Parklife Festival has revealed its official line-up for 2024, with major chart-toppers Doja Cat, Disclosure and J Hus set to head to Manchester this summer. Celebrating its 14th year, the iconic UK festival will return to Manchester’s Heaton Park between June 8th and 9th, with a melting pot of different artists curated by Mancunian club night mammoth The Warehouse Project.

The raucous weekend first came about in 2007 after a group of students decided they wanted to put together their own rave, aptly named the Mad Ferret Festival. The event kicked itself into gear in Platt Fields Park, Rusholme, but by the early 2010s it had relocated to Heaton Park and christened as Parklife. Since then, the event has witnessed a huge surge in popularity and has been crowned the UK’s largest metropolitan music festival, growing from a one-day event in a field to over 160,000 ticketholders rushing to north Manchester every year.

After today’s announcement, superstar rapper Doja Cat has no doubt cemented herself as the queen of the 2024 festival season, boasting headline slots across the globe for Coachella, Rock in Rio and Open’er Festival. The polarising singer and internet personality is most certainly set to bring the heat ahead of her European leg of The Scarlet Tour.

Festival-goers can also expect performances from powerhouse vocalist Becky Hill, DJ and singer Peggy Gou and Canadian producer Kaytranada, as well as unmissable sets from Anne-Marie, Nia Archives, Fourtet, Barry Can’t Swim, ANOTR, Camelphat, Rudim3ntal, Digga D and Sugababes.

Welcoming a multitude of different genres, the festival has since steered away from indie bands headlining in recent years, predominantly featuring dance, electronic and hip-hop acts to cater to its everchanging audience. This year is predicted to mark a new era for the festival, showcasing a brand new stage, jaw-dropping production, state-of-the-art tech and fewer line-up clashes.

Early Bird tickets sold out rapidly in December 2023, but an exclusive 2024 presale will be open from 10am on Thursday 25th January to anyone who has registered. Registration closes the night before at 6pm on Wednesday 24th January. Three Mobile customers will be able to purchase Saturday and Sunday tickets or full weekend tickets 24 hours before other customers on Wednesday here. Tickets including VIP access and coach travel are also available.

All remaining tickets will go on general sale from 10am on Friday 26th January which you can purchase from Ticketmaster. Both day and weekend tickets will be available either to pay in full or by deposit and signing up to a payment plan.

For those not wanting the party to end, Parklife’s official afterparties, ‘Afterlife’ have been unveiled, including an after-hours set from Kaytranada. You can grab tickets here.

The 2023 Brits Awards took place last night, Saturday 11th February, at the London O2 Arena. Hosted by Mo Gilligan, this marks the Brits 43rd edition of the ceremony. Many winners took away this years Brit award, which was designed by Nigerian-born, London-based artist Slawn.

Harry Styles was the star of the night, taking home four Brits awards. He won the awards for Best Pop/R&B Act, Artist of the year, Song of the year for his number one single ‘’As it was’’ and Album of the year for his third studio album Harry’s House. During his acceptance speech for Artist of the year, Harry Styles shouted out his former One Direction band mates, sending fans into a craze with more hope towards a reunion.

Styles also spoke about how he was aware of his privilege for winning the award and shouted out some British female artists. The Brits voting academy faced backlash as Mabel, Florence and the Machine, Becky Hill, Rina Sawayama and Charli XCX were all eligible to be nominated for the 2023 Artist of the year award, however none of the talented women in music made the cut.

‘’I want to thank Niall, Louis, Liam and Zayn, as I wouldn’t be here without you. I’m really, really grateful for this, and I’m very aware of my privilege up here tonight. So this award is for Rina, Charli, Florence, Mabel and Becky, thank you so much.’’

During the acceptance speech, Wet Leg lead singer, Rhian Teasdale, said,

The Splendour Festival dates back to 2008 when it kicked off as a two-day event with performances from the likes of Ocean Colour Scene, Kate Nash, Rufus Wainwright and Paolo Nutini. The festival has grown exponentially since then, and the last Splendour in 2019 was the biggest to date, with 25,000 in attendance to see headliners Manic Street Preachers, The Specials, Rag’n’Bone Man and All Saints.

In an interview with the Nottingham Post, Splendour organiser Anton Lockwood explained that the festival would comply with the most up-to-date public health guidance. He said “We are working on the best information we have. Obviously there will be more detailed work on guidelines and protocol for events like Splendour. We are monitoring that and contributing to that and as those guidelines come out we’ll obviously follow those and abide by the legislation and all the guidelines. We are able to go ahead thanks to the amazing work of everyone getting the vaccine out there and a shout out to Nottingham Professor Jonathan Van-Tam (Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England) – I think he is brilliant – we will listen to his advice but we want to have a big party.”

Lockwood added “We want people to come out and see some great live music – that is what we are trying to achieve. I am really excited to be going to a gig to be honest and go and see some live music. We obviously want it to be safe, obviously we are going to follow the legislation and the guidelines that are in place that people far more expert than us are developing.”

Richard Ashcroft‘s headline set at Splendour was set to follow two sold-out comeback gigs at the London Palladium in May. The Wigan vocalist – who is currently working on an acoustic greatest hits album – returned to action last month with a cover of John Lennon’s 1973 track Bring On The Lucie (Freda Peeple).

Fellow Splendour headliners Supergrass, who reformed in 2019 after a nine-year hiatus, will eagerly await a return to the stage this year. The indie veterans had been due to tour the United States, Australia and Europe last year – topped off by a fifth scheduled appearance at Glastonbury – before all their live commitments were scuppered by the pandemic. The Oxford rockers, who produced one of the defining singles of the 1990s in Alright, last released an album in 2008 (Diamond Hoo Ha).

1980s pop icon Rick Astley continues to defy expectations (most recently by covering Slipknot and The Strokes on his TikTok account) and has enjoyed a steady period of critical success ever since his well-received 2016 comeback LP 50. The Lancastrian singer’s appearance at Splendour will compliment seventeen separate UK tour dates scheduled for this year, culminating in a gig at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on November 12th.

Becky Hill‘s performance at Splendour should coincide with the release of her as-yet-untitled debut studio album this summer. The former The Voice UK contestant, who scored a 2014 number #1 single with Gecko (Overdrive), most recently provided vocals for Bruno Martini and Magnificence’s January release Wake Up With You.

Other acts confirmed for Splendour 2021 include British pop-rockers The Vamps, Heaven Is A Place on Earth singer Belinda Carlisle, London indie outfit Sleeper and up-and-coming Nottinghamshire artist Tori Sheard. Tickets for Splendour are available through the festival website.

With the UK missing out on their festivals this year, McDonalds has decided to put on their own live music virtual festival, ‘I’m Loving It,’ with a super line up from UK music artists including, ‘Jess Glynne, Becky Hill, Stormzy, Craig David, Lewis Capaldi, Olly Murs and Kaiser Chiefs.’ The virtual music party is set to take place between Friday 30th October until Sunday 1st November.

The event is going to be free to view via the, ‘My McDonalds App,’ with family sessions being available on the family website. The UK has missed their live music scene this year and with the restrictions getting tighter again due to the pandemic, the popular fast food chain has put together a weekend of live music to lift the spirits of music lovers.

The festival will open on Friday with live performances from female pop stars, ‘Jess Glynne’ and ‘Becky Hill.’ Saturday will see pop band, ‘Kaiser Chiefs,’ take the centre stage along with, ‘Craig David,’ and ‘Olly Murs.’ The show go out with a bang as pop star, ‘Lewis Capaldi’ an rap legend ‘Stormzy’ headline the show.

This is going to be a treat for Stormzy fans as he had to cancel his ‘Heavy is the Head’ tour in March due to the pandemic. His rescheduled tour is set to take place in the UK in April 2020.

Make sure you don’t miss I’m Lovin’ it Live! Tap ❤️ and we’ll Tweet you a reminder just before each show is about to start. pic.twitter.com/gF7hFrilbv

Michelle Graham-Clare who works for McDonalds in the VP Food and Beverage, Product Development and marketing sector for the company said, “We know the new normal is tough on everyone. Hopefully our week of good things and good times offers something for everyone from families looking for fun to music fans missing the gig scene.” – The Mirror

In addition the fast food chain is going to be hosting football sessions with legend Peter Crouch as well as lioness England footballer Lucy Bronze. They are also planning a reading club with pop star children’s author Tom Fletcher.

The meals that will be distributed in the coming weeks will support Marcus Rashford’s campaign for ‘Free School Meals,’ in the UK as families struggle with the ongoing pandemic, which the footballer has been urging the government to extend over the half term period.

McDonalds have been slated this year as the Bank of America have stated they are, “tired of their own cooking,” -Business Insider.
