London’s enigmatic acid house duo Paranoid London, made up of Gerardo Delgado and Quinn Whalley, are back with a new single: ‘Decimated Driver’, featuring Glasgow-based band Water Machine. Released on their own label, Paranoid London Records, the 12″ dropped on November 21.

This track is quintessential Paranoid London: primitive and ruthless. At its core lies the hypnotic acid bassline, powered by their trademark 303. But it’s Water Machine’s vocal chants of “AN – TI – CI – PA – TION” that give the track an almost ritualistic quality. On the B-side, they offer a dub version: darker and moodier, built for the dancefloor, with lots of opportunities for DJs to weave in more stripped back sections.

According to their Instagram announcement, ‘Decimated Driver’ was road-tested across festival sets during the summer, giving it that crackling energy born from sweat and late-night hardware sessions. The production is still very much the raw, stripped-down acid aesthetic we’re used to but there is definitely a slightly polished edge to it, a nice surprise, showing that they are embracing new ideas.

This latest release follows Paranoid London’s recent string of vinyl drops, including their earlier 2025 single ‘Talk Dirty / Revolution’. However, ’Decimated Driver’ marks an interesting collaboration and bringing in Water Machine definitely gives the track a different melodic and vocal quality, while still fully embracing Paranoid London’s acid-punk identity.

Paranoid London’s live plans show a busy year-end and early-2026: they’re listed to play Wonderfruit Festival (Thailand) on December 11 2025, and they’re billed for the XXXLarge Day & Night Festival at The Cause in London on New Year’s Eve. All event information is available on Resident Advisor.

Paranoid London continue to make acid house that lives on its own terms: gritty, raw, and not afraid to experiment. With the help of Water Machine’s haunting chants, they’ve made a track that’s both dancefloor ready and emotionally resonant. For fans of analogue hardware, underground house, and boundary-pushing electronic music, this is Paranoid London doing just that.

The new single is available on vinyl and digital download here.

The Block9 section of the festival is home to 5 stages: Block9, The Meat Rack, NYC Downlow, IICON and GENOSYS. Paranoid London are set to play a live performance on the IICON stage on Friday Night. Making it’s debut in 2019, IICON’s identity has quickly earned it’s place as one of the many great spectacles of the Glastonbury landscape.

In the festival’s own words, “Taking the form of a colossal, anonymised head, IICON is a pseudo-religious monument to the terrifying new realities emerging in our digital, post-truth age.” (Glastonbury)

2025 will mark the 3rd consecutive year that the duo have graced the stage at Worthy Farm, after a performance at Shangri-La 2023, and The Lonely Hearts Club in 2024.

Since their formation in the early 2010s, Paranoid London have always had a cult following within the acid house scene, especially in South London. But despite remaining relatively underground, the duo have undoubtedly earned their place on this year’s IICON stage, having worked their up the Glastonbury ranks.

Their slot at Glastonbury will come after what has been a relatively quiet start to 2025 for the band. Besides a number of sporadic London shows and an exclusive Record Store Day live show at Phonica Records, have taken a steady start to the year, perhaps in anticipation for their flagship set on the IICON stage. Alternatively, this could just a well deserved rest for the band, after a busy tour schedule in the later months of 2024.

Member, Quinn Whalley, is also one sixth of the renowned London ‘Disco-Punk’ group, Warmduscher, and has also recently embarked on a new project, 3 piece electronic outfit, Hackney Electronica, who have recently released their debut EP on Dark Entries Records.

The duo are currently in the US, moving onto a date in Mexico, before returning for Glastonbury at the end of June.

Music is available on all major streaming platforms and physical copies can be purchased here.

808 State were a band born in Manchester during the height of rave culture, helping bring about the birth of house and techno music. Described by NME as ‘acid house pioneers’, the group were influential in the ‘Madchester’ scene, which Dale Grogan of ‘Skiddle’ describes as combining acid house and psychedelic indie music, giving us groups such as Happy Mondays, Stone Roses and 808 State themselves. They were known for top 10 hits such as “Pacific State”, which gave them recognition after being picked up by BBC Radio 1 back in 1989. Considered important influences by well-known groups like Aphex Twin and The Chemical Brothers, many famous names have taken to Twitter to offer their condolences, including Liam Gallagher (of Oasis) and Rowetta Idah (of Happy Mondays).

Andy barker RIP — Liam Gallagher (@liamgallagher) November 8, 2021

Barker had begun DJing at the age of fourteen after having been influenced by hip-hop and electronic music. In a 2019 interview, he said: ‘By the time I was old enough to go out clubbing, house music had arrived. The similarity between electro and house was what seduced me to the new genre. It had a huge influence on what I was playing in my sets and creating in the studio.’

The band was founded in 1987 by members Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson, the latter of whom left in 1989 to form his own outfit, A Guy Called Gerald. In his place, Barker’s duo outfit – Spinmasters – joined the group. They went on to have several successful albums, such as 1989’s 90, which was described by Slant Magazine as a ‘thrilling expansion of the possibilities for acid house and arguably the best LP ever produced in the style’. Collaborating with well-known artists such as Bjork and Bernard Sumner of New Order for their 1991 album Ex:el, the band were at the centre of the early nineties acid house craze.

In recent years the band’s membership had been whittled down to just two, founding member Graham Massey and Barker himself. The band has been active even in recent times, their latest album, Transmission Suite, having been released in 2019. 808 State had recently finished their 2021 Autumn tour last Friday with a performance at the Liverpool Arts Club. Since Barker’s death, Graham Massey has become the sole remaining member of the group.
