hasn’t failed to put on a good show throughout her active years and, if anything, a trooper like her won’t come back quietly. Even at 65 years of age. Her coming shows are guaranteed to be a mysterious, entrancing and historic experience, in hopes of hearing all her and her bands best hits. Tickets for Latitude and Cruel World are currently available to buy online, however, the Brussels, Amsterdam and Milan shows are still to be released.

All tickets are available to buy here.

Radiohead drummer, Phil Selway, has surfaced with a gripping new UK tour this 2023. After a long suspense for most of the English rock band’s fans, he re-emerges since his last tour back in 2015. In the most Selway manner, he manages to quietly cook up an exciting new solo album Strange Dance. His first since his last release Weatherhouse eight years ago.

He released the album’s first single “Check For Signs Of Life” in October 2022, alongside an enthralling one-take music video. A thrilling workpiece which encapsulates perfectly the whole essence of what the forthcoming album is meant to render. He, additionally, has just released a second single of the LP “Picking Up The Pieces” with its very own music video also, just as captivating and touching as the last, preparing us for the final album release on the 24th February.

Drawn up for the perfect release, on the run up to this date, Phillip began his tour around the UK on Monday, the 30th January in Norwich. He will be making his way through several different cities to finally wrap up in St Andrews, Scotland on the Sunday, 19th of February, days before the drop of his new sound.

The Radiohead member has allowed to reflect his past on Strange Dance and, embrace the fact that he has a certain age and wisdom to transmit through his music. In an interview with SPIN he says “There can be a temptation to mask the aging process in music or any kind of public-facing media. I think that can be a very limiting stance. You need to be confident in where you are.” Confirming a peace with where he stands, and his passion for dedicating time to writing songs as a solo artist.

Whilst Selway focused on his own path, other Radiohead members contributed to a newly formed band The Smile. A project which generated over lockdown, constituted by the members of the famous rock band, including Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, bass, keys), Johnny Greenwood (guitar, bass, keys) as well as the drummer Tom Skinner. They stand mysteriously, allowing the listeners slowly into their whirlwind of experimental, Post-Punk, Progressive Rock and Electronic music through unforeseen revelations.

They first dropped six singles in early 2022 and proceeded to finally releasing their entire debut album A Light For Attracting Attention in May last year, followed by an international tour. The band has now announced a new live record release EUROPE: LIVE RECORDINGS 2022. A vinyl only, limited edition EP, containing live recordings of the publics favourite tunes throughout their first ever tour last year, available to buy on the 10th of March across record shops. Inevitably, the band also announced their upcoming tour around the US, kicking off this June to run through until the end of July in 2023.

You Me At Six are back with a new single, the second from their upcoming album SUCKAPUNCH. ‘Beautiful Way’, their latest single, premiered as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record last night (September 21). They also confirmed details of their new album: SUCKAPUNCH will be released on January 15, via Underdog Records/AWAL.

‘Beautiful Way’ follows ‘MAKEMEFEELALIVE’, released earlier this month. For a niche and dated cultural reference, it sounds like ‘Planetary (GO!)’ from My Chemical Romance’s Danger Days. Indeed, what with the lyrical themes and the video storylines that You Me At Six have been releasing recently, we might wonder if SUCKAPUNCH is heading in a similar direction to My Chemical Romance’s fourth album – although it is very clear that You Me At Six’s seventh offering is going to be much heavier than we are used to from them.

NME asked lead singer Josh Franceschi whether ‘Beautiful Way’ was a good indicator of how SUCKAPUNCH will sound sonically. He replied with this: “It takes the traditional You Me At Six sound and gives it a fresh feel which is what we wanted for this album.

“On our last album ‘VI’, it felt like we were sparring with the idea of the next step for the band. With ‘SUCKAPUNCH’ it feels like we’re there. We now understand how to implement our interests in hip-hop and R&B without it feeling forced or contrived. I don’t think anybody has heard our band do what we are doing right now.”

Speaking to both Kerrang! and NME, Franceschi has let the word “masterpiece” slip out. We have to wonder if the term is used partly in recognition of the themes that You Met At Six are choosing to tackle on their seventh album. The standalone single that they released earlier this year, ‘Our House (The Mess We Made)’ betrays overwhelming distress at the state of the climate. It was written during the outbreak of bushfires in Australia at the beginning of year, and it strikes me as one of the most sophisticated, ambitious releases I have ever heard from You Me At Six. Little could they have known just how many crises and injustices we would find ourselves facing by now.

‘MAKEMEFEELALIVE’ is concerned for “the lost generation”. The second verse goes, “let’s start the conversation / how do we alienate them / 2020 invasion of the senses”. ‘Beautiful Way’ turns this inward, a song about wrestling with identity, coping mechanisms, mistakes and “the wear and tear of being a human being”.

Both of their latest videos present these heavy themes with dystopian storylines. ‘Beautiful Way’ could be a trailer for a new Mad Max film, set in the middle of a desert, containing intricate and absorbing dance/martial arts routines, while the band powers through their new single on an outdoor set on a different plain. Their stage is marked out with red sand that looks eerily more like blood as the video progresses.

A further recent offering from the band is the lyric video to ‘MAKEMEFEELALIVE’ which contains footage of drummer Dan Flint skydiving (something that makes him feel alive, you see?) Although the song is heavy, the video is seriously feel-good; Flint’s adrenaline feels contagious. Certainly, these are explosive, energetic releases from a band who know exactly where they want to be in the game.
