During her set, the backdrop shared a message hinting that even after a successful year with ‘Brat’, this era is not over. Her message told the fans, “So tell me the truth, will you hate me if I stick around??? Because honestly, I don’t know who I am if it’s over. And so… I’ve decided I want this to last forever. It wasn’t just a summer thing.” Charli continues to hint at more music coming through a billboard, found in Brooklyn, New York, and London, UK, to celebrate her one year of ‘Brat’ saying “forever <3”

Charli surprised fans with a second performance on Sunday, June 8th, as a guest alongside French musical duo, Air. Air’s duo, Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel, from Versailles, France, had a career spanning over eight albums, breaking up in 2014, to then reviving the band in 2023 in celebration of 25 years of their debut album ‘Moon Safari’, released back in 1998.  Air’s We Love Green setlist included songs ‘All I Need’, ‘Remember’, ‘Highschool Lover’, as well as the popular hit ‘Sexy Boy’. Air brought out Charli XCX, shocking fans as they performed their song ‘Cherry Blossom Girl’, from the 2004 album ‘Talkie Walkie’, together.

Back in December, when Spotify Wrapped stats were released, Charli shared that Air had been her second most listened to artist of 2024. She also re-shared a video of her performance with Air, expressing that it was a “dream come true <3″.

Charli XCX is set to perform in the UK in London and Manchester, as well as Dublin and Belfast in Ireland, this coming week. Tickets can be found here. 

Air is currently on a world tour in Europe this summer, with their Dublin, Ireland show coming up on June 17th. The band will also head to North America in the fall to continue the tour. Tickets can be booked here.

This isn’t the first time the band have been involved in an event with an emphasis on climate awareness, with their last appearance in the capital coming as part of a surprise show supporting an Extinction Rebellion protest in 2019. They also commissioned a report from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research in 2021 to assess the carbon footprint of live music, offering their findings out to event organisers in a bid to tackle the issues raised.   They put the report’s findings into place last year with their ‘Act 1.5’ shows in Bristol and Liverpool. They incorporated 25 measures that reduce the carbon footprint of the events, including incentives for fans cycling to the shows, serving plant-based foods, and using renewable energy.  

Speaking to NME in December, Robert Del Naja, one half of the duo, revealed that the band had turned down an offer to play Coachella 2025. He gave a damning critique of the event, saying, “It’s in Palm Springs. It’s a golf resort built on a desert, run on a sprinkler system, using public water supplies. Mental. If you want to see something that’s the most ludicrous bit of human behaviour – it’s right there.” Instead, they will grace a festival which has pledged to implement eco-friendly policies ranging from waste management to working with local suppliers and food partners.

Joining Massive Attack on June 6, are French electronic act Air, Forensics (the newly announced project from Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, and producer The Alchemist), and Tirzah, though more acts will be announced before the festival. Air will also join Massive Attack at INmusic festival, taking place in Zagreb between 23 and 25 June.

LIDO isn’t the only festival that has made sustainability a major consideration. Shamabala has pioneered green initiatives, from banning meat to using alternative fuels such as hydrogenated vegetable oil, solar, and hybrid power instead of diesel generators. In 2023, Glastonbury had a prominent wind turbine installed that powered food stalls. LIDO takes it one step further, suggesting the festival will be powered entirely by batteries. Zenobe provided the batteries for the ‘Act 1.5’ event, repurposing batteries from electric vehicles and giving them a second life.

Massive Attack’s activism extends beyond climate concerns too, with the band canceling a show in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, in 2024. As citizens protested against intrusions on freedom of the press and LGBT rights, the band released a statement, saying “At this moment, performing at the state-owned Black Sea Arena could be seen as an endorsement of their violent crackdown against peaceful protests and civil society”.

As LIDO Festival prepares for its maiden outing, fans of Massive Attack and the wider music community will be welcoming their push for sustainability in the live music sector, and will be hopeful that the event acts as a blueprint for others to follow. 

The Kaiser Chiefs will return to Latitude to celebrate 20 years since their debut, seven-time platinum album ‘Employment.’ The Leeds-based band burst on the scene in the mid-2000s, becoming one of Britain’s most beloved indie rock bands with their anthemic choruses and high-energy stage presence. Their fan-favourites like ‘I Predict a Riot’ and ‘Ruby’, will bring their dynamic indie rock sound back to the festival.

Leon Bridges, a soul singer-songwriter renowned for his smooth vocals and retro-inspired sound, will perform on the Saturday. Blending classic R&B with a modern twist, Bridges first captured attention with his 2015 debut album, ‘Coming Home’, an album rooted in 1960s soul.

His follow up albums ‘Good Thing’, ‘Gold-Diggers Sound’, and ‘Leon’ solidified his place in the modern soul scene and ensure that his set will be a moving performance. Alongside Latitude, he is set to play various other UK shows in July.

Sunday will see the legendary French-duo Air take the stage, transporting festival-goers to their ethereal soundscapes. N

Their live performances are renowned for being deeply immersive and mesmerising with their Latitude 2025 set expected to be a standout performance.

Among these three, the other named additional artists are Alison Moyet, Alessi Rose, Buena Vista All Stars, Example, Feeder, Palace, Pale Waves, Amble, Corto.Alto, Hamish Hawk, Infinity Song, Kingfishr, Lambrini Girls, Låpsley, MRCY, NOFUN!, Scouting for Girls, Sorry, Sprints, The Kiffness, The Royston Club, and The War and Treaty.

Latitude Festival, established in 2006, has built a reputation for its diverse blend of music, comedy, literature, and performing arts. Set in the picturesque Henham Park, the festival offers a unique cultural experience, attracting attendees with its eclectic programming and scenic surroundings.

 The 2025 festival continues this tradition, featuring a mix of established an emerging artists across varying genres. In addition to the musical acts, the comedy lineup includes Greg Davies, Bridgest Christie, Reggie Watts, and Josh Baulf.

With these additions to Latitude’s lineup, the 2025 festival is set to deliver another unforgettable weekend, celebrating both fresh voices and timeless talent.

If the project has anything in the way of themes or consistency going for it, then we may be in for another sibling album to match Air. 2019 came with albums 5 and 7, then 2020 brought Untitled (Black Is) and Untitled (Rise). 2021 then gave us Nine… which didn’t come with a pair, but maybe this can be lumped in with 5 and 7 to give us a trilogy? I don’t know. Maybe we’ll get another surprise SAULT album called Fire, or Water in the next few months… both? But Nine was given a bit of a special release last year anyway, only making itself available for 99 days after release, so maybe that one doesn’t count. Regardless of its unorthodox release, the album was still nominated for the Mercury Prize.

Air is now on sale now at SAULT’s online store. You can look into =bagging a physical copy here. Presumably, this will come with the usual proceedings we’ve come to expect. That being: not a lot. If you’re not able to get ahold of a physical copy though, you can still get usual access through streaming or Bandcamp, and I do recommend that you do. Air is a little different to SAULT’s previous output, its suspenseful choral sounds take a very different path to what we’ve heard so far. However, if you were into SAULT for Cleo Sol’s vocals then you might be disappointed with the level of input she seemed to have this time around.

Covers follows 2019’s Any Human Friend, which was widely received as some of Hackman’s best, most honest and self-proclaimed “unifying and sexy” work. Covers will likely allow Hackman to experiment musically and to pour herself into an album while at the same time taking a step back from the light that she shone on herself and her own experiences throughout Any Human Friend.

In addition to the announcement, Hackman shared one of the ten covers: a version of Grimes’ critically acclaimed ‘Realiti’. If this is a sign of what’s to come on Covers, then we should all be getting quite excited! You can listen to it below.

Hackman’s ‘Realiti’ is completely stripped back. The video that she shared sets her vocals against the visual of a car driving along a motorway at night, which produces the most distinctive feeling. Where Grimes’ original makes its mark with layers of electronic beats and synths, the power of Hackman’s version is all in her melodic, melancholic voice.

In addition to an album announcement and a song preview, Hackman has promised a live stream with her entire band on the release date. She will perform in an empty swimming pool. Tickets are available with an album pre-order, all of which can be found here. Alongside your ticket and album, Hackman instructs you to “bring your armbands.”

Speaking about the concept of the album, Hackman said, “when it comes to covers I like to pick songs which I have been listening to obsessively for a while. It gives me a natural understanding of the music, and lets me be more innovative with how I transform it.” An album dedicated to covers is a great place to really play with music and style, and it seems like this is exactly Hackman’s goal.

She has chosen to take on some major and distinctive artists, but I think we can expect to hear Beyonce like we’ve never heard her before in Hackman’s newest venture. Likewise, there are few other places that you might hear Grimes and Elliott Smith compliment one another – all in all, it points to a carefully thought out tracklist. It might be two months until anyone can get their hands on it, but already this project feels special.
