Nick Cave, the dark poet of rock and roll, is returning to Europe for an exclusive solo tour in summer 2025, bringing his singular intensity to a string of intimate venues across the continent. Armed with just a grand piano and the brooding basslines of Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood, Cave will strip his music down to its rawest form—offering fans an unfiltered experience of his haunting storytelling and devastating ballads.

The tour begins June 10 in Zurich, Switzerland, and winds its way through Germany, Italy, France, Norway, Latvia, and Bulgaria, culminating in a final, spellbinding performance at the ancient Plovdiv Amphitheater on August 19. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 31 at 10 AM local time on Cave’s website.

Nick Cave’s concerts have long been considered as more than just gigs—they’re spiritual experiences. Whether he’s whispering at the piano or unleashing his full fury, his performances are a communion between artist and audience, where every lyric feels carved from the depths of his soul.

His musical style is a haunting blend of gothic rock, blues, and post-punk, but it’s his ability to turn every song into a narrative that truly sets him apart. His lyrics, often steeped in biblical allusion and steeped in a kind of fevered mysticism, are more akin to literary prose than standard songwriting. He sings of love, death, violence, and redemption with a delivery that moves from sultry crooning to full-throated, manic rants. His early work with The Bad Seeds pulsed with raw, chaotic energy, but as his career evolved, so did his sound. Cave’s later albums lean toward lush orchestration and minimalistic piano ballads, creating a sound as simply heartbreaking as it is sweepingly cinematic. His music is both timeless and otherworldly, a space where the shadows of old gospel, blues, and noir cinema collide in a whirlpool of dark intensity.

Cave has only undertaken two solo tours before, making his upcoming tour his highly anticipated third. The first, Conversations with Nick Cave (2018-2020), was an intimate, unscripted experience where Cave performed solo on piano and shared personal stories, including his grief after the loss of his son, Arthur. A film, recorded at the Ally Pally, was released in September 2020. In 2022, Cave returned for his second solo tour, joined by Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood on bass, with minimalist performances that mixed Bad Seeds classics and newer material from Ghosteen and Carnage.

This solo tour follows his North American run with St. Vincent and comes just months after the release of ‘Wild God,’ his latest album with The Bad Seeds. Known for his ability to reimagine his catalog with each new tour, Cave may surprise fans with stripped-down versions of both old classics and new masterpieces.

While no official setlist has been revealed, Cave’s solo shows often include deeply personal, piano-driven favourites. ‘Into My Arms’—written during his time in rehab—seems inevitable, as does ‘O Children,’ a track discovered by a new generation after its inclusion in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Songs like ‘Jubilee Street’ and ‘The Mercy Seat’ have taken on mythic status in his live repertoire, and with ‘Wild God’ still fresh, tracks like ‘Joy’ or ‘The Break’ could take on even greater emotional weight in this stripped-back format.

This tour’s venues are as much a part of the experience as the music itself. From the grand Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg to the ruins of Pompei’s amphitheater, every space has been carefully chosen to amplify Cave’s dark magic. Expect candlelit intensity, whispered prayers, and a sense that for a few hours, the outside world has ceased to exist.

The four time Grammy winner, Ed Sheeran, made a surprise visit to Fairlight Primary school in Brighton last Friday, for an intimate performance and a chat about music.

What was a seemingly routine assembly quickly turned into a once in a lifetime opportunity for the children at Fairlight, as Ed Sheeran emerged to sing his hits: Shape of You, Perfect, and Bad Habits. Following his personal performance, he stayed for a discussion with the children about the importance of music education, and how much it has benefited him and his career. The 33 year old was even kind enough to donate five of his own guitars in hope to inspire a new generation of musicians, and to emphasise the importance of music education and the opportunities it can bring.

The headteacher, Mr Jordan, said that staff and students were completely unaware of this event, and he himself had only found out the day before, telling the BBC that “I was told that a famous singer wanted to see the music classes at the school.

Create Music, a Brighton-based project ran by the Brighton Dome and Brighton Festival, were the organisers of this event. Their aims are to provide inclusive music education, which Ed Sheeran was advocating for whilst speaking to numerous students during his visit.

This impromptu performance is not the first in Sheeran’s career. He is quite well known for doing spontaneous gigs far away from the shining lights and screams of huge stadiums, that he is used to performing in. Only last November, he was found making an appearance in Suffolk at The Rumburgh Buck, and even earlier last year he shocked fans by showing up on their doorstep, ready to provide a personal performance in their living room as part of the promotion for his new album ‘Autumn Variations’.

The headteacher Mr Jordan, talking to BBC, added that they “are so grateful for his support and for the generous donation of instruments to help other budding musicians on their way.”

Fatboy Slim has addressed the issue of a popular venue facing what he calls, a slow death if planning for a commercial building goes forward in Brighton. The musician/DJ performed a secret set at the famous Prince Albert Pub in the city on Monday night and addressed those gathered about the need to protect and preserve the grassroots venue.

Save the Prince Albert music venue in Brighton… @musicvenuetrust https://t.co/xzrXp9hpG8

— Fatboy Slim (@FatboySlim) October 27, 2023

Over 1200 people have already voiced their displeasure and opposition to a planning application for a commercial building to go up next door to the pub, while 14,000 have signed their names to a petition to the block the proposal. Grassroots venue locations have been a constant headline within the UK music scene of late, with many locations facing complete closure or the threat of shutdown in favour of commercial projects.

Getting his start in the Brighton club scene, Fatboy Slim played a secret show at the Prince Albert on 30 October and told the crowd, “It’s a long slow death over three or four years if the neighbours complain. In Brighton, we preserve our Grade II and Grade I listed buildings, we preserve Regency architecture because it’s part of what Brighton is. We should preserve music venues in the same way because they’re a more recent part of Brighton culture but a huge amount nonetheless.”

Grassroots music venues have been the subject of a growing political debate with many UK artists weighing in, claiming that small, often underground locations are where they have got their starts and without them, the industry would face an uncertain future. Ed Sheeran, Bring Me The Horizon and Arctic Monkeys are only a few such artists that have expressed their concern over the growing threat of a commercial takeover of these venues.

A recent report by the MVT urged urgent government action to save grassroots venues with the consequence of choking off the stream of emerging talent if action is not taken. Mark Davyd, the CEO of MVT said recently at a panel about the future of grassroots music at Beyond The Music conference this month that “127 music venues of the grassroots type have stopped programming live music or closed down entirely.”

Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook is best known for his DJ work, producing hit singles “Praise You,” “Right Here, Right Now” and “Weapon Of Choice.” His singles have often been accompanied by highly artistic, often surreal music videos directed by the likes of Spike Jones and starring prominent actors such as Christopher Walken.

Delving into the vulnerable themes of heartbreak and letting go, the London-based singer Francesca Morris released her powerful single “Where’d You Go” on the the sixth of October. Combining pain fuelled lyrics, driving, steady drums and a production quality that intensifies as the song progresses, the songwriter has perfectly captured the deep emotion of loss.

In an interview with Mxdwn Magazine she spoke about her emotions during the writing process “I wrote this song a week after having someone I loved seemingly completely change their attitude to me overnight, and I went in the studio straight away with Paul Stanborough to produce the song. I think the initial anger, hurt and confusion I felt in those first few weeks really comes across in the final production”.

The London-based artist, who has been writing and performing music since the age of 12, released her debut single ‘Never Will’ on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, iTunes and Amazon in August 2023. She has named alt-pop artists such as Holly Humberstone and BLÜ EYES as strong influences in her writing.

‘Where’d You Go’ was produced by Paul Stanborough (Kylie Minogue, Natasha Bedingeld, Benedict Cork) and Morris thanked Stanborough for his “musical genius“ in her release day Instagram post.

Listen to the song here:

Collaborating with songwriters all over the globe, the artist has seen her work played on Radio 1, BBC Introducing, Love Island and has been featured on both New Music Friday UK Notable Releases. Through studying Music at Leeds College of Music and ICMP, Francesca’s passion for songwriting, specifically toplining, only grew stronger. She has a vast network of writers who she regularly works with and her versatility and creativity seemingly showers in to each writing session she attends.

The Brighton born, BRIT School alumna has announced two upcoming live UK dates in both Brighton and London with the first being a showcase at The Camden Club on the first of November. The Chalk Farm based venue has started a new evening of artist showcases which is free to attend. Joining the singer will be Amaya and The Echoes and Bonita Delaney.

On the sixteenth of November, Morris will join Shoegaze and Dreampop inspired artist Oliver Beardmore and Maida Rose on the Brighton leg of their tour at The Folklore Rooms. Tickets can be bought here. The singer is definitely one to watch – with more live shows and music in the new year, there is plenty more on it’s way.

To see Francesca live, get tickets to the singer’s next show at The Camden Club here:

— LOUD WOMEN (@loudwomenclub) July 4, 2023

The up and coming five-piece have begun attracting attention for their unique style- branded in some quarters as ‘nu-gothika’-of heavy music that draws on influences from Architects and Bring Me the Horizon to Poppy and Kate Bush. The fresh and original sound the band have been promoting is sure to have plenty of admirers within the genre and “smother (make me suffer)” sounds like just the song to take the band to the next level in their promising careers.

Knife bride emerged onto the Brighton scene with proggy, melodic hit “Tits and Teeth” that introduced their distinctive sound. The single was closely followed up by the crowd rouser, “Grenade”-a song addressing female sexual harassment based on the clothing they wear. But the band have also embraced femininity in a more sensual, sexual way-the group often describing their sound as ‘slut metal’ which is meant to represent a reclaiming of the word, while also acknowledging its inflammatory nature.

What is for sure however, is that no matter which way you view the band, their message is clear: being true to yourself no matter the perception or societal bond. And this is what has set Knife Bride apart from their contemporaries, making them one of the most exciting bands to emerge onto the scene.

The band look set to further explore the themes of a patriarchal society examined through the lens of satire and female empowerment. Speaking about the new single, vocalist Mollie Buckley explained, “I wanted to incorporate the word ‘smother’ into a song ever since being obsessed with the song “Smother Me” by The Used from the age of 14-the lyrical content is actually inspired as a response to this song. “smother (make me suffer)” attempts to poke fun at the male gaze….satirically commenting on being a subservient female and letting a man have his cake and eat it.”

The song will feature on Knife Bride’s upcoming EP don’t dream too much-a project that focuses on a disturbing single night trilogy of gruesome dreams experienced by Buckley. The band has already featured on their share of massive tours, serving as support acts for the likes of Kid Bookie, Banks Arcade and Wargasm as well as playing a few iconic festivals such as Download and Throwfest- a bright start for any band and one that Knife Bride will be looking to continue.

Brighton post-punk band Squid has shared the second single, “The Blades”, from their upcoming sophomore album O Monolith. Melodic guitars nimbly navigate through funky basslines whilst drums beat to uncommon time signatures on this experimental and energetic new single. Listen below:

Lead singer and drummer of the group Ollie Judge said of the track’s meaning in a press release, “On the surface it’s a song about police brutality with the last section kind of inspired by The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe, although I’ve never read the book, I’ve just seen The Simpsons’ spoof of it”.

He went on to say, “Narratively it follows a police helicopter pilot’s day, ending with him in bed hearing another pilot circling the skies as if he were taunting him. There’s a deeper meaning in there somewhere of my fear of ego, but I’m still working out which bit of the song that’s coming from.”

The single premiered on the 25th May alongside a music video starring English actress Charlotte Ritchie known for her roles in Fresh Meat, Dead Pixels, and You. Enduring mind-numbing boredom, Ritchie’s character arbitrarily awaits an entirety for an appointment in a drab grey waiting room and dreams of the lush British countryside. The video was directed by Norwegian director Kasper Häggstrøm who has previously worked with Radiohead and Kelly Lee Owens.

Squid announced their second LP would be released in the summer back in February writing on their Instagram, “Pleased to announce our second album O Monolith out 9th June. We worked really hard on this record. We recorded it in Wiltshire among lots of green space just as spring was setting in.” They continued, “It’s an album about fears, whatever may or may not be beyond the skies, death, rats and bedside cabinets. Thanks for your patience and we hope you enjoy it.” Pre-order the album here.

The band will head out on an Autumn UK and Europe tour later this year in support of their new album playing eight gigs around the UK. To celebrate the release of O Monolith, Squid will be performing and signing records in stores and at a few outdoor shows in the UK this June. Fans can also catch Squid at various festivals this summer including Rock Werchter, Standon Calling, Greenman, and RALLY. For tickets and more information see here.

Squid is comprised of lead singer and drummer Ollie Judge, guitarists Louis Borlase and Anton Pearson, bassist Laurie Nankivel, and keyboardist Arthur Leadbetter, and are currently based in Bristol. Their debut album Bright Green Field caused quite the buzz with its release 2021 receiving 5-star reviews from NME, Gigwise, and The Line of Best Fit.

The six-date tour will kick off in March and will see the rapper visit six cities including; Dublin, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, London and his hometown Brighton.

Ardee has been on the rise since the release of his breakout track “Cheeky Bars” which he released nine months ago and currently sits on 5.5 million views on UK rap channel Mixtape Madness. Ardee went from strength to strength releasing his follow up “6 am in Brighton” which sits on 7.6 million views, before getting his call up for the remix for the chart-topping track “Body” which currently sits on 75 million views with Ardee having the stand out verse with his catchy lyrics “Adeola wanna roll with a gezza” which went viral on Tiktok.

Ardees appearance on The “Body” remix was his first link up with Edmonton rapper Tion Wayne before the 19-year old from Brighton Jumped on his album single “Wid It” which charted at 19th on the official charts and gained just under 10 million views in two months.

Ardee is new in the rap game but his ability to chart is effortless with his latest release “Flowers(Say my name)” giving the rapper his first solo top 5 after its first week.

The 19-year-old is yet to release a body of work but despite this is still pulling in 6 million monthly listeners on Spotify with only 9 official releases, 2 being Freestyles on Plugged in with fumez and a Grm Dialy duppy, 2 being features alongside Tion Wayne and Digga D. With his tour not set to go ahead until the end of march the rapper has got more than enough time to release a project.

Daniel Wakeford, a singer-songwriter local to the Brighton and Hove area and title frontman of the Daniel Wakeford Experience, will be playing at The Prince Albert on the 7th August 2021, giving two performances in the afternoon and evening.

Wakeford shot to fame after appearing multiple times on the Channel 4 TV show The Undateables, in which people who live with challenging conditions attempt to find love and the show follows their progress. Wakeford is autistic, and after his music appeared on the show fans responded in a hugely positive way. In his fourth appearance on the show, he was filmed on tour performing his songs, and the tracks resonated with audiences.

Wakeford began making music in 2009 when musician and producer Tom Cook introduced him to Carousel, an organisation that runs music projects for disabled people, who were able to support Daniel to write his own music. Over the past decade, Wakeford has written over 60 songs with the help of Tom Cook and Carousel. He was a finalist in the European Song Competition in 2014 with his song ‘The Black of Lonely’ which he performed with a 21 piece orchestra.

His last tour, which took place in 2018, consisted of 19 UK dates all of which sold out, and he also made appearances on Good Morning Britain to promote his second album ‘That’s How I See It’.

As well as making great music, Wakeford is a fantastic positive role model for any people with learning disabilities looking to make it in music.

The band released a statement on their social media that reads “The time has come to bring Black Peaks to its close,” the band’s statement begins. “Over the past four years, we have dealt with some incredibly hard and demanding situations which we have done our absolute best to work through. Unfortunately, we have reached a point where we don’t feel we can continue in a way that is healthy for us.”

Black Peaks then went on to thank all their fans “Thank you for being the greatest support network we could’ve ever hoped for. We have achieved things that we never thought would be possible when we began this journey. So, for supporting our vision, we owe you our utmost gratitude.

They then finished with “A special thank you to our team, who we believe to be some of the best in business. It has been our pleasure to learn from and grow with these wonderful humans over the last 10 years and we couldn’t have done it without them.”
