UK-based producer and DJ Daniel Avery has officially joined Domino Records, marking this new partnership with the announcement of his forthcoming LP, ‘Tremor’.

The 13-track album comes as a follow-up to Avery’s 2022’s critically acclaimed album, ‘Ultra Truth’, and is said to be a mixture of electronic styles: ambient, shoegaze, industrial, and techno, all blended in his signature experimental style, according to The Quietus.

Avery also described Tremor as “the welcoming spirit of acid house with the doors flung open wider still to allow in every influence from my musical journey. The warmth of distortion, the stillness inside intensity, the transcendental beauty of noise.”

The first single from the new record, ‘Rapture In Blue’, features vocals by Cecile Believe, which is the alias of Los Angeles singer and producer Caila Thompson-Hannant.

Cecile Believe isn’t the only collaborator on ‘Tremor’; Yeule and yunè pinku also feature as vocalists on the album. The presence of these artists marks Avery’s expansion beyond club techno into more vocal-driven, emotional territory.

Domino Records has ‘Tremor’ set for release on October 31, 2025. Until then, “Rapture in Blue” is out now, offering listeners a glimpse into what the new record has to offer. The album is Avery’s first release on the iconic label after a stretch on London label, Phantasy.

Avery is set to go on tour at the end of the year, but kicked off with a special afterparty event at Concorde 2 in Brighton on July 18. This show, linked to the On The Beach festival, offered fans a chance to see Avery bring his immersive electronic sound to an intimate seaside venue.

Acclaimed songwriter and synth-pop icon Vince Clarke, whose various musical ventures include spells with Depeche Mode and Yazoo, as well as a prolific career as part of electronic duo Erasure, has announced his debut solo album. The instrumental LP, titled Songs Of Silence, spans ten tracks and is set to hit stores worldwide on November 17.

Conceived during the lockdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic and recorded at his home studio in New York, initial sessions for the solo project offered Clarke an opportunity to experiment with different textures and explore the more abstract, ambient aspects of electronic music.

As evidenced in his newly released lead single – “The Lamentations Of Jeremiah” - Clarke’s latest studio effort sees him tackle the Eurorack – a modular synthesiser format known for its limitless configurations. The first taster of what looks set to be a particularly somber record features composer Reed Hays performing a haunting cello line over ominous Eurorack-generated synth drones.

Watch the official video for “The Lamentations Of Jeremiah”, directed by Ebru Yıldız, below:

“When I first heard the song, I felt like it contained a whole lifetime within itself,” says Ebru, whose pensive, black-and-white shots of Clarke in an old house portray a brooding musician in various states of contemplation. “All of the drama and peace, anxiousness and calmness, tension and hope, and everything in between. I wanted the visuals to feel like all those extremes as well.”

For the writing process of the album, Clarke followed two rules: firstly, each song would be composed using the Eurorack, and secondly, each track would stay within a single key, with one note pervading throughout. Adhering to these limitations helped the “Just Can’t Get Enough” hitmaker tap into a creative flow that eventually blossomed into a fully-fledged album.

“I could have gone on forever, I could have not stopped,” Clarke said of his creative process in a press statement. “I was enjoying the process so much and wasn’t thinking about anyone else hearing it. But hearing it develop in my studio, in my head, learning new tricks — that’s been the best thing about this. I was in a state of shock, actually, when Mute said they wanted to release this album.”

Songs Of Silence is out November 17 on Mute and available for pre-order here.

Eno toured with Roxy Music in the 70s but has since rarely played live only playing one-off shows or at festivals. Brian and his brother Roger played together at Acropolis, Athens back in 2021 as part of the annual Epidaurus Festival. The concert was filmed and screened in cinemas across the UK for one night only on the 2nd March earlier this year.

Originally Eno didn’t plan on making The Ship a record. “The way the whole piece started out was not as a record but as an installation,” Eno told Entertainment Weekly back in 2016. When a friend of Eno’s asked him for a recording of the installation in Stockholm he started thinking of making The Ship an album. “It took me by surprise a little bit,” he continued. “I wasn’t planning it as my next record project when I started it.”

On the third track “Fickle Sun (ii) The Hour Is Thin”, Eno used a Markov chain generator to create the lyrics spoken by Peter Serafinowicz by mixing “dirty songs by First World War soldiers” with “accounts written from the lifeboats by people watching the Titanic sinking” and “part of a book about the blitz over London”. The result is an eerie and twisted lullaby. Listen to the track below:

The album was released on electronic artist Four Tet’s label Text Records and was dubbed by the artist “the most beautiful album of 2023”.

The duo kept the LP under wraps until yesterday (3rd May) when electronic musician Four Tet comically revealed on Instagram with a faraway image of a post-it note that the album, Secret Life, would be released on his label Text Records. According to Kieran Hebden (aka Four Tet) “it is the most beautiful album of 2023”. The album will be available on physical release as CDs and vinyl as Fred showcased on his Instagram.

The musicians revealed on social media that “for the last couple of weeks” a radio station called secretlife.fm has been playing “different versions” of the album at 10 pm BST each evening. The 11-track final and main version of the ambient album debuted on NTS Radio last night (3rd May).

Fred Again.. took to Instagram to express his excitement over the project and his love for Eno writing: “I absolutely love Brian. So much. Ive been so lucky to have him as my friend and mentor since I was 16. And the older I get the more I appreciate how rare and wonderful his mind is.” He continued to say: “Making this was I think the most therapeutic experience ive had in music. ill explain a bit more why when I understand it a bit better I think?”.

In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Eno reciprocated Fred’s praises saying, “I think of Fred as my mentor as well in that I Iearned so much about contemporary music from watching him work. When I first worked with Fred I could see he was brilliant. It was very clear he’s a very sensitive and good artist. But I didn’t really understand what he was doing. It took me quite a while to think, ‘Oh my gosh, this is really a new idea about how you can make music.’”

Alternative/prog metal outfit Loathe shared their surprising new record The Things They Believe via Sharp Tone Record. A beautiful collection of ambient instrumental pieces and atmospheric sonic scapes, the project premiered in the early hours of Sunday 7 February, exactly a year to the date from the release date of their monumental sophomore album I Let It In and It Took Everything (2020).

At the beginning of the year, SharpTone Record shared a post teasing all acts from their roster with new music in preparation for 2021, including Loathe much to the surprise of fans and critics still hooked on their previous release. Two weeks ago, the band announced the surprise release of The Thins They Believe and confirmed the involvement of saxophonist John Waugh (1975), guitarist Peter Vybiral (Parting Gift), and Vincent Weight in the ambitious upcoming project.

As a surprising yet appropriate continuation of the critically acclaimed I Let It In And It Took Everything and the unusually disruptive year that followed its premiere, The Things They Believe offers a musical retreat from reality. Stripping Loathe’s previous record down to its sonic nucleus, it seemlessly expands its themes and forms a beautiful instrumental soundtrack of the troubled times we live in. The Liverpool quintet shared their latest project with the following message:

“The concept for ‘The Things They Believe’ was born from the incredible response to ‘I Let It In And It Took Everything’, which became the impetus to extend the identity and timeline of the record. Creating sonic landscapes and parallels that explore and expand further on the areas within ‘I Let It In And It Took Everything’. As we release this collection of atmospheres, we hope you lose yourself further within this chapter and, much like our love for soundtracks and soundscapes provides us with solace in times of distress and need, we hope you find comfort inside too.”

The Things They Believe consists of 12 individual tracks seemlessly intertwined in one 35-minute long ambient piece evoking silent contemplation and melancholy. The instrumental album is built on ambient sonic scapes mixed with real recordings of gentle rain and chirruping birds, occasionally backed with soulflul saxophone. The record is currenty available only as a digital release across all streaming platforms.

In an exclusive interview for Kerrang! from earlier today, guitarist Erik Bickerstaffe, bassist Feisal El-Khazragi and singer Kadeem France discussed the inspiration and creative process behind their unusual new release and time spent in lockdown:

“Throughout lockdown, we all experienced what can only be described as extreme personality changes or periods of self-discovery. We’ve all been quite separated from each other, with me down here in Wales, Erik in St Helens, Connor being stranded in Belgium at this point, while only Kadeem and Sean actually live in central Liverpool. We had begun to find the comfort in ambient music, meditation and that kind of stuff. We wanted to create a similar soundscape to live within the universe of Loathe and the world of I Let It In… It’s just another place that you can go.”
