67 return with new single ‘Crazy Year’, featuring vocals from Dimzy and LD (also known as Scribz), who star in the accompanying animated music video. The track is 67’s first release of 2021, the notorious drill outfit having produced the album ‘Quarantined’ and a handful of singles in 2020 despite enduring legal issues and the testing ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic.

‘Crazy Year’ is an aptly named retrospective report of the last 12 months. Dimzy reflects on his perennial work rate while lamenting his disappointing earnings throughout 2020: “Still working hard all year, been a crazy year… I make so much racks but I shoulda made a million, but I’m nowhere near.”

The music video features animated caricatures of the two drillers posing in front of an animated backdrop of London’s skyline, spliced with occasional flashes of lyricism on screen as well as videos and photographs of the artists.

In 2020 Dimzy released a number of singles, including the tracks ‘Burn It’ and ‘Freedom’s a Must’, as well as a collaborative ep ‘Miserable Hill’, featuring Ross Belly and Chelsi Lauren. With the lives of multiple 67 members shrouded in legal controversy, Dimzy has undertaken a more ambassadorial role for the group in the last year. Being their most prolific driller, Dimzy has attempted to propel both his career and group into a further mainstream light – collaborating with more widely recognised artists such as Mike Skinner of The Streets on the track ‘Surrounded’, produced by long time collaborators Carns Hill and Sapphire Beatsz.

On ‘Crazy Year’ both Dimzy and LD maintain 67’s characteristically braggadocios lyricism of London’s violent underworld, despite lingering legal issues engendered by their often illicit lifestyles: “spent ’nuff racks on life and bills… spent ’nuff racks on war and waps… the block’s too flamin’ hot like Dubai, I love being here but I hate being here.”

In December 2019, LD was found guilty of conspiracy to supply heroin and crack cocaine and sentenced to four-and-a-half-years in prison, along with fellow 67 member ASAP, who received the same sentence. Since going to prison, LD’s team have continued to release pre-recorded content under his name, including ‘DRILLMAN’, ‘Outro’, ‘Free Smoke’ and several other singles in 2020. In June it was announced via the drill artist’s instagram page that another of his cases had been dropped. The post was captioned: “Just beat another case 2021 is gonna be a beautiful year. AMEN.”
