Fans took to social media to rave about the concert, with many calling it her best UK performance yet. Adding to the spectacle, Carpenter paid tribute to British style with her stage outfits, including a dazzling Union Jack-inspired ensemble reminiscent of the Spice Girls’ iconic ‘90s fashion.

Carpenter’s UK tour has also seen performances in Birmingham (March 6) and Glasgow (March 11), with another upcoming performance in Manchester tomorrow, March 13. The singer is then continuing on the European leg of the tour, starting in Paris and finishing in Amsterdam on March 23. Beyond her headline tour, Carpenter is also set to take the stage at one of the UK’s biggest festivals this summer. She is confirmed to perform at the BST Hyde Park festival on Saturday, July 5, with an additional performance on Sunday, July 6, due to overwhelming demand.

The ‘Espresso’ singer has experienced a remarkable success in the UK music scene. Her sixth studio album, ‘Short n’ Sweet‘ (2024), debuted at number one on the Official UK Albums Chart. The album’s success was bolstered by hit singles such as ‘Taste’, ‘Please Please Please’, and ‘Espresso’, which notably occupied the top three spots on the Official UK Singles Chart simultaneously, a first for any female artist.

In March 2025, Sabrina’s achievements were further recognised when she received the Global Success award at the BRIT Awards. This accolade, traditionally awarded to British artists, was presented to an international artist for the first time, highlighting her exceptional global impact.

The ‘Short n’ Sweet’ tour showcases all signature elements of Carpenter’s dynamic and evolving artistry. As she progresses through her UK and European tour, Sabrina Carpenter is proving she’s more than just a pop star, she’s a powerful presence in the music industry.

In the statement, the family said: “Liam’s death was an unspeakable tragedy,”

“This is a time of tremendous grief and pain for those who knew and loved him. Liam ought to have had a long life ahead of him,” they added about the late One Direction singer.

“Instead, Bear has lost his father, Geoff and Karen have lost their son, Ruth and Nicola have lost their brother and all of Liam’s friends and fans have lost someone they held very dear.”

They also said that Bear is now “trying to process emotions which no 7-year-old should have to experience.”

The family’s statement comes after Argentinian authorities have dropped charges against Payne’s friend Roger Nores, and two hotel workers. Five people were arrested and charged in connection with the One Direction stars death, with Nores charged with negligent homicide, and the hotel employees charged with manslaughter.

Payne’s family addressed this in their statement: “We understand that the investigation into Liam’s death was absolutely necessary and the family recognises the work done by the Argentinian authorities. However, the family accepts the Court of Appeal’s decision to drop all charges.”

Two other men are still charged with supplying drugs to Payne on the night of his fatal fall.

Payne died, age 31, in October 2024 after falling from the balcony of a third-story hotel room in Casa Sur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The ‘For You’ singer suffered multiple head traumas, including a fractured skull, leading to internal and external bleeding. At the time of his death, he was intoxicated, with alcohol and multiple drugs in his system.

The family also acknowledged the emotional tribute to Liam at the Brit Awards on Saturday: “This weekend, at the Brit Awards, Liam was remembered for his phenomenal contribution to British music and for his wider, positive impact on millions of adoring fans the world over. We joined in that celebration of his life and will forever remember the joy that his music brought to the world.”

In an emotional segment mid-show segment, Jack Whitehall, one of Payne’s friends, led the tribute, saying that “He achieved so much in the short time that he was on this earth, and was not only a supremely gifted musician but an incredibly kind soul who touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with,”

“We have so many amazing memories of Liam here at the Brits, so tonight we celebrate his legacy and look back and remember the remarkable Liam Payne.”

The screens then showed a montage of the late musician, with live performances, soundbites from interviews, and photos and videos from throughout his life and career – set to ‘Little Things’ by One Direction. You can find our write-up of this year’s Brit Awards here.

The 45th Brit Awards unfolded tonight, March 1, at London’s O2 Arena, celebrating the pinnacle of musical talent from the past year. Hosted by Jack Whitehall for the fifth time, the ceremony was marked by standout performances and notable victories.

Charli XCX won Song of the Year for her collaboration with Billie Eilish on ‘Guess’. The singer was against The Beatles, Dua Lipa, Myles Smith, and JADE in this category. In her acceptance speech, she said: “Thank you, this is cool. I’m pretty happy that a song about underwear now has a Brit Award.”

The singer also won Best Album, Best Dance Act, Songwriter of the Year, and Artist of the Year, a total of five awards. JADE won Best Pop Act. Other nominees included Myles Smith and Lola Young. This marks JADE’s first solo Brit Award since Little Mix announced their hiatus in 2022. The singer also delivered a captivating performance of her debut solo single ‘Angel of My Dreams‘.

Sam Fender won Best Alternative/Rock Act against The Cure and also delivered a performance of his latest single ‘People Watching‘. The musician expressed his gratitude to his fans, acknowledging their pivotal role in his success. He further thanked his band, stating: “I want to say a huge thanks to my band, who without, I’m just a mad person shouting at walls.”

Chappell Roan won International Song of the Year for ‘Good Luck, Babe‘. The track entered the Official Singles Chart Top 40 in April 2024. It peaked and remained in the Top 10 for 16 weeks and was the eighth biggest single of 2024 in the UK. The singer also won International Artist of the Year. Stormzy won his fourth Brit Award for Best Rap/ Hip-Hop Act and RAYE secured her seventh Brit Award for Best R&B Act.

A heartfelt tribute was paid to Liam Payne, who tragically passed away in October 2024 at the age of 31. The ceremony featured a video montage celebrating Payne’s life and illustrious career, from his early days on The X Factor to his monumental success with One Direction and his subsequent solo endeavours. The montage included performances, childhood photos, and personal moments with his family, all set to the backdrop of One Direction’s ‘Little Things‘.

Smith was up against the indie duo Good Neighbours and the soul singer Elmiene in the category.  The Brit Rising Star Award is traditionally announced ahead of the main Brit Awards ceremony. Sheeran’s success continued to grow following the release of his second album ‘x’ (Multiply) in 2014. This record cemented his international reputation, featuring chart-topping tracks like ‘Sing’ and ‘Thinking Out Loud’ which won Song of the Year at the Grammys. The album’s success anchored the singer in the global music scene as Spotify named ‘x’ the most-streamed album in 2014. 

Three years later, and his third album ‘÷’ (Divide) granted Sheeran commercial domination as singles like ‘Shape of You’ and ‘Castle on the Hill’ shattered global streaming records. His accompanying ‘÷ Tour’ was a historic success and became the highest-grossing tour at that time generating $925m (£727m).

Over the decade, Sheeran amassed 79 cumulative weeks at No.1 on UK Charts and sold over 150 million records worldwide. His ability to craft across genres and relatable, emotive songwriting skills made the singer-songwriter a global, award-winning star. Therefore it is no surprise that he was named UK Artist of the Decade for the 2010s. 

As we reach the halfway mark of the 2020s, it’s worth considering who might achieve similar heights.

Taylor Swift is undoubtedly at the forefront of global music. With 11 studio albums and record-breaking Eras tour grossing at $2b (£1.6b), she has become a global phenomenon. Yet, with her tour concluded, there will be room for new voices to make their mark.

In the UK, the BRIT Awards indicate that artists like Harry Styles and RAYE are making waves. 

In 2019, Styles’ second studio album ‘Fine Line’ became a massive commercial success and produced multiple hit singles like ‘Watermelon Sugar’. ‘Harry’s House’ in 2022 became his third album and was followed by a 22-month ‘Love On Tour’ World Tour and domination at the BRITs.

Not only a major force in modern pop, he has explored his passion for acting and fashion, making him a multifaceted figure in the entertainment industry. Styles’ success story parallels Sheeran’s, as they’ve both diversified their musical styles and have expanded into other creative avenues, making Styles a sure contender for defining the 2020s.

RAYE has undergone a significant transformation in her music career during this decade as she made the decision to leave her major record label and established herself independently. Her breakthrough single ‘Escapism’ shot up the UK charts and preceded her debut album ‘My 21st Century Blues’ in 2023. After sweeping six awards at the BRITs in 2024, RAYE’s career is clearly blooming and her unique sound paired with skilled songwriting reflects Sheeran’s iconic abilities.

Ed Sheeran’s dominance was built on a combination of volume, quality, and consistency: three standout albums and a record-breaking tour. With five years left in this decade, established artists will need to continue innovating to maintain their influence but there’s still plenty of room for new voices to emerge.

The question remains: Will anyone else match Sheeran’s level of achievement by the time the 2020s draw to a close?

The 2025 BRIT Awards will continue to be sponsored by Mastercard and will take place on Saturday 1 March 2025 at London’s prestigious O2 Arena, for its 14^th year running. The BRITs moved their ceremony to the weekend in 2023 and it seems the weekend ceremony is here to stay.

Next year’s trophy has been designed by the incredible Gabriel Moses, a British-Nigerian artist and photographer known for his work with both Little Simz and Stormzy. Moses spoke to the BRITs about his inspiration and design process for the 2025 trophy, he stated: “It all stems from my upbringing, my Nigerian heritage, sculptural works my mum would showcase all around our house… We tried to blend history and presence, with the latter informing the colours and texture of the sculpture, as for me it was also key to bring my photographs into this. To do so, we focused on the textural aspect of it, which is reminiscent of light and backdrops I use”.

The 2025 BRIT Awards will mark its 32^nd ceremony where ITV remains its official broadcaster, meaning the show will be broadcast on both ITV1 and ITVX.

As anticipation for next year’s ceremony builds, BRIT has announced the 16 categories which will be presented during the show.

Although BRIT is yet to announce any of next year’s nominees, in previous years they have been held under scrutiny for their choice of nominees. In 2022, the BRIT Awards introduced gender neutral categories which merged male and female artist awards to include male, female and nonbinary acts, despite these changes the category did not include any women. This led to BRIT increasing the number of nominees in 2023 from five to ten, to include more women in the category.

Along with a lack of nominees being announced by BRIT, they haven’t yet announced the lineup of performances for the night. Last year saw pop icon Dua Lipa perform ‘Training Season’, Jungle perform ‘Back On 74’, Kylie Minogue perform a medley from her legendary discography after being awarded the Global Icon Award and Raye, who performed a medley of ‘Ice Cream Man’, ‘Prada’ and ‘Escapism’ after stunning viewers for breaking BRIT records for winning six awards in one night.

With the BRIT Awards track record, it is no doubt that BRIT will announce a list of iconic acts to perform at next year’s ceremony. For more updates on the forthcoming awards, tickets and additional information can be found here.
