Yesterday saw the second day of Luno Presents All Points East, named APE Presents Field Day, this year the event celebrated its 15th anniversary. With Chemical Brothers and Kraftwerk 3D headlining the day, the event drew in a record-breaking audience of 50,000 music fans, marking Field Day’s biggest crowd to date. A large number of attendees meant that this year’s All Points East is this year’s largest festival in London.

Luke Huxham of Broadwick Live has given the following statement concerning the festival’s birthday, “We always wanted our 15th anniversary to be our best ever, and it was incredible to celebrate this milestone with so many people in our spiritual home of Victoria Park. Connecting the best artists in the world, both living icons and meteoric talent, with passionate audiences through the power of live music is why we love what we do.”

Over the years, All Points East’s Field Day has evolved into an event committed to Dance and electronic music. This year’s Field Day lineup further confirmed such a reputation when pioneering groups Chemical Brothers and Kraftwerk 3D took to the London stage. German masters of the electronic genre, Kraftwerk were first to take the stage at Victoria Park. Their Field Day show was one of the concluding performances of their 3D tour and saw the duo bring their unique brand of dance music and kaleidoscopic visuals to the capital. Their set included many of the group’s beloved hits including “Trans-Europe Express”, “The Model” and “Tour De France”.

Billed to close this year’s Field Day was The Chemical Brothers, the English dance-electronic outfit made sure to pull out all the stops within their set. Their headlining performance was packed with hit singles such as “Galvanise”, “Swoon” and “Star Guitar”. Speaking on the group’s set, CEO and Field Day organiser Gareth Cooper has stated, “That was bigger and better than anything London has seen or heard this year. The Chemical Brothers’ unmissable live set shows why no act has had a bigger impact in UK electronic music, both here and internationally. The Chemical Brothers really showed London how it’s done!”

It’s Almost Dry, Pusha T’s fourth studio album was released in April. Pusha told NME that it’s the “rap album of the motherfucking year,” and NME gave it a perfect five-star review. Despite being longer than ‘Daytona’, there is succinct preciseness to ‘It’s Almost Dry’ with Pusha’s lyricism, in particular, never left wanting. Alongside the outstanding production, it makes for an instant hip-hop classic.”

Pusha T is a hip-hop artist and record company executive. He gained notoriety as one half of the hip hop group Clipse, which consisted of his older brother No Malice and was primarily active from 1994 until 2010. As Clipse, the two enjoyed smash singles like “Grindin” and “When the Last Time,” as well as three studio albums and several mixtapes. They also established the record company Re-Up Records and the clothing line Play Cloths.

Pusha T joined Def Jam Recordings in September 2010 and signed to Kanye West’s GOOD Music imprint. He appeared on Kanye West’s song “Runaway” later that year, which reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Yesterday saw the return of the celebrated festival Luno presents All Points East 2022, the east London ten-day event made its return to London’s Victoria Park yesterday. Along with further activities on offer, the festival has further days full of music and entertainment scheduled for Saturday 20th, Thursday 25th, Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th August 2022.

The first day of All Points East included a lengthy lineup including Self Esteem, Pusha T, Idles, Turnstile and top billing act Gorillaz. The influential virtual band took the festival by storm with their impressive visual effects and undeniable stage presence. Alongside a series of beloved hits, the band’s setlist also included new material. Within their set, the Gorillaz debuted “New Gold”, their new collaboration with Tame Impala and Bootie Brown. Albarn, Gorillaz’s co-creater, spoke to the excited crowd about the new track, “It’s kind of a mad song, to be honest with you,”

Within the band’s now infamous set, they were joined by an array of special guests including Hip-hop pioneers De La Soul, Shaun Ryder, Popcaan, Rowetta and The Clash member Paul Simonon. When Albarn welcomed Simonon on stage he introduced the musician as his “Very Old Friend”, Albarn then stated that this was the first time since 2010 that the two artists had shared s stage. Simonon then performed “Plastic Beach” with the Gorillaz, the band closed their busy and eventful set with two of their biggest hits “Feel Good Inc.” and “Clint Eastwood”.

Before the Gorillaz commenced their headlining slot, Bristol rockers Idles took to The West stage. Upon addressing the roaring crowd frontman Joe Talbot said, “We were waiting a long time to come back, and we are f***ing grateful that you are here to look after and carry us in your beautiful arms, Thank you, All Points East.” During their set, the band played a varied mix of tracks including the 2018 single “Never Fight A Man With A Perm”.

Commenting on the newly announced line-up, European Festivals at AEG Presents CEO Jim King said: “After our hugely successful first year of welcoming BBC Radio 6 Music as All Points East’s broadcast partner in 2021, it’s brilliant to have them back hosting the 6 Music stage… “We’re delighted to welcome back the incomparable Gilles Peterson, Tom Ravenscroft and Mary Anne Hobbs curating the line ups with even more exciting names this summer.”

Mary Anne Hobbs and Jamz Supernova also offered insight into their feelings about the forthcoming APE festival when speaking with NME. Hobbs said: “We broke new ground with the pioneering All Queens stage at APE in 2021…It was the first time we’d been back on a festival stage for two years and it was emotional. It’s a joy to return with my ’22 line-up, loaded with incendiary young artists, with roots in many different cultures.”

Jamz Supernova spoke of his anticipation for this year’s iteration of the festival: “Really excited to be playing APE again, last year was a real highlight for me. Nothing better than being in your hometown. The stage, the sound and the ravers made it magical. This year, I’m really excited to be curating my own line-up on the 6 Music stage, watching the DJs smash it and celebrating the end of the day by watching James Blake.”
