The grainy VHS footage features Yorke performing an acoustic set at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, Canada on March 28, 1995.

In the video, he performs ‘(Nice Dream)’, ‘High and Dry’ ‘Street Spirit (Fade Out)’ and ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ from the album, as well as ‘Thinking About You’ from Radiohead’s debut ‘Pablo Honey’.

An album full of arty, guitar-driven anthems, ‘The Bends’ helped to propel Radiohead to further heights than before, reaching number 4 on the UK Albums Chart, higher than ‘Pablo Honey‘, which peaked at 22.

It was record made under pressure. Thom Yorke told NME in 1993 “I’m fucking ill and physically I’m completely fucked and mentally I’ve had enough,” from the pressure of trying to recapture the success of the band’s breakout single ‘Creep’ and a gruelling touring schedule.

In early 1994, more stress came for the band as they were told by their label EMI that they only had nine weeks to come up with new album. Thom Yorke channelled those anxieties and tensions into his songwriting, delivering an emotional work that mixed more tender moments with harder guitar riffs.

The album is noted for starting a shift in British rock music away from the ‘lad-rock’ Britpop of the time to more sensitive, alt/indie stylings of groups like Snow Patrol and Coldplay. In a retrospective write-up, The Telegraph said “The Oxford quintet’s second album may have lacked the headline-grabbing ker-pow of the Blur vs Oasis chart battle of August 1995, but The Bends spawned something far more consequential: decades of “bedwetter” music.”

Last week, the band formed a new legal entity with the name RHEUK25, leading many to believe this could signal significant new activity for Radiohead in 2025.

LLP’s (limited liability partnership’s) allow Radiohead to operate their business affairs independently of record labels and external companies. They have done this in the past when they’re about to announce a new album, tour or reissue.

For example, the bands last album, ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ from 2016, was released just after registration of the Dawn Chorus LLP.

Recently, Yorke has teamed up with producer Mark Pritchard for a collaborative album. Their debut LP together ‘Tall Tales’ will be released on May 9 through Warp Records. They’ve released their first single, ‘This Conversation Is Missing Your Voice’, an electronica influenced track with an artsy video. You can see our writeup on that here.

With the debut of their maiden album, the eponymous album, on the horizon, Korn is teasing their fans with the prospect of a colossus of a show.

And, yes, it has been 30 years since the appearance of Korn. Their debut, self-titled album, turns 30 in October, and the band teased what looks to be a huge headline show.

The legends from Bakersfield, California, took to social media and posted a video of the band’s iconic record cover with the number 30 emblazoned on it in place of the band name’s usual spot.

Naturally, this doesn’t necessarily mean anything. But the fact that promoters Live Nation and California’s BMO Stadium’s social accounts have also shared the same teaser has really caught the eye. This leaves us with the potential image of Korn playing their debut album in full in front of thousands of adoring fans in Los Angeles.

It is not clear yet whether this would be a one-off show or maybe even a tour, but what we do know is that an announcement is due to be made later today (March 5th)—so we won’t have long to wait.

Korn is a nu-metal band from Bakersfield in California that was formed in 1993. Heralded as pioneers of the ‘nu metal’ genre, the band was among the first to bring the genre to the masses.

Initially formed in 1993 by three members of the band L.A.P.D., Korn’s current line-up features founding members James “Munky” Shaffer (guitar); Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu (bass); Brian “Head” Welch (guitar, backing vocals); and Jonathan Davis (lead vocals, bagpipes), with the addition of Ray Luzier (drums) in 2007, replacing the band’s first drummer David Silveria. As of 2021, Korn had sold more than 40 million records worldwide, and 12 of the band’s official releases have peaked in the top ten of the Billboard 200, eight of which have peaked in the top five. Seven official releases are certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA); two are double platinum; one is triple platinum; one is certified five times platinum; and two are certified gold.

The band also has an incredible 14 studio albums, seven video albums, and 5o music videos. And the fact that it has been 30 years since their debut is a testament to their longevity.

Korn will be back in the UK this summer for several shows, including their biggest-ever headline date on this side of the pond.

Liam announced his plans to celebrate the Definitely Maybe anniversary earlier this year, promising to play the album in full in its original order. He took to Twitter, sharing his plans to play in “biblical venues” to honour the album.

When officially announcing the tour, Liam said, “I’m bouncing around the house to announce the ‘Definitely Maybe’ Tour. The most important album of the ‘90s bar none. I wouldn’t be anywhere without it and neither would you, so let’s celebrate together LG x.” This week, a fan asked if he planned to play any solo material to close the show to which Liam replied, “no solo stuffs.”

Liam has been regularly dropping hints about what fans can expect from the tour, promising B-side performances. Taking to Twitter once again, Liam shared his plans to perform Oasis’ cover version of “I Am The Walrus” by The Beatles amongst other unexpected tracks.

Noel Gallagher has also shared his plans to celebrate Definitely Maybe‘s 30th anniversary, confirming that the album will be reissued. The reissue will include tracks that were previously lost, with Noel sharing, “In the Sony archives we’ve found tapes dating to those sessions. We thought they were lost, but they were mislabelled. They are wonderful versions of those songs, some acoustic versions.”

Noel has denied the possibility of an Oasis reunion however, saying, “There won’t be a tour. We won’t come back to play them together.”

In Utero was an instant critical and commercial success, debuting at No.1 on the UK Albums Chart and No.1 on the US Billboard 200. The album included iconic tracks such as “Heart-Shaped Box,” “Dumb” and “Rape Me.” To celebrate its 30th anniversary, a special edition reissue of the album was released last week.

Speaking on the album’s impact, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic said, “When you listen to it, it goes somewhere. It’s dark, it’s beautiful, it’s all points in between. It’s bittersweet. We recorded it in about a week and a few of the songs were the first take. We were well-rehearsed and loved playing together. That was our glue as a band. We played live and it was live to tape.”

Novoselic continued, “It’s amazing what can happen when three people with instruments get together. You could make so much sound in a way that captures the imagination. That’s the beauty of music: you invite people in. The record can be pretty, but it can also be dark. Going back to this record, I was just reminded of our humanity as a group. There were a lot of different statements on there and that’s what you get: the post-’Nevermind’ Nirvana, after becoming a world-famous band.”

The 30th anniversary reissue of In Utero has been released in several formats, including a limited-edition eight LP super deluxe box set, a five CD super deluxe box set and a digital super deluxe edition, amongst others.

Novoselic shared his thoughts on the reissue, saying, “This one’s got a lot of cool things like backstage passes and little things you can hold, like The Who’s ‘Live At Leeds’ record.”

He continued, “I’m excited about the live shows on there, because they used AI. We took the digital audio tapes from the soundboard in Rome, Seattle and Los Angeles, then the AI can separate all the instruments and we got a really good mix out of it.”

In response to fan questions on whether the artist will also be performing any of the album’s b-sides, Gallagher responded with an emphatic yes. He added, ““of course your getting it all (‘Definitely Maybe’) and a few Norty b sides might even roll out (Oasis’ cover of The Beatles‘) ‘I Am The Walrus’ just for crocs n boob tubes.”

With the relationship struggles between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher well documented, Liam has decided to tour Definitely Maybe alone and independently as Noel has unequivocally dashed the idea of a reunion happening any time in the near future. There are however, plans in the works to provide the album with a 30th anniversary reissue with Noel sharing that the record will feature a few lost songs.

Speaking to Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera, Noel said, “In the Sony archives we’ve found tapes dating to those sessions. We thought they were lost, but they were mislabelled. They are wonderful versions of those songs, some acoustic versions.” 

Recorded and released in 1994, Definitely Maybe announced Oasis onto the music scene and shot the band into instant success and popularity. The album was critically praised and heralded a new awakening for interest in Britpop, with many publications citing the effort as one of the greatest albums ever recorded.

The album spawned hit singles that remain some of the band’s most recognisable and fan favourite songs including, “Supersonic,” “Shakermaker,” and “Live Forever.” The album cemented Oasis as a household name on both sides of the Atlantic and served as the catalyst for the band’s highly successful career.

Hogmanay is the Scottish celebration of the New Year, and typically involves gift giving, bonfires and other festivities. Edinburgh’s Hogmanay festival is one of the largest of its kind, and was even recognised by the Guinness Book Of World Records in their 1996-97 edition as the largest New Year’s party, with approximately 400,000 people in attendance that year.

The upcoming event will mark pop band Pulp‘s first live show in the Scottish capital in over 20 years. Attendees will be able to celebrate the New Year as they watch Pulp perform against the surreal backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.

Pulp lead singer Jarvis Cocker said on the band’s upcoming appearance at ‘Concert In The Gardens’, “When your grandkids ask “Do you remember the first time Pulp played Edinburgh’s Hogmanay?” What will your answer be? Come along & start 2024 in the very best way possible. Oh yes.”

Directors of UniqueAssembly, which creates and produces Edinburgh’s Hogmanay on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council, said: “Reaching the milestone 30th anniversary for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is a phenomenal achievement, which since 1993 has welcomed millions of party people to celebrate at the Home of Hogmanay.

“We wanted to make sure that this year was extra special for our audiences and are thrilled to welcome Pulp to the party. This will be the hottest ticket in town, and we recommend people grab their tickets fast to make sure they don’t miss out.”

Other events taking place at this year’s Hogmanay festival include a street party, silent disco, a torchlight procession and many more activities yet to be announced.

For those registered with the Hogmanay website, a pre-sale for the ‘Concert In The Gardens’ will be available from 10am on Thursday 28th September.

Speculations surrounding the iconic girl-group have been circulating for months, and with 2024 marking three decades since their initial formation, fans have been calling for a special Pyramid Stage reunion. The hypothetical performance would see the group return to the stage for the first time since 2019, when four out of five members – Mel C, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Horner – last toured together.

Now, in an interview with The Sunday Times, Horner has dismissed these claims as untrue, insisting that plans for any kind of appearance at the world-famous UK festival are not on the cards. The singer did, however, provide Spice Girl hopefuls with some consolation, teasing that “at some point there will be something”. 

Rumours regarding a 2024 reunion gained momentum earlier this year after a report by The Sun claimed the members were in talks to reform for a surprise performance on the main stage at Glastonbury. A source allegedly told the tabloid: 

“Victoria will be 50 next year, and the girls turning 30 seems like two ­anniversaries too good to miss. The group have been in talks to headline Glastonbury and this would sit with Victoria’s ‘cool’ aesthetic. All five are on board to mark 30 years in some way, shape or form. It’s very exciting.”

A proper reunion, of course, wouldn’t be complete without Victoria Beckham, a.k.a. Posh Spice, who last performed with the Spice Girls at the London Olympics closing ceremony in 2012. The fashionista continues to carve herself a prodigious career as a successful businesswomen and has always maintained that she is too busy to find time for her old pop group.

In 2022, upon being inquired about the possibility of returning, Beckham explained: 

“I had so much fun being in the Spice Girls. But I think that now, with everything else that I’ve got going on with my fashion, and my beauty line, four children, I couldn’t commit to that.”

Earlier this year, however, Mel B hinted to The Sun that, even despite Beckham’s busy schedule, a reunion could be imminent: 

“We’re just finishing off perfecting what we’re going to be doing together, all five of us, but it’s going to be something that the fans are really going to love. Obviously she’s [Victoria] got a bunch of kids so it’s just about finding the right time and we’ve managed to do that so there should be an announcement pretty soon.”

The show will celebrate the release of Gallagher’s new live album, Knebworth 22, due to come out on 11th August 2023. The intimate performance will allow fans the opportunity to hear tracks from both his solo discography and that of Oasis, with Liam taking to Twitter to call the news of the gig “biblical.”

Liam’s performance at KOKO is set to be his only indoor UK gig scheduled for 2023, though he is set to perform at various UK festivals throughout the year.

Speaking on the release of Knebworth 22, Liam said, “So we recorded the Knebworth gigs we did last year. We all sound BIBLICAL, turn it up ENJOY, LGx.” Liam played two sold-out nights at Knebworth back in June 2022, with over 170,000 fans attending the shows which were reminiscent of the iconic 1996 Oasis Knebworth performance.

Liam announced the news of the live album by sharing the live recording of an Oasis deep cut, “Roll It Over,” taken from one of his Knebworth 22 shows. The track was originally featured on Oasis’ fourth studio album, Standing on the Shoulders of Giants, and had never been performed live by the band.

Pre-sale tickets for the album launch show will go on sale at 10am BST on 5th July, with an exclusive presale code being offered to all fans who pre-order a copy of Knebworth 22 before 3pm on 4th July. The code will be sent out at 5pm on the 4th. Pre-order Knebworth 22 here.

No concrete plans for this tour have been announced as of yet, though one can assume that Liam will take to Twitter as usual to keep his fans in the loop when details materialise.

While it is not yet known where these so-called biblical venues will be located, one thing that is abundantly clear is that these shows will sell out and sell out fast, given Liam’s, and Oasis’ in general, tremendously huge fan base and the popularity of the seminal LP.

Recorded at Sawmill Studios in Cornwall in January 1994 and mastered by Owen Morris later on in Manchester, Definitely Maybe was released later the same year by Creation Records on 29th August to immediate widespread critical acclaim. Following the release of singles “Supersonic“, “Shakermaker” and “Live Forever“, the album went straight to number one in the UK Albums Chart and subsequently became the fastest-selling debut album in the UK at the time.

Definitely Maybe thereby cemented Oasis’ position as one of the best bands in the UK at the time, and helped instigate a surge in popularity of the britpop genre. The LP continually ranks extremely highly amongst fans and critics of the band alike and ultimately set Oasis on the road to attaining rock and roll legendary status.

In addition to Liam’s live shows, his brother Noel, last month, too expressed a wish to celebrate the anniversary of the release, this time by way of a 2024 reissue of the album. The reissue will feature acoustic, never heard before versions of “Live Forever“, “Supersonic” and “Slide Away“, and the prospect of both brothers celebrating the 30th anniversary next year, albeit in different ways, will surely leave fans salivating at the idea of a possible reunion.

Noel, however, undoubtedly piling on the misery to fans persisting on a reunion, unfortunately quashed hopes of the band performing together again in announcing the aforementioned reissue, claiming, in an interview with NME, that there “won’t be a tour” and that “we won’t come back to play them together“.

Regardless, Oasis fans can find solace in the fact that both brothers will be doing something, at least, to celebrate one of the group’s finest and most successful albums.

Later…With Jools Holland first aired on 8th October 1992 and was initially intended to be a spin-off from the BBC 2 arts programme The Late Show, which in turn found popularity after the cancellation of The Old Grey Whistle Test. With over 60 series and over 450 episodes, Later…With Jools Holland is considered an institution within music and British culture. The programme soon became a favourite among die-hard music fans due to its variety of guests and ability to bring up-and-coming acts to the living rooms of the British public.

Many popular artists owe their blossoming careers to their UK television debuts courtesy of Later…With Jools Holland, the long list includes Amy Winehouse, Adele, Arctic Monkeys, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys, Kings of Leon, Kanye West, Metallica, Mary J Blige, Norah Jones, Taylor Swift, Stormzy and The Weeknd, plus numerous others. Executive Producer Alison Howe has also given a statement,  “Later…reaching its 30th birthday is testament to Jools, all the incredible musicians who have supported us and our crew whose love and commitment of showcasing live music for the audience is unmatched. With our upcoming series, this special show and our 30th Annual Hootenanny, it’s going to be an incredible three months of live music.”

Director of Music, BBC Lorna Clarke states, “The BBC’s commitment to live music remains strong and in a year which has seen the return of live music performance, I’m hugely proud that after 30 incredible years, Later…with Jools Holland is still busy unearthing the superstars of tomorrow as well as featuring some of the world’s best-loved musicians, all to entertain the music-loving BBC viewers at home.”

A new series of the regular format of Later…With Jools Holland is also set to kick off this autumn, series 61 will be aired on 1st October 2022. The upcoming series will be available to watch on BBC Two and digitally via BBC iPlayer. Scheduled to appear with Holland are an array of guests from various eras and genres, confirmed to appear include Self Esteem, The 1975, Victoria Canal, Loyle Carner, Ural Thomas, Marcus Mumford, Burna Boy, The Big Moon, Phoenix and PVA.
