After a five-year hiatus, Welsh indie rock powerhouses Catfish and the Bottlemen have teased their first piece of new music in a 6-second clip posted to their social media this week. The long-awaited snippet shows frontman Van McCann in slow motion as he walks down a hallway, shot in the band’s signature black and white aesthetic. Introduced by a whirring guitar line, McCann’s distant vocal can be heard singing the lyrics ‘Back to the graft again, just sold my voice for a long weekend”.

The teaser comes just a week after the Pacifier band revealed they are headlining Reading & Leeds Festival, while also teasing another upcoming show or potential tour that was announced through a photograph posted of a sheet of paper reading: “5:00pm, DOORS, 6:00pm, SHOWTIME”. Fans who are signed up to the band’s mailing list also received an email simply stating “Thursday February 22”, possibly hinting at further news surrounding live show dates and ticket releases.

Keeping their eyes peeled for further updates, fans have also spotted the same posters in and around Manchester, suggesting that the band could return to the city for a comeback show. Although the majority of posters have now been taken down, some were sighted most notably in the city’s Northern Quarter and opposite the O2 Ritz, a possible clue towards the hosting venue of the show.

Having not performed since September 2021, rumours began to circulate about the band’s future and whether they had split not long after their appearances at Reading & Leeds and outdoor gigs at Swansea’s Singleton Park and Neighbourhood Weekender in Warrington. Now returning as a headliner at Reading & Leeds, they will also be joined by other huge acts such as Liam Gallagher, Blink-182, Gerry Cinnamon, Fred Again... and Lana Del Rey. Blink-182 are gearing up to take the festival’s main stage after more than a decade, while Gallagher is set to perform ‘Definitely Maybe‘ in full, marking its iconic 30th anniversary.

This year’s string of live shows will be their first since the departure of guitarist Johnny “Bondy” Bond in 2022, and is expected to showcase brand new material, their first major output since their UK number two album ‘The Balance‘ in 2019, which followed their Top 10 debut 2014 platinum album ‘The Balcony‘ and their number one sophomore album ‘The Ride‘.

Following a storm of speculation, Johnny Bond released an online statement in 2022, announcing that he had in fact left the band as early as March 2021, merely playing with them as a session musician during the summer shows. He commented: ‘To put it simply, I feel that both the professional and personal relationships had become entirely dysfunctional.’

He added: ‘I certainly don’t want this post to be entirely negative … You have given me some incredible experiences that will stick with me forever … I sincerely appreciate you and feel incredibly fortunate to have experienced all of this together and met so many incredible people.’

The band is currently made up of Van McCann (vocals) and Benji Blakeway (bass), with a fresh new line-up of other members soon to be unveiled. For a chance to catch a glimpse of Catfish and the Bottlemen’s return, tickets for Reading & Leeds 2024 are on sale now.

The first revealed headlining acts to perform at next year’s edition of Reading and Leeds festival have been revealed, with Lana Del Rey, Liam Gallagher and Blink-182 set to feature. Catfish And The Bottlemen, Gerry Cinnamon and Fred Again complete the star-studded headliner line-up. Reading and Leeds have also announced a further four acts that will feature at next year’s event to complete the first wave of artist announcements: American DJ Skrillex, British rapper Digga D, singer-songwriter Raye and Canadian heavy metal band Spiritbox.

The festival is set to take place from 21 August to 25 August 2024 at Reading’s Richfield Avenue and Bramham Park in Leeds and will follow this year’s festival, which included headliners The 1975, Imagine Dragons, Billie Eilish and The Killers.

American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey is set to make her long-anticipated Reading and Leeds debut, as will London-based singer and DJ Fred Again. Pop-punk icons Blink-182 will return to headline the famed twin-venue festival for the first time since 2014, while Catfish And The Bottlemen are also set to return, making their first appearance at the festival back in 2021. Another headliner who also featured at the festival in 2021 is Scottish singer-songwriter Gerry Cinnamon.

Watch the music video for Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” below:

Liam Gallagher is yet another headliner making a return to Reading and Leeds, having also featured at the 2021 edition. The former Oasis frontman is set to play the entirety of Definitely Maybe to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the acclaimed album, with his appearance at the festival to be preceded by a tour dedicated to the anniversary of said album.

Festival Republic managing director Melvin Benn, the main promoter of Reading and Leeds festival among others, has said of next year’s event, “We are thrilled to announce the first wave of artists for Reading & Leeds 2024. I am very proud that the biggest artists in the world choose to play Reading & Leeds and to have three incredible UK festival exclusives – the electrifying Fred again.., a true generational talent Lana Del Ray and the legendary Blink-182.

Ben continued, “The iconic Liam Gallagher will return to play an all-time classic album ‘Definitely Maybe’ which will be a special moment indeed. We pride ourselves on nurturing artists from the early stages in their career, so to see acts like Catfish & The Bottlemen rising through the festival to headline for the second time is very rewarding. 2023 was a hugely successful year for attendance and sensational audience feedback, and we are eager to build upon this success even further at the UK’s biggest and best music festival.”

Watch the music video for Blink-182’s “What’s My Age Again?” below:

Pop punk veterans Neck Deep have released a new single and video for song “Take Me With You.” The band have also announced a massive headlining show at London’s Alexandra Palace.
The Wrexham based band have had quite the year so far, with a support slot for YUNGBLUD during his arena tour, releasing single “Heartbreak Of The Century” back in February and finding the time to add a show at this summer’s Download Festival as well. But the band now seem poised to take the scene for their own with their new single and first ever headline show at the prestigious Alexandra Palace in March.

It’s been a long time coming but we’re stoked to be finally headlining Ally Pally. We’ve always loved the venue, now it’s our turn for our biggest headline show. We’re expecting it to be the best Neck Deep show ever, & you wouldn’t wanna miss that would ya?

Speaking about the band’s alien-inspired new song, frontman Ben Barlow says the track was “literally as simple as: we should write a song about aliens called ‘Take Me With You.’ So conceptually and lyrically it was pretty straightforward. A few of us in the band are big UFO heads [particularly Seb Barlow, bass] so we had a lot of fun writing this one.”

The song is a playful and more light-hearted take on feeling fed up with the state of earthly situations that the band are noted for and Barlow has stated that the song owes a nod, at least in part, to Blink-182’s hit “Aliens Exist.” Singer for Blink-182 Tom Delonge has long been a vocal believer of UFOs and his company To The Stars made moderate news headlines after the recent US UFO hearings seem to confirm that UFOs, at least, may need to be taken seriously. Neck Deep promise however, that more meaningful songs are in the pipeline and will be released in due course.

It is perhaps surprising that, given the band’s more than ten years on the scene, Neck Deep have never headlined Alexandra Palace but that particular box will be ticked in March when the group finally play its hallowed halls as the top billed band. It is an indication at how much the band has grown in popularity over the years as the group get ready for what will surely be their biggest ever show.

Discussing the March 28th show, the band said, “it’s been a long time coming but we’re stoked to be finally headlining Ally Pally. We’ve always loved the venue, now its our turn for our biggest headline show. We’re expecting it to be the best Neck Deep show ever, and you wouldn’t want to miss that would ya?”

This is the second single off the new album. Happiness was released on July 30th. Band member Danny Jones announced the first single in an Instagram post, saying; “Making this album has been the most fun, open minded and exciting time we’ve ever had in the studio! So happy to have my boys back and making music. I’ve missed you lads @tomfletcher @harryjudd @idougahole”

This news comes after it was announced that McFly had signed their first record deal with BMG since 2009. McFly’s new album Young Dumb Thrills, will be released on November 13th. It is the first studio album from the band since they reunited after a seven-year hiatus. It has been previously reported that the band took the break after there was tension among the band members as they all took on solo projects.

Speaking to the BBC, band member Tom Fletcher said; “There was a strong possibility McFly would never happen again. We genuinely didn’t know how to get back on track.” Luckily, band manager Matt Fletcher booked a reunion gig at the 02 in London without telling the band, giving them the push, they needed to come back together.

Former Million Dead man Frank Turner has taken to Facebook today, to announce that he and his band The Sleeping Souls will be opening for Blink 182 on their UK tour. In the Facebook post, Turner said that he was ‘very pleased’ to be the guest of the ‘mighty’ Blink 182. The full details of the tour are at below.

Blink 182’s 7th album California was released last summer, and was the first project from the band since Tom Delonge’s departure, being replaced by Alkaline Trio vocalist/guitarist Matt Skiba. Meanhwile, Turner himself released his sixth album Positive Songs For Negative People back in 2015, but recently told NME that he has “A mountain of new material” to put towards a new album.

Turner did concede that he had a few reservations about the follow-up to Positive Songs For Negative People, saying that the LP “Felt like a sort of conclusionary statement. It wasn’t written that way, but looking back on it feels like that’s me wrapping up a certain era of my songwriting.” Turner elaborated by saying “Another way of saying it is I feel like I have the opportunity to go somewhere new and somewhere different at this point, so I’m thinking about doing something reasonably radically different next time round, but we’ll see. And of course, [since Trump won the election] I’ve been thinking about trying to react to the world as it is in 2016 perhaps a bit more openly in my art.”

Later this year, Turner will also oversee the release of his first film, titled Get Better- A Film About Frank Turner. The film was directed by Ben Morse, and documents a year on tour with Frank and the Sleeping Souls, although the band quickly came off the road, due to Turner ‘drinking, drugs and self-destruction’ during a ‘difficult’ year of his life. You can watch the trailer below.

Blink-182 have announced that they will be embarking on a ten date tour across the UK next July.

The pop-punk band from California will be taking to arenas in 2017, kicking off in Cardiff on July 3, moving onto the UK’s biggest cities including Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle to name a few, and ending at London’s O2 arena on the 19 July.

The trio, made up of Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and new member Matt Skiba, released their seventh studio album California earlier this year. The record was their first since guitarist Tom DeLonge quit the band and was replaced by former Alkaline Trio singer and vocalist Matt Skiba, who will be making his first UK appearance with the band in July. Bassist Mark Hoppus said in a documentary (via NME) that the musician was the most logical choice. He said: “The only person we talked about coming and playing our shows was Matt. The reception to Matt was amazing, overwhelming. People were chanting his name before we even came out and played.”

The band are likely to play a range of old and new songs, including ‘All The Small Things’, ‘What’s My Age Again?’ and ‘I Miss You’ as their most famous hits.

The new tour was announced on the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show last night (November 6). The band were hosting a takeover of the show at the time.

Priority tickets are on sale on Wednesday 9 November at 9am and general sale tickets will be available on Friday 11 November at 9am.

Tour dates are as follows:

03/07 – Cardiff – Motorpoint Arena
04/07 – Nottingham – Motorpoint Arena
05/07 – Leeds – First District Arena

After months of suspense, Blink-182 fans finally have the news they’ve been waiting for: a single is to be released within the next few weeks. Rumours began when a mysteriously untitled Blink-182 song was listed on radio industry’s website as a future release, then the news was quickly confirmed by KROQ radio station’s music director, Lisa Worden, who divulged to KROQ:

We can expect to hear the first song in April.

It’s indicative that Lisa Worden is considered by the band as a musical confidant – reportedly, she has heard every Blink album prior to its release. Unsurprisingly, Blink’s frontman Mark Hoppus gave Worden an exclusive preview of the band’s next album which is fully recorded, as reported earlier this month; read more here. The band have revealed that they’ve recorded almost 50 songs and are in the process of selecting which ones will make the album – and despite only hearing eight of them, Worden is full of confidence, saying:

I think any fan of Blink-182 is going to be ecstatic when they hear the music, I really do. It sounds like Blink-182 but it sounds like Blink in 2016. Lyrically, it’s clever. […] As a fan of the band for the last 20 years, I was so happy with what I heard. It was the band I’ve loved all these years.

Blink’s new material will be their first since 2011 album Neighborhoods, and will be the first to feature new guitarist Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, who joined following long-term member Tom DeLonge’s departure last year. Worden admitted she “didn’t know what to expect” of Skiba’s involvement, then went on to explain that in their new material, Hoppus takes the lead vocally and Skiba lends harmonies.

An official date or title for the new single is yet to be announced but if Worden’s shining review is anything to go by, the five year wait is sure to have been worth it.

After a tumultuous 2015 following long-term band member Tom DeLonge’s departure, drummer Travis Barker has announced that blink-182 have finished their next album. This news comes after Barker’s revelation that the band had scrapped 16 tracks and re-written the entire album in a bid to produce “the best material we’ve put out in years”. Barker also confirmed that within the coming months a single will be released, as well as a set of tour dates for this summer. The confirmation of an imminent new album release comes as no surprise after Mark Hoppus shared a clip of a recording session back in February.

This album will be the first to feature new band member and Alkaline Trio guitarist Matt Skiba, who joined the band in place of Tom DeLonge and already has noteworthy credentials having released eight studio albums with Alkaline Trio.

During an interview with LA’s Musink Music Festival, Barker said of Skiba’s involvement with the band:

It was great to have someone who wants to be in the studio all the time with us. It has been amazing. I think of the days of making great records, at least with blink – the proof has shown that it’s great when we’re all in the studio together. I think just sending tracks and sending ideas back and forth through the internet, it can’t be as collaborative as it should be. I love us all being in the studio and throwing around ideas and really collaborating.

blink-182 recently caused a stir when Travis Barker spoke to Youtuber Mr. Wavvy about the band’s rift with former guitarist DeLonge, citing creative differences and DeLonge’s supposed lack of co-operation as the primary reasons for the guitarist’s exit from blink-182, claiming DeLonge wanted to sound like “U2 or Coldplay”. You can read more here.

An official release date for the new album is still unknown, however fans are sure to be pleased by the assurance that new material is just around the corner – even more significantly given the band’s rocky (no pun intended) past year.

American rock band Blink-182 recently announced the departure of their frontman Tom Delonge due to ‘internal conflicts’ within the band and drummer Travis Barker has not held back when it comes to how he feels about his (ex)fellow band member and his intentions. (via NME)

In an interview with Youtuber Mr.Wavvy, Barker states how Tom Delonge wanted the group to sound more like U2 and Coldplay on their last album and he certainly didn’t hold back saying Delonge was “basically just tapped out of ideas” and was “being extremely difficult” before his departure of the band.

“Mark [Hoppus] and I never wanted to change,” he explained, saying that DeLonge wanted to switch-up Blink-182’s youthful sound. “The last couple of albums, Tom wanted to sound like U2, to record songs that basically sound like Coldplay.” The drummer made sure he conveyed his precise emotions towards the situation, defending the origins and unique sound of the band that brought them to their fame in the first place.

“For us, we were always like ‘Blink is Blink, man. We want to sound like f**king Blink-182,’” he continued. “That’s what side-projects are for. I love Blink for what it is. We love Blink and we love the sound of Blink.”

The band replaced Tom DeLonge with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba last year to continue the legacy of the pop-punk trio. Barker reffered to Skiba as “the only person that could fill in for DeLonge and that the new music they were in the process of recording for the new album “sounds different but still the same”. He describes their music as “eternal youth for a lot of fans” and is adamant for the band to stay true to their roots, he promises that the new material will still convey eternal youth and the true Blink 182 sound with a refreshing twist.

In an interview with NME last year, Barker admitted that things are obviously not the same but that it’s okay because the new music they have produced is just a development of the true Blink 182 sound: “Obviously, it’s Matt Skiba singing so there’s hints of Alkaline Trio, or at least Matt’s contributions to Alkaline Trio, mixed with my drumming and Mark’s voice and stuff. It’s really cool and I really love what we’ve done so far.”

So will the bands new material continue the Blink 182 pop-punk legacy or will 1/3rd of the original Blink 182 trio make all the difference to the sound they became well known for? Watch the full interview down below:
