Manchester rock band Pale Waves have announced their UK and Ireland ‘Still Smitten’ tour.

The tour begins this October. Last year, they released their fourth studio album ‘Smitten’, with lyrics largely drawn from lead singer Heather Baron-Gracie’s teenage diary, offering an intimate look into her emotions surrounding her queer identity. The album’s soundscape takes inspiration from artists like Kacey Musgraves and Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries.

In an interview with MXDWN, Heather Baron-Gracie discussed in further detail the inspirations and creative processes behind the album. She reflects on how she’s evolved from her younger self when discussing the track ‘Miss America’, saying: “Miss America, it was kind of how my past behaviours weren’t great, I had not been the best partner to someone and I think in the moment I would justify that and give it reasoning. But I think being older and being able to reflect and now I can hold my hands up high and be like, no, I definitely was in the wrong and I should have done better, but I think in the moment I wouldn’t have admitted that. So, I think it’s all about reflection and being able to kind of admit when you are wrong and when you’ve not done right.”

Discussing the sound of the record, Baron-Gracie says: “It has those ’80s dreamy and anthemic guitars and the twinkly synths and the big choruses, and I think that’s just what we do best. So it was just naturally the kind of music that we wanted to write and what we write best.”

For the 2025 ‘Still Smitten’ tour, the band expressed a desire to perform in spots across the UK and Ireland that often go unnoticed. They said in a statement to the press: “We’re so excited to announce our new tour—this time, we’re heading to places across the UK and Ireland that often get overlooked. These aren’t your typical tour stops, but that’s exactly why we chose them. We wanted to bring the show to places that deserve more love, those underrated spots that are full of character and loyal fans we’ve been dying to play for.

“This tour isn’t about the biggest venues. It’s about the biggest feelings.”

Alt-rock Leeds band Dinosaur Pile-Up shared their new single ‘Sick Of Being Down’ on 19 June ahead of their new album ‘I’ve Felt Better’, set for release on 22 August.

The fresh new track is a garage-punk thunderstorm as frontman Matt Bigland sonically fights against the difficulties he faced during the band’s six month hiatus due to his ongoing battle with ulcerative colitis. Bigland spoke to Kerrang! about his relationship with his own identity during his health issues. He said, “I was experimenting with weed again to see if I could balance my mental state a little better, and one day, I was wondering if I was in a cycle of kind of self-fulfilling cause and effect; I’m sick of being down when I’m high, cos I’m high when I’m sick of being down”, quoting the repeated lyrics ending the song.

‘I’ve Felt Better’ continues to capture empowerment through personal struggle as the band have released several hard-hitting bangers in the run up to the album’s release. Fan favourite ‘Bout To Lose It’, a thrashing release of emotion was shared this march with a simple, yet powerful music video of the band performing together, united in their frustrations.

With the release of their track ‘Big Dogs’ in May, the band challenged fans on TikTok to create content around the song for a chance to win two tickets to one of their London Headline shows, two merch bundles and a VIP ride to The Electric Ballroom.

Dinosaur Pile-Up are also down to be involved in the farewell show for Sheffield’s The Leadmill, set to close on June 28th. The closure of the venue comes at the heartbreak of many fans and musicians. Last month Pulp and Longpigs guitarist Richard Hawley spoke out about the issue, pleading for a change in legislation.

Dinosaur Pile-Up will play one of the final gigs at the venue, on 24 June with support from HotWax. Find tickets on The Leadmill website.

The alt-rock band are also setting off for their UK headline tour in September, their first set of shows since 2019. The tour opens at XOYO, Birmingham, and ends with London’s Electric Ballroom. Find tickets and exciting updates from the band on their official website.

Earlier this week, the band replied to an X post that read “had a dream last night that wolf alice announced their new album”, to which the band replied “dream or vision?”. The post left fans speculating and got them really excited with @gherkinroswell posting “Wolf Alice are BACK.”

Theo Ellis, bass player, interacted to the post with an egg timer to suggest the start of LP4 countdown.

The ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’ songwriters were confirmed to be playing at Glastonbury festival this June and BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool this May. Front singer, Ellie Rowsell took some time away from the band last year to write the score for short film HERMIT starring Emma Corrin.

The Mercury Prize-winning indie rockers released the EP ‘Blue Lullaby’, lullaby versions of songs from their acclaimed LP ‘Blue Weekend’, in 2022. They also supported Harry Styles during his ‘Love On Tour’ world tour in 2022, with the two singer duetting with Wolf Alice’s track ‘No Hard Feelings’ from ‘Blue Weekend’.

‘Emita Ox’ will be the follow-up to the band’s self-titled second album which was released last year to acclaim. According to a press release the upcoming LP sees them push “harder into heavy distortion and psychedelic dreamscapes”. The band co-produced the album themselves along with Alex Farrar who has worked with the likes of MJ Lenderman and Indigo De Souza. The production of the album demonstrates how the band’s tastes and influences have changed over the years, now being influenced by more progressive and experimental bands such as Swans and Black Midi. The group’s bassist, Mikaela Oppenheimer, said that “This album encompasses a lot of our inspirations. It also shows what we’re like as a trio, collectively.”

The forthcoming project was recorded earlier this year in Asherville, North Carolina, with the band playing all the instruments heard on the record. The album sees the band’s contributions to the songwriting and production bleed into each other as well as being a showcase of their individual strengths as musicians. Drummer, Stella Wave said: “We map out all the sections beforehand, we like to write intricate parts that complement each other”.

She continued talking about how the songs on the album represent tough times for the band: “This album represents a period of time that’s very meaningful to us. The songs are related to things that we all know about, even if it’s not out on the table for everyone else. The songwriting and recording process was a very heavy time that I will never forget.”

While playing a show at the O2 Riz in Manchester on the 13th of June, — band Spotlights had their van broken int0 and many of their personal items stolen. Vocalist Mario Quintero has set up a GoFundMe so fans can donate to the group to allow them to continue on the EU leg of their current tour.

The news was announced in an Instagram post after the gig and stated that though the band had managed 8 years ‘dodging the unfortunate inevitable’ the window to their van was smashed whilst there were playing in Manchester.

The post shows a picture of the broken window along with the caption reading ‘Help us out if you can!’ The band are currently undertaking their first-ever headlining tour in the U.K., which kicked off on the 5th of June, when thieves broke into their van and stole many personal belongings. Fortunately, the band’s equipment was not in the van and therefore they can continue with the rest of the European tour however the luggage of their drummer Chris Enriquez, their sound engineer Terence, and their driver Ian all had their luggage stolen which contained valuable personal belongings like iPads as well and clothes and toiletries.

On the GoFundMe page set up by frontman Mario Quintero detailed that the main priority for the band is make sure those that lost their clothes and toiletries have access to them. The description for the donation page reads ‘We’re extremely lucky that we had all of our equipment with us at the time but Chris, our sound engineer Terence, and our driver/merch Ian all had their luggage stolen. There were laptops, iPads and all their clothes and personal belongings in there.’ The band are also required to ‘pay a hefty deductible to the rental company for insurance’ due to the damages made to the vehicle.

Though Spotlights are a relatively new band, they have opened for like likes of Deftones, Melvins, Pelican, and Glassjaw in their first few years. They are a trio made up of couple Mario Quintero [guitar, vocals, keys] and Sarah Quintero [bass, vocals] and Chris Enriquez who drums for the band and released their debut album in 2016. The band’s success is only exemplified by the phenomenal support they had from fans after the incident. On the 15th of June Quintero updated the page thanking fans for their support as they reached their goal for sending in less than 24 hours. The organiser mentioned that the band would be disabling donations as they didn’t want to take more than they required. The singer also noted that ‘although some personal things are irreplaceable due to sentimental value, we can now cover what’s necessary for everyone on our crew to continue on this tour and pay all the insurance deductibles.’

The post ended with a sign off from the three members saying ‘We love you all and can’t thank you enough for your swift action in helping us recover. Eternally grateful, Mario, Sarah and Chris’. The band will continue their tour across Europe into July.

Enter Shikari have announced that they are doing an intimate tour throughout the UK at the end of 2024. This tour will see a big downgrade in venue capacity for the Band as they played a massive UK arena Headline tour in February of this year which celebrated the release of their last release ‘A Kiss For The Whole World’ and saw them partner up with the Music Venue Trust, as well as the fact they are set to play on the main stage at download festival later this week. They will be playing at some much smaller venues this time round, getting up close and personal with their fans.

‘Losing My Grip’ feat. @mrjasonaalon of @fever333 filmed live at Wembley Arena, U.K is out now.

+ Enter Shikari will head out on a short U.K tour of more intimate venues in November and December! Taking along the excellent @TeenageWrist for the ride. pic.twitter.com/nlO8kCscLL

— ENTER SHIKARI (@ENTERSHIKARI) June 12, 2024

While their last tour, which was their biggest UK tour to date, supported smaller venues by donating £1 of every ticket sold for the arena tour to the Music Venue Trust, this upcoming tour will see the St. Albans four-piece play at some of these smaller venues.

The band will commence this intimate tour at the Foundry in Torquay on the 26th of November before playing in Sheffield, Liverpool, Norwich and Birmingham, and will finish the tour at Lees Cliff Hall in the seaside town of Folkestone in Kent. They will be joined by Los Angeles Alt. rock band, Teenage Wrist, on all of the dates.

Speaking about this upcoming more personal tour, frontman and producer Rou Reynolds highlighted the importance of giving back to fans saying that “People often travel considerable distances to come to live shows, so we feel it’s important for us to make the effort as well sometimes and play places that your standard tour wouldn’t normally.”

He added “On this run we’ve got some smaller stops that we haven’t played in ages, sandwiched in with cities like Birmingham, Liverpool, and Glasgow, that we didn’t get to visit on our arena tour.”

He also told fans that this may well be the last UK tour for a little while: “As much as we love the bigger rooms it’s going to be killer to play some smaller sweatier places again, and as these will be our last UK shows for quite a while, we couldn’t go into hiding without one last visit to the Barras!”

This announcement comes alongside a video for the live performance of their recent single, ‘Losing My Grip’, at Wembley arena. The single, that was released in January, saw them collab with Fever 333’s Jason Aalon Butler and will be included in their upcoming album, ‘Dancing On the Frontline’, which is going to include various Shakari sound system mixes as well as some BBC live sessions of their songs and this will be released on the 5th of July via So Recordings.

This year’s line-up currently includes Manchester’s own indie rock band Pale Waves who are set to headline the festival as well as the UK’s new favourite tortured poet, Seb Lowe, who has previously supported 70s rock legend Patti Smith.

Pale Waves debuted a new song at their London gig on Friday and just three days ago they announced some exciting upcoming news which fan’s are speculating will be a forthcoming album or tour considering the unreleased song which was played for fans on Friday.

Alongside headliners Pale Waves, the line up includes Birmingham’s ‘Overpass’ who have taken the Black Country by storm with their startling sound. The band feature in the line-up of some of the UK’s most iconic festivals this year including TruckFest and Derbyshire’s Y Not. ‘The Vamp’s’ Bradley Simpson will also be performing his solo work and you can also catch a glimpse of Liverpools ‘The Mysterines’ who released their debut album in 2022 and are currently preparing for the related of their sophomore record, Afraid of Tomorrows, which will hit the shelves on the 21st of June.

Fan’s are delighted that the city will be brimming with musicality yet again after the disappointing news that Manchester’s infamous May Neighbourhood Weekender will be put on hiatus until 2025. If you’re unfamiliar with the structure of a cross-city festival like Neighbourhood Festival, the idea is that you can collect your wristband on the day the festival which grants ticket holders access to any of the participating venues across the city allowing festival-goers ‘venue-hop’ to catch all their favourite bands and artists in one day. Some of the venues which are set to host include including the Ritz, Gorilla and Albert Hall. The all day festival is essentially a small-scale version of the Neighbourhood Weekender which has hosted the likes of The Wombats, The Kooks, Sugarbabes and Scouting For Girls.

Yesterday, Australian band Jet announced dates for their upcoming UK and Ireland tour which will be the first full tour that the band have played on this side of the world in 15 years. The tour will take place in October of this year and the band will travel across all of the UK’s biggest cities including, but not limited to, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow as well as shows in Dublin and Belfast.

The Aussie rock band are currently touring their home country in honour of the 20th anniversary of their 2003 debut album Get Born, which they have been performing in full across their various gigs. Get Born is their highest charting work, holding the number one spot in Australia after its release and securing its rightful place in the top 20 of the UK’s charts. Following Get Born’s entrance into the world, The Rolling Stones offered Jet a supporting role on their headlining tour in 2003. As well as their own headlining shows for the debut album, the band played over 200 gigs throughout that year. Get Born’s lead single ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’ has dominated the scenes of house parties, adverts across the last 20 years and, most notably to much of the UK, appeared in the British classic animated film Flushed Away in 2006.

As for new music from the group, they have just released the new single, Hurry Hurry and are working on their long-awaited fourth album, which is set for release in 2025. The single released on the 9th of May came with a special announcement of a 2 track 7”vinyl in burnt orange which was only limited to 200 copies and sold out almost instantly as noted in an instagram post from the band. The b-side features a track called Un’avventura; a cover of Wilson Picket’s cover of a song originally by Lucio Battisti. Frontman Nic Caster performs on the track in both English and Italian which is a gesture to the last 15 years he has spent living in Como with his wife Pia McGeoch. The songs are not yet released on streaming sites but you can score a free download of the track on their website by signing up to The Jet’s mailing list here.

It’s no surprise that people are delighted at this announcement as fans have been anticipating a new album since September 2016 when the band declared they would be re-forming to support shows for Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band in February 2017 after their original 2012 disbandment. This album will arrive 16 years after the release of Jet’s third studio album Shaka Rock which came out in summer 2009. You can listen to Hurry Hurry below on the Jet’s YouTube channel.

One of the pioneering bands of early 90s alt-rock, Jane’s Addiction, announce intimate show at London’s Bush Hall on Thursday the 23rd of May. The band are currently in the UK for their first European headlining tour in 8 years as well as to play the 2024 Derbyshire Bearded Theory.

Formed after the dissolution of frontman Perry Farell’s previous band, Jane’s Addiction gained attention from Warner Bros. Records in 1987 with the release of their self titled live album. Since then, the band have sporadically toured and dissolved a number of times the first being in 1991 where their farewell tour launched the first Lollapalooza – an annual four day festival held in Grant Park Chicago. Lollapalooza has since become a revered alternative rock festival evolving to include genres like hip hop and electronic dance music and even expanded outside of the US in 2010. ‘Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza’, a three part documentary on the festival, debuted at Sundance film festival in January and will premiere on May 21st on Paramount +. Give it a watch if you are curious about the member’s projects outside of the band.

The band describe themselves as a kind of farrago or ‘Hodge-Podge'; that is a mass of disorderly chaos, or a jumble. Born out of the LA underground rock scene, the band recall this space fondly as it gave them a chance to make mistakes and define who they are now. In a 2012 interview with Rhino, infamous guitarist Dave Navarro expressed that the band are just doing ‘what we want and don’t really worry about it. I mean, listen to the lyrics of “Have A Cigar.” What a direct ‘f*ck you’ to the music industry that song is.’ Unfortunately fans of the band may be disappointed as Navarro hasn’t returned to the stage due to ongoing issues with long Covid. Instead, he has been replaced by Josh Klinghoffer who, like Navarro, is best known for touring with the Red Hot Chili Peppers between the years 2009 and 2019. In 2022 speaking to Alternative Press, Farell expressed that it wasn’t easy finding a replacement for Navarro noting that ‘Jane’s is a unique band, and you can’t just grab any guitar player and they’ll pick it up. That’s Dave Navarro we’re talking about — those are big shoes to fill.’

If you’re attending the Derby festival of any of the band’s gigs then according to an article written by Niall Doherty, for Louder Magazine in April ‘what you should really do is shout out (not when Perry is talking, that would be rude) for the band to play either their epic, ten-minute 1990 single Three Days or the similarly vast Then She Did…’ or at least that’s what Farell told the journalist when speaking to him in 2021. You can listen to the lengthy piece below.

The remainder of the UK leg of their tour sees them playing at the Roundhouse in London and then onto Glasgow at the Barrowland Ballroom on the 31st of May before ending in Manchester with a show at the O2 Apollo on the 2nd of June. They will then travel to across to Europe to play shows in Germany and France before returning to this side of the pond in late June for a show at Trinity College Dublin on the 28th. You can find tickets for the Bush Hall show and any other of the band’s gigs over the coming weeks here.
