Jeremy Vine has sent a message to Baxter Dury after the musician revealed he was issued a driving ban – all thanks to the BBC Radio 2 host catching him on his phone whilst in traffic!

Speaking with Huw Stephens on BBC 6 Music, Dury revealed that he was caught scrolling Instagram, by cycling enthusiast Vine, while in a traffic jam.

Dury – son of punk rock pioneer Ian Dury – was promoting his upcoming album ‘allbarone’ when he recalled the coincidental story, saying: “Do you know what? This is a tragic story, but I drove there for the first half of making the record and then lost my license.

“I got caught in a traffic jam, and Jeremy Vine took a film of me looking at Instagram, which he deserves to, I’m not arguing about it.”

Aware of running into Vine in the BBC studios, Dury then joked: “Shouldn’t probably say that publicly, he’s probably in the other room, isn’t he?”

Vine has become infamous on social media for his habit of recording and sharing footage of London drivers, looking to raise awareness for the problems cyclists face in the city every day.

When drivers sound their horns because they’re just furious at the world. pic.twitter.com/CtonC97ROm

— Jeremy Vine | Here, on Tiktok, Insta & Facebook (@theJeremyVine) April 22, 2025

Well Baxter Dury has now got his response from Vine. Although he stopped short of apologising to the musician, Vine did share slight sympathy with the ‘Miami’ singer. Speaking to the Mail, Vine said: “This is very unfortunate. I would like Baxter to know that I love his dad’s music.

“I’m afraid mobile phone use in cars in London, particularly the posher parts, is an absolute curse. So I am quite tunnel-visioned about it. We have 1,700 road deaths a year. Sorry to be serious about it. Best wishes to Baxter.”

Vine has revealed recently that he has called it quits on the videos after receiving widespread backlash. Speaking on Twitter, he told he followers: “I’m stopping my cycling videos. The trolling just got too bad. They have had well over 100 million views but in the end the anger they generate has genuinely upset me.

Small announcement. I’m stopping my cycling videos. The trolling just got too bad. They have had well over 100 million views but in the end the anger they generate has genuinely upset me. pic.twitter.com/QWArHDPQwV — Jeremy Vine | Here, on Tiktok, Insta & Facebook (@theJeremyVine) April 27, 2025

“Some of the biggest videos were actually about the smallest incidents, like someone turning left in front of me. People are happy to discuss it and I actually think that we’d be safer if we all understood each other. People are going to drive 4x4s in Kensington and whatnot but they need to have a bit of care for me on a bicycle.

Although it may be a funny story and everyone can have a laugh about it, Vine does raise important points considering the deaths and dangers on London roads.

In other news relating to Baxter Dury, he recently announced his new album, ‘allbarone’, will be released on September 12. A UK tour will accompany the new album, head to this website to gain access to his mailing list for first access to tickets.

The festival is scheduled to take place on 31 August 2024 and will once again turn the city centre of Manchester into a sprawling hub of psychedelic and alternative creativity. Iconic music venues such as YES, Canvas, Albert Hall and 02 Ritz will act as temporary stages, effectively allowing the areas immediately surrounding Oxford Street to be turned into temporary festival grounds. Circle Square, if aligning with last year, will act as festival hub and will be the place to go for merch, various band meet and greets and a diverse variety of street food stalls.

Last year’s edition saw American psychedelic rock giants The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Allas-Las perform, along with Sorry, The Murlocs, Ezra Furman and Los Bitchos. There were also several film screenings, including cult psychedelic classic Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and band films Chunky Shrapnel and Dig!. This year’s film screenings have yet to be announced, as have many more acts and artists.

Baxter Dury, son of legendary The Blockheads lead singer Ian Dury, is set to headline the festival with his wholly unique take on music, consisting of unapologetic, almost spoken word delivery backgrounded by post-disco and indie electronica beats. Also headlining will be Southend based group The Horrors, with a style that consistently merges gothic and psychedelic rock with post-punk and shoegaze.
