This year’s nominees contain a long list of British artists, including Adele, Dua Lipa, Glass Animals, Ed Sheeran, Genesis, Harry Styles, The Rolling Stones, Calvin Harris, Coldplay and FKA Twigs. Leading the way in nominations are Lipa and Sheeran who have received nine nominations each.

Lipa has been elected for Top Song Sales Artist, Top Billboard Global Artist and the coveted Top Female Artist award. The “Don’t Start Now” singer is up against Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and fellow Brit Adele for the award. Lipa scored nominations in six individual categories for her 2020 single “Levitating”. The track sired nods for Top Hot 100 Song, Top Streaming Song, Top Selling Song, Top Radio Song, Top Billboard Global 200 Song and Top Radio Song. The Grammy-award winning artist has also been nominated for her collaboration with Sir Elton John; “Cold Heart (pnau remix)” is up for Top Dance/Electronic Song. Sir John took to Twitter to confirm the news, and within the post the famed musician expresses his excitement to receive the nomination.

Sheeran has also received numerous nominations for his hit single, “Bad Habits” which has incurred nominations in four categories including Top Selling Song, Top Radio Song, Top Billboard Global 200 Song and Top Billboard Global Song. The 31-year-old singer is also up for Top Song Sales Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Billboard Global 200 Artist, Top Billboard Global Artist and Top Male Artist. Also up for the Top Male Artist are Canadian artist Drake, Justin Bieber, Lil Nas X and The Weeknd.

The 2022 nominees for Top Soundtrack contain some of this year’s most popular films and TV series. Included within the nominees is the animated action series Arcane: League of Legends, Grammy-nominated duo Bones UK and legendary recording artist Sting are amongst the talent-filled track list. Also up for the accolade is the soundtrack to the film Sing 2, included within the tracklist are several beloved songs including “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Sir Elton John, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” performed by U2 frontman Bono and the film’s title song and original composition “Your Song Saved My Life” performed by U2. Also included within the nominees are Disney musical Encanto, Tick, Tick…BOOM! and the film adaption of the musical In the Heights.

Another headlining act poised to win big at this year’s ceremony are British rockers Glass Animals. The Oxford formed band is up for Top Duo/Group and Top Rock Artist, and in both categories the band are up against American rock band Imagine Dragons. Glass Animals secured further nominations in two categories with their top five hit “Heat Waves”, which received two nominations for Top Streaming song and brand new category Top Viral Song.

The awards ceremony will be broadcasted live on NBC and will be available to watch via the streaming service Hulu and with a YouTube TV subscription.

While Styles was unable to attend the event himself, his award was collected on his behalf by Addison Rae who also presented the award which was for Billboard Chart Achievement. Styles reached number 1 on the Billboard Charts with his recent album ‘Fine Line,’ which is now at number 19, it has been on the chart for 43 weeks. Despite reaching number 3 in the UK charts and charting for a total of 44 weeks so far, ‘Fine Line,’ has not matched the success of his debut ‘Harry Styles,’ which was a UK number 1 and charted for 60 weeks.

‘Watermelon Sugar,’ has, in UK terms, been Style’s most successful single from the new album. The song has reached number 4 in the UK charts and the official video has 130,211,896 views on Youtube. ‘Fine Line,’ has generally gone down well since its release on 13th December 2019 and NME described it as combining the ‘nostalgic sound,’ of his debut combined with ‘soaring pop sensibilities.‘ His debut album ‘Harry Styles,’ was released following the announcement of a hiatus by his X Factor group One Direction and the leading single ‘Sign of the Times,’ was a UK number one.

Like many artists who have released albums this year or in the winter months of 2019, Harry Styles has found the coronavirus outbreak having a big impact on his ability to tour in support of the album. The List reported that Styles was forced to postpone the whole tour which was planned for 2020, cancelling dates where he was due to perform in ‘South America, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand,’ due to ‘the ongoing threat of Covid-19.’  However, fans have some reason for optimism as the tour has been rescheduled and he is due to perform at the O2 in London on the 23rd of March 2012.

Fans from other parts of the country will be pleased to hear that the rescheduled tour dates also include other major cities in the UK, as well as the extensive European and American legs. This may of course be dependant on the ongoing pandemic which continues to restrict life in the United Kingdom as well as in other countries around the world and there is currently no sign of the South and Central American or Australian and New Zealand dates being returned next year. Nonetheless, fans across the globe can remain hopeful that they will see the album live in 2021.
