El Paso’s post-hardcore stalwarts At The Drive-In have treated their fans with some extra good new today, with the announcement that their Diamante EP will be made available across all streaming services. You can check out the tracks below.

The project was previously only available on 10″ vinyl, and were recorded over the summer of 2017, in a studio in Hamburg, Germany.

This extra dose of music comes just months after the release of ATDI’s first album in over 15 years, In.ter.a.li.a, which dropped in May 2017, and garnered much acclaim.

The band have consistently been touring since again since 2016, and recently confirmed themselves as headliners of the 2000 Trees Festival at Upcote Frarm in the Cotswold Hills, with the band due to play on July 12th.

ATDI also enjoyed a stint of UK arena show at the end of last year, touring with Royal Blood, and are looking forward to embarking on their own headline tour of these shores, due to begin in March. The band will be ably supported by both Death From Above 1979, and La Butcherettes. Tickets are available on the band’s official site, and you can see the full list of dates below.

“Since we started this touring run in March of 2016, we’ve been so excited to share all the new music we had put together,” says drummer Tony Hajjar.”We were lucky enough to release our full length Inter•al•ia and now our new EPcalled Diamanté. Looking forward to sharing all this music with you and to be playing with DFA 1979 and Le Butcherettes.”

Masterson is a longtime member of the Church of Scientology, and the Huffington Post reports that the investigation into the actor- which has been underway since March- has “inexplicably stalled”, despite “overwhelming” evidence against him.

Bixler-Zavala has been vocal on Twitter on the matter for a long time, and the troubling impact of Masterson’s alleged actions has made it’s way into ATDI’s music.

Noise Rock titans-and Royal Blood’s favourite band-Death From Above (formerly Death From Above 1979), have announced today that they will be hitting the road for a UK tour with Hardcore icons At The Drive In in March 2018.

The Canadian rock duo have recently released their third studio album Outrage is Now!, whilst their future tour-mates have also made a return this year, dropping the long-awaited in.ter.a.li.a, their first album for 17 years; 2000’s seminal Relationship of Command.

DFA’s drummer and vocalist Sebastien Grainger recently spoke to NME about the band’s long hiatus (somethign they and At The Drive In have in common), and the modification to their original name.

“We’ve realised that Death From Above is just us, plus a couple of pieces of gear[…] It’s not this separate third entity that is mythologised or whatever. We didn’t talk for five years but the band continued to exist and kept working in the background.

“When we started working on [previous record] The Physical World, we treated the band as this other thing that we had to respect. Now we don’t – we don’t respect it any more!”

“A couple of years ago we dropped it [the 1979] from our tour posters. No one noticed so we kept doing it.”

Sebastien added: “The final straw was when I was making the art for our single ‘Freeze Me’. I wanted to write the name out in ice, so I went on Amazon and ordered an ice cube tray in the alphabet. It came and there were no numbers. That was that.”

The rumour mill is up and running again today, this time in regards to a potential new album and tour from Queens of the Stone Age. The speculation follows an interview in Rolling Stone, featuring experimental rock supergroup Gone Is Gone.

The band is fronted by Mastadon bassist and Vocalist Troy Sanders, but also includes At the Drive-In drummer Tony Hajjar, multi-instrumentalist Mike Zarin, and QOTSA guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen. The interview in Rolling Stone was predominantly about Gone Is Gone’s background and first LP, but also caught the eye due to something mentioned by Sanders, alluding to each member returning to their parent project for new music in 2017. “I like to think none of us needs [Gone Is Gone], but we all really want this band,” said Sanders. “When that’s the mentality, this is special to the four of us. Otherwise, we wouldn’t dedicate the first week of 2017 to working on this band […] For example, Queens of the Stone Age, Mastodon and At the Drive-In have all been recording, and we all have new records coming out this year.”

New music for Mastadon and ATDI is not necessarily new information, with the latter having dropped ‘Governed by Contaigons’, their first single in 16 years towards the end of 2016, as well as signing up for a multitude of festival dates over the coming months. However, new music for a band the size of QOTSA, following the momentum of 2013’s outstanding …Like Clockwork, naturally pricked the ears of many fans. Sanders confirmed this by saying “We’ve all been extremely busy writing and recording, and we’re about to get super busy touring the world. So I believe we’re all fulfilled to a certain degree with all we have going on.”

Whilst his fellow guitarist has been enjoying his time in Gone Is Gone, QOTSA frontman Josh Homme has been exceptionally busy over the last year or so, having collaborated with Lady Gaga on her latest project Joanne, as well as with the iconic Iggy Pop on Post Pop Depression.

In July 2016, Homme did take time out of his busy schedule to confirm that he and the rest of the Queens were “locked in” to be recording a new album, with Van Leeuwen even going as far as to discuss the LP’s potential sound, telling NME “We’ve already started talking about what we’re gonna do next for the next Queens record, there’s tons of ideas that are bouncing around […] We’re going to do something before the end of the year, as far as recording goes. We’re excited to get back together to follow-up …Like Clockwork, which was a really, really big record for us, personally… It was a big record for us because it was the hardest record to make. And we’re trying to not do that again. We just want to keep things simpler and try that, I guess.”

At The Drive-In have today confirmed that the rest of their North American tour is set to be cancelled; this follows At The Drive-In having cancelled their two last concerts in Washington DC and New York respectively.

However whilst fans are obviously disappointed, they can’t complain too much as At The Drive-In confirmed that the reason for the cancellations are injury to lead singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala’s vocal chords, so it makes sense to not risk any further damage.

At The Drive-In released a statement on Facebook reiterating this:

Apologies to all our fans in NYC that were coming to our show. Cedric has a health concern with his vocal chords and can’t perform this evening. It is not possible to play without furthering his injury.

Thank you for your support!

ATDI has a goal to be a band for a very long time and we don’t want to impede that in any way.

We will be back!

Tickets can be refunded from point of purchase.

Although fans are somewhat irritated as At The Drive-In cancelled their last concert on the 15th June in Washington DC due to Bixler-Zavala’s vocal chords, yet they still pushed forward with this gig in New York’s Terminal 5 venue. Drummer Tony Hajjar responded to this when talking to the crowd:

We feel horrible. Obviously we set up, we’re here. We sound-checked, and we couldn’t get to it and it’s not plausible for us to do a show. And this is New York, this means the world to us. Terminal 5 means the world to us.”

This is At The Drive-In’s comeback tour, having made sporadic appearances at festivals over the years since their first break up over ten years ago so the news that the rest of their North American tour is cancelled will be hugely disappointing to fans as this will have been the first chance for a lot of fans to finally see them live.

Details on when new music is set to be released are still not known; however in an interview at fuse.tv, band members Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Tony Hajjar had this to say:

“Aside from right after the split-up and the time that it took to heal and understand where we were all coming from, we’ve always done that, sent stuff back and forth. It’s an ongoing part of our narrative that we really try and celebrate. There’s never been an end goal in mind, besides trying to participate in each other’s lives. The upside to that is that now, as we do start to think more results-oriented — like, how about an album? — we have tons of material to pick from.”

The good news for fans is that the band have seemingly put aside differences and seem to have fallen back in love with the band that brought them all stardom and the platform to perform:

“We came together in this small town where I still live,” says Rodríguez-López. “We found each other, and were passionate about what we were doing — and in a very positive way, we didn’t give a fuck. We did all these years of work where we played to five people. It didn’t matter if there was one person or five thousand [watching us]. It was about the fact that we were together, whatever we were doing. And we’re doing it.”

Some news that I am very excited to bring to you, one of my personal favourite bands and critically acclaimed rockers At the Drive-In last night took to social media to upload a mysterious 15 second video teaser.

Your browser does not support iframes.

Whatever exciting news this is will be announced tomorrow on the 21st January 2016. If it’s new material then it would truly be remarkable, At The Drive-In have had many numerous internal struggles between band members, most commonly founding members Omar Rodriguez, Cedric Bixler and Jim Ward. So for them to have hopefully put aside their differences in order to produce some new music is certainly news worthy!

Last month we did an article discussing the fact that At The Drive-In were set to reunite and perform live at Ohio’s Rock on the Range Festival (see the article here) and whilst that does seem set to continue; the prospect of new material was completely unheard of. I say that the chances of it being new material rather than a new tour is because during the 15 second teaser the music played in the background is completely unfamiliar; it’s not a snippet of an old song but rather something new.

At The Drive-In haven’t released any new material for pushing 16 years now, so the anticipation is very real! Hopefully we’ll be able to bring you an article tomorrow detailing the exact news that At The Drive-In are hinting at! Until then, enjoy At The Drive-In’s last released album ‘Relantionship of Command’.

A few days ago original alternative rock band At The Drive-In announced their first live performance since 2012 with an appearance at Ohio’s Rock on the Range Festival (details on the festival can be found here).

At The Drive-In are set to be one of the many headliners of the festival, which also includes Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shinedown, Five Finger Punch Death, Megadeth and many many more.

At the Drive-In’s last group performance was in London three years ago, headlining the Brixton Academy in the summer of 2012 having also performed at both the Reading festival and Leeds festival. Members Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler both announced that those gigs would be their very last as At The Drive-In.

However both Omar and Cedric have promised such things throughout their musical career, At The Drive-In was where they both first experienced widespread success; however they only ever produced three critically acclaimed albums ‘Relationship of Command’, ‘Acrobatic Tenement’ and ‘In/Casino/Out’. The band initially broke up in 2001 with Omar and Cedric wishing to expand and diversify the music that they produced, they felt that they had out grown alternative rock and At The Drive-In.

After that Omar and Cedric went on to create the hugely successful progressive/latin rock band The Mars Volta and Jim Ward, Tony Hajjar and Paul Hinojos created the alternative rock band Sparta.

Jim Ward was interviewed by El Paso Times last week and was unable to confirm whether or not he would be performing on stage with the rest of At The Drive-In. If he ends up not performing with them it would certainly be a massive disappointment, as Ward’s backing vocals and guitar playing are as important to the sound of At The Drive-In as Rodriguez-Lopez’s intrinsic guitar playing and Bixler’s impassioned vocals.

Listen to my personal favourite At The Drive-In song below:

Lopez last spoke of the band in 2013, when talking to Rolling Stone magazine:

“We don’t talk about it that way. It’s there; we have possibilities. Everybody’s doing something right now. Cedric has a record coming out, Tony and Jim in Sparta are doing stuff. We’re just trying to feel again when the moment opens up where nothing is forced and nothing is an obligation.”

At The Drive-In are unfortunately a musical cliché in that they always produced critically acclaimed and genre defining music but only for a short length of time before arguments within the band tore the music apart. Even to this day arguments and differing opinions continue, especially shocking with Bixler and Rodriguez-Lopez who have recently disbanded The Mars Volta apparently due to lead guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez not being committed enough, see more here.

I remain a massive fan of their work and hope that they perform a few more times together and put all past bitterness behind them, but who knows what will happen!
