Craig David and Robbie Williams have become the latest acts to be announced for the third annual BBC Music Awards which will be held at the ExCeL, London on 12th December. The pair join previously announced performers The 1975, Emile Sande, the Kaiser Chiefs, Zara Larsson, Lukas Graham on the bill for what promises to be an exciting night. Ferne Cotton returns to host the awards and will be joined this year by Claudia Winkleman, with BBC Radio 1’s Gemma Cairney acting as the backstage presenter.

David reacted to the news with delight, according to the London Evening Standard, saying, ‘It’s been an incredible 12 months and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than performing at the 2016 BBC Music Awards!’ Robbie Williams expressed his joy as well, telling the BBC he was, ‘really excited to be performing at the 2016 BBC Music Awards. It’s going to be a brilliant night so come along to the ExCeL London or watch on BBC One and join the party!’ Robbie clearly hopes this appearance will be only the beginning of his on stage comeback, having recently spoken of his wish to headline Glastonbury once more. He is quoted in Gigwise as politely requesting that, ‘I would like my moment on the Pyramid Stage in front of a record-breaking amount of people please.’

It’s fitting that the two were announced together as their recent career trajectories are remarkably similar. Both men have returned to the forefront of the music scene this year, with David’s latest album, Follow my Intuition, reaching number 1 earlier in the year and Williams’ new release, The Heavy Entertainment Show, widely expected to be number 1 this week. The pair have also recently received awards; Craig David was named ‘Best Male Act’ at the 2016 Mobo Awards while Robbie Williams won the Icon Award at the Brits and was presented with the gong by his former bandmates Take That. However, Williams ended any speculation about a possible 2017 reunion on the 25th anniversary of their debut album. He revealed to the BBC, ‘We unfortunately couldn’t get our diaries to match. We will be doing something but I don’t think it’ll be next year.’

This new comes days after Michael Buble, who was one of the Acts originally confirmed last week, withdrew from the Awards following his son’s cancer diagnosis. The news was announced by Steve Wright on his BBC Radio 2 Show earlier this week (per BBC), with BBC Music director, Bob Shennan offering sympathy in a statement which read, ‘We send Michael and his family our very best wishes.’

The awards on offer at the ceremony include British Artist of the Year, Introducing Artist of the Year, Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year, Radio 2 Album of the Year and a Song of the Year Award voted for by the public. After the initial line-up was announced last week, the BBC promised four more acts would be confirmed prior to the night, so there should be at least two performers still to be revealed. Watch this space for further news and updates.

Tickets for the event are priced between £42 and £62 and are available from the BBC website here.

Michael Buble has had to pull out of a planned performance at the BBC Music Awards after his three-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer.

Buble said he and his wife, Luisiana Lopilato, had put their careers on hold in order to devote their time to taking care of their little boy. The ‘Haven’t Met You Yet’ singer has cancelled his forthcoming appearance at the annual event, held in London on December 12, in order to be with his three-year-old boy Noah and his family following the announcement that the toddler is battling the disease. The Canadian singer was due to perform at the awards at the ExCel London on December 12 alongside Kaiser Chiefs, Emeli Sande and Lukas Graham.

Buble and his wife of five years, Luisana, made the announcement about their elder son Noah’s health on the singer’s Facebook page. They said: “We are devastated about the recent cancer diagnosis of our oldest son Noah who is currently undergoing treatment in the US. We have always been very vocal about the importance of family and the love we have for our children. Luisana and I have put our careers on hold in order to devote all our time and attention to helping Noah get well.

“We have a long journey in front of us and hope that with the support of family, friends and fans around the world, we will win this battle, God willing.”

As well as the BBC Music Awards, Buble is set to host the Brit Awards in London on 22 February (17) and the Juno Awards on 2 April (17). Currently, he is still billed to appear at both.

BBC Music Director Bob Shennan said: “We send Michael and his family our very best wishes.”

According to the Daily Mail, during a recent appearance on ITV’s Loose Women, Buble praised his children for giving him ‘perspective’ and said that he was unaware how much he would enjoy being a father. He said: “The only regret that I have in my life is that I took this long to have kids, because I had no idea the perspective it would give me.

“I had no idea how much I would love being a dad. That’s it, that’s all I care about… I love them too much probably, if there was such a thing.

“It’s made everything else so insignificant, moments that I was afraid of and moments that would overwhelm me have now become a joy because I’ve realised how not serious they are compared to what is really important, which is Noah and Eli and that’s it.”

Continuing the recent trend of widespread award ceremonies and nominations being announced, it is only right that we cover the BBC Music Award shortlists as well!

All details on timings, tickets and dates can be found directly on the BBC website here.

The awards ceremony is set to take place in just over a week on the 10th December.
Bob Shennan, controller of Radio 2 had this to say on the ceremony:

“What a year it’s been for music. Our shortlists represent the artists who have created some of the biggest and most impactful music moments of the year. I’m looking forward to the big unveiling in Birmingham next week.”

Legendary British rock icon Rod Stewart has announced that he will be performing at the BBC Music Awards (via the Evening Standard). The Grammy Living Legend played at Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park earlier this year and got a crowd of 50,000 roaring in the popular festival in the middle of London. Now he is set to rock 11,000 fans in Birmingham on Thursday 10th December.

In a statement with the Evening Standard he said:

“I’m really looking forward to performing at the BBC Music Awards. Birmingham is a terrific city and what a perfect way to round off the year with my loyal UK fans!”

2015 has been a standout year for the two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee who at the age 70, reunited with his Faces bandmates for a one-off charity show, was sampled by rising rapper A$AP Rocky and released his 29th studio album “Another Country”.

Joining him on the line-up is the “Hold Back The River” Hitmaker James Bay who recently has been riding on the success of his number one debut LP ‘Chaos and the Calm’ and his performance at Glastonbury. Bay announced the exciting news via a selfie on Twitter showing how excited he was to be performing at the iconic music award show which was captioned: “Also so excited to announce that I’m going to be performing at the <s>#</s>BBCMusicAwards in December!!”

The award show will be hosted by Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton and will take place from 4-6pm on Thursday 10th December. It will be broadcast the same evening on BBC One, Radio 1, Radio 2 and bbc.o.uk/music. The award show has revealed a new award this year – BBC Live Performance of the Year – which will be awarded to the artist or band who has delivered the most iconic BBC Music live moment of 2015 which is also voted on by the BBC Music panel.

Another act that has been recently announced are The Shires, who’s album “Brave” made chart history as it became one the only UK Country acts to ever make the Top 10 meaning that they were named as one of the musics biggest successes this year. These three acts will join the likes of Ellie Goulding, Hozier, Little Mix, Jess Glynne, OMI, Mumford & Sons and popular boy band One Direction, plus BBC Introducing Artist of the Year, Jack Garratt. 2015’s amazing music success will be celebrated by performances from this stellar line up alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra to finish off the year with a bang.

“We had such a blast last year so I can’t wait to get back on stage and relive this amazing musical year of 2015.”

Both Jess Glynne and OMI have expressed their excitement at the opportunity to perform at the ceremony, with Glynne saying that:

“I was there last year at the inaugural awards, performing with Clean Bandit, and it was a great night, with a brilliant performance from Ed Sheeran among my personal favourites.”

OMI similarly expressed his excitement:

“I’m extremely excited as usual. I love being in the UK and feeling the British energy. I can’t wait to perform for my fans.”

The BBC Music Awards 2015 will be broadcast on both BBC Radio and BBC One on the TV; so even if you can’t get tickets you won’t miss a minute of the ceremony. With the confirmed artists performing already offering a mouth watering event, the prospect of the list of performers growing further is certainly an exciting one. It offers to be an event worth keeping an eye on.
