Folk-rock singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright shared a new uplifting track “Hole In My Heart” from her upcoming album.
Following the release of the title track in May and the single “Falaise De Malaise” last month, the new song is the latest addition to her forthcoming album “Love Will Be Reborn“.

The new single “is a playful song that’s brimming with joy. The song serves as the emotional flip side to previous song “Falaise de Malaise”, a song steeped in despair and sadness, the storm to the sunshine” shares the press release. The last single was written and sung in ‘Franglais’ (a mix of English and French). The singer said at that time: “I’ve always sung in French (Piaf record and various covers..) but this is the first time I’ve allowed myself to compose in it”.

Listen to and watch the video for “Hole In My Heart” below.
Like many records this year, Wainwright’s upcoming release has been produced during a global pandemic and recorded in the singer’s hometown, Montreal. Records were made in the basement of her cafe, which also serves as a studio.
The singer has recently been added to the Best Albums Of 2021 by HMV. She reached the Top 10 alongside Lorde, Jungle, Chvrches, Jake Bugg, Maisie Peters, Bleachers, Deafheaven, Jade Bird and Mr Jukes & Barney Artist.

The single is part of her first in over a decade new album “Change“. The album, released only last week (23rd July) is a follow up to her self-titled LP from 2010, produced by Portishead’s Geoff Barrow.

“Throughout Change there’s a palpable sense of global anxiety seemingly baked into its DNA” shares a press release. The album already received great reviews with Trembezine calls it an album that “observes the boundaries of a multitude of sounds and styles, at times circumspect, at others cavalier and efficient. Its range is one that is equally as difficult to square. That’s what makes it so refreshing, an album that’s personal, written not within the boundaries of a label’s whims, or for consistency’s sake, but one that was written for when the time was right“.

The album was produced throughout the pandemic “when fear and the tendency for introspection were at an all-time high“, which can be clearly heard. It’s Anika’s reaction to the world around her.

“‘Never Coming Back’ is a song about those things that are no longer there, that we didn’t see slip away; only upon their complete extinction, did we register the loss and by then, it was too late. Be it our freedoms, our liberties, our protections, our birds, our breaths, our loved ones. It’s a love song about loss” – the singer said about the new single.

The video for “Never Coming Back” has been directed by Schiefer Film, who explained: “The sun burns down as Elias is roaming around. He is confidently moving through the landscapes. Daydreaming, killing time and increasingly merging with nature as he is gently embraced by Anika’s voice. Her presence is calm, yet captivating. Every end is linked to a new beginning.” Watch the video below.
