The festival took to their Twitter to announce the exciting news.

Hey! One of the most influential guitar bands of the past forty years, they’ll bring their thrilling live show to EOTR for the first time next September. pic.twitter.com/LEc8nY9QsM

— EndOfTheRoadFestival (@EOTR) September 21, 2021

The festival will take place from 1st September- 4th September 2022 at Larmer Tree Gardens. The Dorset event has been described by the Guardian in a press release as a “Life-affirming festival” along with a five-star review. The festival only recently wrapped up its 15th-anniversary event, the 2021 event boasted a lineup full of impressive acts including Hot Chip, 2021 Mercury Prize winner Arlo Parks and a special guest appearance by Blur and Gorillaz artist Damon Albarn. The festival has been a summer staple since its inception in 2006, the event has gained a reputation for featuring a lineup full of the most current acts.

Next year will mark the third time in which Pixies have been announced as a headliner, in 2020 the “Where is My Mind” performers were billed to play but with the COVID-19 pandemic the festival was cancelled. The band were again billed to headline at this year’s event but were forced to pull out due to travel restrictions. In tribute to the group’s absence, singer-songwriter King Krule performed a cover of “Wave of Mutilation”, taken from the Pixies’ second studio album Doolittle released in 1989.

A statement on the festival’s website confirms the headline announcement whilst describing the group’s musical importance. “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome the legendary Pixies as our first End Of The Road Festival 2022 headliner. The pioneers of loud-quiet-loud, and one of the most influential guitar bands of the past forty years, they’ll bring their visceral, thrilling live show to Larmer Tree Gardens for the first time next September. With 2022 early-birds selling out in under a minute, tickets are still flying out the door at record speed, so secure yours before it’s too late.”

Formed in Boston, the group originally comprised of Black Francis aka Frank Black on vocals and rhythm guitar, Joey Santiago on lead guitar, Kim Deal on bass and backing vocals and David Lovering on drums. The original lineup was active until 2013 when Deal left the group. Deal was replaced with a former member of the Muffs and The Pandoras Kim Shattuck as a touring bassist. Shattuck was then replaced with Paz Lenchantin who was made a permanent band member in 2016. Lenchantin is a world renounced bassist, known for her work in groups A Perfect Circle and rock heavyweights Queens of the Stone Age.

Since their formation and early work Pixies have become incredibly influential and synonymous with hits, Kurt Cobian once admitted that he stole riffs from their music. The group are famed for popularising the loud-quiet-loud music style and turning the method into a respected art form. The group made a huge impact within the musical landscape of the 1990s and have remained as popular and celebrated to this day. The band’s initial genre-defining singles include “Gigantic”, “Monkey Gone to Heaven”, “Here Comes Your Man” and “Debaser”.

The group disbanded in 1993 but reunited in 2004, during their eleven-year hiatus, the band members concentrated on their solo projects. On 13th April 2004, the Pixies played their first reunion gig in Minnesota followed by many more reunion performances. New music followed shortly after; in June 2004 the group released a new track exclusively via iTunes entitled “Bam Thwok”, the song reached number one within the UK Official Download Chart.

Various compilations and anniversary editions of their back catalogue were then released and in 2014 the group released their first studio album since their split. Indie Cindy was released to great critical success and two more studio albums followed its release. The band’s most recent release was the 2019 album Beneath the Eyrie, the release sired two singles and reached number seven within the UK album charts whilst accumulating huge critical and commercial success.

The early bird tickets have now sold out, as well as tiers 2 and 3. Tier 4 tickets are now on sale along with the festival’s payment deposit scheme

Wide Awake’s organiser Marcus Weedon has provided the following statement expressing his excitement for the event. “We’re incredibly excited to finally be able to bring this very special show to London this September, It’s been a tough year for everyone, not least the festival and event industry, and we have been working very hard to ensure Wide Awake is brilliantly curated with the safety of everyone at the forefront. We cannot wait to open our gates and welcome both fans and artists in what is going to be an incredibly special event this year.”

The one-day musical event will be held at London’s Brockwell park and will be making its debut run this year. The festival is the mastermind of the co-founders behind Field Day, the new festival was originally meant to take place last year but due to the COVID-19 restrictions still in place, the event was pushed back until this year. The festival can take place this year due to the announcement from the UK government confirming that social restrictions are aimed to be lifted by 21st June 2021, although the restrictions were lifted the roadmap implemented depends on the success of the vaccination process.

A statement on the festival’s website describes the event further and what ticket-holders can expect in September. “Bringing together notes from the underground, Wide Awake, is a festival for music fans looking for something different. Expect leftfield Indie, Post Punk, Electronica, Techno, Jazz and more from an array of artists you won’t find anywhere else at a festival in London. The 2021 show features the likes of black midi, Tinariwen, Dream Wife, Tropical Fuck Storm and Songhoy Blues, as well as electronic curation from Daniel Avery and many more. See full line-up here. Wide Awake grew out of Test Pressing Festival and is brought to you by Bad Vibrations, LNZRT and SC&P, some of the original Field Day and Dimensions festivals founders and the people behind MOTH Club, The Shacklewell Arms, The Waiting Room and Peckham Audio, Wide Awake’s a party for people who care… about music and more.”

A press release about the new event states the new event’s environmentally conscious standing and confirms the measures put in place at the London festival to enforce the eco-focused rules.

“Wide Awake has already committed to bury zero waste in the landfill sites and leave no trace of litter. They have banned single-use plastic, will only allow compostable packaging and cutlery onsite, all traders and back of house waste will be recycled and the stage effects will be biodegradable. This is just the beginning of the process and over the next three years, Wide Awake will be making more and more changes.”

Following the recent announcements of the UK Government delaying the easing of lockdown restrictions until July 19th, this year’s edition of the Black Deer Festival had to be cancelled. Black Deer is a festival celebrating Americana and Country music for three days and usually takes place in Eridge Park in Kent. It was due to take place on the weekend of June 25th to 27th.

This year’s line-up included international names such as Van Morrison, Frank Turner, Saving Grace featuring Robert Plant, Suzi Dian, Foy Vance, Band of Skulls, John Smith, Bess Atwell and more. However, organisers officially confirmed that the 2021 edition will not take place. They will be looking at bringing the same acts in 2022. In the statement released on social media, they said: “We can’t quite put into words how we are feeling right now.
Meanwhile, the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) has called for an urgent intervention from the Government to help small independent festivals, following the new COVID announcements. According to the AIF, with the reopening being postponed to July 19th, 93% of festivals with a capacity of over 5,000 could still happen this summer, but without insurance. Most of the festivals that were supposed to happen in June were blocked just a month before their happening, and the average cost of staging a festival is over £6 million.

“The AIF fully understands the rationale for delaying Step 4 of the lockdown roadmap. However, any measures that prevent festivals from operating fully have to be counterbalanced with effective support to ensure businesses can survive”, AIF CEO Paul Reed explained. “For those festival organisers that still have a chance of staging events after July 19, that support is government-backed insurance, which will give them the confidence to continue planning and commit the significant costs that entails. Ultimately, it is a political choice if the government does not support the sector with insurance at this stage, pushing festival businesses towards another cliff edge.”

British rapper Slowthai introduces his one-day UK festival Happyland which will take place on Saturday 25thSeptember 2021. Created by Tyron Kaymone Frampton or Slowthai, as well as Goldenvoice, the new festival is advertised as ‘Happyland – The Happiest Place in the Universe’ with the policy “No Smile, No Entry”.

The festival is to be held in Northampton, the hometown of Slowthai, at the County Cricket Club. The personal feel of the festival on Slowthai’s behalf, has caused it to receive hopeful reception. Festival goers can expect the same energy at the festival as that which Slowthai delivers in his music and performances.

The line-up includes names such as Greentea Peng, beabadoobee, Easy Life and Shygirl – a list hand-selected by Slowthai himself. The line-up shows the diverse talent that the next generation of UK music has to offer. It has been stated that each act represents “a different facet of the UK music scene in 2021”. So, it is no surprise that all of the artists chosen have risen in popularity throughout the last year or so, with the production of unique and modern music.

Of course, amongst those set to play at Happyland is Slowthai himself. After the success of his second album, ‘TYRON’ earlier this year, fans eagerly anticipate the festival – for with it brings the first live performance of the album. The rapper’s gritty, punk energy and politically charged lyrics add a uniqueness to his music and makes him extremely distinctive as an artist. This year has been a turning point for the British rapper and his career. We can be confident that Happyland is another reason to confirm Slowthai’s importance on the music scene.

Discussing the festival, Slowthai said: “Happyland with happy folk. The place where we can laugh and joke. The place you can be yourself without judgment, expectations and impressions of someone else. The space from the shackles of the everyday. The mountain where we climb to run away”.

The festival, which is normally held in June, has been postponed due to COVID restrictions. But with the government’s announcement of the roadmap to recovery, fortunately the event can still take place this year. Unfortunately, previously announced acts, Lionel Richie, Rick Astley and George Benson will not be performing in August but will be performing at next year’s event, June 2022.

Welsh crooner, Sir Tom Jones will grace the palace with a two consecutive night set starting August 23rd 2021. Van Morrison, ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ singer, will be playing on August 13th 2021. On August 17th and 18th 2021, Brit award nominees Bastille ReOrchestrated will perform. The performance will see the band Bastille play a setlist of their last three albums, performed with a 20-piece orchestra and choir, their set will surely be atmospheric, performed in a perfect setting full of elegance and prestige. East Sussex rockers Keane will play at the festival on August 19th 2021 and Björn Again will be performing on August 14th 2021. Björn Again, a famed ABBA tribute band, also performed at Glastonbury 2019.

As well as a fantastic line up of artists, Hampton Court Palace Festival also provides sophisticated picnics for guests. The picnics will be crafted by upscale department shop, Fortnum & Mason, and offers many options including, The Fortnum’s Picnic and The Fortnum’s Garden Picnic, vegetarian option. The festival also provides decadent options, The Fortnum’s Feast and The Fortnum’s Garden Feast vegetarian option. All options include wine and include plates and cutlery and glasses perfect for a beautiful but also convenient picnic. Guests are asked to put in their orders three days before the event.

The Palace first opened its gates to the festival in 1993 and has built a reputation for booking artists from all genres and eras. Not only does the festival provide musical entertainment within the palace’s beautiful grounds, but also keeps alive a historical tradition of live entertainment, a tradition passed down from the 16th century established by nobility and royals. Notable artists which have followed this tradition include, Eric Clapton, Kyle Minogue and Jools Holland.

During these troubling times for live music and festivals, good news comes in the form of the recent headline announcement for the Isle of Wright Festival 2021. Liam Gallagher, Snow Patrol, David Guetta and Duran Duran have all signed up to headline this year’s festival. Usually held in June, organisers had to adapt due to the ongoing COVID pandemic and pushed the festival back by three months. The event will now take place between 16th and 19th September at Seaclose park located in Newport, Isle of Wright.

The line up was posted on the Festival’s Instagram to announce the news.

This year will mark three years since Gallagher last headlined the festival with co-headliner, British electronic monarchs, Depeche Mode. The former Oasis member will be performing on Friday night, Saturday’s headline acts will be Snow Patrol and legendary DJ and producer, David Guetta, and closing the four-day event will be British music icons, Duran Duran.

Other performers include OBE and ‘Sex Bomb‘ singer Sir Tom Jones, The Script, All Saints, Becky Hill, Ella Henderson, Example, Imelda May, James, James Arthur, Kaiser Chiefs, Lawson, Lightning Seeds, Maximo Park, Primal Scream, Razorlight, Sam Fender, Scouting for Girls, Seasick Steve, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Supergrass, The Snuts and Surrey rockers, You Me at Six.

John Giddings, festival promotor, has said this about the line up as well as plans to ensure everyone in attendance’s safety. “It’s a fantastic array of artists, from icons to emerging talent and not forgetting everything still to come from additional stages across the festival. Over the coming months we’ll be watching and learning from the events taking place before us and, of course, liaising with all the relevant authorities to make sure everyone – audience, artists, staff, the community – is kept safe.”

The acclaimed festival, initially an event held in support of the hippie and counterculture movement of the late 60s and early ’70s, became the centre of a parliament issue. The event held in 1970 caused issues due to its large size physically as well as the large number of people in attendance. This caused Parliament to amend the Isle of Wright County Council Act of 1971 to ensure that such events would not become too large and amended the law to limit the attendance to 5,000 people for overnight and open-air event. The festival was temporarily shut down until its rebirth in 2002, the headliners performing at the festival’s reemergence included The Charlatans and Led Zeppelin singer, Robert Plant.

Although Last year’s event was cancelled due to COVID, Snow Patrol and Duran Duran, who were the original headliners for 2020 will also be returning this year. The 2020 line up also included Happy Mondays, Lionel Richie, Snow Patrol, The Chemical Brothers, Duran Duran, Dido and The Libertines. With so many other live music events being cancelled due to the current pandemic and COVID restrictions, this year’s Isle of Wright festival will surely see a burst of popularity and rush in ticket sales.

The festival is set to take place on July 24th 2021, over a month after the governments ‘road-map’ date for all lockdown restrictions to be lifted (June 21st!). The Director of Kaleidoscope Festival, Simon Fell, has stated, “to say it’s been a tough last year is a massive understatement, but it’s great to have something to look forward to this summer.”

Fell went on to say, “Kaleidoscope will provide everything you’d want from a festival experience, with loads of green space to explore, the Palace and world class music, comedy and entertainment, all here on one in day in London. To have Groove Armada headlining too, is the stuff summer dreams are made of.It is part of a packed programme we’re preparing at Ally Pally for when restrictions lift, so come and join the fun.”

Groove Armada have recently released their first LP since their 10 year hiatus, Edge of Horizon. The latest album gained wide critical acclaim, gaining 7.5 stars out of 10 from Line Of Best Fit. The duo’s Andy Cato said of the album to NME, “During those studio days, the rest of the world shuts down. There’s an intensity, anyone looking in might say madness, that kicks in when we’re totally lost amongst the instruments, synths and records day and night. But that shared, unspoken feeling that comes when we both know we’ve got it right cuts through as clear as ever.”

Currently priced at £53.50, the one-dayer will be one you do not want to miss. Performing beside Groove Armada and The Coral will be Greg Wilson, House Gospel Choir and Mr Wilson’s Second Liners.

The relatively new festival has been described as ‘unbeatable’ by Evening Standard, who rewarded them with a 4 star review. The festival hosts DJ’s and Spoken Word, with Irvine Welsh and Phil Wang headlining the Comedy tent.

With many more acts to be announced over the coming months, Kaleidoscope Festival will certainly bring the summer vibes after the long lockdown.
