Alternative pop group Nasty Cherry has finally shared a new track, “Shoulda Known Better“. It is the latest material from the band since the debut EP, ‘Season 1‘, released back in November 2019.

Singing “Eyes frog, crocodile tears, take a shot ‘cause I know that you’ll miss me. You’re a true deceiver,” the band encapsulates the frustrating feeling of regret at falling in love with a wrong person in the new single. “I should’ve known better, I should’ve known better, yeah,” vocalist Gabbriette Bechtel repeats.

“Shoulda Known Better” is a lo-fi track driven by a garage-y bassline with such an enthusiastic synth beat. The song is the band’s embarking into a new, darker sonic territory, a slight departure from their first EP’s glam-rock sound. It is hard not to think of works by HAIM and The Big Moon, but the track still remains a great bop to jam to.

Produced by Chris Petrosino & Rob McCurdy (who worked with Liam Payne, Ed Sheeran, Hailee Steinfeld, and blackbear), the single was recorded entirely in Los Angeles. The band shared, “We recorded it in LA right before going on tour, and a majority of it was written whilst laying on the floor.”

Last year, Nasty Cherry was welcomed into the music scene by the grace of our PC music queen Charli XCX. She handpicked the four girls—Gabbriette Bechtel (lead singer), Chloe Chaidez (guitarist), Georgia Somary (bassist), and Debbie Knox-Hewson (drummer)—and signed them to her Vroom Vroom Recordings.

The group received so much hype from their Netflix’s documentary ‘I’m with the Band: Nasty Cherry‘ which features how Charli XCX brought them together. Also, they released their very first body of work, a six-track EP dubbed ‘Season 1‘.

Even though the quartet has not given out any details whether “Shoulda Known Better” is the first cut from a new EP or—better—a debut album, the track is their first this year after the release of last year’s EP.

“Shoulda Known Better” is available for streaming and purchase now. Keep up with the band on Instagram and Twitter.

The show is in support of the upcoming solo project Petals for Armor. The album is due to drop a week before the show on May 8 via Atlantic Records. The tickets will be up for general sale from 10AM on March 13 via Ticketmaster.

After the end of promotion for 2017’s album After Laughter with Paramore, the 31-year-old singer/songwriter and her bandmates announced hiatus from music to follow solo endeavours. Williams decided to drop her very first body of work as a solo artist with a project under the name Petals for Armor.

Despite its full release on May 8, the project is already shared as a 5-track EP titled Petals for Armor I. “Simmer” is served as the first single cut from the project. It is an alternative rock track with such haunting vibes about letting go of grudge and learning to forgive. The track is produced by Paramore’s guitarist Taylor York.

The Grammy Winner also released a short film cut into three videos of three tracks from the album. After introducing a spooky, thriller/slasher video for “Simmer”, Williams debuted a video for “Leave It Alone” as a sequel for its predecessor. “Cinnamon” is the last one from the series; it is the most upbeat track of all three, with its video featuring the singer does an impressive choreography. All these tracks and videos are such remarkable work that allows Williams’ fans to gain insights into her artistry and personal life.

In support of her first ever solo project, Williams will go on the road for live shows. Apart from numerous gigs in North America, she will come to the UK and Europe as well. Sadly, London is the only city announced in the tour dates for the UK legs where her headlining show will take place. The show is coming to Electric Brixton on May 16, with Scottish dark-pop duo The Ninth Wave joining her as an opening act of all her UK and European shows.

However, Paramore’s fans can still get a chance to see Williams live at The Great Escape in Brighton. The festival just announced that the frontwoman is scheduled to perform on Friday 15th May. Tickets to the festival are also available now on its official site.

About her forthcoming live shows, Williams expressed her excitement to bring the live set for fans: “Wow. I am going on tour. Myself. It’s not Paramore and truthfully, it’s just a little terrifying. But if I know anything, it’s that there’s no safer place (besides at home with my dog) than to be in a room, on a stage, in front of the people who I’ve grown up singing my lungs out for. There was a time I thought I wouldn’t tour Petals For Armor. What a joke. I must.

“This is a brand new adventure. It’s important to embark on something new every now and then just to show yourself that you can. I welcome the discomfort and the joy and I’m ready to be present for this.

“The first run of shows is going to be hot, sweaty, and intimate. My brand-newly-formed band and I will be playing rooms that Paramore outgrew a decade ago. It’s going to be so satisfying to feel the energy of a crowd that close again, especially while performing songs that feel so vital for me; songs I have never performed before for an audience.

“Thank you for the chance to tour this. I hope to see a ton of old friends and make some new ones too.”

Petals for Armor I is available for streaming now on every platform, and the full album is also up for pre-order and will be released on May 6.

Their first album in five years, Rainier Fog is the group’s sixth full-length release. For its recording, the band worked between Studio X in Seattle (the same studio where they recorded their 1995 Alice In Chains album), Henson Recording Studios in LA and producer Nick Raskulinecz’s studio in Nashville, who also oversaw their last two albums. The new LP was engineered by Paul Figueroa and mixed by Joe Barresi, who is best known for his work with bands like Queens of the Stone Age and Tool.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell explained that the album is a revisiting of the group’s Seattle origins. The title track, a reference to Mount Rainier in Seattle, is “a little homage to all of that: where we come from, who we are, all of the triumphs, all of the tragedies, lives lived”.

Along with bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden and Mudhoney, Alice In Chains pioneered the Seattle grunge sound in the 1990s. The scene is marred with tragedy, however, including the deaths of Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and the band’s own Layne Staley. “It’s a small town and we all knew each other. It means the world to me that I was able to spend time with the guy to create what we all created in the same town.” Cantrell explained. “It gets really difficult to be the guy that has to talk about your dead friends all the time… I miss the hell out of all of them.”

See the tracklist below:

01. The One You Know
02. Rainier Fog
03. Red Giant
04. Fly
05. Drone
06. Deaf Ears Blind Eyes
07. Maybe
08. So Far Under
09. Never Fade
10. All I Am

Ahead of the album’s release, the group released two tracks as singles. The lead single, ‘The One You Know’, was inspired by David Bowie’s 1975 track, ‘Fame’. “It was around the time that Bowie died, and he must have been in my head a little bit,” Cantrell said. “It doesn’t sound anything like the riff to ‘Fame,’ but that kind of strut crept in there a little bit – the metal version of that feel.”

The follow-up single, ‘So Far Under’, was written by William DuVall, who joined the group following Staley’s overdose death in 2002. Powered by a modally-tinged metal riff, the track soon explodes into a roaring lead guitar solo, also played by DuVall.
