English singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer James Blake has announced the release of his new single as well as the release date for this upcoming album.

The London born artist has released his new single entitled ‘Say What You Will’, the track was released yesterday via Republic Records and Polydor Records. The singer’s new single is already gaining traction through radio play, the track was recently played on the Annie Mac show, broadcasted on BBC Radio 1. The presenter made the song the show’s ‘Hottest Record in the World’, a title previously held by many successful records.

Blake has taken to his Instagram to thank fans and listeners for their support concerning his new single.

The single’s release was also accompanied by a thought-provoking music video, the video features special star guest and fellow producer, American singer-songwriter Finneas. The 23-year-old artist is the brother of recording artist Billie Eilish with whom he has collaborated musically. Musical talent clearly runs in the family as Finneas has won eight Grammy awards, including such awards as Producer of the Year and Album of the year. He also won an award for his work on his sister’s 2019 debut album entitled ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’, for which he won the Non-classical award.

Blake has described the track’s meaning in the single’s press release, the singer relates the new track to finding his personal peace within his life and subsequent success, “The song is about finding peace with who you are and where you’re at regardless of how well other people seem to be doing. Comparison really is the thief of joy,” The song’s following lyrics also carry such themes with a tone of modesty, conveying a sense of tranquillity over the growing pressures of life. “I can find my way with no superpowers/ I can take my place without becoming sour/ I might not make those psychopaths proud/ At least I can see the faces of the smaller crowds,”

Along with the release of the singer’s new album’s lead single, Blake has also confirmed the release date of his new album. The artist’s fifth studio album entitled ‘Friends That Break Your Heart’ is set to be released on 10th September 2021. The album’s press release provides the following notes regarding the artwork, describing it as “a visual encapsulation of the emotions brought forth throughout the body of work,” The album’s artwork showcases the work of artist Miles Johnston, a UK artist known for his illustrations, predominately achieved using graphite and oils. The artist has taken to his Twitter to announce his excitement over his recent venture with Blake.

Blake has also teamed up with other artists on the musical aspect of the new release. The album will feature further collaborations with other performers, including Monica Martin, SwaVay, JID and American singer-songwriter and Grammy-nominated artist SZA. The singer’s new release will follow up on his last studio album, ‘Assume Form’, released in 2019 via Polydor Records. The fourth studio album gained an impressive accolade for the artist, Blake was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album for the 2020 Grammy Awards and received both critical and commercial success for its release.

The multitalented artist is no stranger to Grammy nominations; the singer was nominated for Best New Artist in 2014, which was awarded to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The singer’s debut album, ‘James Blake’ was released in 2011 to critical acclaim, siring three singles and two more released from the album’s deluxe edition. His debut release was also nominated for an award, the album gave Blake his first Mercury Prize nomination in 2011 and was also shortlisted for the Brit Award Critics Choice Award. Blake would go on to win a Mercury Prize when he was again nominated in 2013 for his second studio album ‘Overgrown’ released the same year.

Blake is set to go on tour this year in support of his new album, where the singer will perform in 15 different cities, the tours dates and locations have been announced by the artist. Unfortunately for UK fans, the tour will take place in North America, but with September around the corner, UK fans will not have to wait long to hear the artist’s new material.

Sam Fender, the North Shields singer-songwriter has just released his latest single premiered by BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac as Hottest Record In The World, ‘Seventeen Going Under’ off his upcoming album of the same name. With the track, he seems to be picking up from where he left off on his 2019 debut album ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ giving us an electrifying coming-of-age track drawing inspiration from one of the singer’s idols Bruce Springsteen.

The new single dives into political observation and social commentary looking into the pains of growing up in a small town whilst also focussing on the central motif of friends and family. The Geordie artist appears to be taking a trip down memory lane, writing a song from his perspective a decade ago. With all the stress of COVID and the world almost literally pausing over the last 18 months, he used the time to look inwardly and open up about feelings that he’d long since locked away.

The song will feature as the title track on Fender’s new album ‘Seventeen Going Under’ set for release on October 8 via Polydor Records. The follow-up to ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ was produced alongside his longtime friend Bramwell Bronte, and will see Fender “turning the mirror on himself; his adolescence and the trials and tribulations of growing up,” adding that it “is a coming of age story. It’s about growing up. It’s a celebration of life after hardship, and it’s a celebration of surviving.”

He then goes on to say “It’s a relatable journey that careers through an often misspent youth, navigating tumultuous relationships with both friends and family, and trying to figure out what comes next and how to get there. North Shields is the ever-present backdrop for these deeply personal vignettes of a young life travelling breathlessly from nought to sixty, hauling on the brakes and zipping back again from where he started. Over the course of the record, these stunning songs chronicle all the cherished memories, tricky encounters, and events that Sam cannot unsee.”

After two weeks of cryptic Youtube clues, Dodie (Dodie Clarke, singer-songwriter and online figure) has revealed her debut album Build A Problem, due for release in March 2021. Her online advertising started with a series of short and irreverent Youtube videos, where at the end of each one, Dodie would reveal a letter that she had knitted while she was chatting to the camera. The end result spelt out Build A Problem. After fans had guessed the album name, she revealed it in full today (October 19), also premiering first single, ‘Cool Girl’ as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record.

Build A Problem is Dodie’s first album, but it follows a series of carefully crafted EPs with cult followings: Intertwined, You and Human. She is famous for her acoustic style and her cuttingly honest lyrics about everything: love and loss, mental health, growing up alongside the internet, sexuality. ‘Cool Girl’, the first single from Build A Problem, is no different.

‘Cool Girl’ is three minutes of Dodie’s trademark intimacy with her fans; she lays herself bare, insecurities, vulnerabilities and all, in few words and a succinct and catchy chorus. She talks candidly with Annie Mac about how the sentiment of the song – making oneself a little quieter, a little more aloof and ultimately less engaged – is not something that she wishes to promote, but just to acknowledge how people go through it sometimes.

‘Cool Girl’ was a last-minute addition to an album that has been in the works for some time; Dodie wrote it in lockdown and recorded it as some of the restrictions eased up. It is stripped back but stylish, and for fans it will likely feel like the natural progression of Dodie’s ever-growing musical talents. The harmonies are harrowing. You can watch the lyric video below.

The honesty of ‘Cool Girl’ anticipates the rest of Build A Problem, Dodie declares. She told the Metro: ‘I was very unsure of who I was and I was trying to figure it out in music … so I think it’s quite unstable of an album – but it’s definitely honest.’

On Annie Mac’s Future Sounds, she speaks about her mixed feelings about being honest, and having to be honest in interviews and other promotional material throughout the press cycle of Build A Problem. Make no mistake – Dodie sounds extremely excited to be releasing an album, but she is clear about its mental challenges and the care that needs taking with some of her subject matter. Her fans will undoubtedly be grateful though; Dodie has always had a remarkable way of just sharing reality.

The rap artist has had an incredible year, and shows no signs of slowing down. So far in 2020, he has released five singles, starting with his most popular song to date, ‘Frontline’, followed by ‘Hit The Block’, ‘Betty’, ‘Bang Out’, and, the one and only, ‘My Family’.

This evening, the music video for the new single came out, and it has already reached over 8,000 views. The black and white feature shows both Pa Salieu and collaborator BackRoad Gee performing the song outside, surrounding by friends, most of whom are wearing masks.

Pa Salieu spent the first eight years of his life in Gambia, before moving to the UK city of Coventry and breaking into the music scene in 2019 at just 22-years-old. Fans have seen his unique sound develop as he shares new releases such as ‘Dem A Lie’, produced by Coolie. He has been a part of many collaborations, including Kida Kudz, Ms Banks, Juls, and Ambush Buzzworl.

Dream pop artist Beabadoobee released her new single ‘Worth It’ yesterday, 8th September, making this the third track to be heard from her debut album ‘Fake It Flowers’ which she is currently working on. The song is written solely by the singer, under her real name Beatrice Laus, and produced by Pete Robertson (Big Society, Chloe Moriondo).

Speaking to Annie Mac on her BBC Radio 1 show ‘Future Sounds’, Beabadoobee explained the song’s meaning, saying “I guess it’s just, you know, embracing your mistakes, and the idea of the song is actually quite sad, but it makes you wanna dance and it makes me wanna dance every time I listen to it. I feel like it’s just embracing the honesty within the music, and kind of just getting over it; about past mistakes and how you can learn from them.” The song premiered as the Hottest Record in the World on the show.

Beabadoobee describes this song as one of her favourites from the album, as it follows ‘Care’ and ‘Sorry’, shared earlier this year. The former holds a lot of similarity to ‘Worth It’, both with strong indie-rock drumbeats and the singer’s soft-yet-confident vocals. The standout song out of the trio so far is ‘Sorry’, with its charming intro sounds of the artist setting up for the take, moving smoothly into stripped back guitar and close sounding vocal, before surprising the listener with a distorted guitar and drum heavy finale.

The new single comes just two days after the announcement that Beabadoobee will be taking her album on tour next year in September and October 2021. The shows will be held around the UK, in cities including London, Glasgow, Dublin, Manchester, and Bristol.

‘Fake It Flowers’ is due for release on 16th October 2020 via Dirty Hit Records, with a title inspired by the default title the artist’s phone gave her voice notes when writing for the album. Check out the full track-list below.

London-based singer and poet Arlo Parks premiered her latest single ‘Hurt’ today, sharing it as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on her BBC Radio 1 show. Temporarily filling in for Mac is fellow DJ and presenter Clara Amfo, who interviewed the artist, and played the song for the first time.

Kicking off the conversation, Amfo praised Parks’ use of spoken word in the third verse, and asked how it came about. To this, she replied, “I’ve always really been inspired by like poetry and spoken word and hip-hop, and I felt like story telling was at the heart of this song, and I kind of wanted to add a bit more visual imagery into the track.” She also said that she had been “a little bit nervous” to include it.

Written at a friends’ apartment, the upbeat song contains some loaded lyrics, such as “Wouldn’t it be lovely to feel something for once/Wouldn’t it be lovely to feel worth something.” But, it offers a solitude in the chorus, with the words “I know you can’t let go of anything at the moment/Just know it won’t hurt so much forever.” The songwriter explained, “There are some tricky topics tackled but I wanted it to be something playful,” and this was certainly achieved.

‘Hurt’ was co-written by Parks and Gianluca Buccellati, who also produced the track. Prior to the release, Parks shared a video online, commenting, “My heart is bursting I’m so ready to bring this bop into your lives.” Despite how little the video gave away, fans were excited to listen and view the music video. ‘Hurt’ is out now via Transgressive Records, and Parks has asked fans to let her know how the song makes them feel, hoping that it can uplift them and wishing that everyone is “being sweet to themselves”.

Hurt is out now! I hope it brings you joy and uplifts you even if it’s only in a small way – I’d love to know how it makes you feel – hope everyone’s being sweet to themselves https://t.co/nr721GnajQ Alexandra Waespi pic.twitter.com/a40RNUc2Px — Arlo Parks (@arloparks) August 18, 2020

At only 20 years old, the singer-songwriter has achieved much success, releasing her most moving song to date, ‘Black Dog’, earlier this year. Furthermore, she has featured on songs with Easy Life and Future Utopia, appeared on Michelle Obama’s podcast playlist, and partnered with Amazon Music’s Breakthrough programme for new artists. Parks has confirmed that she is working on her debut album, but nothing has been publicly announced yet.

It has been revealed that ‘Violent Sun’ is the closing track on the album, and it was described in a press release as being “a first in the Everything Everything catalogue.” The release went on to say, “It’s a propulsive rush of melody with a cinematic scale…The band wanted it to feel like the last song played on the dance floor.” Now that fans can listen to the song, this is very apparent in the fast-paced vocal line and suspended synths.

Frontman Jonathan Higgs said himself that “‘Violent Sun’ is about the feeling that something terrible is approaching fast, and you want to hold on to this moment forever.” In his interview with Annie Mac, he expressed this same sentiment, as well as going on to discuss the album, his musical process, and his fans, saying, “every time we’ve put something out that we’re really proud of ourselves, people react really well.”

The band capture their vision for the song in the music video, also released yesterday. Though still in isolation, each member used a GoPro to film themselves running through various locations. The video has gained 13,000 views on YouTube, and still counting.

In his interview for Radio 1, Higgs also mentioned the upcoming ‘RE-ANIMATOR’ tour which Everything Everything will embark on in March 2020. This is to be their first headlining tour in years, but the future of live music is still so uncertain, given the Covid-19 pandemic. He told Mac, “It feels amazing to finally put something in stone. I mean, who knows what the world will be like by then, but we’re looking ahead to March and hopefully we’ll be able to go on the road again.” Tickets are available now from the bands website.

DJ-production duo CamelPhat have released a new track in collaboration with popular English rock band Foals today via RCA Records. Entitled ‘Hypercolour’, the single was written by the duo along with Foals’ Yannis Philippakis (lead vocalist, lead guitarist) and performed by the band.

With a more electronic sound than Foals are used to playing, ‘Hypercolour’ is a summer song with a dark and mysterious influence from the bands’ rock background. Contrastingly, the lyrics are pure and positive as ever, with the repeated line: “Endless, open wide road running through the sky/Hypercolour blue and the summer in your mind.”

The single debuted as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record, gaining 12,000 views on YouTube in under 24 hours. Introducing the record, Mac said, “It’s a real big one today – CamelPhat collaborating with Yannis from Foals on a track called ‘Hypercolour’. She then spoke briefly to the artists, who gave some insight into the track, explaining that they wanted it to be released today, on Glastonbury weekend, as CamelPhat were supposed to play tomorrow (Saturday 27th).

CamelPhat promoted the song prior to its release, documenting a small part of the editing process after recording. Speaking with Forbes, the pair expressed their excitement for the release, saying, “We’ve been longtime fans of Foals after seeing them live a number of times over the years, and they have always been on our list to collaborate with. Thankfully, the feeling was mutual.”

Sadly, both bands have had tour dates cancelled due to the coronavirus, with Foals rescheduling their UK and European tour. On the bright side, this has allowed them to work on new music and look forward to the day they can perform live again.

CamelPhat have been incredibly active this year, sharing numerous singles to a warm reception from fans. Made up of members Dave Whelan and Mike Di Scala, the duo was formed in 2004 in Liverpool and has seen a number of singles released since, with 2017’s ‘Cola‘ reaching over 100 million streams.

Foals have released five studio albums in total, with various changes to members. Currently, the formation includes Yannis Philippakis (lead vocals, lead guitar), Jimmy Smith (guitar), Edwin Congreave (bass, keyboards), and Jack Bevan (drums).

The song explores mental health and learning how to share emotions with other people. In a statement, Crookes said “I’ve suffered from mental health issues since I was young.” The singer explained “Being able to have these important conversations with my friends and then my family has been challenging and I guess that’s why I always turned to music,” and finished by saying that she hopes to continue breaking down boundaries with her songs.

Annie Mac played ‘Anyone But Me’ on her BBC Radio 1 show as the ‘Hottest Record’ on Wednesday evening. The single is the first fans have heard from Crookes since she attended the Brits in February. Nominated for the Rising Star Award, the London artist was excited to be nominated alongside Celeste, but said that “You take one look at that list to go ‘there’s not enough women on it’.”

Lead singer Lynn Gunn spoke about the single, saying it’s “about being a people pleaser, holding other up and never asking for anything back. Quite often that can be taken advantage of and it can be hard to set ‘no’, set boundaries. This feels amplified, especially as a woman. This song is about stepping into my power as a woman, shedding old skin and taking nurturing, caretaker feminine nature and turning it into a super power.”

The music video for ‘Dead Weight’ also premiered yesterday, with Gunn driving a hearse with a mini disco ball on the rear-view mirror as she wears glitter and dances with other lost souls. It has already gained 54,000 views and was directed by YHELLOW, who also worked on 2019 singles ‘Old Wounds’ and ‘Hallucinations’.
