Primal Scream’s UK tour is to mark the 30th anniversary of the seminal album Screamadelica. In celebration of the album’s release, the tour’s setlist sees the band perform their third studio album in full. The group’s headlining tour began at the start of the month with a performance in Glasgow and has two more dates left. The tour’s next stop is on 21^st July 2022 with a set at Standon Calling, the concluding performance is scheduled to take place on 22nd July 2022 at Welsh venue Alexandra Head.

Originally released on 23^rd September 1991 via Creation Records, Screamadelica will celebrate its official 30th birthday this autumn. The album has become a key part of the band’s history as the release confirmed the band’s adoption of a new sound. Prior to its release, Primal Scream had made a name for themselves within the indie rock genre, Screamadelica saw the band take inspiration from the house music scene which had exploded at the start of the decade. The album is steeped in musical history and holds importance for its involvement with the Mercury Music Prize, the album was crowned the acclaimed accolade’s first ever winner in 1992.

Saturday’s show was not the first time that Marr and Primal Scream have shared a stage, the 58-year-old musician joined the band in 2019 at the end of their set in Manchester’s Albert Hall. Similar to last night’s cameo, Marr also played on the live renditions of “Jailbird” and the 1994 single “Rocks”.

The recent collaboration with Primal Scream is one of many guest appearances Marr has made this Summer. Earlier within the month, Marr joined Grunge icons Pearl Jam on stage during their second date at BST Hyde Park. Last month also saw Marr share a stage with Alicia Keys; whilst performing at Manchester’s AO Arena, the American pianist invited Marr to perform the classic Smiths song “This Charming Man”. During the set Keys said to the crowd, “I’ve talked a lot about New York tonight, Now I want to talk about Manchester.” As the musician walked on stage Keys announced his arrival by shouting “Johnny Marr!”.

Two special new releases of the album will also drop in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Screamadelica; Screamadelica 12’’ Singles box set and Screamadelica double Vinyl picture disc will be available from 17th September 2022. Primal Scream will also release a brand-new collection of previously unreleased demos and early recordings, entitled Demodelica the new album will be released on 15th October 2022. The upcoming album will be available to order in various formats including digital, double vinyl, CD and C-90 cassettes, also included within the upcoming collection are liner notes penned by acclaimed writer John Savage.

Keys took to Twitter to reveal the news, explaining that all tickets will remain valid, but if required, fans can request a refund from the point of purchase. Despite some sadness in her tone, she ended the statement on an uplifting note: “Sending u so much love & light. Can’t wait to rock with u soon! Missing u!”

There are three UK dates in total, taking place in Manchester, Birmingham, and London, at the O2 Arena, as well as numerous cities in Europe. The news comes as no surprise as all live music events have been cancelled or postponed for the time being, in the interest of safety.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to Keys’ first album in four years, titled ‘Alicia’ and featuring recent single ‘Perfect Way To Die’, released in June. Initially, the album was due for release in March 2020, but it was postponed when the coronavirus began to spread. While the new release date has not been revealed, it is confirmed that ‘Alicia’ will be shared later this year.

Further singles which have been released so far are ‘Time Machine’, ‘Underdog’, ‘Show Me Love’ featuring Miguel, and ‘Good Job’. Keys has also taken part in NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, performing four of her original songs including 2001 hit ‘Fallin’. The singer also created a moving video for the BET Awards, making an incredible statement for the #BlackLivesMatter movement with ‘Perfect Way To Die’.

This UK tour will mark the 38-year-old singer’s return after seven years. Her last tour here was back in May 2013 with Set the World on Fire Tour, a tour in support of 2012’s fifth album Girl on Fire.

Besides the announcement of the touring, the “No One” hitmaker will also plan to drop the self-titled record on March 20. Keys has already shared three songs off the album. “Show Me Love“, a collaboration with R&B singer Miguel, is the first taste of ALICIA released back in last September. Following this track, “Time Machine” and “Underdog” are the latest cuts from the record. ALICIA is Keys’ latest record after HERE, the sixth studio album dropped in 2016.

2020 is going to be the busy, big year for Alicia Keys. In addition to the release of new album and tour, the songstress will also launch her memoir titled More Myself: A Journey on March 31, a week after the album drop. Also, Keys will host the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards for the second year in a row. The ceremony is on air on January 26.

Carter is now in preparation for her debut album after she was signed to Polydor, and is under the same managed company as Dua Lipa, who she supported on tour. Speaking to BBC News, Carter revealed how she found her voice, and connection with music: “I was a difficult child for sure. I was a very angry child and I hadn’t quite found a way to let it out, apart from shouting for a long time.

“My mum met my stepdad when I was 13 and he was the person who really changed me as a child and the way I looked at my life and dealt with things. He got me a guitar and said, ‘Instead of shouting at everyone and getting really angry, why don’t you just try and talk about the things you’re feeling?’”

It seems that Carter’s broken family during her childhood, caused her a lot of angst, however she believes that was a pivotal point for her, and music became her way of expressing her anger and emotions. Carters raw and emotional single ‘Why Her Not Me’, was an expression of the anger and sadness she felt towards her biological father.

She said on this song that “sadly, today I figured out the reason my dad wasn’t in life was because he was raising another family but I want to know why he picked them over me. Why her not me?. I literally just said that and the song wrote itself.”

When asked if she was glad that she put such personal information out there for everyone to hear Carter explained that for her she was “just an open book”, and “I didn’t really think about it”.

Writing for Carter seems to have been a healing experience as she explained “It was really hard (releasing ‘Why Her Not Me’) I think the month after I put Why Her Not Me out, I felt pretty exposed. I felt like I’d shared a lot. But at the same time I felt like I’d got a lot back, and through sharing that story and being open, it allowed a lot of young people to be open as well. As hard as it was, it was also extremely empowering and exciting that I was encouraging young people to talk and be open about their feelings (about) situations they’ve been through, and help them realise that actually they’re not the only ones who have felt it.”

Carter also revealed some of her biggest musical influences including, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse and Carole King. Grace Carters music is often referred to as melancholy and sad, yet her lyrics are often thoughtful and empowering too. in her own words she explains “I never want to be a victim, and that’s the main thing. In previous finals, performances were conducted by dance groups and choirs performing the official UEFA Champions League anthem.

Alicia Keys commented on the mass scale of the event:

“It’s pretty insane. I know there is going to be 80,000 people there in person and people are all over the world are going to witness it and watch this and celebrate.”

“My mother’s family is from Italy, so whenever I go, I always feel the most loved. I feel like it’s a homecoming of love in a lot of ways.”

Famously Alicia Keys was the first female to achieve an MTV Unplugged Number One album: the highest since Nirvana in 1994.

Alicia Keys’ new album will be her sixth studio album – debut album Songs in A Minor was released in 2001. This year Alicia Keys has joined the coaching team on The Voice extending her wider filmographic list since making an episode appearance in The Cosby Show (S1. Ep. 22) playing the character of ‘Maria’, in 1985.

No doubt a tour will follow and dates will be revealed once announced.
