It comes after the band recently shared their new album ‘Futique’ which got huge praise from both critics and fans. Joining them for this one-off outdoors show will be Nothing But Thieves, who will return to the stage after the completion of their world tour ‘Welcome to the DCC’, as well as support from Don Broco, Marmozets, and Wavves.

In a new statement, the band said, “Finsbury fuckin’ Park – see you in July. This is going to be so special, don’t miss it…”

The Finsbury Park show will also come following a huge tour by Biffy Clyro in celebration of their album ‘Futique‘ which will take place at the start of the new year. They will play arenas across the UK and Ireland, kicking off the tour in Belfast on January 9, and continue with shows in Dublin, Nottingham, London and more. Joining them for these shows will be special guests Soft Play and The Armed.

The tour will start at Belfast’s SSE Arena on January 9 before continuing the next night at the 3Arena in Dublin. From there, the shows will continue at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham and The O2 in London on January 12 and 14 respectively, followed by further stops in Birmingham, Manchester, and Cardiff. The tour will then head to P&J Live Venue in Aberdeen on January 20, and will finally finish January 21 at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow.

The band rose to fame as one of the UK’s most successful rock bands. Their breakthrough first came with album ‘Puzzle‘ (released in 2007), which entered the UK Top 10, and was followed by ‘Only Revolutions’ (released in 2009), which ended up being a multi-platinum album that earned both BRIT Award and Mercury Prize nominations. They also achieved their first UK number 1 album with ‘Opposites’ (released in 2013), and then achieving the same thing for their albums ‘Ellipsis’ and ‘A Celebration of Endings’.

Known for their explosive live performances, they have headlined major UK festivals, including Reading and Leeds.

This track is the latest to be released from their upcoming album ‘Futique’, after dropping ‘A Little Love’ earlier this year, which soared to the top of the UK Official Vinyl Singles Chart in June.

Frontman Simon Neil explains the concept of the new album in a press release: “It’s an exploration of ideas, objects or relationships that exist across time – we’re never aware when we do something for the last time, and there’s a beauty and sadness within that. What will be your Futique?”

‘Hunting Season’ is a defiant response to the wave of online criticism the band has endured.  The opening lines of the track echo this sentiment clearly: “Sneering at the scene from above/ ‘Cause that’s the safest distance to judge/ You think you’re so special/ Is there something I don’t know?”

In an interview with Kerrang! Neil adds: “Sometimes I go on mad internet sweeps and I’m always surprised by how confident everyone is in their opinion. The song is about: if you put your head above the parapet someone’s going to fucking shoot you down. It’s the invisible judges of your life and what you do. Everyone’s got an opinion, even your friends and family will say the wildest shit to you. People can really make you unsure of who you are with just one passing comment. So with me trying to find my fortitude again, and find the excitement of it, I needed to talk about that aspect.”

He also admits he’s guilty of partaking in the trend, saying: “I judge people, sometimes I’ll read a headline and tell someone, but I didn’t read the article and I’ve passed a supreme judgement without knowing any of the details. It’s about trying to not be that person, but of course we all fucking are.”

The release of ‘Futique’ will mark their 10th studio album, a milestone they’re celebrating with a massive UK and Ireland tour, set to take place next year.

The tour opens with a headline show at Belfast’s SSE Arena on January 9, followed by a performance at Dublin’s 3Arena the next night. The band then travels to Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena on January 12, before hitting London’s O2 Arena on January 14.

Biffy Clyro will continue their run with back-to-back shows in Birmingham (January 16), Manchester (January 17), and Cardiff (January 18). The tour wraps with a January 20 stop in Aberdeen, before concluding with a triumphant finale show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on January 21.

Joining Biffy Clyro on tour will be Soft Play, the energetic English punk-rock duo formerly known as Slaves. With four studio albums to their name, including the 2024 release ‘Heavy Jelly’, Soft Play have built a reputation for their high-octane live shows and gritty, Clash-inspired sound.

Also on the bill are The Armed, a boundary-pushing American hardcore punk collective known for their anonymity and explosive genre-bending style. Their forthcoming album ‘The Future Is Here and Everything Needs to Be Destroyed’ arrives August 1.

With their first release since their 2021 album ‘The Myth Of The Happily Ever After’, the Scottish rock trio, comprised of vocalist Simon Neil, drummer Ben Johnston and his twin brother, bassist James Johnston, have unveiled their latest track ‘A Little Love’, a powerful new record that explores the complexities of love and heartache.

The band first introduced the track to fans in May during an intimate, secret show held in Glasgow, where they performed under the alias ‘Skrewfish’. Following that, they brought the track to a wider audience with a high-energy set at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool. After weeks of mounting excitement, the song was finally made available on streaming platforms last Wednesday, 11 June, marking its official release.

The music video for ‘A Little Love’, directed by Piers Dennis and choreographed by Olivier award-winning Steve Hoggett, draws inspiration from Marina Abramović’s 1977 work ‘Relation In Time’. We watch as the trio hold each other, pushing their bodies into intricate and dynamic positions. It visually emphasises the emotional and physical connections among the band members, underscoring the song’s themes of unity and affection.

With more music reportedly on the horizon, ‘A Little Love’ could signal the beginning of a new chapter for Biffy Clyro, potentially paving the way for the announcement of their highly anticipated 10th studio album. Although fans don’t yet have much information, a post on the band’s Instagram in January simply captioned “Back at it” hints that more is yet to come.

Currently, the band is touring, playing a string of shows at festivals across Europe, including Rock For People in Czechia, and Nova Rock in Austria. They will hit Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage on 27 June.

The Seattle-based quartet, formed in 1992, will embark on a full North American and European tour, celebrating their return to the stage and the release of new material. Their comeback has been eagerly anticipated by fans who have long hoped for a revival following their sporadic reunions over the years. Sunny Day Real Estate played a pivotal role in shaping the second wave of emo music. Their debut album ‘Diary‘ (1994) is often regarded as a defining record of the genre. 

Though predominantly associated with the US emo movement, Sunny Day Real Estate gained a cult following in the UK. Tracks such as ‘Seven‘, ‘In Circles‘, and ‘Pillars‘ resonated with British fans, many of whom discovered the band through underground scenes, alternative radio stations, and record stores specialising in indie and punk music. The band’s influence was also felt in the UK’s post-hardcore and indie-emo scenes in the late ’90s and early 2000s, with acts such as Biffy Clyro preivously citing them as an inspiration.

The band has recently re-emerged with new material, notably the single ‘Novum Vetus’, their first release in a decade. Originally conceived during the 1997 sessions for ‘How It Feels to Be Something On‘, the band revisited and recorded the track at Seattle’s London Bridge Studio, resulting in a seven-minute composition that blends their signature sound with contemporary elements. In addition to the single, the band undertook a live re-recording of their seminal 1994 debut album at the same studio. This project captures the raw energy of their early work while reflecting the band’s evolution over the past three decades.

While there has been no official word on additional UK shows, the overwhelming demand could potentially lead to more dates being added. The Outbreak Festival is an annual music festival renowned for celebrating underground music, with a strong emphasis on hardcore and punk genres. As of now, tickets for both the London and Manchester events are still available for purchase. Given the festival’s popularity and the high-profile lineup, it’s advisable to secure tickets promptly to avoid missing out.

Formed in 1995 in Kilmarnock, Scotland, Biffy Clyro consists of Simon Neil on lead vocals and guitar, alongside twin brothers James Johnston on bass and Ben Johnston on drums. The trio initially gained attention with their debut album ‘Blackened Sky’ in 2002, which showcased their raw energy and unconventional songwriting. With their reputation for delivering unforgettable live experiences, these Eden Sessions performances are shaping up to be a highlight of the summer for rock fans across the UK.

Victorious Festival 2024 will run from August 23-25 with Fatboy Slim and Snow Patrol co-headlining the event’s opening night. Jamie T and Biffy Clyro will then take the headlining spot for Saturday and Sunday night respectively. The 2023 instalment of Victorious Festival featured another star-studded line up as the likes of Mumford and Sons, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Jamiroquai and Ellie Goulding were amongst the big names of performers.

The festival also houses a comedy stage, and at next year’s event, leaders of the industry Russell Howard and Frankie Boyle will be headlining on Friday and Saturday night at Southsea seafront.

One of the most successful dance artists of all time, the Grammy and Brit award-winning DJ and producer Fatboy Slim will bring a memorable Friday night opening party packed full of hits. His attendance of the festival had previously been teased as a sign saying “Praise You”, in reference to his hit song of the same name, appeared at the event’s location.

Empire State Bastard, began by Neil and ex-Oceansize frontman Mike Vennart in 2023, cannot be further away from the music Neil makes with his other, highly successful band-Biffy Clyro. Described as extreme grindcore within the metal genre, Empire State Bastard also features legendary metal drummer Dave Lombardo and bassist Naomi McLeod as touring musicians. The band released their first single, “Harvest” in March with Neill stating that the music is an itch he’s been needing to scratch for some time now.

No stranger in recent times to embracing a more heavier sound not usually associated with Biffy Clyro, Neil provided guest vocals on Architects 2021 album For Those that Wish to Exist-belting out an aggressive turn on the song “Goliath”. Many fans were surprised at the performance, with Neil showing a side of his skill that was not obviously apparent. For Empire State Bastard, Neil and Vennart intentionally set out to produce something that is as different from Biffy Clyro as possible.

Speaking about the new project, Neil said, “we wanted to push that extremity and get ourselves into the right head space for it. I know I’ve been needing to make a record like this for a long time. This is where I’m almost trying to be provocative.” 

On the 2nd of June, Empire State Bastard released only their second single, “Stutter” which will feature on their debut album Rivers of Heresy. Vennart, the lead song writer for the band, stated, “I set about making the most fucking poisonous vile music I possibly could, just unabridged hatred in musical form.”

The band’s first two singles have featured artwork from Radio 1’s Rock Show host Daniel P Carter and the album is set to also be designed by Carter-giving the album art a decidedly surreal quality that is sure to match the tone of the music.

Simon Neil and Biffy Clyro have been a hugely successful, having released nine studio albums to date with six of them debuting in the top five album charts in the UK-making them one of Britain’s most successful artists in recent years.

Debuting the band live in March, Empire State Bastard have played only a handful of shows thus far but are gearing up for the festival season-appearances at Download and Hellfest among others. Find tickets here. The album, which is available for pre-order here, will be released on 1, September.

It’s only been slightly more than a year since the band released their last LP, For Those That Wish To Exist, last February. The fact that the band spent seemingly all of their lockdown experience powering through new tunes may be the reasoning behind that. Once LP9 was finished being recorded at home, many fans, and clearly band members, were left somewhat wanting. Music like this doesn’t easily lend itself to being recorded in isolation through a set of desktop speakers. So, as soon as the opportunity rose, the band got back into the studio. Produced by Architects’ Dan Searle and Josh Middleton, with vocalist Sam Carter providing additional production, the new album sees the band back in the studio again. According to a press release, going back to the tried and tested dynamic makes the album feel more “free, playful and spontaneous”, or so says Dan Searle.

In a conversation with NME regarding the new album, Sam Carter explained, “It’s always important to change and to challenge yourselves as musicians. We’re very proud of the legacy of this band but we don’t want to just look back and think ‘OK that was cool’. We’ve always got to try and reach for bigger, bolder, more excitement. I’m always eyes on the next prize. How can we be better? How can we make the records more exciting? Where should we take the sound of the band? We are always looking for that Eureka moment.”

 Off the back of their tour in support of For Those That Wish To Exist, the group have grown more accustomed to their fame and seems far more comfortable on more significant stages, so the band’s upcoming tour with Biffy Clyro couldn’t come at a more opportune moment.

Biffy Clyro recently completed their “Fingers Crossed Tour” in 2021, these dates were more of a celebration that we were actually allowed to go outside again (remember that??), so the group took to a handful of venues generally about ¼ the size they’re used to, to play mostly songs from A Celebration Of Endings, and its companion album The Myth of the Happily Ever After. The upcoming tour will see the band return to the standard way with more appropriately sized venues, and (probably) even more energy.

Neil has released a statement concerning the news, “To receive this doctorate is an honour I could never have expected. To receive it in Glasgow, a city that has featured so long and so supportively in the band’s story, is the stuff of dreams. I am also proud to be connected to such a forward-thinking institution as Caledonian University, and accept this honour gratefully.”

Also set to receive an honorary degree from Glasgow Caledonian University are eight more noted figures. Joining Neil at the ceremony next week is Julia Gillard, the former Prime Minister of Australia will be awarded a Doctor of Laws in recognition of her work in gender equality. Similar to Neil’s degree, Ricky Ross will also be given a Doctor of Letters for his contribution to Scottish music and culture. The third Doctor of Letters degree is to be given to Johnny Benjamin MBE for his commitment to suicide prevention. The fourth and final Doctor of Letters degree will be bestowed to Bernadine Evaristo OBE for her work within literature and human rights.

Also receiving honorary degrees are Vicky Wright MBE, Ian Urquhart CBE, Daniel Schwartz and Major Patrick Burgess MBE. During the upcoming ceremony, those in attendance will be treated to inspirational and moving speeches from each honouree, the ceremony will also include a selection of messages from the University’s leadership team. The schedule will include speeches from Vice Chancellor and Principal Professor Pamela Gillies CBE and Chancellor Dr Annie Lennox CBE.

Professor Pamela Gillies CBE FRSE, Principal and Vice-Chancellor has also commented on the upcoming ceremony, “Graduations also afford us the opportunity to welcome distinguished individuals into our GCU family as honorary graduates. This year we are privileged indeed to honour many worthy recipients. They all share a deeply held core set of values that align with our own. They authentically live these values and are an inspiration to us all.”

Earlier this month, Biffy Clyro announced the details for their upcoming UK and Ireland tour, the arena tour will commence this year with a set in Leeds on 5th November 2022. The group will be joined by Brighton rockers Architects, the metalcore band formed by twins Ben and James Johnston will support Biffy Clyro throughout the tour. The “Mountains” hitmaker’s tour is scheduled to include a hometown show, the band will perform at Glasgow’s Ovo Hydro on 6th November 2022. After five more sets, Biffy Clyro and Architects will conclude the tour with a set at Bournemouth’s BIC on 15th November 2022.
