Birdy’s shows will first begin on May 3, 2022, in London, where she will play two back-to-back dates at the Eventim Apollo. She’ll then go across to Europe, with shows in Paris, Berlin and Madrid, wrapping up in Milan on 29 May 2022. She shared the news of the tour on her Twitter and various other social media platforms.

The tour as previously mentioned will support her latest record Young Heart. The album was released earlier this year on January 22 which included the popular single “Surrender”, which is the fifth song on the 16-track album. In an interview with Atwood Magazine she said “Young Heart is about heartbreak, internal conflict, fate, and new beginnings. This album has a 70’s Laurel Canyon feel to it, a lot of it was written in Topanga Canyon in LA, and I hope it takes listeners to that place.”

The imaginative video sees Birdy by herself in isolation, losing sense of time in an endless loop of clever footage played backwards. The talented singer-songwriter added the following message on her social on the premiere day: “This video was so special to create, we had the idea of making it in reverse which meant learning and performing the song backwards“. Since uploading yesterday, the video has already been played over 100,000 times, with 15,000 likes and rising, and is available to watch here.

‘Loneliness‘ takes a bold and mature step away from Birdy’s previous record Beautiful Lies (2016). Following a five year hiatus, the young artist is preparing the release of her new album that is a lot more personal and intimate, stripping back the big production and theatrical feel of its predecessor. Without losing those signature emotive melodies and atmospheric compositions, Young Heart is shaping to reflect a natural growth in both music and herself, with strong focus on personal experience and deeper emotions. 

Birdy talks about the new single: “I’m really excited to share ‘Loneliness’ from my new album Young Heart. When I wrote the song there were two characters in my head, a mischievous one and another who’s being led astray. It’s not so much about leaving someone but more of a love song to Loneliness.”  The track is co-written with the prolific Jamie Scott, having previously worked with the likes of Rag’n’Bone Man, One Direction, Rudimental, Justin Bieber, Jess Glynne, and many more. ‘Loneliness‘ is produced by James Ford of The Last Shadow Puppets, knows for his production work for Arctic Monkeys, Foals, Gorillaz, Florence and the Machine, and Depeche Mode.

Young Heart is Birdy’s fourth studio album, coming out ten year since her double platinum self-titled debut from 2011. Since then, the now 24-year old indie singer-songwriter released the Top 10 records Fire Within (2014) and Beautiful Lies (2016) before going on a prolonged break, spent in travel and seeking new inspirations.

Last November, the acclaimed singer came back with the EP Piano Sketches, a beautiful collection of four intimate pieces, before starting the promotional cycle for her upcoming record. Young Heart will feature a total of 16 tracks including her latest single ‘Surrender‘. For her upcoming album Birdy is collaborating with co-writers and producers Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, the renowned duo behind Kacey Musgraves’ critically acclaimed Golden Hour (2018), as well as the singles ‘Can’t Help The Way I Feel‘ by Lily & Madeline, and ‘Best Days‘ and ‘Castles‘ by Lissie. For her next project Birdy is embarking on a personal journey inspired by the likes of Jon Mitchell and Nick Drake, and stated:

“I’m so proud of this album, my last record was a lot more theatrical – there was a lot going on, it was a big production. Whereas this is quite stripped back – anything that didn’t need to be there, isn’t. There’s no decoration. This album just feels very personal – I’ve grown up a lot over the past five years and have experienced new things that have shaped my understanding of the world, but also of who I am as an artist. This album means a lot to me – I want to protect it.”

‘Surrender‘ is the first promotional single off Young Heart and premiered on 22 January with an intimate music video directed by the Sophie Muller herself on “the beautiful shores of St Leaonard’s” in West Sussex. A prolific director with extensive videography, Muller has produced an endless list of iconic videos such as Annie Lennox’ ‘Why‘ and No Doubt’s ‘Don’t Speak‘ and has worked with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Selena Gomez, Bebe Rexha, Shakespears Sister, Blur, and many more. Muller and Birdy have previously collaborated for ‘Skinny Love‘, ‘Wings‘ and ‘Words as Weapons‘.

Born Jasmine van den Bogaerde, Birdy started her music career very young and released her critically acclaimed self-titled debut in 2011 when she was only 15. Widely admired for her beautiful voice and gentle piano melodies, she quickly rose to fame and shared two follow-up records Fire Within (2013) and Beautiful Lies (2016) in quick succession before taking an extended break from music. Fresh off capturing the summer club playlists with ‘Never Let Me Down (ft. Tom Gregory)‘ and with millions of streams and monthly listeners, VIZE are aiming to finally break into the UK charts with a rework of a favourite local dance anthem that is just as relevant today as it was four years ago. The brand new remix launched yesterday with official anime-inspired video paying an interesting homage to the original music clip that featured Millie Bobby Brown from ‘Stranger Things‘ and ‘Enola Holmes‘.

In case you were wondering what “slap house” is, there are few extensive playlists available on Spotify and other streaming platforms that define the popular bouncy deep house sub-genre captioned under a somewhat made-up term to describe one of the leading trends in the EDM scene of recent years. One needs to go back to the summer of 2018 when Dynoro & Gigi D’Agostino smash hit ‘In My Mind‘ was playing in every corner of the world and stayed in the UK top 10 for 7 weeks straight. It paved the way to tracks like Imanbek’s remix of SAINt JHN’s number 1 hit ‘Roses‘ and R3HAB & GATTUSO’s remix of Radiohead’s iconic ‘Creep‘, and contributed to the rapid rise of electronic acts like VIZE.

‘Find Me‘ first premiered in November 2016 and captivated the nation with its emotive melodies and rhythm, following the success of Sigma’s golden-certified debut record Life that came out in 2015 through 3 Beat Records. The drum’n’bass duo consisting of Cameron James “Cam” Edwards and Joseph Aluin “Joe” Lenzie have been working on material for their second full lenght release but are yet to share any definitive information. So far this year Sigma premiered three official singles: ‘2 Hearts (with Sam Feldt ft. Gia Koka)‘, ‘Rest of my Life (ft. Shakira)‘ and most recently the team-up with John Newman for ‘High on You‘.

Meanwhile, Birdy has been working on her upcoming EP Piano Sketches expected on 6 November via Atlantic Records, set to feature original material with special significance to the young songwriter. Earlier in October Birdy released a beautiful and gentle live performance video of her latest minimalistic and intimate track ‘Island Lights‘.

The news for her EP were followed by another exciting announcement suggesting a full-lenght studio album coming out at the beginning of next year. This will mark the end of an almost five year gap since her last record Beautiful Lies came out in March 2016 to a predominantly positive reception from critics and fans.

Birdy also took it to Twitter to tease a potential single coming soon, supposedly before the release of Piano Sketches. The young artists shared a screenshot of her playing a piano, alongside what looked like lyrics off the new track: “I feel so lost sometimes / Trying to read between the lines“. Earlier today, an Instagram post confirmed the single is set to come out tomorrow accompanied by official video.

Her self-titled debut record from 2011 performed really well on the international charts ans currently holds a double platinum certificate in the UK and Australia. Birdy’s last release Beautiful Lies peaked at #1 in the Official UK Albums Chart and at #1 at the Billboard’s US Folk Albums Chart, cementing her name as one of the most exciting young folk/pop songwriters, and a talant to watch for the future.

During the lockdown period, Birdy has been releasing a series of intimate live performances, recorded from her home with no additional production. In case you have been missing her music and cannot wait for the new single premiere tomorrow, watch the re-imagined version of her cover of Cherry Ghost’s ‘People Helping People‘ taken from her debut record.

Born Jasmine Lucilla Elizabeth Jennifer van den Bogaerde, Birdy got noticed very early on after winning the Open Mic UK competition in 2008 only at the age of 12. Almost immediately she got signed by Atlantic Records and has since delivered three studio albums that earned her global fame and recognition.

Birdy’s songs appeared on the soundtracks of The Hunger Games (2012), Brave (2012), and The Fault In Our Stars (2014) to name a few. In 2014 she won Germany’s Echo Music Prize for Best International Rock/Pop Female Artist and Best International New Artists at the LOS40 Music Awards in Spain. In that same year she was also nominated for Best British Solo Artists at the Brit Awards.

At present, there are no confirmed dates for live concerts or festival appearances, but news are expected around the release of her upcoming EP and fourth studio album.

She has also announced October tour dates in the UK, with venues in Edinburgh, Manchester and London.

Birdy’s eponymous debut album was released back in 2011, and although most of the tracks on the album were covers of other songs, she says that she’s been working on new material that “come straight from [my] heart.”

Jasmine von Bogaerde – whose stage name arises from a childhood nickname – rose to fame aged just 14 when, following her victory in the talent contest Open Mic UK, she recorded a self-titled album of covers, including well-received versions of Bon Iver’s ‘Skinny Love’ and Cherry Ghost’s, ‘People Help The People’. ‘Birdy’ was a success, making the top 20 in the UK album chart, and reaching the top spot in the Australian and Dutch charts.

While many noted her voice – haunting and powerful, not least for a girl yet to sit GCSE’s – the all-too common ‘cover-album’ lumped her in somewhat with the kids spawned by Britains Got Talent and its ilk. The lacklustre careers of the majority of talent show alumni prove that a superb voice can only get you so far. Reviewing Bogaerde’s LP, some wondered if the safe-bet of the debut was a shrewd move – get them on your side by covering established songs while you’re still young enough to get away with it, then use the fame as a springboard for your ‘real’ career.

And it seems they were accurate, as ‘The Fire Within’ unveils Birdy as the all-important singer-songwriter, having written or co-written all 11 tracks, as well as featuring as a guitarist. If her songwriting proves as emotive as her vocals, this release could mark the teen out as one of her generations’ finest female artists.

‘The Fire Within’ is due for release on September 23rd.
