This week’s chart sees a battle of four musical titans who are in a fight for the number one album. Sir Elton John, Duran Duran, Lana Del Rey and Biffy Clyro have all recently released albums. As reported by OfficialCharts. com, now all four artists are neck to neck with only 4,500 chart sales separating them. Sir John’s new album The Lockdown Sessions was released on 22nd October 2021 and is currently leading the race. The singer’s album is full of musical talent and includes Sir John’s recent number one duet with Dua Lipa “Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)“. If the album’s chart sales remain high Sir John will receive his eighth number one album. The singer’s last number one album entitled Good Morning To The Night reached number one in 2012.

Currently closely behind Sir John’s 32nd studio album is Future Past by Duran Duran, the 80’s hitmakers released their new album on 22nd October 2021. It is their first album to be released via music conglomerate BMG and their first release in six years. The group’s new album could potentially be their highest charting release in 38 years. The band’s only number one album Seven And The Ragged Tiger reached number one within 1983.

American songstress Lana Del Rey is currently third to the number one spot. The singer’s eighth album entitled Blue Banisters was released on 22nd October 2021 via Interscope and Polydor. The album was sired two singles, the title single “Blue Banisters” was released on 20th May 2021 and “Arcadia” dropped on 8th September 2021. The “Video Games” singer has achieved five number one albums within the UK charts, her latest being Chemtrails Over The Country Club.

Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro round off the top four with their new album The Myth Of The Happily Ever After. The album was released on 22nd October via 14th Floor and Warner and has sired three singles. The group started work on their ninth studio album last year and announced that they were working on new material in August 2020. The band have accumulated three number one albums throughout their long career. Their last album A Celebration Of Endings was released on 14th August 2020 and became their third number one album.

Elsewhere within the charts, new releases are set to possibly rival the top four. The 40th-anniversary rerelease of Tattoo You by The Rolling Stones was released on 24th October and was available in many special edition formats. Also Included within the new releases is Top Of The World by prog-metal band Dream Theatre. The virtuoso group released their fifteenth studio album on 22nd October 2021, the release marks their first album to be recorded at their music studio.

After years of anticipation, Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro have released their Biblical new record. Entitled A Celebration of Endings, Biffy’s new release charged onto streaming platforms last night (14th August 2020).

Just like the poetic album title suggests, A Celebration of Endings has a mantra of getting up and facing whatever life throws at you. Frontman Simon Neil concurred with this idea, relaying that “The thought behind this whole album is that change is not a bad thing.”

Composed of eleven songs, A Celebration of Endings is the band’s ninth album and follows the 2016 released Ellipsis. A record of high extremes, A Celebration of Endings runs across an emotional tightrope of self-assured defiance, helpless woe and optimistic hopefulness.

As high hats shake with anticipation, and a staccato electric guitar flashes, ready to pounce, Biffy launches into North of No South. The opening track immediately starts an introspective dialogue, with frontman Neil asking “Have you ever been to a place in which you couldn’t leave/But of course, you couldn’t stay?”

Aggressive in the best way, Weird Leisure is an ode to the classic, heavy Biffy Clyro we all know and love. The menacing bassline loops incessantly, whilst the strong drums shake you from the toes up.

Tiny Indoor Fireworks highlights the album’s paradoxical nature. Whilst its backing track flourishes with high energy, Neil’s heart-wrenching lyrics like “This weight is crippling me” and “Summit the ocean, scale the lake/And I’ll pray for the better days” keeps the listener guessing.

Biffy flips this vibe on its head and slides into Space. A slow tempo track, Space is a rock ballad that echoes Biffy’s emotive, slower tracks like Many of Horror. The album reaches its climax at Cop Syrup, an epic song that knocks the wind out of you and leaves you already wanting more.

Recently Simon Neil broke down the monumental record with NME. When speaking on the album, Neil said “the metaphor of the album is finding your true north.
