A music video to David Bowie’s unreleased 1997 remake, ‘Repetition’ has been released for the first time. To create the video, ‘Repetition ’97’ depicts rehearsal footage from Bowie’s ‘Earthling Tour’, filmed by Tim Pope.

So, in creating the music video, Pope, from Hartford, Connecticut, produced offset, distorted edits of Bowie’s face. Plus, this is the 90’s Bowie, who flaunts a shock of red hair.

Elsewhere, an archive release called ‘ChangesNowBowie’, containing nine unheard tracks, has been announced for release, of which ‘Repetition ’97’ is one of the nine songs. So, back in 1996, Bowie and band members Reeves Gabrels and Mark Plati produced a number of acoustic sessions. They recorded the work in New York’s Looking Glass Studios.

Subsequently, the recordings were broadcast to the BBC in 1997. This marked Bowie’s 50th birthday. As a result, some thirteen years later, the release of ‘ChangesNowBowie’ marks the first time the work becomes available to the public.

Initially, the album was due for a Record Store Day release date, (April 17). However, the event has now been postponed until June 20. The collection will still be released digitally on April 17.

For a visual taster of what we’re talking about, check out the music video via the Youtube link below.

Recently, Bowie’s son Duncan Jones tweeted news apparently confirming an Aardman Animation based on Bowie, the makers of Wallace & Gromit. Duncan wrote: “Incredibly excited today to be able to announce the release of the FIRST EPISODE of the @aardman animation… BOWIE TV SERIES!”

Along with a thumbnail of Wallace as David Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’, was A URL link. However, all it gives is the classic ‘RickRoll’d’ footage.

Incredibly excited today to be able to announce the release of the FIRST EPISODE of the @aardman animation…

— Duncan Jones (@ManMadeMoon) April 1, 2020

“This is a very bad and mean joke because THIS WOULD BE PERFECT,” said one Twitter user. Another remarked: “You are literally the only person who could get away with this. You git!”

However, Duncan did imply that a Bowie TV project could be possible in the future. Jones affirmed: “We’ll make it up to everyone,”

The National Space Centre has collaborated with De Montfort University Leicester, Loughborough College and Leicester College in a sideshow exhibiting visual media inspired by Bowie.

Associate Professor for Student Experience at DMU, Paul McNicoll said in a statement, “We’re thrilled to team up with the National Space Centre for this exciting event, which will provide an invaluable platform for our Fashion and Textiles MA students,”

“Inspired by the Apollo missions and the work of David Bowie, they will be showcasing innovative designs across fashion, textiles, intimates, footwear and accessories.”

2016 has been the subject of much derision, especially for ‘taking’ many of our most beloved musical icons. However, it was a good year for Vinyl, with UK sales reaching a 25-year high, as reported by Fact Magazine.

Sales of the black plastic rose 53% from 2015 to shift 3.2 million albums in 2016. Indeed, the list of the best selling albums features two of those legends lost to the world in the last year, David Bowie and Prince. David Bowie led the pack with his last album, ‘Blackstar’, selling more than twice as many copies as 2015’s biggest selling vinyl album, Adele’s ’25.’ Despite this huge rise relative to previous years, however, vinyl still only accounts for 2.6% of overall music sales. CD sales and downloads, meanwhile, fell by 11.7% and 29.6% respectively. CD sales were actually led by a Mozart compilation last year, which you can read more about here.

Amy Winehouse’s final work, ‘Back To Black’, was the second best selling vinyl album, possibly spurred on by the DVD release of Asif Kapadia’s documentary in December of 2015. In third was the soundtrack for the film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, while Radiohead’s ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’, which was nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize, sold the fourth most copies. As for the rest of the list, it consists largely of re-issues from artists such as The Stone Roses, The Beatles and Prince. The full list is shown below:

1 – David Bowie – ‘Blackstar’

2 – Amy Winehouse – ‘Back To Black’

3 – Various Artists – ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Mix 1’

4 – Radiohead – ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’

5 – Fleetwood Mac – ‘Rumours’

6 – The Stone Roses – ‘Stone Roses’

7 – Bob Marley – ‘Legend’

8- The Beatles – ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’

9 – Prince – ‘Purple Rain’

10 – Nirvana – ‘Nevermind’

The vinyl revival has traditionally been associated with young hipsters who grew up with CDs and downloads and want to return to something more authentic. However, as can be seen above, it tends to be older albums that dominate the best selling vinyl lists and this has sparked some debate as to who is actually driving the vinyl renaissance. The Telegraph provided anecdotal evidence to suggest that, as might be suggested by the presence of albums like ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ in the list, older buyers are, in fact, equally, if not more, important. Nigel House, manager and co-founder of the Rough Trade records shops, claims, ‘I see those customers who bought the album originally when it came out and now can’t find them.’ However, an ICM study from April 2016, reported in What Hi-Fi?, suggests that the picture is a mixed one. 33% of vinyl records are purchased by the 25-34 age group, while 22% of buyers are aged 35-44. Only 16% of vinyl devotees in the survey fell into the 18-24 bracket. Perhaps the most interesting nugget from this survey was actually that vinyl sales seem to be working hand in hand with the rise of streaming; with 45% of those surveyed saying they had listened to the record on a streaming service before buying it on vinyl. Even more remarkably, 48% of those who had bought vinyl within the last month said they had yet to play the album – instead preferring to use it ‘more for décor’, according to What Hi-Fi?

David Bowie has dominated the UK charts following the release of his final studio album that was released on his 69th birthday (January 8th) two days before he sadly passed away. Last week, his album reached Number One on the UK charts and is expected to spend a second week at the top of the UK Albums Chart according to mid-week figures. (via WSJ)

The Official Chart Company has just announced that Bowie is currently over 28,000 chart sales ahead of Adele who recently released her latest album ’25’ which broke records globally. These two legendary artists are topping the charts right now with an increase in physical and digital sales of albums in general since 2014. Panic! At The Disco’s new album “Death Of A Bachelor” comes in at Number Three whilst at Number 4 is Bowie’s 2002 ‘Best of Bowie’ collection which moved up 14 places this week. At number 5 is Justin Biebers ‘Purpose’ that has fallen down from Number One.

Tony Visconti, Bowie’s long-term producer recently responded to the revelation of the late singer’s new album ‘Blackstar’ topping charts around the world including in the UK and the US. On Facebook, Visconti released a statement saying:

I am so proud of my dear friend’s accomplishment. One is just a number, but in this case he made an example of how true artistry and real quality can reach number one in the album charts.

He then went on to add:

I’m reaching out to the top artists of today. Don’t pander to the the illusion of commercialism — even the biggest hits of today’s sales pale by comparison of the sales of past decades. Do what you fucking want to do, not what you think you have to do.

It’s no surprise that David Bowie’s final album reached Number One globally considering he has influenced and inspired millions of people over the decades and at this rate, expect the legend to stay at number one for a very long time!

David Bowie has revealed he has a new album in the works called ‘Blackstar’. The album is penned for a release on 8th January 2016, the same day the legendary songwriter turns 69 years old.

‘Blackstar’ will be his 27th studio album after 2013’s ‘The Next Day’, which was released after a ten year gap in Bowie albums.

Earlier this month a snippet of the eponymous single ‘Blackstar’ was debuted as the title theme of Sky Atlantic’s new TV show ‘The Last Panthers’. The single is slated for a November 19th release date and the full run time of the track is said to top 10 minutes long. You can watch the theme for ‘The last Panthers’ and get a taste for the song below:

The album is reportedly 7 songs long, and totaling 45 minutes.

Talking to The Times, an insider claimed that it would be “an album of long, jazzy jams mixed with the kind of driving beat pioneered by Seventies German bands Can and Kraftwerk.” The album was also described as “completely bonkers” and that “Blackstar may be [Bowie’s] oddest work yet”.

Bowie reportedly recorded ‘Blackstar’ at the Magic Shop studio in New York, bringing in a number of local jazz musicians. However there has been no official confirmation of the Album from David Bowie’s camp.
