The former One Direction bandmember was forced to reschedule the Chicago opening of his Love on Tour just hours before curtain, Styles has cited the reason as “Out of an abundance of caution”. The venue took to Twitter to explain the situation, “Out of an abundance of caution, tonight’s Harry Styles show on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at United Center has been rescheduled to Monday, October 10, 2022 due to band/crew illness. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date. All additional show dates will play as scheduled. The beloved Chicago venue took to Twitter again to confirm further details concerning wristbands, an issued statement continued, “The numbered wristbands given on Thursday, Oct. 6 for GA will be honoured on the rescheduled date of Monday, Oct. 10. Guests can line up in the previous order given as long as they arrive before 5 PM on Monday, Oct. 10. Any numbered wristband arriving after 5 PM will be placed in line after the last guest in line.”

The message continued, “Original numbered wristband must be presented on Monday, Oct. 10 to be honoured. Guests without previous numbered wristbands will be placed in line after the last guest in line.” No further details confirming the origins of the illness or parties involved have been confirmed, such information has yet to be given by a spokesperson for the singer.

Styles’ famed Love On Tour was originally scheduled to consist of six dates at Chicago’s United Centre, initially meant to start on 8th October 2022 the residency was to last until 15th October 2022. Styles’ career-defining tour is next scheduled to stop in California on 23rd October 2022 and consists of fifteen dates at Inglewood venue Kia Forum. After his final set in California on 15th November 2022, Styles will play at the Mexican city Monterrey before performing over two dates in Mexico City on 24th and 25th November 2022.

After several seasons performing across the world, Styles will return home to the UK to perform across four dates with support from Wet Leg. The British Indie band will take over from the previous supporting act Koffee when Styles performs in Australia on 20th February 2023, the band will continue with Styles across Australia and Europe before returning to the UK with the “Watermelon Sugar” singer. Both acts will take to Coventry’s Building Society Arena on 22nd and 23rd May 2023, before heading back to Europe Styles and Wet Leg will perform at Edinburgh’s BT Murrayfield Stadium on 26th and 27th May 2023.

The group includes founding member and guitarist/vocalist Murray Lightburn and vocalist/pianist Natalia Yanchak, the husband and wife duo have remained at the helm since its formation in the 90s. After The Dears released their debut album in 2000, they quickly amassed a loyal following and received praise from critics and fans alike. Entitled End Of A Hollywood Bedtime Story, the album caught the attention of music fans and The Dears were placed at the forefront of a resurgence of popularity for Indie rock in Canada. The group’s recent release marked their eighth studio album, Lovers Rock was released in 2020 and was met with critical acclaim and rave reviews.

The band had initially planned to tour in support of Lovers Rock two years ago but due to COVID and the subsequent lockdowns, they were forced to postpone any live performances of its material.  Speaking in a press release, Yanchak has given the following statement, “After all this time, the re-re-scheduling of tour dates and the re-re-re-anticipation of playing shows — it’s a little hard to believe these shows are finally going to happen. We originally released ‘Lovers Rock’ in 2020. It was an album we were, and are still, very proud of. So it was hard to put out a record and then not play a single one of those songs live. We did a streaming show, but it’s just not the same as being in the same sweaty club, all together.”

The album saw Lightburn and Yanchak work with long-time drummer Jeff Luciani, guitarist Steve Raegele and bassist Remi-Jean LeBlanc. Along with a full-string section, Lovers Rock features E Street Band’s Jake Clemons and Alex Francoeur on saxophone. Also included in the album is Sam Roberts, the fellow Montréal-based musician also known for his work within Canada’s indie rock scene.

Lightburn gives the following statement concerning the group, “The Dears aren’t fucking around, We don’t have time to waste. We’ve got a job to do. And we’re going to do it. 20 years ago, I knew I had a sound in my head, but I didn’t know how to get that down. Now I know how to get that sound. The question we’re asking in the music is, ‘how do we navigate so much bullshit in this world?’, We’re still playing this dumb rock music. But there’s always gonna be a little twist of the knife, cutting into something deep to make you feel like you’re alive. To say, ‘I know what you’re going through. And I’m hearing you, and I’m with you.’ That’s what the music is supposed to do.”

The Dears’ six-date UK tour kicks off on 30th September 2022 with a set at Cambridge’s Portland Arms, the band will then play Liverpool’s Zanzibar on 1st October 2022. After a set in Manchester on 4th October 2022, the group will perform in the capital at Highbury’s The Garage with support from Perfect Son. Smith is most famous for playing lead guitar for seminal English post-punk band The Fall, playing with the band between 1983-1989 and a second stint from 1994-1996. Smith grew up in Los Angeles, moving to Chicago in 1972, where she became a punk, playing The Clash’s “The Guns of Brixton” so often that her friends nicknamed her Brixton, later shortened to Brix.

Telling The Guardian back in 2016 about hearing The Fall for the first time, she said, “something hit me so hard I became obsessed with them, though not in a psycho fan way. I listened to Slates over and over and over until I understood it, internalised it and then could move”.

Her life changed dramatically after a chance meeting with The Fall’s lead singer, Mark E. Smith, at a gig at the Metro in Chicago in 1983. The two hit it off, “I had found my soulmate,” Smith told The Guardian. The couple moved to Manchester and were married two months later in Bury; she was only twenty and he was twenty-six at the time and they had known each other for less than six months.

She joined the band, singing and playing the guitar on The Fall’s 1983 album Perverted by Language bringing more of a mainstream sound to the band. She left the band for the first time in 1989 when the two divorced. Since The Fall, Smith has started the bands The Adult Net and Brix & the Extricated and spent a whirlwind 24hrs in Courtney Love’s band Hole.

Back in February, Smith told NME, “This is the announcement: I’m going out on the road with an all-female band. I’m going under the name Brix Smith or possibly Brix Smith Group, I haven’t decided yet. It’s time for me to put my money where my mouth is and take it out there! All of us are between 40 and 60 and they’re all top post-punk feminists.”

On the upcoming tour, NME reported Smith’s feelings, “I’m so excited to be playing these iconic intimate club shows in October with my amazing supergroup of phenomenal women players. Smith will also be releasing her debut solo album, Valley of The Dolls, early next year, featuring contributions from Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama and Shakespeares Sister and Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles. Despite this causing a stir, the system has actually been in place since 2011 and was set up to battle touting by ensuring fans have access to the the most in-demand tickets. The Ticketmaster website says “The prices are adjusted according to supply and demand. The goal is to give fans fair and safe access to in demand tickets, while allowing the artists and everyone involved in staging live events to price tickets closer to their true value.” Some have speculated that this approach is preferable to lining the pockets of those purchasing tickets to only resell. However, in the UK it has been illegal for people to sell tickets for live events, matches, and concerts for more than face value Since 31 July 2021.

Though some artists may welcome the dynamic pricing structure, others claim to have had no knowledge of it and are said to disagree with its practices. Back in 2020, Australian rock band, Crowded House released a statement on Twitter indicating that they were not aware of the system and had not approved the program. They approached Live Nation and requested that any ticket holders who had paid over face-value were to be reimbursed.

There’s no doubt that since the pandemic, fans are thrilled that music has come back with a bang. A Wall Street Journal investigation from 2019, found the average ticket price to attend the Top 100 US tours increased up 55% in the last ten years and with the ongoing effects of inflation, and the pandemic, it is no surprise that music’s comeback will come at a cost.

BFB stated yesterday (the 21^st of July) that the number of British artists set to perform in Europe for this year’s festival season has decreased by 45 per cent when compared to 2017-2019 (pre-Brexit). The incursions largely being down to a lack of visa-free travel and work permits that are applicable across Europe for musicians and crew. Artists attempting to set out on tour once again after Covid have found themselves tangled in the red tape created by Brexit.

The CEO of Best For Britain, Naomi Smith broke down the meaning behind their discovery; “The Beatles famously made their name in Europe and it’s on tour that many musicians gain the formative experiences and audiences they need to take off. With their dud Brexit deal, our lame duck Government has not only robbed emerging British talent of these opportunities abroad, but has also made international acts think twice before including Glasgow or London in their European tours.”

Deborah Annetts, The Chief Executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and UK Trade and Business Commissioner, stated; “Previous witnesses to our commission have described how, if you’re a festival organiser in Barcelona who needs to fill a last-minute slot, British bands will be at the bottom of your list due to new barriers created by this botched Brexit deal. Whoever ends up replacing Boris Johnson must commit to removing this needless bureaucracy which is stifling the prosperity and creativity of the next generation of British musicians.”

The Ealing-born band White Lies are a prime example of the toll Brexit is taking on acts and artists in the UK. As they were forced to cancel their 2022 European tour in Paris in April 2022, with their equipment being held for 2 days after issues with; “Brexit legislation”.

Jack Lawrence- Brown, the band’s drummer elaborated on the situation; “We’d done our best to ensure that we’d be prepared in any circumstance. It’s very frustrating when you prepare for as long as we have to then rock up to the first venue and find that your equipment has been stuck in a 25-mile-long queue on the M20 through no fault of your own, and no fault of the trucking company either. It wasn’t the plan that we’d worked hard to get right.”

“I have no idea what or who the Weekend is, because I don’t listen to much music,” he said. “People have told me he’s a big act. Well, good luck to him. I’ve got nothing against him. Would it not have been possible to review his show one night and my show another night?” He went on to say, “I’m not trying to make a personal attack. I’m just saying it seemed odd.” Not happy to leave it there, he turned his sights on the Weekend’s fellow countryman Drake, “By the way, with all due respect to the Weekend or Drake or any of them, I am far, far, far more important than any of them will ever be, however many billions of streams they’ve got,” Waters said. “There is stuff going on here that is fundamentally important to all of our lives.”

Waters initially announced the details for his This Is Not A Drill Tour in January 2020. due to COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdowns the tour was unfortunately postponed until this year. Waters said in a video announcement back in 2020, “As the clock ticks faster and faster and faster down to extinction, it seemed like a good thing to make a fuss about it, so that’s why I’m going on the road,” he said. “To be blunt, we need to change the way we organize ourselves as a human race or die. This tour will be part of a global movement by people who are concerned by others to affect the change that is necessary. That’s why we’re going on the road. That’s why this conversation should be on everybody’s lips, constantly, the whole time, because it’s super important. So I hope you’ll all come to the shows. This is not a drill.”

In a statement for the tour Waters elaborated more, “This Is Not A Drill is a ground-breaking new rock & roll/cinematic extravaganza, performed in the round. It is a stunning indictment of the corporate dystopia in which we all struggle to survive, and a call to action to love, protect, and share our precious and precarious planet home. The show includes a dozen great songs from Pink Floyd’s Golden Era alongside several new ones — words and music, same writer, same heart, same soul, same man. Could be his last hurrah. Wow! My first farewell tour! Don’t miss it. Love, R.”

Walters feels that His This is Not a Drill tour carries an urgent message but The Weeknd’s After Hours ‘Til Dawn tour is a career-spanning extravaganza that Rolling Stone says is worth the wait.

Neil has released a statement concerning the news, “To receive this doctorate is an honour I could never have expected. To receive it in Glasgow, a city that has featured so long and so supportively in the band’s story, is the stuff of dreams. I am also proud to be connected to such a forward-thinking institution as Caledonian University, and accept this honour gratefully.”

Also set to receive an honorary degree from Glasgow Caledonian University are eight more noted figures. Joining Neil at the ceremony next week is Julia Gillard, the former Prime Minister of Australia will be awarded a Doctor of Laws in recognition of her work in gender equality. Similar to Neil’s degree, Ricky Ross will also be given a Doctor of Letters for his contribution to Scottish music and culture. The third Doctor of Letters degree is to be given to Johnny Benjamin MBE for his commitment to suicide prevention. The fourth and final Doctor of Letters degree will be bestowed to Bernadine Evaristo OBE for her work within literature and human rights.

Also receiving honorary degrees are Vicky Wright MBE, Ian Urquhart CBE, Daniel Schwartz and Major Patrick Burgess MBE. During the upcoming ceremony, those in attendance will be treated to inspirational and moving speeches from each honouree, the ceremony will also include a selection of messages from the University’s leadership team. The schedule will include speeches from Vice Chancellor and Principal Professor Pamela Gillies CBE and Chancellor Dr Annie Lennox CBE.

Earlier this month, Biffy Clyro announced the details for their upcoming UK and Ireland tour, the arena tour will commence this year with a set in Leeds on 5th November 2022. The group will be joined by Brighton rockers Architects, the metalcore band formed by twins Ben and James Johnston will support Biffy Clyro throughout the tour. The “Mountains” hitmaker’s tour is scheduled to include a hometown show, the band will perform at Glasgow’s Ovo Hydro on 6th November 2022. After five more sets, Biffy Clyro and Architects will conclude the tour with a set at Bournemouth’s BIC on 15th November 2022.

During the group’s ten years together, they have released five studio albums and will utilise this back catalogue to mark the anniversary, a special greatest hits fanzine will be released on 14th October. The compilation has been created with a very personal touch and will contain different forms of media, including photos, special edition band merchandise, art cards and a CD with a tracklist of unreleased recordings. All the specially curated contents will be enclosed within a zine book, the publication will also include documents which chart the band’s career, further exclusive photographs of the group and the band member’s personal objects, a QR which provides more links to content and exclusively created band interviews.

Brittain McVey has spoken with BANG Showbiz concerning the group’s tin anniversary, “I think for a lot of people, there are various moments over the last 10 years that offer up nostalgia. Up until this point, every tour has been based on a specific album, like last year we had the ‘Cherry Blossom’ album and tour in September. But this one is going to be different because we want to get all the albums from the last decade into the show. Hopefully, it will be the sort of show where – some people might have been really big fans of the first or the second album and we want people to relive those moments with us. It’s going to be emotional, but it’s going to be so hard to pick a set list because we’ve got five albums now!”

Throughout the group’s career they have enjoyed great success, The Vamps scored their first number one album with their third studio album Night & Day and received two Gold certifications for their first two albums Meet The Vamps and Wake Up. Due to their commercial success, the band have worked with some big names in music such as Demi Lovato on the 2014 single “Somebody To You” and performed with Taylor Swift on tour.

Frontman Simpson has also spoken on the group’s experiences, the singer talks about how the band had opportunities to meet and work with their heroes, “Meeting Dave Grohl for me was just ridiculous because he’s been one of my idols for so long. They say don’t meet your heroes but it was just very inspiring to learn that you can be a good person and also just be a sheer legend. Connor got to meet Brendon Urie from Panic at the Disco. James as well, like when we got to tour with Taylor [Swift] which was amazing.”

The anniversary campaign’s live aspect is soon approaching, the band’s The Greatest Hits Tour will kick off on 23rd November 2022 at Manchester’s 02 Apollo. The group will perform at the Brighton Centre on 25th November 2022 and will appear at London’s The 02 Arena on 27th November 2022. After seven more UK arena shows, the band will conclude their Greatest hits tour on 11th December 2022 at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena.

Smith later added; “This video also stands as testament, once more, to James Slater and his vision for bringing our songs to life every time,” he continues. “I always knew we would revisit The Overload world one last time to bring the whole concept of the album full circle and I knew the final video would be for ‘100% Endurance’, but once the album came out and touring kicked in, I never knew when we would find the time. Finally we did, and getting all the cast of characters back together felt lovely too. We’ve met so many ace people making these videos and the more you meet them, the easier it is. The genre defining group has been a staple of modern music since their formation in the early 2000s, after several line-up changes, the band have continued to pioneer experimental rock music. The group’s current line-up consists of founding member and lead vocalist Win Butler, original member and multi-instrumentalist Régine Chassagne, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury and Jeremy Hara. The band’s enduring legacy is often equated to the uniquely musically talented band members.

We is the group’s sixth studio album and was released on 6th May 2022 via Columbia Records, the album is the last full release to feature former member Will Butler who left the group last year. Members Butler and Chassagne co-produced the release with English engineer and producer Nigel Godrich, known for his work within the rock world, Godrich has worked with some of the genre’s biggest names including Radiohead, Beck and Pavement. So far the album has sired two singles, “The Lightning, I II” was the first track to be released and “Unconditional  I (Lookout Kid)” was released on 27th April 2022.

Elsewhere within the charts, pop singer Sigrid has also garnered great career success. The singer’s second studio album debuted at number two within the UK charts, How To Let Go was released on 6th May 2022 via Island Records. The album has sired four singles including “Bad Life”, the singer’s collaborative release with Bring Me the Horizon. The Norwegian singer’s debut album was released in 2019, Sucker Punch was a critical success and reached number four within the UK album charts. The 25-year-old singer spoke to Officialcharts.com concerning her chart placement, “I actually can’t believe it. I beat myself, and I couldn’t be prouder! Thank you so so much to everyone listening to the album, it really means the world to me and the rest of the team.”

Late last month, Arcade Fire made headlines when they performed in the UK to re-open Camden’s iconic venue KOKO. On 29th April 2022 the beloved live music venue re-opened its doors to a resounding roar of relief, the historic building closed temporally for a restoration project worth over £70 million. Music fans felt that it appropriate that musical giants Arcade Fire would Christian the venue’s rebirth, the gig also marked the band’s first UK show in over a decade.

The band excited fans everywhere when they announced the dates for their global tour, The We Tour kicks off on 29th July 2022 with a set in Montreal. The group’s worldwide concert series comes to Ireland on 30th August and continues into the UK with a set at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena on 2nd September 2022.
