The Sex Pistols, Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and the estate of Sid Vicious have entered into a new international publishing agreement with BMG. Their portfolio includes such artists as Kylie Minogue, Craig David, The Rolling Stones and many more. This deal comprises their share of the band’s revolutionary songwriting portfolio; John Lydon and original bassist Glen Matlock did not participate in this arrangement.

John Lydon has distanced himself from the Sex Pistols following reports of a deal, citing accusations that they were trying to profit off the death of Queen Elizabeth II. This statement was issued by Public Image Ltd on their Twitter feed on John Lyndons behalf.

The agreement with BMG includes key singles from the album Never mind The Bollocks including “Anarchy In The UK”, “God Save The Queen” and “Pretty Vacant”. Their 1977 single “God Save the Queen” was banned by the BBC in the UK and appeared at No. 2 on the Official Singles chart, leading to accusations that the song was purposely kept off the top spot. For the only time in chart history, the track was listed as a blank, to avoid offence to the establishment. Along with retailers such as Woolworths and WHSmith refusing to stock the single.

The company’s VP in music publishing, Michael Howe, added, “Steve, Paul, and Sid’s works with Sex Pistols are among the most important cultural and creative music of the last half-century. “Their impact on society and the performing arts is orders of magnitude greater than the group’s incredibly brief lifespan and recorded output would suggest. The band’s influence resonates as deeply today as it did in 1977.” During this interview Steve Jones added, “Where’s my money?!”

The Sex Pistols may have only had two years of active performance, yet the impact they had on music and culture is tremendous and everlasting. This point is exceptionally highlighted by their seminal 1977 debut record album Never Mind the Bollocks, which is indisputably considered one of the most exhilarating and influential albums in punk rock music history.

In a recent statement BMG said “Sex Pistols are among the most important and recognisable rock bands in history, and their legacy is felt across fashion, art and society.”

She started releasing music in her teens and has released some of the biggest hits of the decade. Her deal with BMG marks a new chapter for Rita where she can deploy the confidence and knowledge of her artistry and audience in navigating the next phase of her career with her at the helm. I’m so proud of the past 10 years we have worked together and I’m so excited for people to hear the music she’s been creating.”

The company combines the services of a music publisher and record label to deliver the best possible care for their artists. A statement on their site describes their mission statement, “Our radical approach to an often old-fashioned – and sometimes unfair – the music industry has been to focus our efforts on looking at things from the artist and songwriter’s perspective.”

Ora joins a roster full of music’s most successful artists including British Icon David Bowie, fellow pop star Kylie Minogue, Bruno Mars and two of Britain’s most loved bands Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. Rita is unique among UK artists in the breadth of her activities, from music to TV, film and business, something normally only associated with US artists like Lady Gaga and Beyonce. We look forward to helping achieve her ambitious goals.”

Louis Tomlinson has just signed with BMG for his second album. During his time creating music with boy band One Direction and for his first solo album, the singer was part of Sony Music Entertainment, most closely associated with the label under it, Syco Music. Tomlinson confirmed his departure from Syco via Twitter back in July 2020, but had not yet shared details of his next steps.

Stay safe and see you soon, Louis x

Now we know where the Doncaster native has chosen to go, and we also know that he is in the middle of working on his second album with them. BMG VP A&R Jamie Nelson stated: “We are delighted to welcome Louis to BMG. He is already busy working on new music, and we are excited to join him on the next phase of his extraordinary career.” At this stage, both Louis and BMG are still very cryptic, but we can see that something new is in the works, and we can be on the lookout.

This news is accompanied by other recent news that the 29-year-old songwriter has had to push back the dates of his world tour due to the pandemic, like many other artists. All of the confirmed dates are now in 2022, and while many of the previously purchased tickets are still valid for the postponed dates, some shows, such as The Wiltern in Los Angeles, will have to be refunded. You can find more information and updates on local shows on his official website here.

Pop group McFly are making a return after signing their first record deal since 2009 with BMG. The band, which is made up of Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd, are set to release a new album this year, and we might be getting our first taste of their work later this month.

This comes seven years after their last single Love Is On The Radio. The album was scrapped so the band could join up with Busted to form the supergroup McBusted, which toured the UK and Ireland in 2015.

There was a period of time following this tour where we never thought we would seen McFly together again. Tensions formed among the group following side projects the members took on outside of the band. Tom and Dougie worked on a series of children’s books, Harry was on the 10th season of Strictly Come Dancing, which we went on the win and Danny wrote and produced music for other artists such as Rihanna and One Direction.

The band members spoke openly about how they felt jealous and left out when the others would do things outside of the group, saying; “A lot of those things became the unspoken issues.“ Speaking to the BBC about the rough patch the band experienced, drummer Harry Judd said: “We tried to talk it out a couple of times over those years and it just was very unproductive. So, yeah, there were moments where we talked about, ‘Do we need to get in a room with a therapist and document this?'”

The push the band needed to reunite was delivered by their long-time manager, Matt Fletcher. Matt booked the band to play in the O2 London last year, without telling the band. Tom added: “I think having a date in the diary that said ‘McFly at the O2′ just made us all realise we’d been stupid.” The show sold out in minutes. The band played their classic hits and it inspired them to release their demos for the album they had originally planned to release before joining McBusted. They were called The Lost Songs.

The inspiration didn’t stop there, the band has totally changed the way they make music. The new album began recording at the beginning of 2020, which they decided to compose and write together, rather than waiting for one person to bring the song to the group.

Tom Fletcher, who would have written a lot of songs for the band said to the BBC; “That really puts pressure on you as the writers, to come up with a hit that all your fans will love, but will also reunite you as a band and repair your relationships. We needed to get all of that out of the way first and come at it completely fresh.” Danny added; “It’s the first time I feel like we’ve all been part of it. We were all involved, split down the middle, and it was just such a collaborative, energetic process.”

Morrissey has revealed the date for his upcoming 11th album to be on November 17th, according to Manchester Evening News. Titled Low in High School, it will aim to capture the “zeitgeist of an ever-changing world.”

The former Smiths’ frontman has also signed to a new record label, BMG, as things didn’t go down too well with his last one, Harvest Records. In a highly melodramatic post for True to You, a Morrissey-devoted zine (one of the hundreds in existence), Moz claims that the label ‘botched’ up the release of his last album and that disagreements between himself and the label’s head Steve Barnett lead to his departure.

“Mutual mistrust exploded between Harvest and I, and with fashionable pessimism, the label boss yawned and ordered the surface smartness of dropping World peace is none of your business three weeks after its release. There, now! This would not have happened to the Teletubbies.”

The album will also be released in conjunction with Morrissey’s own newly-launched imprint, Etienne Records. Its recording was split between La Fabrique Studios in France and Ennio Morricone’s Forum Studios in Italy. The producer, Joe Chiccarelli, has worked with other impressive names like Frank Zappa, Beck, and The White Stripes.

No official tour dates have been announced yet, but Morrissey is set to play a massive show at the Hollywood Bowl in LA on November 10th. He was also the subject of a biographical film, England is Mine, directed by Mark Gill and starring Jack Lowden.
