A Place to Bury Strangers have followed up their critically acclaimed new album from last week with a new music video, accompanying their single “My Head is Bleeding“. The album, titled See Through You, came out February 4th and has received a run of positive reviews. mxdwn magazine calls it “an exciting and powerful record”, and BrooklynVegan argues that “Oliver Ackermann reinvents his noise-psych band as a lean, mean and still strange machine on the band’s excellent sixth album.“

Ackermann describes the new single as being “about internally begging to a God when you might not necessarily believe in one. It’s that moment where there’s just a sliver of hope that anything in your head might connect you with the Universe and actually make a change.“

Following on in their series of grizzly horror-themed music videos, Travis Stevens is the latest pick, known for such features as Jakob’s Wife and Girl on the Third Floor. And they obviously made the right pick. Stevens was dedicated to the task of putting the unique sounds of APTBS to video, stating that “The entire album rips but there’s a plea to transform suffering into joy in this song that I really sparked to. In order to emulate the raw unpredictability of an APTBS performance, I tried to create a similar magical combination of flesh, emotion, intuition and technology.“

Other horror directors the band have used over the previous months include Chad Crawford Kinkle for the single “I’m Hurt“, as well as Keith Thomas for the single “I Disappear (When You’re Near)“. The videos typically depict some macabre setting, such as two women fighting to the death in the latter. The band’s press release has a fittingly gory description of their latest video, citing that “flesh and blood commingle in a pileup of heaving, mysterious biomass as a mechanical womb gives birth to an oily, ectoplasmic form”.
If you want to purchase or stream the new album, you can look at this link here. As for seeing them live, a new tour of theirs kicked off just yesterday down in Warsaw, and will take them all over America and Europe, visiting the likes of Seattle, Vancouver, Philadelphia and plenty more. As for their European fans, Budapest, Munich and Zurich are just some of the places they’ll be getting to soon enough. The full list of tour dates can be seen at their website here. They have only one UK venture planned as of now, coming to London’s Lafayette on April 2nd.

The post-punk noise group are back again, this time with a whole new album in tow. A Place to Bury Strangers (APTBS) released their anticipated sixth studio album last Friday, titled See Through You, and have even gone the extra mile with a brand new music video to match.

Made for the track “I Disappear (When You’re Near)”, it’s the second APTBS music video to be directed by someone from the horror genre, after the Chad Crawford Kinkle video for “I’m Hurt“ a couple of weeks back (Kinkle being known for films such as Dementer and Jug Face).

This time around, director Keith Thomas was behind the camera. Thomas is well known for such career-highlights as The Vigil and the upcoming Stephen King adaptation Firestarter. Bringing his talents to the noise-rock genre, he said that “I’ve always wanted to dig into music videos ….. ‘I Disappear (When You’re Near)’ is a great, enigmatic song and I wanted to give it an enigmatic visual component.“

To be fair though, the video speaks for itself, at least in terms of blood-lust and gore. Featuring a fight to the death between two women, Kika Magalhaes (from The Eyes of My Mother) and Malky Goldman (who starred in Thomas’ The Vigil), it’s just a normal Sunday afternoon for APTBS. Their press release says that “Thomas’ practical effects wizardry is on display throughout, with each gory set-piece accumulating in terror until the final splatter-filled curtain call“.

The track has become the fourth single released from the new album, after tracks “Let’s See Each Other“, “Hold on Tight“ and “I’m Hurt“. The press release says “I Disappear (When You’re Near)” wrestles “with self-destructive impulses masquerading as a path towards redemption“, with “Ackermann’s pained vocal [seeking] cover in layers of distortion and reverb — begging for more and more until it becomes indistinguishable from noise and desire“.

As for touring, the band have announced their new schedule for a tour of the US, which had to be delayed from the original January-February time due to the pandemic. It will now be taking place in May-June, alongside a visit to Europe around March-April (they’ll be visiting London on April 2nd). More details can be seen here.

As for See Through You, if you want to stream it, you can go here. If you want to purchase it, then look here. As for a vinyl release, you’ll have to wait until March 11th. As for more guts and gore videos for the new album, we’ll just have to wait and see what’s coming next from the dark minds of APTBS.

New York-based noise rock band a Place To Bury Strangers have announced their 6th album See Through you, set to be released February 4th 2022 through their new label Dedstrange. The band have also released a teaser track “Let’s See Each Other” and an accompanying video directed by Davy Pelletier, the band has promised that the new music will be an “Epic, instant classic.”. Pre-order the album here.

“Let’s See Each Other” is an intimate and disarming love song from a forgotten future, combining elements of post-punk, noise-rock, shoegaze, psychedelia, and avant-garde music in startling and unexpected ways. Syncopated memories and deconstructed fantasies of lovers lost in a city that doesn’t know their names. The video features the band destroying the song while imploring people to reunite.
