Harry Styles won the award for Favourite Album – Pop/Rock for his album Fine Line. Fine Line is Harry’s second studio album of his solo career that came out in December 2019. The album debuted at #3 on the UK Album Charts and #1 on the Billboard top 200. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked it number 491 on its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, making it the most recent album to be included.

Dua Lipa won the award for Favourite Song – Pop/Rock for her single Don’t Start Now. Don’t Start Now is the lead single off Dua Lipa’s second studio album Future Nostalgia, it peaked on the UK Singles Charts and the Billboard top 200 at #2. Dua Lipa took to Instagram to thank her fans for their support for her first AMA award, saying; “THANK YOU 2 EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU THAT VOTED!!! I LOVE YOU”

Dua also performed her single Levitating virtually from The Royal Albert Hall in London. The stunning performance was broadcasted live and consisted of Dua Lipa in a glittery outfit that perfectly fit the celestial theme along with a group of dancers. Dua capped off the performance by raising in the air as if flying through space, while glitter rained around her.

Taylor Swift has the highest amount of nominations, with six to her name including ‘Artist of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’. However Ed is not too far behind with five separate nominations, with ‘Favourite Male Artist Pop/Rock’ and ‘Favourite Album Pop/Rock’.

It is particularly impressive for Ed Sheeran as this is the first time he has been nominated for the American Music Awards, thus he is making his debut in the AMAs with five nominations! Not bad at all!

The Weeknd musical reputation continues to grow at an exemplary rate; with the Canadian singer-songwriter also being nominated for five separate awards, contesting with Ed Sheeran for a number of them.

The American Music Awards are decided by public vote, and voting is currently taking place online, if you’re based in the US, you can vote here and have your say on who you think should win.

Global music star Jennifer Lopez is set to host this year’s show; which will be next month on the 22nd November and will be widely broadcast on ABC.
